9:07 pm
home just a bit of what people are saying about the problems along the souther border in particular those who are criticizing those who suggest they should be sent to sanctuary cities. take a listen. >> some politicians would rather not only have an issue but exacerbate it to the extent of literally human trafficking. >> for mayors like me and that are dealing with a crisis not of our making and we're not a border town, but we don't have the ability. we're not texas. >> everybody is welcome. >> it's open because we enter, we come in. no problem. >> wow. we come in free. no problem. jonathan, that seems to be the message that millions of people around the globe have gotten since the biden administration ascended to office. am i misreading that or is that your understanding? >> i think they're getting the right messing. because the border is open. we are on pace for 10 to 12
9:08 pm
million illegal aliens to come across during the biden president biden's term. they are doing nothing to prevent it, nothing to enforce the law, in fact everything they do is to prevent enforcement. you saw what happened with the border patrol agents just last fall. if somebody tries to enforce the law, they'll demonize them, sensor them, intimidate them. they want this open border, sensor them. hillary it was a political decision to open this border and the american people are paying a big price for this and even at martha's vineyard they are and it really just shows how expensive this issue is for everybody. >> it is expensive and steve, i want to welcome you into the conversation because i do understand you have some economic components to all of this. some people say more low-cost labor is probably a boon for the economy and yet there's the other side of that argument which is that awful tough to swallow when there are so many millions of americans who are already part of the let's just
9:09 pm
say less educated; less ability on some levels to get some of the jobs out there. they're competing with a lot more people. that's unfair, isn't it? >> well, look, i mean, first of all, if you believe that the boarder is secure securer as harris says you probably -- i do favor what trump did which is let's get that border secure, and be were on the way to doing that by the way on under trump. and then i do think we need agricultural workers in this country. i think we need a regulated system to bring people en this country who want to work. i'm all in fair f that. i think what americans are upset about is the facta you have a completely unregulated border where you've got criminals, you've got drug runners and others coming across the border, nobody knee knows who they are, and i think once we can get the border secure, then we could have an argument about the people want to contribute to
9:10 pm
this country but you can't do that when you've got an open board, that the problem. >> it's inherently unfair from the people who did it the right way. they took years to get here, they did all the right steps, and now you have from their perspective and i talked to some people they feel like listen, other peep logical justing sort of cutting the line of the idea of i asylum when in fact that may or may not exactly be the case. very quickly gentlemen, i want to get you both to waying own in on this. this is a headline from the times it's suggesting thicks are great in the country, democrats boo buoyed by abortion, trump, and other things but the truth is there's a little bit more than meets the eye. a poll finding you find this inside the piece talking about the sienna poll. also suggested mr. biden's legislative successes have done relatively little to boost his or his party's credibility on ack ec um economic issues. only 36 percent of voters say they approve of a center piece of mr. biden's legislative
9:11 pm
agenda, the health and climate spending bill by congress last month known as the inflation reduction act. more than a quarter said they'd never even heard of it. johnathan, quickly to you. 15 seconds your thought and then steven, you wrap it up. >> yeah, i think most people don't know about it and most people know this administration is not taking the issue they care about seriously. crime, the border, inflation, and this poll really shows that what he's doing is not helping the american people. >> jonathan, thank you. steven, before we go, your quick thought. ten seconds my friend. >> people know that inflation is out of control. they see it every time they go too gas pump and the grocery store, and inflation i think is the real killer for this economy right now. as you know, kevin, we've got some pretty bad numbers this week. inflation is not under control, es. because f the out of control govem spending. it's that simple. >> the whole thing holds once again the economy. thank you, we appreciate it. have a good weekend. >> you got it.
9:12 pm
>> breaking tonight, the doj taking us case to a higher court. the gump asking the 11ing sec t court of appeals in atlanta to intervene and allow federal investigators to continuing reviewing more than a hundred documents seized from marralago. instructed lawyers from the d orc j and the former president, trump, to appear before him tuesday at a preliminary conference in a new york city career courtroom. we'll bring you all that. >> now to america's crime crisis, and tonight we focus on an upscale neighborhood right here en washington d.c. that unfortunately has recently come under incredible, incredible problems. we're talking about assaults and robberies and violence and more. here's correspondent lucas with more than that from georgetown. >> cross the nation's capital, violent crime is on the rise. >> armed carjacking is p 74 percent.
9:13 pm
robbery is up 13%, and murder is up this year compared to this time last year. which ended at 20-year highs. >> they broke my last window, and by the time alarm company called me, i get here it was about 150 kids in my basement. >> some businesses in georgetown, one of washington's premiere neighborhoods, are closing their doors during the day, and opening by appointment only. one store was robbed of a hundred thousand dollars worth of merchandise. >> they're looking for trouble. >> it's not limited to georgetown. bot 4 miles away on h street alone, robbery has doubled in the past year where washington commander rookie running back ryan robinson was recently shot twice in the leg. no arrests have been made. >> and you think crime is getting worse? >> yes. especially in this area. i just moved here and somebody is getting shot, robbed,y day. >> long-time resident michael explains the breakdown in the
9:14 pm
family structure. >> the crime out here don't have no father. >> this young mother want to leave a street. she asked us not to show her face. >> feel like looking a little bit safer environment. >> the five is supposed to be hip on a street, high enda partments and restaurants, a barber who also didn't want to show his face says none of that matters. >> i've been in this area since the 80s. crime's always been here. it's less, but it's not going to change. >> police say they're making arrests every single day they blame the rising crime in turning criminals loose back on the streets the next day. in georgetown, lucas tomlinson, fox news. >> lucas, thank you. friday night around here of course means time to shine a spot light of the media's coverage of the news making headlikes this week and for that we break down the highs and lows with columnist stephanie hamel and town hall dot com managing editor spencer brown.
9:15 pm
first to you, stephanie, i'm in a good mood so i want to start off on a high note. usually i like to do the low and end on a high. let's start out with your high point for week. >> this is an incredible story. and i have to give credit to the news outlets and the networks who actually covered this story it's of a young man from fart walton beach in florida. he's a chick-fil-a employee, and it happened this wednesday he heard a woman screaming for help, he stepped in, he saved a woman and a baby from a man trying to carjack them. and they were watching a video that going viral right now on the internet of him wrestling around with the suspect. and. so oftentimes we'll see these stories of people filming a crime scene happening and they don't intervene, this man heard a woman screaming for help, he jumped in, he wanted to save her, and help her, and the follow-up to this story is that the community's coming around to support this young man for doing such a brave act.
9:16 pm
that the chick-fil-a there has been just completely busy with people coming through the drive thru just to meet this man. and it's really a heartfelt story. >> it is an interring story. you know i love. >> spencer i want to share the sound and get your reaction to it for high point of the woke. take it up to the white house, listen carefully, and then react on the back side. >> do you think think americans believe. >> what i'm going to tell you is the record and the process that we have been using. to make sure that you we do our best to secure the border. >> does the white house stand by those comments, that the border is secure? >> what we stand by is that we are doing everything that we can to make sure that we follow the process that's been put forth. >> spencer, props to my
9:17 pm
colleague jackie heimlich right there. >> roll well well, indeed. what was nettable about this for the media one offense holding them to thraward. what we saw this week final y was other people in that briefing room taking their job seriously and holding the white house press secretary's feet to the fire over these repeated statements that she and the vice president and the president and everyone en this administration had said about the border being supposedly closed and finally got to the point where she ran out of talking point, there was nothing left en that briefing book that she could say and it showed hopefully to those paying attention the white house does not have an answer on what's happening down at the border. and hopi feel this shows the white house press corps they can hold the white house accountable instead of ticking what they say as fact and they can keep challenging them on points like this. >> speaking of not taking everything they say at face value your low point of the week has to do with fact-checking. tell us about that.
9:18 pm
>> there's a lot going on in the briefing room these days. the one thing that's not happening is the supposedly non-partisan and independent fact checkers that are supposed to look into the statements that are made by people like jean prepare. what has been noticed is the fact that the fact checkers at fact check dot org, righters, ap, the washington pest, have not been looking into her claims se what's ridiculous as every win conserve of it media knows is supposedly the independent fact checkers are more likely to do the bidding of the white house than check thought white house is saying. it's absurd that me pointing that out is more leakily to be fact checked than jean pierre saying the border is close. so it's a shame the people who are supposed to be impartial are being another arm of the democratic party. >> stephanie, i know you know that all too well. let me get your low point. i'm going to share a sound and get your reaction at the end of it. listen to this. >> disturbing abunt about de santis is to use human beings to
9:19 pm
weaponize human beings for a political purpose -- >> because y. been made into a brown people issue. >> yep. >> it's a problem. >> exploiting and abusing human beings, men, womb, and children to score cheap political points on immigration. how do these people sleep at night? >> hyper boley or more of the same, stef effny? >> yes, it's very defense, isn't it? it's interest how they're handling the migrants being sent to martha's vineyard versus what's been going on at the border. people have been hysterical and hyperventilating over de santis' decision to send them to martha's vineyard have little to say about the border cries or what's going on in these border states and a lot f these border state politicians and in the they've been trying to bring tension to what's going on and they're dealing with much bigger numbers than just 50 migrants. they're dealing with the numbers around 2 million encountered this fish kl year. so that just to give us a little bit of perspective of what's
9:20 pm
happening. and so i find it real hypocritical, i find it intellectually dishonest that they're very upset about it and don't want to talk about the root causes. >> i don't remember all the hyperbo le when the flights were going around the country in the dark of night. spencer brown, stephanie hamel, thank you so much we appreciate you. >> thank you, kevin. >> still to come, a side not many would expect to see the happiest place on earth. say what? and, communion, flying cars? maybe happening sooner than you thought. today's best viral videos, next. causing a lack of sharpness, or even trouble with recall. thankfully, the breakthrough in prevagen helps your brain and actually improves memory. the secret is an ingredient originally discovered... in jellyfish. in clinical trials, prevagen has been shown
