house approximately 5,000 migrants. just one in five migrants in new york city is actually from texas. >> only seeing a small fraction. >> and we have -- >> it's a headline ripped from a movie spacecraft nasa. celebrate. the collision was a new asteroid defense system. >> step move by parsons. jones fired. the pass is intercepted. he goes down and the cowboys wrapped it up. ♪ >> steve: good morning, everybody. fox weather is tracking hurricane ian, the category 3 storm that hit florida probably some time tomorrow it. made landfall in cuba earlier this morning. >> ainsley: forecasters are fearing that it will be a worse case scenario for people living in the tampa bay reasoning. primarily south of tampa. and da tore evacuation orders are now in effect for that area.

pools are shut down and later today the last plane will take off until the storm passes. >> we have fox team coverage senior meteorologist janice dean standing by. we start with fox weather correspondent nicole valdez live in tampa. nicole? >> brian, ainsley, good morning. we are talking about hundreds of thousands of people in at least six counties along florida's gulf coast are now being told it is time to get out of your homes, especially if you live anywhere near the water. really, the main concern when it comes to hurricane ian, of course, we're going to see those hurricane strength winds. we are going to see the rain. but it is the storm surge that has been the focus of emergency officials warning people this is not a storm to take lightly. we heard the hillsborough county sheriff jack cornster really begging people to evacuate no matter how long you have lived in the state of florida and no matter how many storms have you lived in your lifetime here.

we have heard numbers 5 to 15 feet of storm surge are possible here. it's why we are looking here at people boarding up their homes, boarding up their businesses, preparing to evacuate. especially all of those who live anywhere near tampa bay. >> we woke up and saw where it was coming, we made a decision, you know, we were going to get out of here and go take some shelter somewhere else. >> we were going to hotel i don't have the money. so this was the best bet. >> preparing [inaudible] >> and one point of note we do want to mention the tampa bay buccaneers hoping to avoid the effects of hurricane and have now moved their practice down to miami which we know so far has been very much in the clear of hurricane ian, still a lot of work to be done. officials hoping to see many more people leave this area in the next 24 to 48 hours, guys. >> steve: indeed. nicole, thank you very much. dial in senior meteorologist

janice dean. she is tracking ian's path. the worry is they could wind up with 12 inches of rain and 10 feet of storm surge and that's the killer. >> right the storm surge. this is one of the most vulnerable places in the u.s. the tampa bay area. and when we are talking about a 10-foot, 15-foot storm surge, that is going to go over top of homes and inundate cities around the area and move well inland. they haven't had a hurricane this strength in 100 years. 1921. we didn't even name them back then. so that is the biggest concern. people are urged if you live in the tampa area, you need to listen to your local officials. this is the worst case scenario if the track comes true as we are predicting it right now. let's take a look at the satellite imagery. moving over western cuba made landfall earlier this morning. the eye still intact. category 3 storm. 125 mile-per-hour winds at 130. that's a cat 4. and we are expecting that in ths

very close to the west coast of florida. latest tracking worst case scenario for the tampa area that bay will be inundated. this will be like a bulldozer moving water in. and we are talking about close to 2 feet of rain in the tampa area. here is where we have our hurricane warning. want to make note from the tampa bay area down towards nehemiah you are under hurricane warning. meaning you are going to feel those hurricane conditions within the next 12 to 24 hours. storm surge warning. this is the worst part of the storm. this is the counterclockwise winds pushing all of that water into these vulnerable coast lines. the tawrp area, again, i can't stress it enough. this is the worst case scenario for them because of geography and the bay area. it's very fragile, so all of that water will be into this region is going to be devastating. and, again, here's the rainfall totals over a foot. some of the forecast modeling

showing close to 2 feet of rainfall. so obviously that's going to be a concern. tornadoes will be imminent in south florida, central florida, and then we are going to see the potential for the power outages not only for a day or two. but maybe in some cases over a week. and then it will move inland and the southeast coast needs to watch this. this is a very big deal. even if it weakens a little bit, we are still talking about a storm surge of a major hurricane moving into these vulnerable coast lines. >> steve: indeed. >> ainsley: some people are trying to scram being. >> janice: they need to. >> ainsley: i talked to one person who has three businesses down there. kids in school. has a house right on the water and they are panicking trying to get everything boarded up and secure but then they are trying to get out. but they are going to be waiting in traffic. these are the concerns of all the folks down there. >> janice: i know. that's why it's crucial to listen to your local officials because they know how to get in and get out. i am urging folks if you live in

the tampa area take this seriously. maybe at love folks moved down there recently they haven't felt a storm like this in 100 years. >> steve: florida hasn't had a major hurricane since 2017. >> janice: erma was actually supposed to move into the tampa area and moved south of tampa. they were relieved about that. but i don't want people to let their guard down just because it might move south of the area. they need to take this very seriously. and we can hope for the best but we need to prepare for the worst, which is happening right now. >> ainsley: when did you say you think landfall? >> janice: wednesday around the dinnertime area if the tract is correct. >> brian: thank you, janice. buccaneers went to miami, the whole team. south florida for the most part, the east coast will not be as impacted. for continuing coverage of hurricane ian download the fox weather app. or stream fox weather on your favorite connected tv device. >> brian: let's talk midterms. when you talk about midterms for the longest time we thought

abortion is going to be the key. the economy is going to be -- is going to be the linchpin. and those two things are important. what's emerging every day and sadly because all you have to do is look around whether it's a big city or small town, it is crime emerging. i read this story in the "new york post" today bill waltz 61'1, san diego, he says i keep calling the mayor. i can't ride my bike around these homeless areas. i hear these lawmakers in illinois two defund the cop women lawmakers. they both got carjacked within a couple of hours in illinois. >> ainsley: really depend on what the issues are. right now this is a major issue. that's a win for republicans. inflation, education, economy and crime. those are the top four issues when you -- if you look at that abc "the washington post" poll that we were talking about that came out on sunday. those are the top issues and those are wins for republicans. what are the top issues for democrats? they hate donald trump so it's

january 6th. it's the environment. it's abortion. those are not the top issues for americans right now. if this continues, if crime and inflation, we are seeing gas prices going up. these are going to be the issues in five weeks. and that could be a big win for republicans. >> steve: absolutely. we have got some video new overnight to show you. you know, we are in a big city. we are new york city, right? is it safe to walk the streets? not necessarily. is it safe to take the subway? absolutely not. >> ainsley: not at this hour. >> steve: look at this. so a homeless man was captured on surveillance video beating a woman inside a queens subway station last week. he was arrested as a teenager decades ago for killing his own grandmother. the suspect, 41-year-old foster has a lengthy criminal history according to the "new york post," including a bust for beating his grandmother to death in 1995 when he was 14. >> ainsley: he is 14. >> elderly victim in this case. >> just no reason she had 20 broken ribs, a stab wound in the

make sure that these cities, whether it's big or small, have what they need to protect their community. >> steve: right. what peter asked after that was something we talked about yesterday and that is on meet the press, jen psaki said crime is a huge vulnerability for democrats. and peter asked karine jean-pierre why did she say that and then c karine said i can't really talk about electoral politics because the midterms. but then she toke about electoral politics and why joe biden has done everything possible and bad guys. >> ainsley: we are starting to agree with jen psaki what she said about the referendum on biden now crime is a major vulnerability. if you look across the country, california, you can rob a store for under $1,000. you can walk out with a louis vitton bag as long as it doesn't cost $1,000. sell it on ebay you don't ever get in trouble. steal it from the store. new york no cash bail. we are seeing this constantly and commit a crime go and get

conversation with peter and press secretary there is a big item in the "new york times" yesterday talk about how crime is complicated. and what it talked about was, see, you know what? partially blamed the crime increase on? >> ainsley: what? >> steve: inflation. because they say that, look, higher prices are causing people to look for cheaper stuff and potentially stolen items are being sold at pawn shops, so people are stealing stuff. >> brian: who came up with that idea? >> steve: the "new york times." inflation. think about this way. we talked yesterday about how in the third quarter of last year the san francisco federal reserve bank said half the inflation rate was due to all of the money being pumped into the economy. so, in other words, by theirlyly theirthinking inflation is creag crime?

but then at the same time no president can just cancel a half a trillion dollars worth of debt. they can't do that. >> brian: the thing is with the 18-year-old that takes out the loan today, why is he or she plan on giving it back? why should they pay it back? they just got all these other people got relief. if you wanted to give people relief during the pandemic, you freeze the payments. turns out we did freeze the payment. and now we find out there is going to be no payments or 10 to 20,000, depending on your financial situation. so, this was a plan that he was not for originally. in fact, the "new york times" has one editorial shear excerpt from this guy peter coy. he writes this, there is a conundrum in president biden's relief plan for student loan debt. the more merciful it is to debtors, the worse incentive it creates. people more likely to unborrow unwisely if they expect the government to pay their unpayable loans. subsidize the schools and majors that do the worst job of preparing their students for

why doesn't joe biden work with colleges to decrease tuition. >> steve: why does it cost that much? >> brian: how about cut the interest rate a few percentage points. they are almost predatory loans. some are 7%, 8%. the prime rate at the time was 2%. listen, this is out of control. you cut it down to 4% and people say okay, you are going to bat for me but you are not forgiving -- you are not playing the inequality card and saying it's okay for the 38-year-old to pay off their student loans but not for the 28-year-olds so they can get their 20,000 forgiven. >> steve: what's the number one issue with all americans? inflation. and what did the democrats do they passed the hilariously named inflation reduction act. this particular student loan forgiveness plan wipes all of the deficit reduction from 10 years of the inflation reduction act off the board. >> ainsley: doesn't include the billions he wants to spend for the environment. so he is spending, spending,

# #. >> steve: fox weather tracking hurricane ian. category 3 as it heads over florida. tampa bay business owners already struggling with inflation are now preparing for one of the most powerful hurricanes to hit that region perhaps in 100 years. danielle sayier and diana adams are co-managers of ceilings in the tampa area and they join us from different locations. ladies you, good morning to you. >> good morning. >> good morning. >> steve: danielle, let's start with you, i understand you have been busy because tampa bay is very flood-prone anyway and the worry is you could wind up with 12 inches of rain and 10 feet of storm surge. you are filling up sandbags. you ever getting ready, aren't you? >> sure. it is like that every time it rains and when hurricane season comes around we are typically prone to being stuck if we don't

set up prior this is kind of season -- the routine for us. >> steve: yeah. but, okay. so, tampa bay is flood-prone but this is different. >>this is a storm that that area, danielle has not seen in a very, very long time. >> yes. typically, we wouldn't take these large precautions but given -- given the amount of rain that we are supposed to receive i'm glad that we are able to find the resources to get everything set up inside and protect our product and our store. so, hopefully we can -- >> steve: fingers crossed. diana, tell us a little bit about your preparation and tell us about the people who live in your neighborhood, what they are doing and whether or not they are evacuating. >> well, a lot of time my neighborhood has evacuated. the neighbors some are still

here depending on how they are living. i'm on more elevated -- my house is more elevated, so i think i'm going to be okay. also a lot of stores around seedlings they have made preparations for it. >> steve: sure. >> hoping for the best. woe did what we can. and so let's hope it works. >> steve: yeah, absolutely. >> i think the sad part is our customers are going to need us and we are not going to be able to be open. keep the doors open. this is a big impact on us as a small business. >> steve: absolutely. once it goes through. then people -- things will get back to normal. danielle, one of the problems as a small business, you have been just walloped by inflation and now this is like the 1-2 punch. you won't be able to be open for a number of days and then there

is going to be, perhaps some sort of, you know, recovery or whatever happens or just simply reopening the store. this is the last thing you need right now. >> oh, i mean, you know, last couple of years for small business owners, we have been competing with online. we have been competing with brick and mortar. apartment and bigger time. when we have something like this. that also throws another stick into the fire, i suppose. it's difficult but, you know, we are managing and, you know, because the loyalty of the customers that we have and the relationships that we have grown over the years. we are still here. we are doing okay. but it will take some time, i think, if there are potential damages that could be happening. you know, something flies through the window from the high window speeds. those are all things that you know, we set things aside for just in case.

people safe and secure. so what do voters do moms like me and everywhere do who is going to keep our community safe? who is going to keep our kids safe? and we are looking for alternative and that's really what it's going to come down to on the ballot is who is actually going to talk about and commit to these issues and i think republicans have the advantage when it comes to safety and security. >> brian: david, the weird thing is, the people who were saying defund the police and reimagine the police force are now we can't get cops. we can't get them to not put down their badge. on top of that, we find out that karen bass, for example, running for mayor against police got robbed doesn't feel safe. two lawmakers in illinois got carjacked within 90 minutes of each other. they also want to reimagine police. so the reality is hitting the lawmakers, david. >> well, the reality is hitting them, but they actually don't care, brian. they haven't changed their policies. so, whether karen bass loses two weapons, which by the way i checked have not been found.

these pollsters really feel as though they got to get this one right. they are losing credibility by the day. latest approval poll by the president is 39%. last saturday was at 45%. what are to you believe? >> yeah, it's -- i still -- until they do get it right. i'm very distrustful of all of these polls. but, you know, but, of course, there is this enormous effort by democrats in order to try to shift the discussion away from things like crime and the economy to talk about abortion. and the reason they are so desperate to do that is because when you look at the issues people actually care about, like the economy and like crime, all of these problems can be traced directly to policies. >> brian: i know. >> that have been embraced by democrats for years. whether it's defund the police. mad spending, or this assault on energy independence in america. all of these things are directly linked to the worst problems americans face right now. it's a perfect storm of misery
