this november. our law and order panel will dig into that as well as lenient crime policies and the impact they're having on american cities. plus, despite all of president biden's bragging about the economy, brand-new polling does signal that voters aren't exactly buying it. our panel will weigh in on that as well. the sunshine state bracing for a direct hit from its very first hurricane of the season. we'll check in with the fox extreme weather center that is tracking hurricane ian for us. that is coming up in a bit. first, the white house seemingly dodging questions tonight especially when pressed by our own peter doocy if the president believes america's biggest cities are safe. lucas tomlinson is the very latest on which party voters think is tougher on crime. hey, lucas. >> good evening. one of the major issues concerning voters in the midterm election: crime. violent spikes across the country countries major cities,

president biden's former press secretary jen saki gave the following candid assessment. >> they know crime is huge is huge from mobility for democrats. i would say one of the biggest vulnerabilities. if it's a referendum on the president, they will lose know that. >> as you mentioned, our colleague peter doocy followed up on those remarks at the white house press briefing. >> jen saki says crime is a huge vulnerability for democrats. why would she say that? >> you know, again, i can't do electoral politics from here, as you know. i don't agree with your characterization of what she actually said. >> this weekend's abc "washington post" poll has a majority of americans trust republicans to do a better job on crime by 52-38 margin. let's take a look at those crime spikes look like. philadelphia up 26%. new york city 34%. chicago 37%. los angeles 12%, san francisco

8%. democrats in key senate races in florida and pennsylvania have vowed to be tough on crime. >> in the senate, i'll protect florida from bad ideas like defunding the police. that's just crazy. >> i work side-by-side with the police, showed up at crime scenes. we did whatever to defund our police. >> philadelphia's police union, the democratic candidate for governor and meta laws, republican candidate for u.s. senate monday. oz spoke at the event. >> the lawlessness all of us are witnessing across philadelphia. the entire commonwealth is affected by this. it's like a cancer. >> republicans trusted to fix the economy and inflation according to that same abc poll. three quarters of the population thinks the economy is not doing well. people don't need the poll to tell them that. >> kevin: no doubt. luke lucas tomlinson, we'll talk

again soon. hundred teenagers trashing a wawa in philadelphia. the chaos. throwing merchandise, peering to dance on store shelves, ransacked the place. some kids in the video reportedly is young as ten. police are pleading with parents to identify the children if they were involved. good luck with that. in new jersey and authorized car rally captured on camera including burnouts and doughnuts in an intersection. two people eventually were killed when one car crash into another and hit pedestrians. police reportedly tried to break it up but they were "grossly outnumbered." over to the windy city, that's where folks are enjoying an evening out but then had to scramble for cover as a gunman to open fire. the drive-by shooting entering

one person and scatter the outdoor diners in the process. no other reports of injuries or arrests, at least not yet. one man infiltrated a police facility monday using a fire escape. reportedly climbed five stories and enter the building through a propped open door. officers at the time were doing s.w.a.t. training inside the building but the man still managed to grab a couple guns and even pointed them at officers. he was shot. he has nonlife-threatening injuries. speaking of crazy, how about some crazy video all out of california? two cars repeatedly swerving at each other as a road rage incident escalated. one of t the drivers got out of the car and started stabbing the other drivers car. with what appears to be a knife. before throwing at them as they try to drive off. the whole fight caught on camera by a bystander. no arrests were made. cops said by the time they got

there and everybody was gone. makes sense. irvine, california. moseying around a car. then he did what only a jerk would do. he stole a small dog for the backseat. then when the dogs owner posted a video asking for help finding his stolen dog, this guy actually came forward and claimed to be the roommate of the thief and offered to bring back the dog for a small fee. when they met up for the hostage exchange, you guessed it, cops busted the guy and yes, little mookie is safely back with his human family. love that name. good baseball name. you heard lucas mentioned this crime is having a direct impact on political races around the country. this is especially true in the keystone state where senate contest between dr. oz and john fetterman has been heating up. dr. aust picking up the

philadelphia police endorsement, the union supporting him. let's bring in applicable world-class law enforcement experts to discuss this story. former d.c. homicide detective and fox news jupiter ted williams. retired police lieutenant randy sutton. this is one of those stories that we talk about a lot because we've seen what happens basically going back to the summer of 2020. crime especially in america's largest cities continues to be a real issue. i want to share something from the u.s. chamber of commerce to get us started and then i'm going to get you to weigh in, ted. you can follow up, randy. it references an online survey of 750 small business owners and it says "56% of small businesses in the retail sector say they've been victims of shoplifting in the past year," according to new survey. 50% of retailers say that she

was got worse and 46% of them had been forced to increase their prices over the past year as a result of shoplifting. i get it. you've dealt with serious things, murder and mayhem. shoplifting is an indicator of crime, is it not? >> absolutely, kevin. it is an indicator of crime. i've been practicing law as a lawyer in law enforcement for over 40 years and i've never seen it as bad as it is now. what i believe is necessary is that we are going to have to elect officials in these various jurisdictions who are willing to change with the time. we are in the 21st century. we cannot continue to practice crime is that we were in the 19th or 20th century. that is problem in most of these metropolitan cities.

you don't have enough police officers. morale is low among police officers that are on the forest. they don't know what to do and how to do it when they want to try to do their jobs. it's a very troubled time we are in and we need to really pay attention and i think the voters will pay attention here in november. >> kevin: i don't think you're wrong about that. randy, to build on what you heard ted mentioned, we are talking about a very different type of crime. it is bands, roving marauders, almost wild westesque if you will. i've never seen anything like it. ted mentioned the lack of police support. numbers are dwindling around the country. forces everywhere especially in big cities, right? >> absolutely. let's look at this wawa incident in philadelphia. this is what i call a mass criminality event. it's not shoplifting.

it's not vandalism. it's not teens having fun. this is a mask criminality event where a mob of thieves are destroying someone's business. that's what the reality of this is. of course law enforcement. we are seeing this all over the nation because there are no consequent this commission of crimes. philadelphia has a radical district attorney who wouldn't prosecute anyone for anything if he had his way. let's look at law enforcement as a whole and what is happening within this profession. you have massive exodus of law enforcement officers. you have recruitment in the toilet. you have the lowest number of law enforcement officers in major cities in history. what is the natural conclusion from this? massive crime increases and the

lowering of the clearance rate of major crimes. i don't know if you're aware of this but this is national police suicide awareness day. we are law enforcement officers killing themselves. literally killing themselves at unprecedented rates. the wounded blue, that's what we are all about. saving the lives of these law-enforcement officers who are facing incredible pressures from the politicians and from people like larry krasner, people like fetterman and pennsylvania. this is tragic set of circumstances. >> kevin: it definitely is. i mentioned dr. oz taking a shot at john fetterman and democrats more broadly for their soft-on-crime policies. he called it normalization of an occurrence that is imperm impermissible. going to have to leave it there. thank you as always. ted and randy, see you again

soon. >> thank you so much. >> kevin: more buses rolling into the port authority bus terminal in new york city monday as the big apple continues to struggle and try to figure out along the way how to house new illegal immigrants arriving in the city. the city's mayor comparing the impact of it to the covid-19 pandemic. correspondent bryan llenas has that story. >> gooding. mayor eric adams compared the influx of migrants being bused to new york city to the height of the covid-19 pandemic. texas officials accuse the mayor of hypocrisy. >> what's amazing, you look at the numbers. >> this morning six more buses carrying migrants arrived in new york city adding to the nearly 14,000 migrants sent to the big apple from texas and arizona since august. more than 10,000 of whom are now in the city's homeless shelters. >> you have 3,200 school-aged

children. we are finding and incorporating into our school system. speak with a number of children in new york city shelters is up 32% compared to the same time last year. the mayor says they are overwhelmed. the city will open temporary tent cities or relief centers in the coming weeks to process and shelter migrants. 2200 miles away, fox news digital toward the inside of a new migrant welcome center in el paso, texas, where record numbers of migrants, mostly venezuelans, are processed. half are bused to new york city or chicago. >> the reality of it, they are not choosing to stay here. we are just a path for them to get to where they're going. their destination was the united states. el paso was just the door they came through. >> every day more than a thousand migrants are being released to el paso, city 12 times smaller than new york. texas state officials say new york's outrage is hypocritical. >> it is a double standard. this has been going on from the very beginning. thousands have been bused and

flown to the sanctuary cities. there is no outcry from anybody. now the fact of the governors from texas and florida are busing these migrants that's creating national attention, now it's becoming a problem. they are only seeing a small fraction of what's taking place. >> a reuters poll found a third of americans approve of republican governors fussing migrants to cities but a new fox news poll finds 60% of americans disapprove of president biden's handling of immigration. >> kevin: bryan llenas the big apple. thank you, my friend. the host of nbc's meet the press, chuck todd, giving his solution to the inflation crisis. he says it's immigration. take a listen. >> they are short 45,000 more. 400,000 in new york. a hundred and 70,000 in washington, d.c. even miami is short some 20,000. these migrants helping the labor force problem, supply chain, could help inflation.

you just want to say to the guest, go. this is my chance to do that. go ahead, my friend. >> thank you, kevin. i don't think crime is nuanced the way that jean-pierre is describing. they are numbers. either crime is up and going up or it's going down. you laid it all out in those graphics a few minutes ago. it is way up in places like new york city and philadelphia, major cities across the country. they all have a common theme. a, they are run by mayors who are members of the democratic party. b, they have district attorneys who are not enforcing the law and allowing criminals that commit crimes to go back out and commit those crimes again and again. the overwhelming number of crimes are committed by the same people. so if we actually kept these people in jail after they are found guilty, instead of putting them back out on cashless bail, maybe wouldn't see these rising numbers because other criminals are seeing okay, if i get

arrested, i'll be back out anyway. no fear of committing these crimes. i want to change the name of my book, kevin, from "come on, man" to "come on, chuck." as in chuck todd. advocating mass illegal migration to lower inflation. i swear tim russert, if he's watching this is shaking his head. the late great moderator from "meet the press. close with the fact that you're allowing something like 4 million people to come into this country in the first two years of his presidency, what do you think that does to our health care system? what does it do when all this fentanyl is coming over the border as well killing an average of 300 americans per day? what about all the people came into this country legally that want those jobs that chuck todd is talking about? or higher unemployment rates among minority communities here as you mentioned before, kevin. so it's one of the worst arguments i've ever heard.

it's not coming from joy to or joy behar. it's coming from the moderator of "meet the press." shouldn't be advocating for these things. should be asking tough questions and letting his guesstimate advocates on on his show and not him. >> kevin: this is interesting. full disclosure. i worked with chuck, liked chuck. smart guy, great guy. it makes no sense for the millions of americans underemployed. americans who are americans because they came here the proper way. they went through their paces to become citizens. this idea that "hey, here's a solution. bring in anybody and everybody. that will solve the problem." mayor may not be healthy policy. i want to wrap it up. i only have a minute. i did want to same jen sake made a comments on "meet the press." she said if its democrats and they are running on biden, that's a losing proposition.

hard way their experiment at decriminalizing hard drugs isn't quite having the results they hoped for. addiction rates in the states are still sky-high. breaking news correspondent trace gallagher joining us with more. >> hey, kevin, good evening. i think be careful what you wish for is a big part of the story. 2020 oregon voters passed the drug addiction treatment and recovery act to emphasize treatment. it eliminated criminal consummate is for possessing low levels of illicit drugs. heroin, cocaine, methamphetamine, even fentanyl. two years later, oregon still has an astonishing drug addiction rate, among the highest in the country. fatal overdoses are now at an all-time high. more than 1,000 dead last year alone. critics say their primary goal of the bill is failing because very few people are getting treatment. according to stanford university professor keith humphreys, who

testified before oregon state lawmakers, he said in part "on the one hand we have highly rewarding drugs which are widely available and on the other, little or no pressure to stop using them." david murray of the conservative hudson institute says you had to have your eyes close to not to see this coming. watch. >> it's predictable, it was predicted. now unfortunately it's coming to pass in front of our eyes. it's a tragedy and it's a self-inflicted wound i fear. >> supporters of the measure would like to see other states follow oregon's lead because they believe the drug legalization keeps people who use drugs out of jail and without criminal records. one oregon district attorney believes that view is a bit myopic, saying since drug possession has been decriminalized, property crimes in the state are up and so by the way are violent crimes. the issue stands to impact the oregon governor's race as republicans hope to take back the governor's office for the

turn this into trump talk at other things, i think the old adage still holds. he really is about the economy when it comes in the midterm. is that your sins? given where we are, the second part of the question would be, is it terrible news that's likely to get worse for democrats? >> i think it will. i hope i'm wrong about that. we've been having this big debate about whether we are going to have a soft landing or crash landing. given the news over the last couple weeks, it's looking pretty ugly out there right now. it is true, by the way, gas prices are falling but kevin, just about everything else in the consumer price index went up, everything from rental cars to buying new cars to food, utility bills. people are feeling the pressure. the heritage foundation says the average family has lost about $4,000 in purchasing power because of this high inflation. it's a curse. >> kevin: that's devastating.

angela, i want to bring you into the conversation. there is usually talk that dobbs or abortion really is the driver come the midterm elections but i think it's fair to say the economy really drives women as well in particular. they typically in this country run the household finances. they make the box. they pay the bills. they take care of families and themselves. this would seem to portend poorly for democrats. >> exactly, especially after the covid-19 lockdowns hit women and working women in particular especially hard. looking at these inflation numbers, it doesn't shock me at all that democrats want to make this upcoming election about anything except the economy. it's why they are talking about climate change and gender identity politics. what they're forgetting is that those are essentially luxury problems. if you can't put food on the table, you're not going to be concerned about your carbon footprint. if you can't afford to put gas

in your car, you can afford to an electric car so it's a real miscalculation on the part of the democrats put in a sense they have nothing to talk about in the economy, nothing to brag about as much as president biden wanted to throw a party with elton john. >> kevin: we've got a chance to chat about this and i feel like the strategy from the democrats' perspective ought to be "we are moving the right direction." it might be a difficult sell especially if you've paid groceries anytime recently but you can point to gas prices, some of the legislative victories. is that the strategy to blunt what polling suggests is a negative vibe around the country vis-a-vis the economy? >> yeah, i think you're absolutely right. we've had these conversations. i think the state of inflation where gas prices are, grocery costs, it's going to be the number one driving factor when it comes to the midterm

elections. the state of the economy is going to be critically important and that's why you're seeing the president campaigning so hard based on what democrats have done mostly single-handedly. we passed a bipartisan infrastructure bill but democrats are bringing down the cost of energy for american families, bringing down the cost of prescription drugs in this country. putting more money in the hands of americans and you saw with the republicans tried to do last week in pittsburgh really want to bring down the price of inflation but they have no actual policy recommendations. tucker carlson earlier today call them out on that fact. >> kevin: i listened to tucker's statement. go ahead, stephen. >> we have a 1.5% inflation rate when biden came into office. i worked for donald trump. we had inflation of 2%. when he left office it was 1.5%. >> look at all the other

industrialized countries. >> how do you go from 1.5 to 9% inflation? i didn't even think that was possible. it's because of the massive trillions and trillions of dollars of spending and debt. it's that simple. why did they pass these trillions and trillions of dollars in spending bills? i don't understand it. >> kevin: let me let angelo weigh in. >> i think it is extremely telling that the democrats claim to be fighting inflation and yeah, they're going to spend $420 million on a student loan bailout. they are pouring gasoline on the fire of inflation and it disrupts their entire narrative. it's totally illegal. two, in advance of the midterms. only going to make things economically worse. >> kevin: let me wrap it up with you, kevin. i want to give you a shot in what angela just said. the cbo score on student loan -- some people have termed it a giveaway. not looking good.

>> kevin: welcome back, everybody. hurricane ian expected to make landfall in the sunshine state later this week. fox weather correspondent will nunley tracking it from clearwater. >> good evening from clearwater beach, florida, and what would normally be a very busy night but instead people have been using this day to board up their homes and businesses and heed evacuation orders. this is one of several areas the

received evacuation orders late monday. 6:00 in the evening is when residents were told to pack up and get out of town. on the silent authorities are going to start restricting access tuesday morning and that's going to happen when a lot of these coastal areas, especially island areas that are depending on bridges to cross back and forth. we have no idea what the infrastructures going to look like after a storm like this but this is the site emergency authorities want to see people heeding these evacuation orders and not being cavalier. we are talking about a situation where we have seven to 10 feet of storm surge in these areas, tremendous amount of water to deal with. life threatening situation for anyone caught up in it. meanwhile the airports are going to start making changes tomorrow, more evacuation orders are likely there are hundreds of thousands of people on the move as we speak. we are continuing to track not only the movements but the movements on the ground as well
