>> start with the fox weather alert, hurricane ian, set to hit landfall tomorrow. hit cuba this morning. >> fearing it will be a worst case scenario for people living in the tampa bay area. the governor is set to address the state coming up at the top of the next hour. one hour from right now. >> we are anxious to hear what he has to say. we have fox team coverage, janice dean has been up all night watching this, an update
5:01 am
from the national hurricane center, but first live in tampa, nicole valdez. hey, nicole. >> ainsley, brian, steve, good morning. florida attorney general saying this is the storm we all have feared. she called the chance of us seeing anywhere from 5 to 15 feet of storm surge, detrimental for the tampa bay area. and unfortunately we are seeing the impacts of hurricane ian across florida. brand-new video from the florida keys, you are already seeing flooding beginning in portions of monroe county. it's part of one of the reasons why we already know hundreds of thousands of people are under mandatory evacuations right now. here is a look at all six counties that those people are living in. really all along florida's gulf coast and we are already hearing reports that the number of counties issuing the mandatory evacuations are expanding.
5:02 am
it's why people are boarding up their homes, getting all the resources, going to the grocery stores, packing up their cars, getting ready to drive as far inland as possible. we are seeing lines that wait for hours for sandbags, all the really critical resources people may need at this point to get their homes ready, get themselves ready, whether they stay with a family member, a friend, at a hotel, a shelter, many open at this point, including some public schools across the state of florida. but again, the concern here so focused on that storm surge threat. we are talking devastating numbers here, and we could start to see the impacts of hurricane ian impact the tampa bay area in the next 24 to 36 hours, guys. >> as we look at all the cars trying to get out of town, thank you very much. janice dean joins us. the worry is 12 inches of rain and the storm surge of perhaps ten feet into the tampa bay
5:03 am
area. that would be historic. >> it would. they are talking about this, comparing to the 1921 hurricane that did not have a name that brought devastating damage to the tampa bay area and they are fearing this could be very similar to that, and we are talking about four times the amount of population in the tampa bay area from 100 years ago. this is the latest for hurricane ian, still a category 3 storm, even though it lost its water source for several hours, still looking very intact and that is scary because now it's going to go over high octane fuel of the gulf of mexico with temperatures close to 90 degrees and not a lot of wind shear to tear it apart. 125 mile per hour sustained winds, a cat 4, the pressure is dropping. so that means a stronger storm from 4:00 a.m. abundant moisture over land and
5:04 am
now hours of fuel to go through across the gulf of mexico and the worst case scenario, is the center of circulation over the tampa bay area and bringing a wall of water. this is just like a push of moisture and water. they can handle the 12 inches of rain, they can handle the small core of 100 plus mile per hour winds, they cannot handle the storm surge in this very vulnerable area. that is the biggest concern. then it moves well inland and the southeast will have to deal with this. right now, worst case scenario for tampa bay area, governor desantis will come on and say people need to heed the warnings need to get out of tampa bay immediately. steve, ainsley, brian. >> steve: in the region, something like 700 miles of shoreline, 3 million residents are at risk right now, and that's why the local officials are saying particularly along low-lying areas because it is very flood prone, get out now while you can. and we saw the lines of traffic,
5:05 am
people trying to get out of that particular region. >> ainsley: and i was talking to someone yesterday deciding what they were going to do, they have three businesses there and their house there and three kids, two dogs, they are like where are we going to go and what they were fearful of. in the traffic forever. >> steve: when the storm hits. >> ainsley: and they have to take care of the businesses after the storm goes through, but your life is more important. you need to get out. sometimes the governors will make decisions and reverse the traffic so that both sides of the interstate are going one way. >> brian: and keep in mind if you are leaving, if it looks bad, grab your iphone and just tape your first floor, you'll be able to tell adjusters this is it what was damaged, the way it was, and it's so easy to do now. >> ainsley: that happened to you with sandy. did you take a video before? >> brian: yeah, and it was a
5:06 am
huge help. meanwhile, for continuing coverage of hurricane ian, download the fox weather app for, or stream fox weather on your favorite connected tv device. let's talk number one issue for the midterms. >> ainsley: a lot of people, it is crime. and big city crime is a major problem in america. republicans are prioritizing it before the voters hit the polls for the midterms. >> brian: one example of the crisis. a shocking attempted armed robbery now in a florida bodega, forcing the clerk to use his own weapon in self-defense. >> peter, yesterday you asked a question so complicated no yes or no answer. >> peter: back to the video, concerns of crime are bad enough in some places some citizens are taking matters into their own hands like this business owner in florida.
5:07 am
>> i don't mean no harm, i'm not from around here. i got a big [bleep] gun but i'm not from around here is what i'm saying, i'm from chicago, bra. >> peter: the sheriff now says words seem to fail you when your felony attempt is thwarted by lawful and righteous force. have a look at this graphic. crime is measurably up in chicago, 37%, los angeles 12%, new york city 36%, and new orleans up 34 1/2%. and voters are giving republican candidates the edge on both the economy and crime. so we tried to get the president's point of view. >> does the president think america's big cities are safe. >> it is not a yes or a no question. >> jen psaki says crime is a huge vulnerability for
5:08 am
democrats. why would she say that? >> i don't do electoral politics from here as you know, but i don't agree with your characterization of what she actually said. >> peter: i was just reading a quote from jen psaki, but with that, officials here at the white house tried to define many issues with crime, though, they say it's complicated. back to you. >> steve: and peter, i was watching the briefing and she said a number of times when reporters asked challenging questions, she said say i can't talk about that from the podium recording electoral politics but then goes ahead and she talks politics, and she talks about why joe biden should be re-elected and why republicans are bad guys. why does she do that? >> peter: seems they have made a decision to respect the hatch act and not violate the hatch act. they will not say specifically good and vote or go and support
5:09 am
this democratic candidate but will go into great detail about all of the problems that they see with this republican midterm framework. >> brian: peter, what was your thought when you were listening to jen psaki give an honest answer to that question if it's about joe biden democrats lose. is that the same jen psaki you dealt with? >> peter: it was nice to hear from jen there on tv, it's been a while, and i don't think it was surprising. she's been in these meetings at the white house with a lot of the same folks that work here. it's just that now it seems she is untethered and can actually talk about what these people know is going to potentially hurt them the most in the midterms. >> ainsley: peter what is crime like in d.c.? >> peter: definitely some areas of washington, d.c. like a lot of big cities you probably don't want to be at when it's
5:10 am
nighttime or a big crowd. just a couple weeks ago the running back for the washington commanders got shot carjacked and attempted robbery, and washington, d.c., with nfl teams, the nfl athletes are as high profile as it gets. and so if somebody like that is not safe in washington, d.c., who is? >> and you don't really stand out there at all. >> peter: no, no. >> ainsley: what is your dad's advice, don't ride subways, be safe, be careful, even at that age they give us that advice. >> peter: just run. >> steve: his dad's advice -- peter, thank you very much. >> ainsley: mentioning crime in new york city in the subways and people here are scared to take them, won't take them at night for reasons like this. one woman is down there by herself and this man randomly
5:11 am
just picks her, throws her -- watch what he does. does not stop. she has to have had a concussion. i mean, this is unbelievable. >> 20 broken ribs, a stab wound in the leg, and punctured liver. >> he stomps on her head. oh, my gosh. >> steve: and they have surveillance cameras, where is the subway police, anybody helping? >> ainsley: you have so many homeless and crazy people in new york, just running on the streets and so angry, attacked her like that. >> brian: and crime continues to rage. the only thing down slightly are murders, everything else is up. pam bonde was with us earlier, and put up this video of the guy in the convenience store, that's the excuse for trying to rob the place. he ran into a convenience store owner, had a gun himself and
5:12 am
said put it down, and you'll see -- they were able to see on the outside he would get a gun and coming in armed, so he went back and got his gun. that's what happens. you don't have enough cops. you can carry a gun and get a license. allowed to carry a gun. this guy wasn't. here is pam bonde on what was happening here, the former attorney general. >> it's not funny, but it's funny because he thought that was par for the course in chicago. you walk in and you rob somewhere. well, you are not in kansas anymore, dorothy and you are in florida and we have to fund and respect our law enforcement officers. right here in florida they are out here trying to keep everyone safe from a hurricane. so we have to support our law enforcement, back the men and women in blue. i think it's fixable, i think it's fixable and i think the people of this country are seeing what's happening and like that idiot coming into our state trying to commit an armed robbery. >> ainsley: law enforcement went to find this guy and did,
5:13 am
arrested him on september 15th in florida and you know what the authorities said to him? you are not in chicago anymore, you are under arrest. >> and you actually go to jail. >> steve: pam is right, it is fixable but takes politicians who want to fund the police and support the police and some have been hard to find. >> brian: they have to understand, feel the wrath the american people are in. you have two illinois lawmakers who were carjacked within 90 minutes of each other who wanted to reimagine policing and defund the police, and then you have a guy like bill walton, 6'11", hall of famer, every time i ride my bike i'm harassed and chased by homeless people, it's not ok. if you are chasing down a 6'11" red head, a leading nba voice, that means nobody is safe from
5:14 am
being targeted. >> ainsley: you want to reimagine, defund, what it looks like. put the criminals on the streets, no bail, what it looked like. everyone warned you, if you do this, this is going to happen, crime is going to increase in the democratic cities and we are seeing that playing out in front of ours eyes. >> steve: and two years ago when they were defunding the police, people said i wonder what's going to happen, now we know. >> carley: open borders looks like, too, guys. four busses full of migrants have arrived at the port authority bus terminal. eric adams slamming governor abbott saying his migrant busses have created a crisis in the city. 13,000 have flooded the big apple, but texas governor greg abbott saying only one of every five migrants processed from the big city is from the lone star state. two men from maryland are charged with trafficking 15,000 fentanyl pills into connecticut by disguising them in candy
