2:02 pm
vineyard, then they get upset. >> this comes as president biden's border crossings have topped 2 million for this fiscal year, and 78 were suspected terrorists trying to sneak into the united states, an all-time high, and the year isn't over yet. greg, we're awaiting footage of these migrants touching down near rehoboth beach. how will that play out? >> obviously i think it's brilliant. you can call it a stunt, using people as props, but that's how the republicans learned that from the democrats. the ball has been moved down the field on this. the immediate democratic response has not been to attack the problem with solutions, but to attack the person with the solutions, which is desantis, right? it's funny to see their excuses during this. for example, they believe that
2:03 pm
the whole goal of republicans now is to, quote, own the libs. no. it was simply to attract attention to a problem. you are owning yourself. that just happens to be icing on the cake, right? so i think that you're seeing exactly what happens. when democrats realize there's a new formidable republican out there, suddenly you have a new hitler. then the old hitler -- well, maybe he's not so bad. suddenly "the new york times" is saying trump is funny, and he never took himself and charming. suddenly the guy they called hitler is not hitler, because not everybody can be hitler at once, right? obviously this happened when they demonnized romney. when trump came along, romney became a statesman. romney was evil before mccain became a moderate. they do all the time. you have to be fair that the republicans aren't doing the best when it comes to talking
2:04 pm
about immigration. it comes down to pronouns. i was thinking about this, right? we always talk about separating process from people. it's not about the migrants. it's about the process. i think republicans, we have a problem, of saying i'm not a republican, but i always think that way. we say they when we should be saying we. we should say, they are coming by the millions, they are invading, crossing our border. sounds mean when you say they. we need to use the pronoun we and say we need a process overhaul, we need to make it easier for people to come in to this country through a process. we need to take control of our border so we can let people in. just that little twist from they to we, i think would win over a lot of people. i think that's kind of always been a little bit of a mistake. >> as a communications expert, dana, do you agree with greg's interception? >> i do, because it's hard to argue with that. both sides say we need a
2:05 pm
legislative accomplishment to get something done. i think it's super smart. tpresident biden said immigratin is down, but at the same time they announced the largest numbers in history, 2 million crossing this year to date. also nbc's polling today showed something very interesting, that republicans had the largest lead in history on who americans trust on the economy, crime, and immigration. the other thing about this, remember how, greg, when we were talking about cancel culture, you talked about sharing the risk. this stunt, in politics it's a stunt, policy is policies. stunts is politics. we need to share the risks, that the border states can't bear the burden on this. the federal government is in charge of immigration, but they're not paying for it. texas state taxpayers have paid for a lot of the work that governor abbott has tried to do in order to shore up the border
2:06 pm
there. >> billions. >> billions of state taxpayer that is that have have gone to schools, infrastructure, maybe climate change projects if they wanted that, but instead they gedon't get to do that. and arizona as a border state, senator mark kelly, filmed in front of the border wall projects, but he voted to end title xlii, 100% with biden on these issues, except for the photo ops. >> eventually the democrats will have come to negotiating table, because they can keep flying them to these areas. there's nothing that can stop them. >> greg, you're right. talking it that way would be a good start for everybody. i would hope that both governor desantis and governor abbott, maybe even the governor of arizona, would organize and
2:07 pm
invite mayor bowser, mayor lightfoot, if everyone got comfortable with the politics around it. greg, you're right, desantis this is a good dual between he and donald trump, becoming the face of the republican party. politics are about the future, offering ideas. if he offers a policy strategy, a policy answer to this as opposed to -- the stunts are fine. good politics lead to good policy -- he will find himself in the driver's seat on the republican side. i've said all along, the polling is tight. no doubt that republicans -- democrats, if we're serious about winning in november, we must have a strategy on the
2:08 pm
border within the next few weeks. if the republicans don't offer an affirmative way to go about campaigning before november, this issue could offset the advantages we have. some don't think that. it could be a jump ball, but i'd much rather have a strategy on the border than not. >> i think we all want a strategy on the border. look, this thing has been going on for too long, but dana hit the nail on the head when she said that the republicans are ahead on issues of economy, crime, and the border. so the republicans are ahead. the conversation that needs to be had is a federal conversation. immigration is a federal issue. now, just today, when we're on the cusp of 2ens 1 million immigrants coming into this country in one year, with 78 of them on the terror watch list, and if you'll recall only 19 hijackers who killed 3,000 americans, with 78 of them that we caught, and what is it, 900,000 getaways, gotaways, you
2:09 pm
know, we've got a problem right now. so when the president comes out and he says, look, the northern triangle isn't the problem anywhere, so, kamala, you know, you never gave us an answer, but don't worry about it anymore. we have to worry about nick rog could, venezuela and cuba, because none of them will take their immigrants back, the people who leave those country, they refuse to accept them back. now, if mexico won't take them back, the countries they came from don't take them back, we give them money each year, hey, you've got them, pull the short hairs at this point and say if you don't take your people back we're not sending you this money. we don't owe you this money. so in the meantime we have to play hardball. the feds have to be the ones to have the conversation. and, you know, at that point once they start dealing with the
2:10 pm
people already here, then we should be in a position where the democrats, who have the issue, have the house and senate, and the oval should use their political capital to make this a resolved issue. >> if you give us those three in november, i promise you we'll do it. >> it's a deal. coming up, a top democrat apparently has had enough of soft on crime policies. all it took was this axe-wielding lunatic.

when the truth is, look, this guy is charged of criminal possession of a weapon and criminal mischief. both misdemeanors. the criminal possession of a weapon in a fourth degree, if he has a prior conviction, which the "new york post" reports he has, then it's third degree, and then it makes a violent felony. we don't know if that's the case. criminal mischief is charged as a misdemeanor. a misdemeanor is $250. he definitely did the felony criminal mischief, which i think is $1500. so the da charged lower probably than he could have, but it wouldn't have made a darn bit of difference as it relates to bail. that's her problem. that's her issue. if she had any honesty, she would say we've got to change the bail laws because of my party's decision to have social justice and bail for everybody, this guy walked out. i can guarantee you, harold, they gave him his axe back.
