>> with just over six weeks until midterm elections. candidates across the country are making their final pushes on the campaign trail and on capitol hill. house minority leader kevin mccarthy announcing the republicans commitment to america plan with his sights set on his party flipping the house in november. welcome to fox news live, i'm aishah hasnie. griff: we've got some of the

closely watched races as they go to austin for the festival. and live to new york, we kick things off with things on the ground with the festival. hey, casey. >> hey, good to see you. both sides and both parties represented here at this annual texas tribune festival in austin, i've got to say a fa variety of topics have been covered, policing to education, the republican governor of west virginia, glen youngkin predicts the g.o.p. will do well. and hillary clinton was here yesterday and had a lot to say about former president trump, including that mar-a-lago raid. listen. >> did not find one piece of paper of any kind marked classified, zero.

and so, you know, i don't know what to make of what he did. i find it deeply disturbing. the bottom line is what the heck was he doing with that material of the. >> and of course, there is also most certainly some campaigning that is going on here, especially today for the race in texas governor. republican incumbent greg abbott is ahead in the polling, but today his democratic challenger beto o'rourke, he's going to be holding an event here at the festival as it wraps up. after today, republican congresswoman flores who is fighting to keep her seat down texas, and a lot of moving parts as we get closer and closer to the midterms. . griff: casey stegall live for us in austin. aishah: the pressure is on where candidate john

fetterman's health has been the focal point of his conscientious face-off with dr. mehmet oz. the latest on that race, hey, nate. >> yes, after suffering a stroke in may, fetterman is on the campaign trail and won't debate dr. oz until two weeks before election day and the conditions are up in the air and may threaten that entirely. fetterman is holding a rally in philadelphia right now. we have a live look at it and he's expect today take that stage momentarily and he's joined by democratic congressman dwight evans. this is a city where dr. oz has spent a lot of time recently. he held a crime round table here early this week, on monday. now, this is fetterman's first campaign stop in philadelphia. that led the philadelphia inquirer to ask why. dr. oz claims he has the answer, listen here. >> i'm covering an area that mostly democrats should be covering because it's democratic voters. why don't they go there? because they're ashamed of their policies not working.
9:04 am
when john fetterman says he wants to have legalization of all drugs and heroin sites, and you have kensington all over pennsylvania. >> and this as john fetterman backed tax increases on pennsylvanians. if elected to the senate he will vote for more tax increases and reckless spending. americans are struggling to keep up and fetterman would make things even worse. now, fetterman continues focusing on abortion and he wants dr. oz to reveal how he would vote on a 15-week national abortion ban. fetterman also focusing on criminal justice reform and ending what he calls a moral price gouging and decreasing the cost of health care. dr. oz says if fetterman is healthy enough to campaign, then they should be able to debate. separate from this, for the first time in decades, pennsylvania voters won't see a debate between their candidates for governor.

democrat josh shapiro and doug mastriano, and pennsylvanians won't see a debate in either of these. aishah: a state to watch, thank you, nate. griff. griff: and for years, the federal reserve forecast for pain ahead comes as democrats and republicans have their midterm message in the state of the u.s. take a look at this. and we're going to go-- sorry, a prompter problem there, lucas. we want to check in with you, sir. what's happening? >> good afternoon from wilmington, delaware, griff, where president biden is watching his granddaughter's field hockey game today and where the s&p 500 is down 17%. he addressed the nation's largest union yesterday in the nation's capital, filled with

public school teachers, many blamed for keeping schools closed to in-person learning during the pandemic. president biden didn't mention education much, instead, he focused on politics and hitting the g.o.p. >> the house minority leader, kevin mccarthy, went to pennsylvania and unveiled what he calls a commitment to america. now, that's a -- a thin series of policy goals with little or no detail republicans are going to pursue if they regain control of the congress. >> now, griff, here are the four new pillars rolled out by the g.o.p.'s top brass yesterday, quote, an economy that's strong, a nation that's safe, a future built on freedom and a government that's accountable. not mentioning the g.o.p.'s four pillars, but part of their preamble to what they're calling their quote, commitment to america, and propelled glenn youngkin to victory in

virginia. and they accuse woke in the way of basic math and history. across the country, the americans are feeling squeezed by higher prices at the stores brought on by 40-year high inflation and president biden took office inflation was just 1.4%. today, inflation is at 8.3%. it was already at 7.9% when russian forces invaded ukraine, more than half of americans say inflation is causing them financial hardship. and one in four families are cutting back on their spending. including perhaps you, too, griff. and the house minority leader rolled out in the battle ground state of pennsylvania. >> they control washington, control the house, the senate, the white house, they control the committees, they control the agencies. it's their plan, but they have no plan to fix all the problems they've created. >> americans have lost over $4,000 in annual income according to new studies by the heritage foundation, which is making it very difficult for

9:09 am
the campaign trail in my town halls as well as people concerned about the cost of groceries and the cost of gasoline. and the scary thing is, joe biden is doubling down on his policies. i don't see inflation coming down soon. energy leads inflation, a third of the inflation rate which was quadrupled. and this president is doubling down on his restraints on energy. >> will we see a plan from republican senate the same way that republicans come out with one? right now the white house picks apart senator rick scott's plan which leader mcconnell is not completely in support of. are we going to see a plan? >> well, we're certainly going to look at the future speaker mccarthy's plan and certainly i'm standing in line. we'll all be standing in line to get rid of 87,000 irs agents. beyond that, i think he outlines what we're for and remember, this election is absolutely a referendum on joe
9:10 am
biden, it's a referendum on his policies and we need to tether those democrat candidates to him. we need to keep the voters focused on this, this is going to be a referendum on the prices of gas and groceries, referendum on the open border and referendum on the economy and lastly, a referendum who controls our schools. so, we'll see. certainly he reflects many of the things that we're for, a strong economy, lowering inflation, secure borders, the basics of a strong economy. aishah: just to put a button on this, will senate republicans release their own version of this into america? will we actually see a plan? >> i don't think that we have to write out a formal plan. i think you hear us talking about it every day the things that we're for, a strong economy, smaller government, stronger military, standing up for our god given constitutional rights and traditional american values, like faith and family, education, hard work. aishah: i know, leader mccarthy has kind of put a warning out to the house that we will not
9:11 am
vote for this continuing resolution to fund the government if there's no border security a part of this deal. how do you feel about that? is the government going to shut down on friday? >> it just may, this is more inflationary spending by joe biden and i'm not for it. on top of the usual and customary spending of the federal government which is too much, he wants another 40 or 50 billion dollars, i certainly will use whatever leverage we can to get more funding to actually go in there and secure the border. aishah: it looks like there's going to be a test vote for senator manchin's permitting form bill. your thoughts, do you support it? >> that's going to go down. i don't think they have 60 votes in the senate. it's very-- it's all about joe manchin and west virginia on his permitting and it's all about one pipeline for him. but not about permitting for the rest of the country. this doesn't go nearly far enough. i expect it to go down, that cr continuing resolution is going to go back to the house and then we'll get it back probably late friday. aishah: let's talk midterms for a second.
9:12 am
just 44 days out and the senate is really still a tossup. if we can pull up the most recent fox news power rankings, it shows that republicans are expected to take just about 51 seats here with a two-seat margin of error, shouldn't these be easy seats to pick up, considering the state of the country with where inflation is right now? >> well, certainly, in america, nothing is easy, and it shouldn't be easy, but i'm optimistic that we can get to 53. again, as long as would he stick to this referendum on joe biden, i think we have a great chance. i've done over 100 town halls and what i hear two or three weeks ago is typically what the polls are reflecting now. i've never seen voters so angry and so frustrated with the president that wants 87,000 new irs agents and wants to forgive loans and seeing record numbers of people out there. every time joe biden opens his mouth, it inspires them to get out and vote. and the polls are moving in the
9:13 am
right direction. aishah: privately senator leadership says they're concerned about the states where they need to hold the ground rather than flip the seats. what states are you worried about? >> i am a note worried about any of them. i feel confident in ohio and north carolina, and marco rubio is doing great in florida. we used to be talking about that all the time. aishah: wisconsin. >> we've take florida off the map and i'm excited i think that ron johnson, not a harder fighter than ron johnson and i think we're moving in the right direction. pennsylvania we were worried about about a month ago, that's closing, and again we've got a great candidate. they've got a horrible candidate. who is going to vote for a person in a hoodie. a lot to talk about as we get to the final sprint before the midterms, thanks for joining us, senator. >> thanks great to be with you. griff: from the other side of the aisle we're joined by the democratic congressman from texas, al green, thank you for
9:14 am
taking time on senator. i want to start where house minority leader kevin mccarthy laying out the g.o.p. plan and among other things, in his announcement, he said this. take a listen. >> if you trust us, hold us accountable. we'll put it out to the entire country, this is what we'll do. but on that very first day that we're sworn in, you'll see that it all changes, because on our very first bill, we're going to repeal 87 first irs agents. [app [applause]. . griff: congressman, your reaction to the g.o.p. >> i'll react to the slogans. a strong economy as a plan, that's a slogan that you want the nation to be safe. who doesn't? it's a slogan. you want to build a future based on freedom, well, that's original, and told the government accountable.
9:15 am
i suppose that means he'll be going down to florida to make sure that those secret documents that have been taken from the white house and other places where they were secured, that they're no longer secured and there ought to be some accountability. we're not going to vote for people based on slogans, show us the plan and not the slogan. griff: and i want to bring in trump even though he's not on the ballot. and mccarthy if he's elected speaker, to stop the army of irs agents that have a lot of americans, middle class, tax paying americans and many perhaps live in your district worried that they're headed for undue criticism and undue audits and the like. do you want to respond to that? >> and that will bring down inflation, bring down gas prices, that will bring down the price of bread and food markets. griff: harassing tax paying
9:16 am
americans will bring down inflation, is that what you're saying. >> it's no secret that people have disdain for the irs. it's no secret and if that's the plan, then i'd like to see how that plan is going to impact all of these things that are really impacting the economy. it's-- it makes little sense to allow people to tell you that that's a plan and not ask the follow-up question, how do you plan to do that? when a person says to you, that we're going to have a stronger economy, you've got to follow up and say tell me how do you plan to do that? i'm not going to vote for you because you say you're going to have a strong economy. you can call a cow a horse, but it's not. griff: okay. >> put it in the kentucky derby and see how well it will function. griff: great analogy. listen, your colleague marshall said inflation will not come down because the administration continues spending. how do you see democrats getting inflation under control
9:17 am
by continuing to spend? >> i think we ought to talk about the spending that my colleagues continue to mention. when we were in the midst of a pandemic, people were out of work. people needed food on the table. we provided that. people needed to make sure that they could stay in their homes and not be evicted, we provided that. people need today make sure their children were taken care of that they got shots in arms, we did the things necessary to protect the people in this country and prevent this country from going into a depression. unfortunately, that is a worldwide problem with inflation, it's not something that's peculiar to the united states of america and if we had not had a global pandemic, and we had not had putin to move into ukraine, we didn't have the supply chain problems we've had, we wouldn't be having this conversation about inflation. griff: congressman, you talk about protecting americans. let's talk about the border. it's clearly a crisis with unprecedented numbers.
9:18 am
you're a congressman from texas, how important is the issue of the border and immigration in the midterm elections and what do you propose is done about it? >> it's always important. i propose what has been properly proposed by republicans, president bush proposed it, and that is to deal with the comprehensive immigration plan. my colleagues across the aisle see comprehensive immigration as a berlin type wall, how did that work? we have to do more than conclude we're going to wall people out of the country. there are problems in our neighborhood and we need to help solve those problems. we solve problems all over the world. we've got to solve problems in our neighborhood. those persons south of the border are our neighbors, they're not just a work force. we ought not to see them as a work force, we see our neighbors to the north as partners for business purposes and now we have our neighbors at the south as a source of cheap labor. they've got to be more than a source of cheap labor for the country.
9:19 am
griff: we'll see if that immigration legislation comes, just in the last is a seconds i've got. are we headed for a government shutdown or will the house come up with a cr next week? >> i believe we'll come up with a cr next week. i don't know that there will be a broad-based republican support for it, but democrats want to keep this government open and the economy moving. and we're going to do it. by the way, the drug costs are going down for seniors. the cost of insulin is down for seniors, things are happening that are going to benefit this country. it's hard work. adults have to get it con-- done and we're the adults in the room. griff: thank you for joining us as always. and tomorrow on fox news sunday shannon bream has interviews with from new york elise stefanik and democratic senator joe manchin. you don't want to miss that. check for time and channel.

9:47 am
>> so what cops direct does is we field requests from law enforcement agencies across the nation, doesn't matter if it's washington, florida or anywhere in between. they're telling us exactly what they need in the realm of first responder trauma care equipment, so that they can equip their officers so that when the call comes and there's a shooting, a school shooting, let's think about our kids for second or a bad vehicle accident, whatever it could be, they've got the equipment with them to render aid in that moment where individuals are hanging on the cusp of life and death and it's important to note the average e.m.s. response time, bless our paramedics, can be over 15 minutes in eastern areas, when a cop is on scene often in minutes and that's the difference between someone coming home alive and not making it at all. cops direct is making a difference, it's a nonprofit. griff: and good on you for doing that. take a snapshot of san
