the effect of the trajectory will take a while. we'll be looking at it from telescopes. >> dana: inspiring for a lot of young people. wonderful to see you. thank you for being with us today. we'll see you tomorrow indeed. hurricane hitting overnight. meantime "the faulkner focus" is up next. here is harris. >> harris: we'll begin there a fox weather hurricane alert. florida is getting ready for massive rainfall and dangerous storm surge as hurricane ian is charging toward the gulf coast. now a category 3 storm. it is threatening the tampa bay area right now with a rare first direct hit. i'm harris faulkner and you are in "the faulkner focus." ian made landfall in cuba this morning with winds up to 125 miles per hour. people are racing to gather final supplies and that's kind of difficult. gas stations and grocery stores are already running low and some

running out. governor ron desantis declared a state of emergency for all 67 florida counties. six of them now under mandatory evacuation orders. live just a short time ago desantis gave this warning. >> the impacts will be far, far broader than just where the eye of the storm happens to make landfall. in some areas, there will be catastrophic flooding and life-sleetening storm surge. you don't want to put yourself in harm's way unnecessarily. and doesn't mean you need to go across god's creation to evacuate. just get to the higher ground, get into a safe structure. >> harris: fox weather and fox news reporters are stationed across the state of florida. we're tracking the storm 24/7 to keep you continuously updated. fox weather's nicole valdez reporting live from tampa. nicole. >> good morning. mandatory evacuations have been
8:02 am
expanded for the tampa bay area and additional 90,000 people are now being told it is time to get out. that as we watch home and business owners put plywood on their windows, get up the hurricane shutters and leave the area. we have already seen the impacts of hurricane ian as it battered the florida keys earlier today. flooding already happening there. emergency officials across florida gulf coast say if you are one of the several hundred thousand under these mandatory evacuations, it is time to go. those orders span across ten counties all along the west coast of florida. if you live in any of the areas that you see shaded in red here, this is your time. you don't want to wait any longer. we could soon as we have been start to see the orders expand even further south. now governor desantis hopes that having teams in the sunshine

state will help. generators and pumps are already coming in. national guardsmen from florida and other surrounding states are here as well including 28,000 linemen. meanwhile, schools in 26 counties across the state have already closed for the week. some to make room for evacuees as again the west coast of florida braces for what could quickly become a catastrophic storm, something you mentioned, harris, we have not seen in several decades. >> harris: thank you very much, nicole for up to date and up to the second coverage of hurricane ian. be sure to download the fox weather app. go to the app store or google play. in a few hours prosecutors will arraign mark houck, the catholic father of seven in philadelphia. the f.b.i. is accusing the
8:04 am
pro-life activist of assaulting a volunteer at a philadelphia planned parenthood. his wife claims dozens of agents used excessive force when they arrested her husband at their home with the children present. it's part of a pattern by a poll itized department of justice according to some. >> at the core it's an assault allegation. one had already been dismissed by the courts in philadelphia. a year later the federal government steps in. it is a crime to forcibly interfere for those providing reproductive healthcare. a 72-year-old escort outside the philadelphia parent hood said he shoved him to the ground.
8:05 am
the federal government carried out the arrest friday. 25 to 30 f.b.i. agents arrived to the home with guns drawn. she told fox news they said they were going to break in if he didn't open it and had guns pointed my husband, myself and my kids. the f.b.i. is calling the claims and number inaccurate telling fox news they operated withstand arid practice and guns were not pointed at the family. adding f.b.i. agents knocked on the front door, identified themselves as f.b.i. agents and asked him to exit the residence. he did so, taken into custody without incident pursuant to an indictment. houck is being arraigned today. if convicted he faces up to 11 years in prison. >> harris: it's interesting to see officials on the defense trying to say what they had and wouldn't have when normally they don't talk about that sort of thing.
8:06 am
intriguing. thank you very much. >> president biden thinks american's big cities are safe? >> not a yes or no question but a question of what has he done, what matters is that we have the funding and we have done the work, put the policies forward to make sure that these cities, whether it's big or small, have what they need to protect their community and that's what this president has done. again, without the help of republicans. >> harris: she used a lot of words in the binder but the white house dodging the question on surging violent crime in major cities. it comes as we learn the man arrested for a brutal attack in new york city subway station that you see here has an incredibly violent criminal history, which includes murdering his own foster grandmother when he was just 14 years old. now the victim reportedly says doctors warned she may lose her sight in one eye. that attack adds to --

"fox & friends" weekend co- host pete hegseth. >> we're seeing shifts from the podium of the white house, a bunch of words and you're seeing it from candidates who look at polling and voters and say left wing policing policies not only don't work but have made people's lives better. it was easy two years ago to go along with the defund the police crowd or go along with the local d.a. reimagining policing. all the ideologues went with the

current down the wide path. narrow path was the recognition that people deserve to live safely and securely and advancing policies that do that take toughness and actually applying the law. you can't come 43 days in front of election and say we're funding the police and we want safer communities and we want to lock people up who are repeat offenders. people don't believe that. voters are smart enough to see through it. you can't reverse policies you put in place the way they have and the reason why it's cutting for republicans and it should. >> harris: 42 days. we don't have a lot of time. the commitment to america that the g.o.p. rolled out in the house if it becomes more of a unified message crime is definitely part of it. >> for sure. because it is not just one big city or one suburban city. it is cities across america. if you say we will stand with the police and reverse -- reverse a lot of the so-called
8:09 am
criminal justice reform which has meant letting criminals go free, voters will support that. alongside securing the border, alongside stopping the printing of money that leads to inflation. i'm skeptical if republicans will deliver. these are lay-ups. crime, border, inflation, and then accountability with investigations. let's see if they can deliver. >> harris: people are saying that's what they want. delivery is easy if they'll do it in terms of -- >> should be easy. >> harris: pete, thank you very much. appreciate you being in "focus."enter it is a crisis unlike we've ever seen. and i went to our southern border to get a firsthand look. >> i heard you mention busing to sanctuary cities in the list of things that are mitigating the circumstances you see here. you don't see that as a stunt. >> of course not, no, i don't.
8:10 am
hearing the concerns from the community and the ranchers and that's why it's very important to visit the border, because you get the hear the concerns not just from law enforcement and officials but the actual people that live in these communities. >> harris: illegal immigrants are pouring over the border at an alarming rate. agents and communities are completely overwhelmed as leaders bus hundreds to so-called sanctuary cities. ken paxton of texas, mark ber ber ber bernanke -- we are talking about america's border crisis. ore at . the new subway series menu. the greatest sandwich roster ever assembled. for more on the new boss, here's patrick mahomes. incredible - meatballs, fresh mozzarella and pepperon-

>> do we have sovereignty as a nation? >> i suppose we should. we do, right? i don't know any more. >> harris: the border patrol agent not quite sure if we are a sovereign nation any longer. the red, white and blue is under attack by the worst immigration policies the nation has ever known. from my trip to the border this week, "the faulkner focus", america's border crisis. and who do we meet at the southern border with mexico? i heard this answer loud and clear. send everybody. fema, customs officials, processing, judges, lawyers, even u.s. intelligence. more of them. because if president biden is going to insist on a handful of
8:17 am
states and mostly texas bearing the brunt of damage to an entire country, then at least he could send in america's best emergency forces. biden and his incompetent border czar, the vice president, won't go there physically. so i did. i traveled to the border to the number one point of illegal entry in this current historic wave of humans cutting the line in front of immigrants who did it the right way. >> we are headed to maverick county to try to help border patrol with a group they're working. >> they are tracking 9 or 10. >> it's spilling over into this country. getting more dangerous for texans here. these guys are getting a whole lot more brazen and actually shooting at our road troopers
8:18 am
pursuing them now. >> harris: what is the rule of engagement? do you get to fire back? >> if they use deadly force on you, of course you can. >> a lot of our drivers now are confirmed gang members so not he have -- you are mexico-based gangs in the u.s. now. this is the county line right here, i think. we will be -- >> harris: how do you assist them from the air? >> they are tracking a group of 9 or 10 from a camera hit that went off several hours ago and so they will ask for our assistance and we roll in they will usually say we're tracking this sign and it is going in a northeast direction. once the helicopter gets overhead in the area, the suspects will go ahead and brush
8:19 am
up to where they aren't moving any more. at this point we'll keep orbiting around looking for them that gives the ground agents time to close that gap since they are not moving any more. he just jumped that gate to the right. they think they are walking that road. this may be them right here. i have at least seven on camera, maybe eight. >> they are starting to move a little bit. since we are assisting border patrol it's their call. they will snatch them up and process them and turn them into the united states. >> harris: release them? >> yeah, that's what happens. this administration is letting them loose in the united states and why governor abbott and desantis are starting to bus them out of texas, they get that loose in texas and we're overwhelmed. see them running here, harris? >> harris: i see them. >> they are hugging the tree line right there running. >> harris: did you see that? they split up and went into a y
8:20 am
formation. >> that's what we signed up to do. serving the people of texas and why texas stepped up and doing a lot of the job of the border patrol who get told not to do. so they are frustrated. >> harris: this group today was mostly from honduras. >> looking for a landing zone. i think we'll come in here. >> i think you're clear over here. >> good. >> these days texas is doing our job frankly. it is frustrating for agents. we have a job to do and we have to watch the state do it for us. we just can't be any where but processing in our stations and processing centers. it is really frustrating. >> harris: how should it be working? >> ideally people trying to request asylum would come to a port of entry and officers would do the paperwork and take them where they need to go. border patrol agents would be
8:21 am
patrolling. customs isn't helping and we're left holding the bag. >> harris: how different is it now than just a couple of years ago? >> a couple of years ago in this sector we had approximately maybe 2,000 to 4,000 crossings per month. just in the first 16, 17 days in september we'll hit 30,000 people today. >> harris: we were flying in a chopper trying to catch. it took us a while but we saved your guys in that chopper 10 to 12 hours to catch those 15. you can't do this without the state. >> it's frustrating because we know while we're indoors processing people are getting away every day every station. we have cameras out there and see people's faces. we see their faces. we know that person just got away. we don't know anything about them or their history. maybe they don't have a criminal history but we find plenty of people that do. we don't know where they are going and they're just
8:22 am
disappearing into the united states. we're pulling bodies out of this river every day. we have over 200 deaths in del rio sector. agents are tired of pulling drowned children out of the water. it is traumatizing for everybody involved. >> harris: have you spent time the mayorkas. >> the reality is they won't do anything the president doesn't tell them to do. i think he could help influence it. i don't know what sort of pressure he is pushing bang towards the white house. i don't know how much of this from the white house is willful ignorance or intentional and they don't care because it's politically not convenient for them. i don't noechlt it is frustrating for us. when the haitian migrant camp formed in del rio we were getting phone calls asking if it was real from the white house. i couldn't believe it. they were asking is what we're seeing real? >> harris: do we have sovereignty as a nation? >> i suppose we should, we do, right? i don't know any more.
8:23 am
>> harris: ken paxton, attorney general of texas, mark b, the attorney general from arizona. they are worried about the people of this country. a.g. paxton, i will start with you. is texas doing the work, the governing on this issue that the federal government is not doing? >> we're certainly trying. we have to deal with natural disasters, it goes away. this is a planned disaster by the biden administration that is hurting my state, hurting mark's state, hurting the entire country. as you talk to these border agents. i've done exact will i what you were doing. i've been on the border, on horse back, boats, helicopters, i see the same thing over and over. thousands of people coming across. the damage to our state both economically and with the crime is tremendous. we're doing everything we can. i think you probably talked to
8:24 am
some of the dps officers down there. we're spending billions. we're doing everything we're allowed to do by law and the biden administration doing everything to get around the law and get as many people here as possible. >> harris: attorney general from arizona, as you hear this how worried are you in arizona is coming your ways. your problem isn't people moving, it is a record setting movement of fentanyl across any country's sovereign border. >> thank you for having me on again. we've talked about this over the last year and a half. more people have illegally entered our country through our southern border like azerbaijan and texas. you mentioned fentanyl. in the month of august here in augustana more than 5 million fentanyl pill ceased and 40 pounds of fentanyl powder.
8:25 am
enough fentanyl to kill the entire population of new jersey. every state is a border state. joe biden incentivized and decriminalized people breaking the law. it shouldn't be up to ken paxton and myself to file lawsuits to try to force the biden administration to not rescind title 42, to try to deport people with deportation orders and force them to build the wall. those are things the federal government should be doing. they have primarily responsibility. every state, every community now has become a border state and cued ing -- they get mad when half a dozen or two dozen people cross the border or come into their sanctuary city. >> harris: we asked for a fresh statement from governor abbott's office this morning and they sent one. president biden's reckless open
8:26 am
border policies allow historic levels of illegal immigrants, terrorists and deadly drugs terre to flood our communities. texas has taken unprecedented action to respond to this biden-made. securing the border and protecting americans. attorney general paxton, when you hear the white house, the president, the so-called czar of the border our vice president, kamala harris say our border is secure, what is your immediate reaction? >> i don't even know what to say. i don't know if she is just not in reality or whether she is just lying. i don't think there is any way any one could possibly say the border is secure when we have record numbers -- not even just record numbers. 3 hundred hundred percent increase when trump was in office and record numbers of people committing crimes. we have an epidemic of fentanyl overdoses all attributable to
8:27 am
the open border policy. the biden administration seems to want it. if you look at the policies in place when trump was here, we had this under control. we were making progress in the right direction and the idea of building a wall and using title 42 and stopping the catch and release and the remain in mexico program, those were all working. the biden administration has dismantled federal law and doing their own thing and they know the consequences and they still invite the cartels to bring as many people here as possible. >> harris: again, that statement from governor abbott certainly doesn't suggest he is going to stop any of what you just talked about including the busing and now arizona is doing it and now with flights desantis is doing it. i appreciate the time from both of you and i know the mighty battle that you are waging both legally because you are part of that as attorneys general as they start to arrest some of these people now and not just hand them over to the interior of the country through border patrol. i appreciate your time.
8:28 am
thank you, gentlemen. >> harris: we know border patrol has apprehended a record 2 million illegal immigrants. note, that is a fiscal year record and the year isn't over yet. since president biden took office the number is 31/2 million so far. what will it look like for the next few years of his presidency? all of that doesn't include the estimated 800,000 gotaways who try to sneak into the country undeteblthed. that was a new number given to me from border officials who were there. i went on a ride along with the texas department of safety to see what they're up against. it turned into an overnight mission to get the gotaways. >> this is part of operation lone star. we update troopers working private ranchs looking for illegal immigrants, who don't want to be caught trying to avoid apprehension.
8:29 am
we get together with our state troopers, also the national guard and wait for any camera sensors that go off that we can get the locations and try to apprehend them. force of manpower, rely on drones and air support. thermal imaging to track the immigrants especially at night. rely on the technology to let us know when there are groups of immigrants trying to make their way across these ranchs. it's an example of what happened nouchlt we got an alert on a camera. >> harris: this is happening now. you have six that you can see, maybe seven off in the corner so we'll chase them down right now. wow. these are the gotaways. >> carrying backpacks. you don't know what they are carrying in the backpacks and important for us to be out there. these cameras are good. >> operation lone star he made it clear those individuals we come across on the ranch, we'll
8:30 am
apprehend, place them under arrest and take them to jail. >> do they have any idea? >> no, they're kam fledgeed, you can't see the cameras. >> harris: they are waiting and moving. who trains them to do that? >> it's very unique on how they move at night. how they coordinate with each other. how they coordinate with the smugglers. that's why it is more profitable to them to smuggle people. they get paid whether by the immigrant themselves or communicating with families in the united states. they get paid a lot. >> harris: it's more complicated. >> they have to get through the ports of entry trying to move them across the river. it is more challenging. come into contact and with border patrol and other intel and what are they trying to
8:31 am
crash. chinese nationals are paying up to $20,000. you see how profitable it is to smuggle people into the interior as opposed to drugs. there is more of a risk losing that profit. you get to hear the concerns not just from law enforcement and law officials but people that live in these communities. it's what governor abbott did from the beginning. visiting the border. sitting down and having conversations with the individuals and their concerns and taking immediate action. >> three minutes ago, two minutes ago. >> they went through the gate. >> another alert we got. once we can identify where they're at or general location we can send up a drone and have a drone provide overwatch. once the drone confirms where they are at we'll send in the troops and hopefully apprehend them. >> harris: do you ever meet
8:32 am
resistance? >> yeah, some resisted. >> harris: running is a form of resistance. fighting is another thing. >> in terms of just running. when they get apprehended they are try to resist and get away. >> harris: in the times you've gone out what is maybe the one thing that you dread. you know that's coming? is it the fence climbing, the heavy brush, what's the toughest part? >> the cactus. it is only texas dps out here. the people they're tracking now we're already 10, 15 miles inland from the border and made it in. that's border patrol. it is only texas resources out here stopping them. >> harris: this looks like a lot of people. >> this is a human smuggling case. one of the troopers was able to track down the vehicle and as you see here i believe that's one of the drivers and the passengers over there. two individuals you see the number of people they have inside this vehicle. you can see they are all --
8:33 am
[inaudible] >> harris: his story is he saw these kids walking along the road and picked them up. they are wearing camo. >> that's typical. they'll use an excuse to distance themselves from the activity. smuggled from del rio and smuggled to san antonio and there it is decided if they will be smuggled in a vehicle, train, plane. so it's all based on the operation. >> if you cannot afford an attorney one can be provided to you at no cost. do you understand these rights? >> yes. >> harris: two suspected smugglers there, americans helping this process at the border smuggling the illegals into our country. i was in south texas district 28 stretches some 150 miles from america's seventh largest city, san antonio to the border of mexico.
8:34 am
part of the del rio sector with record setting border crossings and gotaways. representative henry cuellar is in "focus" now and he represents the people of district 28. congressman, how does a democrat like yourself in a political party that seems to relish an open border watch his citizens under siege like this? what are you telling them? >> we tell them we believe in the border and law and order. we believe in immigration reform. but what people want to see is a legal way for people coming in. what your story, thank you for being down there at the border, harris. what we're seeing is two profiles of individuals. the people that turn themselves in, the family units, unaccompanied kids. then you have the ones that want to evade and this is what your story was covering, the people who want to evade and where we need to coordinate federal, state and local government. i want to thank dps. i used to the budget there.
8:35 am
my brother is a sheriff on the border and i appreciate the men and women from dps. >> harris: some people want to come legally. if we're 800,000 or up from that of people who are getting away, that is the problem. so right now -- i want you to know this. the viewers will take a look at it. 1900 miles of united states border. only 706 of that has primary wall or barrier. 70 miles have secondary barrier. your people need a fully built primary wall down there in the del rio sector and they need it now. what are you doing about it? >> certainly what i want to see is have more personnel, border patrol down there coordinating with the local police, sheriffs and dps. but we need to have technology, cameras.
8:36 am
like the cameras that dps has. those cameras are very effective. we need to have -- the most important thing is we need to look at the repercussions. if you don't deport people they will see the border as a speed bump. we have to deport people. we have to deport people who aren't supposed to be here. >> harris: we don't have a lot of time together. are you telling that to the president of the united states and saying it to secretary mayorkas? everybody knows you need to deport them. you know what's happening the border agents and customs are processing these people and letting them go. now the part that you didn't see was the chopper ride. because you are joining us into the process of this program. so i don't think you've seen that. and we could see them coming. we had them on all of that very expensive camera technology and infra red system. we've got that. why not build a structure to at least slow people down who don't want us to find them? >> well again i want to see the
8:37 am
personnel, i want to see deportation. i think that will work. playing defense on the one -yard line is one thing. we have to play defense on the 20 -yard line. >> harris: are you telling the president that? >> absolutely. i have tried and tried and tried. for many years i've said that we need to make sure we do the right thing at the border. actually when you look at -- >> harris: do you think they're listening to you? >> no, they're not. >> harris: let me get to this quickly and i will get u response to it. the politics. that's what you are talking about now. they are untenable x congressman. you are fighting over whether those 1150 miles of unsecured border, no primary or secretary barrier, are in some insane way secure. here is what your party is saying. >> the border is secure but we also have a broken immigration system. >> if we agree the border is secure but there is still more work to be done.
8:38 am
>> look, the border -- the border is secure. the border -- we are working to make the border more secure. that has been a historic challenge. >> harris: i will say they're not listening to you. when you hear that is the border secure, is vice president kamala harris right? >> obviously the border is not secure and i've been saying this for so many years. we have to look at what secretary jay johnson did. president trump deported less people than president obama because we had the right repercussions. you have to have the right repercussions. >> harris: they had the remain in mexico. let's keep it real. >> when you look at it there were more people being deported secretary jay johnson. less people. if you look at the different numbers, but again you have to have the right repercussions. i've been saying this for so many years.
8:39 am
you have to listen to the border communities and the landowners. i lived in a ranch and being in the middle of know where and not knowing who will knock on your door can be very difficult. i've done it before. this is what my landowners have been telling me. >> harris: i appreciate you coming on as we look at this border crisis and you are right. we talked to ranchers, too. that's coming up. appreciate your time, sir. republican flores represents the people in her district of 34. so we're watching, we're listening all of this together. i take it that representative cuellar is trying because he says he is, but he is not succeeding. what is going on with democrats in texas, what is your reaction to him? >> well, we're sick and tired of this administration acting like this humanitarian crisis is not happening and we're really frustrated because this isn't just a south texas problem. we need all sanctuary cities to
8:40 am
step up and help us with the influx of immigrants crossing illegally into our country. we have thousands of people coming in every single day. we have women and children that have been through abuse, that have been through rape as well and the dangerous journey the biden administration continues to encourage. this must stop. we ask the biden administration to come to south texas and see what his policies have done to us in south texas and what it is doing to our country as well because it is not just the influx of people coming in. it is also fentanyl coming into our country killing our youth, the future of this country. >> harris: representative flores, henry cuellar is more conservative at times democrat. how are they even leading on this issue at all in any of the states. how are the congress people? you hear him talking there. what would you say to him? >> it's clear that the biden administration doesn't care
8:41 am
about south texas, doesn't even care about what henry cuellar is saying. that should be a sign to henry cuellar he should no longer be supporting the democrat party that doesn't even care to hear his cries and his concerns that he has for his own district. and he should have stepped away from the party that no longer represents us in south texas. >> harris: i don't know if you can see some of this video but cuellar and other democrats have said we want to leave things open for people to come here legally. we are being overwhelmed. they know there is no barrier and nothing there. there is a legal process already. there is. if people wanted to follow it, they wouldn't be the give ups on the other side of the river. you represent district 34. it has 85% hispanic population. a place that was democrat for 100 years until you flipped it red. now new polling shows that biden and democrats are losing ground
8:42 am
among hispanic voters. is this issue playing any kind of a role? >> absolutely it is. i immigrated to this country and blessed to come to the united states legally. i will tell you that the immigration is broken. we do need to improve the legal process. it takes 15 to 20 years to be able to come to the united states. i was blessed to have a father that was an american citizen that was able to bring me legally to the united states. i believe we must secure the borders but we need to improve the legal process. we need to hire more immigration judges, more asylum officers so we can process these claims. the majority are not real legitimate asylum claims. we need to be able to help those who actually do have a legitimate asylum claim. i believe that focusing on legal immigration and improving the legal process we'll bring down this humanitarian crisis. but again it is the policies.
8:43 am
we can hire more border patrol agents and have a wall and we can have technology but if we don't enforce the law nothing matters. we need to start enforcing the laws that we already put in place. that congress put in place. we need to also put back the policies that were working before this administration because what is happening in south texas is because of the biden administration and it is time that we do something about this and other states like california and new york step up. >> harris: i think about two groups of people in texas. i can only imagine your constituents saying to you we're spending taxpayer money, billions of dollars now in texas, to do what the federal government refuses to do. to make sure that those border patrol agents, texas dps and others are ready. national guard members who went with us at 1:30 in the morning. it all has to be paid for. i can't imagine people want their tax dollars spent that way but i can't imagine what would happen if it weren't spent that
8:44 am
