parts of southwest florida it so hard by those hundred 50 mile-per-hour winds. there are real questions about whether or not to rebuild. it is not just houses that's been wiped out, but the infrastructure as well. eight has been flowing in from across the country to florida. people are eager to help, first responders come in a more than states. it doesn't get everywhere though. some pockets like where i am now it's really at this point still neighbor helping neighbor. the governor of florida has said this is a 500 year flood. some areas got more than 2 feet of rain and the search and rescue operation started immediately at 1:00 in the morning as soon a the winds dip below 40 miles per hour they were out there risking their lives to save people by boat, by helicopter by land. if carried out more than 700 rescue missions, but still at this point more than 3 million people without power and it's been complicate it too get around without communication,

at charleston for my artist and they could be a storm surge of what 9 feet? >> well they are forecasting 7 feet and to be close to charleston with the cross our fingers and just goes to the north because charleston is very, very low country. it's called the low country and historic city of charleston floods even in high, high tides which we have this time year called the tink king tied season. the southwest coast of florida that is being phase one, the record flooding in central florida is being phase two. and now we are on the phase three of hurricane ian. take a satellite picture here of where it is now. looks like it is very disheveled storm, but very small wins may be even stronger than 75 miles per hour the hurricane center was estimating back at 8:00 for the hurricane hunters just look at their observations. even with this disheveled look the winds are still strong look

at the direction appointing. they're pointing at the coast of south carolina and georgia. so there's a storm surge there that is expected. now it has all to do with the tides and so here's the idea storm strength a little bit maybe up to 80 miles an hour. now based on the observations we've seen may be a bit stronger. not a crazy strong storm. atmospheric conditions are just not conducive for that. and arriving at the south kelowna coast tomorrow, it says p.m. but i think midday is about the right time frame think about that. and then moving north our talk about the wind part of the storm first. look at this year this red area is where tropical storm is expected in the purple area is where hurricane force winds are possible. in this area here as well tornadoes so this be a terrible day across around the carolinas

there. and it moves up into the mountains and the tropical moisture and the mountains are terrible combination. here's what the rain forecast is so wind was first, reina second, and then this rain is going up to at least in the salem area of not up into the mountains of north carolina. it's to be a significant flash flood threat. the national weather service has identified this region as very likely to have flash flooding. that's we had tremendous there today. his area of raleigh up to the mountains and back down from columbia and charleston. it's a high threat area for flooding, strong winds, and tornadoes tomorrow and then we'll talk about storm surge. so storm surge is the water being pushed by the winds. so it's all about the direction by the wind.

so the storage area is where the hurricane force gusts are forecast to be. so watch as we go forward in time. now we are at midnight tonight so the high tide is around midnight so just before midnight hide tight makes a tremendous difference there. and low tide that one even know there's a storm from. at high tide it 7 feet higher and over the shoreline over the islands and so forth. tonight at midnight is the first high tide and then we get to a low tide at six in the morning. as the winds start to pick up a look at the timing here. we get to noon tomorrow around high tide and this were the strongest winds are forecast to be south kelowna coast. i just north of myrtle beach pushing water into the shoreline, this is the high threat tide. we are hopeful for the folks in charleston at this comes ashore just north of charleston. because the winds go this way. that is not pushing water in the

charleston, which is too close to call and of course my concern for the folks there up the coast with an onshore winds. sean. >> sean: if it does go there that low country in the charleston area and have a storm surge that say 7 feet of the ring to talk about or that mean for charleston? siegel the problem is it's very low. now we have these king tides that are than ever ask you floods there in the regular high tide. so this is a stunning threat to the old part of the city of charleston and it low country. like they said i hope it misses there but there is a lot of other south carolina coats like i'll the palms up to coast th there. the trick significant to those people and local authorities there have a talk about this all day and hope that everyone does
