over border crisis in new york city but won't tell biden to end the surge. asking for half a billion, brian, to help with the tent cities and so forth putting up in new york, but not asking the president to actually fix the border. brian: this is so fascinating because he acts like he's a tortured mayor. never had to deal with something like this and his innovative way to get out of it with about two or three buses a day, maybe we got 5 to 10,000, i think it's 7,000 minimum a day breeched border in the small towns with no infrastructure. he says i'll do this innovative thing if you have a pen handy, it's something we should keep in mind should this happen to us. it's called i'll make a tent. the communion you're going to be celebrating, might want to have extra room in your backyard. you might also use a tent and people get married in backyards and they also use a tent. he spent $34 million on five tents in the bronx. has anyone thought about where

you located the tent? they gave this company $34 million to continue to service these tents. so it's like having this party and saying, oh, by the way, this is my idea -- have no money and the federal government has to pay $500 million, which means us, for his plan because he has a sanctuary city that allows illegals to come. he wants to be welcoming but he doesn't want to pay for them or set up infrastructure for them. he wants the burden on our school system, our metro system. and overall our social services system and he wants to be big hearted and open hearted about welcoming them here. he doesn't want to write the check for it. he wants the federal government to do that and one way or another, we're getting screwed. rachel: brian, aren't you at least a little happy that it's happening in alexandria ocasio-cortez's district. that's poetic justice and no one

has been a bigger advocate for it. brian: i don't but why am i paying for it? you asked for this? it's inhumane at the border and bring them to new york city and welcome them and you're so big hearted. but i don't have any money to pay for it. it's really straining our system. guys, last week there was a story that mayor adams says de blasio left him such a mess you have to cut 5 to 10% out of your budget and we're laying people off and cutting back on equipment and telling people from venezuela, cuba, saudi arabia, nicaragua, come one, come all because we have a big heart. can anyone look out for the american people first? it's not just a phrase. it should be a philosophy that drives our leaders from the smallest job to the biggest, and for aoc's district, she needs the waze app to find it. is she there and see her taking a major stand here and walking

i was just saying, look, i'm out and i'm around. i'm from the midwest. i think i have a pretty good sense of what was going to happen. i think the opposite's going to happen this time. pete: brian, what do you think? brian: i think he's out and around and hanging out with other democrats. for the most part, if the democrats going to be successful, they're going to run on mar-a-lago raid and donald trump is bad and january 6 or they're going to run on abortion. i think that the more you look at what's happening in our country, guys, you saw the stock market on friday, you know where it is right now. we're below 30,000, when you talk about what's happening with inflation or the president's reaction to it, when you see somebody else who just wants to give people the degree of freedom and then when you talk about oil and gas and energy as it gets colder and colder and i think it's 60 degrees here, the heat's going on and now your heating bill is doubling and now all calculus points to raising rates of unemployment coming down the line and cutting back

on raises. these are fundamental issues for the american people. michael moore, sometimes he's right. this time i think absolutely here we are in late september, things could change, i think things are absolutely trending the republican's direction and you saw that. i saw how you opened up today and you rolled joe biden's reaction to kevin mccarthy's announcement about what his agenda is. what he keeps going back to is rick scott's idea of maybe looking at discretion at nondiscretionary spending andments to cut social security. it's a simplistic approach and he's not addressing anything kevin mccarthy is bringing up. he's easy to understand and it makes you think that i think that michael moore, who's sometimes right, is flat out wrong. rachel: i remember in 2016 when he was on joe and mika show and he said the democrats are mocking all these people going to the rallies and the maga hats but, you know, where i live, people wear maga hats and i know

will: fiona makes land fall in canada as a post-tropical cyclone and it's heavy rain and ripping winds. another storm is brewing in the caribbean as florida keeps an eye on tropical storm ian. people there are prepping for possible major hurricane by midweek. chief meteorologist rick reichmuth is tracking both in the fox forecast. >> you said post-tropical cyclone, think hurricane sandy or super-storm sandy transitioning from a hurricane into a regular storm that you would see in the northern latitudes. when that happens, the wind field expands out dramatically so a really large area getting

incredible winds here across parts of canada, probably will become the strongest storm ever in canada once they go through and do all the checking on that. intense form and some of the images we're seeing out of nova scotia are really intense and same with prince edwards island and the storm heading away from people quickly and across the southeastern sea board, watch for rip currents all up and down the eastern sea board. we're in september, we're in the peak of hurricane season. we have five different disturbances, four of them are named storms right now but there's one of them that's going to have big impacts for the u.s.. i don't think there's any way we're not going to be seeing impacts across areas of florida tuesday into wednesday and thursday and a very good chance this will be a major hurricane for us. this is a storm right now. it's about 300 miles to the south of kingston, jamaica. you're not dealing with a direct blow from this but watch what happens, the water temperatures are really, really warm into the 80s.

need temperatures about 80 degrees in the water to get a hurricane to form or sustain a hurricane. here you go across parts of the western caribbean. heat contents and water temperatures warm really deep so as that low pressure pulls up water, there's a lot of juice and fuel for strengthening. also once you get here, the wind sheer will be gone. a very good chance we'll see very rapid intensification of the storm across parts of the western caribbean. cayman islands, hurricane watches in effect taking a direct hit from this and tropical storm warnings in jamaica and we'll see the storm goes across parts of cuba, western cuba and mountains break up the storm and the mountains across the northern site of the island there around 23 to 2500 feet. that will disrupt the storm a little bit but not a lot. it's going to be moving pretty quickly and then again this water here across parts of just to the west of florida really warm. it'll likely be moving fairly fast, at least in this spot and it'll keep the intensification

low and the official forecast from this, wednesday morning, 150 miles an hour storm that's a category 3 hurricane. thursday morning, this is seeing 100 miles an hour and it's only because the center of the storm is across inland and we'll be talk about a major hurricane somewhere here across the western shore of florida and up towards the panhandles and we'll watch for that. guys, not a lot of time to prepare. by monday afternoon and into tuesday morning, all your preparations need to be done and this weekend in florida is your prep time. will. will: rick, good information. thank you. florida governor ron desantis declared a state of emergency in 24 counties in preparation for the p -- possible hurricane. mayor francis suarez is joining us on the show now. what is miami preparing to see in the next week? >> well, will, unfortunately we have a lot of experience with these kinds of storms so we yesterday did a press conference getting our residents alert to

the possibility that this storm was coming. it would be intensifying over the weekend. it started off as, you know, as a tropical depression potentially now forming into and now could be a very intense hurricane by the time it hits the state of florida. of course depending on where it hits in terms of the probability cone could dramatically impact miami so we're getting residents ready and getting all of our systems ready, our pumps, making sure the stationary pumps and portable pumps are ready and focusing on a variety of different areas in the city that typically will flood with heavy rains and making sure that everybody is prepared. will: well, mayor suarez, we wish you the best of luck in that and we'll keep an eye on that and hope and pray and hope everyone gets prepared flat configuration if florida for what -- there in florida for what could be on the way. there's a lot of buzz and talk and actually there's some action around you as well potentially

pete: stocks tumbling friday after the federal reserve hiked interest rates yet again and recession fears grow. rachel: the dow falls to lowest point since november 2020 with big banks warning the u.s. economy could be entering stagflation. >> the most important thing is avoiding stagflation. stagflation is the most damaging to every part of society, every industry, all income levels and therefore i think it's important to get our hands around inflation as quickly as possible. pete: here with us is stuart varney host of "varney & co." and american build on box fox business. will: absolutely terrifying and projections are even worse if for where we could be headed. would you define stagflation? >> the economy is slowing or contracting but inflation runs strong. so the economy contracts, you still got inflation and you're stagnating, stagflation. let's not put too sugary a coat

on this, i think we're going over a cliff. i think we're headed towards recession if we're not already in one, and inflation will stay strong. i have to say, this is on president biden. right from day one, he was the president who abandoned america's energy independence on day one and energy prices went up. that's inflationary. he then spent $1.9 trillion just chucked it into the economy in 2021. that is inflationary. that's 10% of america's economy in cash chucked out there. that's obviously inflationary. everybody's standard of living is falling. wages are up 8% during the biden presidency, inflation up 12%. we're all going backwards and the stock market route has routed your 401k. rachel: i know. >> 100 million americans have exposure to the stock market largely through iras and 401ks. all of those people have lost one-third of their money since the highs of the stock market in

november of last year. a declining standard of living for all and a declining pension money for those about to retire. pete: you don't feel like the federal reserve raising rates is going to be enough? >> enough? pete: what impact? >> they're raising rates dramatically and will create an even worse recession than we've got. staglation will get worse and whether it ends inflation or not is an entirely different story and what's about to happen, president biden has passed this gigantic anti-inflation act, which is really a climate act. that's tax and spend in extremes. that's what we're about to do. as the economy is about to slide down and inflation is still very much with us, we're taxing people and spending up by trillions. it makes no sense. rachel: it doesn't make any sense and it's all about the climate. you point it had out so precisely. the first thing he did was declare a war on american energy. we know oil and gas have inputs

in everything that we produce and use. what should people do at this point knowing this cliff is coming and how can they prepare? >> it's extremely difficult. you change your spending habits. less luxury items, more buying in bulk. did you see that costco the other day, the buy in bulk kings, their sales went up 10%. that's pretty extraordinary. the obvious story is that people are buying in bulk to get their price down. that's what most consumers are doing. rachel: but it's going to hurt the small business guy. i was reading that barbers are saying people are not getting their haircuts as they used to co. i mean, this is -- people are cutting back but that hurts the little guy with a little shop like that. >> inflation hurts everybody. it filters down throughout the entire economy. people change their buying and spending habits. investment -- businesses change their habits. it has a profound impact and it's not good.

will: really quickly, stuart, this worries me as well. in late 1970s the carter administration and morning in america and 1980s and stock market and economy comes rebounding back. 2200 #, the housing -- 2009, the housing economy and the fed prints money and the economy roars back in the teens or whatever. both situations involve the fed prints money to juice the economy on the backs of those periods of time. that tool has kind of been used. so in other words if we go into this recession; right, then have policy changes and have a republican administration, whatever it maybe; right, and morning in america comes back. we've only have -- we can't keep printing money to do that. how do we fix it? >> what we could do is cut taxes. the way you push money into the private economy is to cut taxes and cut spending. rachel: and regulation. will: we never cut spending. >> this administration will never cut taxes, will never cut spending and will never change the regulatory environment.

military. joey: he's in denial with what wokeness is and it's part of the biden administration play book. obama was very crafty at taking a conservative talking point and turning it on its head. i sat through two of his state of the union addresses and there were congressmen that would almost stand up and clap and he could spin something so well it sounded like what you believed in. well, biden kind of does the opposite. he take what is the democrats are doing and he spins it back. he tries to make it sound palatable or changes it. what are inflation? are the gas prices up and now they really are. what is wokeness and kirby is out there saying the military isn't woke in the same breath he tells you that women in the military choosing not to re-inlest because of the -- enlist because of the overturning of roe versus wade is why the recruitment problems we're having exist. women make up 16% of our military and i props not 50% of women are getting out of the
