on track to hit florida sometime this week with the panhandle in the entire west coast at risk. >> standing by. let's start with meteorologist tracking it all. where is it going to go? >> it does not look like a whole lot right now. lifting its way up towards the gulf of mexico. that is when this thing really strengthens. you only need 79-degree water to fuel a storm. suddenly this thing kind of explodes and become a big monster of a storm. hurricane morning's currently in cuba because this is where it will headfirst before lifting into the gulf of mexico and then we focus on florida. tuesday and wednesday, probably even thursday running up to the

florida panhandle where this may make landfall. that would be a category four hurricane. this would be a strong one. you will kind of see as a storm comes together begins to strengthen, and i wall over the island of cuba on early early tuesday morning. even if you are not making landfall right away on the west coast of florida, getting the outer bands of rain. windy and rainy. i think widespread talking about half a foot of rain. the closer to onshore the more rain there will be. it could be from tampa to the florida big band. areas you should pay really close attention.

florida prepares. the biggest since 2018. ian is live. charles has a latest. how are they preparing, charles? >> as with most of florida, the track is dictating the behavior. it pretty common after folks learned that the track has shifted west some. state and local officials here are urging folks not to let their guard down. as ian approaches the mainland, it is expected to develop into a major hurricane and that could mean tropical storm. moderate to heavy rain which could cause flood conditions. we are not seeing a big panic down here, but folks do seem to

be heeding those warnings. preparing for whatever impacts may come their way. the big-box hardware stores. boarding up their windows. making sure that their properties are protected. folks getting generators in case they lose power. meantime, stores are strategically trying to keep up with demand. >> i am being a little greedy. i have to have another one just in case. >> foreseeing what is happening. partnering with local government and where the need is. they allocate resources accordingly. >> definitely seeing a bit of a rush in the grocery store. myself and accrue without two big-box stores last night.

begins, we get saturated. it is ensuring that our generators are up, we have entered our stormwater retention , putting a lot of water. making sure we have our alf's covered. our shelters, all of those aspects working collaboratively when the other governmental agencies in our city. also ensuring we are communicating with our residents and they are preparing to the best of their ability. >> as for residents, what mistakes should they not repeat? >> it is very rare that we call for an evacuation. all of our residents to stay tuned. we are putting out information on an hourly basis making sure they know the supplies that they need, if they need to go to a

shelter, if they have a pet, all the information they need to half ahead of the storm and if we get to that point where an evacuation is called for, they need to heed that warning as quickly as possible. >> president biden declared a state of emergency for florida. how does this help you as they are prepare your city and your residence? >> we have an incredible working relationship on the local level in the tampa bay area. also with fema. those declarations of emergencies allow us to be able to be reimbursed for a lot of the tasks that our team is performing now and then again when we have a hit four hurricane is very beneficial to us. >> you have emergency management teams in place.

tell me more about state and regional cooperation. how are you getting supplies to some of those areas in the date where each essential czar running low. some of the big stores are running out of bottled water. >> that happens on any of these larger storms. the corporate groups understand where these shortages are and they are bringing the products in as quickly as they can. ensuring that the fuel supply is there. here in the city we have clearly topped everything off. our generators are ready. taking care of everything that we can before the storm hits here. i was with the tampa police department. a lot of experience dealing with these storms. we are very well prepared.

we want to rehearse all you can but you don't want to be on the main stage when it comes to hurricanes. >> you mentioned your generators a couple of times. how long can those generators supply needed power? >> we put generators for all of our buildings. looking to ensure our living facilities half their generators you hold up and ready to go and we have supplies of additional fuel. so we actually have generators for the busier intersections to run the traffic signals in our communities. dealing with the storm and on it comes to ensuring the safety of our community and serving our citizens once a storm hits if it
