10:03 am
so you have that odd research going on. at the same time, the nea is allowing members of the union in ohio to wear pins that have qr codes that link to information about sexual identity. >> these badges imply that any teacher not wearing the badge is not safe. and also implies that the teachers wearing the badges are somehow licensed to speak to our children about sexual identity, and that is just not acceptable. speak with the superintendent has been all over the place about these badges because initially he said, something to do with the teachers union. now, he is saying the badges are a good thing. >> now congress, republicans of congress coming for the nea's federal charter. senator marsha blackburn said the teachers unions have demonstrated they will put political priorities ahead of student well-being every chance they can get here the nea by all
10:04 am
accounts a political organization and not a word of activation with a federal charter. why does this matter? why are we doing the story from the white house? that is because the nea union has the pool road and endorsement this administration. >> and we still have more to do and we have so much to do together. nea, you are an extraordinarily effective as a group advocate for change, which is why we know that you have been able to see the success you have achieved. it is no surprise why because we know unions know how to org organize. >> this administration's focus when it comes to schools over the last year and a half has been making sure that kids are back in the classroom post covid. it will be interesting to see how president biden talks about
10:05 am
education now that he has said the pandemic is over. we expect to hear from him in a few minutes, john. >> john: this issue what kids are being taught in school with the teachers are trying to teach them or at least then unions. a very big issue with these midterm elections, peter thank you so much. let's bring it ari fleischer press secretary and fox news contributor. this morning, the republicans in the house and build a commitment to america which included the parents bill of rights. let's put it up on the screen what they want. they want parents to have the right to know what is being taught in schools. the reading material, the right to be heard in the right to see school budgets and the right to protect child's privacy and an update on any violent activity at school. education, schools, the woke agenda, the last year gubernatorial race in virginia. how do you think it will play out this year? >> well, first in terms of the agenda that you just discussed, john amick what republicans are pushing for to let parents know
10:06 am
the things they didn't know previous to covid. when all of a sudden, if they were part of the teaching plan and had to see what their kids were being taught via zoom, it was an idol for parents across the country and many reasons in the country they didn't like it. here is where this is so important you are donald trump lost in the suburbs by four percentage points and lost the election. glenn youngkin and virginia won the suburbs by seven percentage points and won the election. the suburbs are a crucial, crucial swing ground for republicans. and often the voters they are, suburban college educated moms are very focused on their children's education. for parents to have the right to know is a crucial part of being a good parent. i think republicans have a lot to work with here. >> john: i remember 2004 bush campaign would spend an awful lot of time and those of birds in the counties. >> yes, he did. >> john: around the major cities. talking about the fact that parents have a right to know
10:07 am
what their kids are being taught, a big part of that goes to books that the parents discovered were being taught to kids and were available in the school library, or at least they sought to take a lot of those out of the library. the public libraries as well but now democrats are trying to do it and run around parents by encouraging local municipalities to put those books back in. it sounds like they are trying to cut the parents out of the process again. >> look, i think that here do my key here is specificity. exactly what is somebody talking about? i like latitude and libraries as places of learning, expanding mines. i don't like schools go around telling you what you can and cannot read. but if there is a book or an educational program in florida, for example, that used to talk about gender transformation or changing your gender to elementary school comic that is inappropriate and that should not be taught or discussed and t should be age-appropriate and the book should reflect that.
10:08 am
so specificity is the crucial piece of this debate. and if republicans are specific at about that which is inappropriate, if it is overly broad, i think they can risk offending people. so facts matter. >> john: here's your congressman jamie raskin said about the effort to get books back in the libraries. efforts to remove books from schools, public library simply because they introduce ideas about diversity or challenge to think on their own lived experience is not only antidemocratic but also a hallmark of authoritarian regimes. i mean, clearly, there were two very, very diverse sides to this. there doesn't seem to be a lot of ground in the middle. is there some way for these two groups to meet in the middle? >> well, i think there is massive ground in the middle actually. most americans a libraries and places of intellectual learning should be diverse with all kinds of ideas. but when you go too far into teach things to young people,

[laughter] anyway but there is a lot. my dad used to have an expression, joey, don't compare me to they all might have but compare me to the alternative. [laughter] we have a real alternative here that this is not going to be an election of significant consequence. gun safety for kids and gun violence. the idea that you start school this year and kids in many parts of the country have learned how to duck and cover -- serious,

think about it, rather than talking about reading, writing, arithmetic is a different circumstance. it is not right. but is not who we are and not who we should be. folks, look, the survival of our planet is on the battleground. and generally is -- well, i tell you what, the thing that we found out and everybody found out, there are not a lot of total climate deniers anymore this year. but guess what, we have a lot to do. we go back a long way. [laughter] she was 12 and i was 30, but anyway... [laughter] this woman helped me get a lot done, anyway... [cheers and applause] right now... and it's not hyperbole right now to suggest democracy itself is on the ballot itself. folks, i believe american is at an inflection point and i
10:11 am
apologize i'm a liberal guy and i spend a lot of time with all of you, not all of you, but the labor movement and elective my whole career. i apologize, but i really think we are at an inflection point that occurs every three, four, five generation. it doesn't occur every time. but by inflection i mean these moments will be determined the shape of everything you come after and what we do now. but we do in the next several years will depend on what this country looks like and 25 and 30 years. it is that consequential. now, 46 days to choose, 46 days. and a vast number of my democrats drastically run over by the maga republicans. by the way, not all maga are maga republicans. i want to make that clear, and years and years remember i got beat up in the campaign by saying that i wanted to unify the country and unify the parties. you used to be able to do that. but things change all a bunch.
10:12 am
the maga republicans control the republican party right now. that is self edited. there was a lot at stake here. i will talk a little bit about that right now. earlier today after opposing obstructing everything we tried to do to stop progress for the last two years, the house minority leader kim mike kevin mccarthy went to pennsylvania and unveiled what he calls a commitment to americans. that is a thin series of policy goals with little or no details he says republicans will pursue if they regain control of congress. in the course of nearly an hour, here is the things we didn't hear. we didn't hear mentioned the right to choose. we didn't mention medicare or mention social security. so let's take a look at what kevin said today. he said republicans want to preserve our constitutional freedom. that sounds great, i'm for doing that as well and we all are pure look at what they have actually done.
10:13 am
the maga republicans just cheered and embraced the first supreme court decision in our entire history. the first in our entire history that just didn't failed to preserve the constitutional freedom but actually took away a fundamental right to have been granted by the same court. though many americans. the constitutional right to choose. and now nearly half of the states in the united states of america passed a ban on abortion or will shortly and many states, abortion is already banned even in cases of rape and incest. already 166 house republicans signed a bill that would ban abortion nationwide. and the senior senators from south carolina lindsey graham is proposing a national ban on abortion with criminals put on doctors and put in jail if they, in fact, violate the ban. in 46 days, america is going to choose. republicans want to control congress and abortion will be banned.
10:14 am
by the way, it will be initially banned but if i'm in congress, i will veto it. [applause] [cheers and applause] but i think what is happening, the ban in the case of rape and incest in the states no exceptions and try to criminalize it nationwide. but if you give me two more democrat senators in the united states senate, i promise you... [cheers and applause] i promise you... we are going to codify roe. >> john: all right, the president to the national association to a campaign speech. more than it is about education. let's bring in ari fleischer, ari, you are the president say not all republicans are maga republicans but then the dash most republicans supported appear that would be an
10:15 am
indication that most republicans are maga republicans. you see what he is doing here, he is contrasting the commitment to america that the republicans unveiled this morning with the democratic position on abortion. and a lot of talk about what would happen with abortion if republicans gave back control of the house here. this new commitment to america, do you believe it is an effective counter punch for the democratic messaging on abortion? >> well two points, john, number one if all teachers like those teachers standing behind joe biden who has outed up every time joe biden speaks, our education system is in trouble. this is the problem when you have educational association which should be devoted to our children is so partisan. we all worry about this who we send our children to and what they will be exposed to. second, this is the big picture of who is winning this election and the democrats to find about an election of abortion. republicans define it as an election about inflation, cost
10:16 am
of living, the southern border, crime, energy independence. it is a fight for the agenda. that is nothing new in american politics. in large part, that will determine who wins, the wind at their back in november. the democrats think they have success in special elections focusing on abortion. republicans have had success on the economy, which is why republicans in pennsylvania launched an initiative today. it is a fair fight. i think history still shows strongly goes to republicans. joe biden is an unpopular president and a bad economy, 70% of the american people say the country is on the wrong track. first rated term of the the democrats remain a deep trouble and will lose the house, senate 50/50. >> john: let's bring this back around where we started and that is education. the president said the children taught in classrooms to duck and cover rather than reading, writing and arithmetic. across this whole idea of school shootings is horrible, a parent of a couple of children myself. you worry about this as well, sending your child to school
10:17 am
thinking they might not come back is absolutely terrifying for everyone. but at the same time comic there are a lot of people saying, "shouldn't it be concentrated on reading, writing and arithmetic rather than pushing a woke agenda in schools? ">> yeah, that is exactly the point. this is why the suburbs remain crucial swinging around. glenn youngkin in virginia found out more how to address these issues because so many school boards in so many woke things exposed to him. the parent showed up at the school board and the attorney general merrick garland working off of the letter he got from the white house refer to those parents as domestic terrorists. so, this is a good fight to have. all the ingredients favor the republicans going into this fight. they need a because they are losing rounds in the suburbs, and they were losing rounds among college-educated women particularly. education for these type of issues and overreach of the democrats and the woke direction can bring the republican voters
