reedom unlimited with no annual fee. how do you cashback? chase. make more of what's yours. we are out of time. thank you, jamie, and all the audience. i love you, america! [ applause ] hello and welcome to "fox news at night," i am kevin corke in washington. breaking tonight, history repeating itself with kevin mccarthy hoping to do with republicans like what newt gingrich did. will the house be enough for the gop to seal the deal in
9:01 pm
november? a job revelation from a federal watchdog group, tens of millions of dollars helping the pandemic stolen. fox news at night will investigate on this. portland's differential policies for the homeless there. we'll explain why the town is being taken to tax over handicap laws. we begin with a look at the elections. republicans hoping to emulate newt gingrich come this november. we'll go in death with the bill of rights. we begin with trey gallagher. good evening, trey.
9:02 pm
>> house minority leader kevin mccarthy will now unveil a commitment to america. the agenda includes dozens of policy recommendations that is fall under four categories, an economy that's strong and a future that's built on freedom and a government that's accountable. here is gop congressman steve scalise. >> democrats are fed up with the direction of far left moving through federalism. >> the commitment to america also has a parent's bill of rights includes of the rights of what to know of what being taught in school and a policy

9:04 pm
to me at the eight years of the company. best of luck and we'll see you again soon. >> thank you, kevin. let's talk about this new gop initiative and how the commitment to america and other hot button issues may impact the upcoming midterm elections in november. with that, we bring in our lesley marshal who's really a gem and speaking of gem, how about long time white house david marcasco is covering with us tonight. i want to begin with you, david, it sounds good on paper but will it produce the way it did back in 1994. what do you think this commitment to america? >> record inflation, another interest rate hike by the fed. people are going to start -- imagine you have a variable mortgage.
9:05 pm
people will start to feel for it tomorrow. none of it matters but the economy. >> i think you are 100% correct on that. there are some edge issues that percolate up to the four forefront. i think the choice issue is one of them. i want to share a sound byte from kellyanne conway. listen here. >> the gop has made its agenda perfectly clear for months. a nationwide on abortion, medicare and social security on the chopping block, raising taxes on working families, while democrats continue to fight to defend woman's rights to choose. >> we know the fight is on abortion. if you are pro-life, you better be pro-life your entire life.
9:06 pm
that's why the republican party is only the party for school choice and education for freedom and opportunity of scholarships. >> a lot to unpack there. you heard chuck schumer saying what republicans are trying to do is limit choice across the country. you heard kellyanne conway suggests really what democrats want is to be able to abort baby up until birth. i think both edges of this are probably not what the mainstream believed. the positions are out there. your take on what was said there and how may that impact the mid midterms? >> as a pro-choice democrat, i don't think it should be birth. and if they want to check out a few boxes, let's look at the history and how they voted. votes for republicans don't add up when it comes to healthcare and education, not just for the child but the mother. a lot of people would say they are pro-fetus and not pro-life.
9:07 pm
speaking of the dobbs decision and abortion, five hours ago, we saw online in the state of colorado, it is number two next o the economy among voters. in the state of new mexico, latinos have an increase in concern about abortion and a decrease in concern about the economy and inflation specifically and then when we look at numbers, just looking at ohio, for example, when you have 12% gain among registered voters that's women registered to vote 12% more so than the men registered to vote. i don't believe it is going to be the economy, stupid. even though james carvel is right. economy is numero uno. number two is among voter. >> maybe number two, i think it is fair to suggest, maybe not up until birth, and you follow up until when? that becomes the big
9:08 pm
debate among some. david, lesley's point is a strong one that ultimately people will vote their pocketbooks but there are other issues that could make an impact as we get closer to november. i want to get your take and your sense of where we are with respect to the horse race aspect of this. are you feeling like the gop has the house solidly, the senate is a toss-up. does that change very much between now and then? >> no, i don't think so. i think we'll have closely divided chambers, the republicans will control both sides of the capitol and these edge issues may help. the border is not a big play in montana. if you are looking at tight senate races in arizona and nevada, the border will affect that. i maintained of 27 and 28 states where the abortion laws have not changed and are going to. it is hard to motivate women there to care about that issue to pull a lever base about it. in some other places, yeah, it
9:09 pm
is an edge issue and sometimes edge issue tips you over the edge. i don't think republicans are in fine shape, as long as they are not too proud to go in front of rob emanuel's yard to say these are pricey and we can't let it go to waste. >> i want to share on "axios," this was a headline. the piece democrats have listen focused on abortion as a winning issue. the new data shows a waning interest nationally after the initial surge followed the supreme court's overturning of roe v. wade. florida governor desantis grabbed national attention by flying asylum seekers to martha vineyard's. your stretch as to what that may mean as we head down the stretch? >> nothing.
9:10 pm
it was not a spike, i was surprised. if you remember after the ruling we didn't see a lot of people registering to vote. we didn't see the outrage. it took a bit. actually, we are seeing those huge numbers increase in registration specifically among females and not just ohio but many states in the country. i love "axios" but i don't think people know what they are searching for. people are also searching for the latest potato chips, i don't think people are voting for those two items or issues. >> i do think you make a good point about the number of women registering, do keep in mind, school choice, what's happening in schools also is a big issue among american women particularly suburban women. lesley and david, i appreciate your time. >> thank you, kevin. big news, $50 million of

9:12 pm
bogus claims in multiple states using more than 2,000 social security numbers stolen from dead people. this is the third major scam involving covid relief funds in just the past two days. on tuesday, the feds uncovered what they call at the time the largest pandemic relief fraud, charging 47 people with steeling $250 million that was supposed to be used to feed hungry children in chicago. now another scam using pandemic release cash. some of the suspects used the fund to spring themselves from scale by using the stolen cash to post bond. republican senator, roger marshal introduced a new resolution to end the covid emergency declaration, response
