kamala harris, critics say has done nothing to solve the problem. john roberts in washington. happy fridayie. >> sandra: two bus loads of migrants arriving on the vice president's doorstep from the texas del rio sector, in direct response to her claims over the weekend that the border is secure. >> meanwhile, trouble in paradise. border crisis making its way to the ritzy island of martha's vineyard, two planes of migrants were dropped off there yesterday. desantis citing massachusetts status an a sanctuary state to send them there. >> the white house to face questions moments from now on all of this. highlights from that as theyp ha. but griff jenkins, he is live at the naval observatory talking to the migrants as they step off the busses, so griff, what have they been telling you? >> well, they are saying something very different,
10:02 am
sandra, than what vice president harris said. now governor abbott has been sending nearly 200 busses of nearly 8,000 migrants to d.c. since april but never to the naval observatory. take a look at this video, they are getting off, 101 in total, most of them were from venezuela, others from cuba, nicaragua, and panama. we spoke to one migrant who definitely does not agree with the state of the border as vice president harris says, take a listen. >> everybody thinks the border is open, it's open because we enter, we come in, free. >> it's open for you to come illegally? >> right. we see on the news that everybody come in illegally. we do the same. >> sandra, all of those migrants have been taken by local ngos to a church, but we are here by the national president of lulac, the nation's oldest and largest latino civil rights organization, mr. garcia, your

reaction to governor abbott sending the migrants here. >> i'll tell you what, jesus is very upset with governor abbott. treating refugees as political pinata and stunts, dropping them off at 6:00 in the morning in front of the vice president's house, inhumane and human trafficking. >> one of the migrants says the border is indeed open, that's why he came across and he saw so many coming before him, but yet vice president harris says the border is closed. so i ask you, is this border secure, is this border closed or is it open as the migrants say? >> we have had a record number of deportations. if you are mexican or central american, you are going to be deported. these are venezuelans, and asking for refugee status and they are allowed. >> is the administration being honest with the migrants about the state of the border being open and enticing them to come in large numbers.
10:04 am
>> i think the reality is we need to have a bipartisan solution to fixing our broken immigration system. i agree, it's broken, and some people get in, some people don't, and it's just -- needs to be fixed, both republicans and democrats working together. otherwise they play the blame game. >> we'll see if it happens. not much appetite for bipartisan reform immigration on the hill, but abbott says he will keep the busses rolling out of texas to bring relief to his overrun border cities. >> sandra: fascinating conversation there, griff. live in d.c., happening in realtime. the white house press briefing to take place a short time from now. we will see how the white house will be responding to this. >> john: one migrant griff talked to, said as far as they are concerned the border is open and that's the message they are getting by watching the news there in venezuela as well. we have tom homan, we've got
10:05 am
also coming up steve danes and dave rubin to talk about this, a lot to cover on "america reports." >> sandra: looking forward to that. >> john: 54 days to the midterms, a twist to the latest poll. 44% of voters say they would prefer a democratic candidate on the generic ballot, only 41% would support a republican running for office. reversal due in large part to abortion rights, more voters say it's playing a role in their decision. fox news contributor, katie, let's put the numbers back on the screen. remarkable turn around here. back in july it was 44% of people wanted a republican candidate, 31% wanted the democratic candidate. now, two months later, the numbers are reversed. why? >> registered voters not yet of likely voters and when you look at the way that people pay attention after labor day, democrats have been hitting the campaign trail on issues they think are going to bring out their base, abortion being one
10:06 am
of those things. but when it comes to what's happening on the campaign trail, you mentioned president biden, his approval rating is up. well, it's interesting to watch and see if the candidates who have been distancing themselves from him will now decide to have him on the campaign trail in places like ohio, georgia, pennsylvania, for example. so president biden has been trying to tout wins at the white house, they believe the student loan bailout was good for their base, that's something that blue collar americans, 68% of americans who don't have a college degree disagree with. however, that is something thae h -- they have wanted to get their side of the aisle ready for the election, they are trying to get to the polls. >> john: you mentioned the approval numbers are up, and what, i thought they were down. a new a.p. poll shows his approval rating has gone up dramatically, nine points from july until now, it was 36% approval in july, it's now 45%.
10:07 am
how did he turn it around, or is there an outlier? >> other polls, he's at 39%, 40%. so a.p. may have polled people who were more in favor of the president's policies, the white house has been trying to push his agenda out from the white house, they have held a number of events recently, see if the polling is consistent when it comes to the future and again, as i said, democratic candidates on the campaign trail try to distance themselves from the president because of his approval rating and you are not seeing that with the candidates in wisconsin, ron johnson is leading, and in arizona with lake ahead of her opponent t there. >> john: inflation, high prices, 19% say the top issue, abortion 2, 16%, and jobs, and 15%, top issue for democrats, abortion bracketed by inflation and jobs, should play to the republican
10:08 am
side of things. however, just as the president was taking it on the chin for high inflation number on tuesday, south carolina senator lindsey graham said we need a federal abortion bill, capping at 15 weeks, he was asking about the timing last night. >> i don't think there's a bad day to stand up for the unborn. what am i trying to say, that america needs to have a policy that makes us a civilized nation. >> john: so we were chatting before we came on here and you don't disagree with the principle, you thought the timing was -- >> yes, timing on the day the president was holding a garden party at the white house celebrating inflation, when we had a horrible number on inflation, american families are pa paying $1,000 an average a month. but democrats on the hill have introduced legislation that
10:09 am
would wipe out the pro life bills after the supreme court kicked the issue back to the states. when it comes to lindsey graham's bill, he is simply saying let's come to a compromise with the majority of the american people. there was a harvard poll that came out after dobbs in june this summer that showed 75% of women believe in restrictions on abortion after 15 weeks. the majority of the country is there when it comes to restrictions on abortion. 60% of democrats believe there should be restrictions at 15 weeks. on the campaign trail you have democrats framing republicans as extremists and yet people like stacey abrams, warnock, fetterman in pennsylvania, when they are asked if they believe in any restriction on abortion, they say, including up to the moment of birth they don't believe in restrictions. so the graham bill is far more in line with what the american people think and democrats should be put in the position to have to defend why they are extreme on the issue as they try to paint republicans as the ones
10:10 am
who are out of touch. >> john: could have waited until next week. >> maybe the timing could have been slightly better. >> john: thanks for kicking us off. >> sandra: the violent ex-con accused of kidnapping and murdering memphis teacher eliza fletcher back in court. arraigned on an unrelated rape charge from last september of last year. that crime happened less than a year after his early release from prison. jonathan is joining us from atlanta. this brings up the bigger question, why was this man, why was he ever released from jail early? >> cleotha henderson was released after serving 20 years of a 24-year service, conviction of a third crime, kidnapping of a local attorney back in the year 2000. now, the district attorney initially said he was paroled
10:11 am
but later issued a correction that was not the case. court documents obtained by fox news digital suggests henderson received credit for time he had spent in jail prior to his sentencing in the 2000 case, which is required by law. but after his release, investigators say henderson kidnapped and raped a woman at gunpoint, in september of last year. but he was never indicted for that crime until just last week. back in 2021, memphis police collected samples for a rape kit similar to the ones you see in this file video. they submitted the kit to the tennessee bureau of investigation for analysis. without a suspect the samples were added to a backlog of kits and not tested until august 29th of this year. days before the abduction and murder of memphis teacher eliza fletcher. dna evidence collected from that

crime scene matched the 2021 rape case linking henderson to both crimes. now that henderson is facing murder charges in connection with the eliza fletcher case, he is being held without bond. sandra. >> sandra: tough story. thank you, jonathan. john. >> john: fox news alert, await the white house daily briefing and we have just learned about a meeting there tomorrow between president biden and the families of britteny griner and paul whelan, both of them behind bars in russia. >> sandra: the administration has been negotiating the release, we have been told for months now. so far no breakthroughs. the so what do tomorrow's meetings mean with these families? we could find out when the briefing begins moments from now. >> john: also sure to be a hot topic, busses carrying migrants from texas straight to the vice president's house. she has taken heat for months.
10:13 am
>> sandra: v.p. frustrating texas officials when she said over the weekend the border is secure. will today's bus arrivals make her see things differently? we'll ask tom homan. he'll be here next. >> you talk about being tone deaf and out of touch. kamala harris over the weekend said the border is secure. maybe she says that because she has not been to the border to see how out of control it is. this is john. he never gives up—no matter what life throws his way. high cholesterol. heart disease. 17 fad diets... 5 kids... 3 grandkids... 1 heart attack. and 18 passwords that seem to change daily. with leqvio, john can lower his cholesterol— and so can you. when taken with a statin,

former acting ice director, and fox news contributor. great to have you here today. obviously you have spoken out on this issue for a very long time. to you first of all agree with the month of now on the part of governor desantis following others sending the migrants to martha's vineyard and now also being sent to kamala harris's doorstep? is this effective in your view? >> absolutely. look, you know these sanctuary cities, they entice illegal immigration by saying get to the country illegally and get to the city, we will protect you. it's a huge magnet. and this morning ending up at kamala harris's home, she has went on the record last week twice saying the border is secure. all she has to do is walk down to where griff jenkins is and talk to the people on the sidewalk, and the same thing they told griff. they came because the border was open. they simply walk across, it was

>> sandra: fox is reporting that this is a direct response to kamala harris saying this over the weekend. listen. >> the border is secure. we also have a broken immigration system and particular over the last four years before we came in and it needs to be fixed. we also have to put in place a law and a plan for a pathway for citizenship, for the millions of people who are here. >> sandra: okay, she said that sunday. then griff jenkins doing the reporting to your point, tom, asked a migrant this. the exchange. >> vice president harris said that the border is closed. is the border closed, do you believe the border is closed or open? >> it's open, not closed. the border is open. >> the border is open. do you believe all the migrants believe the border is open? >> everybody, the border is open, it's open because we enter, you come in free.

no problem. >> sandra: the border is open, it's open, we come in freely, tom. he said it there. >> if she cares about the issue she can walk 200 yards from her home to the sidewalk and get that straight from the aliens themselves and i'm sick and tired of them saying they inherited a broken system. look, the trump administration gave us the most secure border in my lifetime, illegal immigration 40-year low, illegal immigration down 83%. they came in and dismantled the most secure border we ever had. they broke the system. we built a great system. and because we built a great system, because illegal immigration was down 83%, how many women didn't get assaulted, how many children didn't die, or overdoses, president trump did a great job on the border and the first administration i know of in secured our southern border, which is just unbelievable.
