arthel: the race against time and much of florida crews are trying to rescue and evacuate residents from rising floodwaters after hurricane ian. fox news more than 50 people are confirmed dead. after the storm slammed florida's. there is also flooding from coastal virginia up through new england from ian. but in florida at the damage unleashed by this storm is staggering. authorities there worn the danger is far from over. i'll put a "fox news live" i'm arthel neville hi eric. eric: hi arthel, thank you

everyone for joining us i'm eric shawn. the infrastructure in some area of florida have been completely destroyed and washed away. just take a look at that. tens of billions of dollars will be needed to rebuild according to the initial estimates and the storm recovery just one of the top stories we are following for you at this hour. also i had her in foxley in the southern border of the humanitarian crisis continues they are as slow. fox news learning some new details about the jaw-dropping number of got away so far this year as some migrants are pulled from the raging waters to safety. and as the countdown to the midterms is on the balance of power in the u.s. senate expected to come down to just a few states. we will look at that. but first steve harrigan is standing by in northport, florida on the recovery efforts they are in the wake of ian. hey steve. >> eric, we've been driving up and down highway 75. stopping along the way, so many communities pretty much flooded

out. they've got three or 4 feet of water read many of these houses. they are very isolated per we have drawn up in the air trying to show you some the damage people still trying to get around in their vehicles despite the hot water. now yesterday was a day of urgent rescues. today was more from what we have seen of a salvage date. people trying to pull what they can from their flooded homes. either furniture's or in some case groceries but followed young men into his kitchen to see what he was up too. ask no fridge no power. proximity going to do? >> throw everything away. [laughter] x how was your are you feeling? no one. cooksey is going to lose that entire fridge worth of groceries. national guard says that more than 5000 people out on the streets of florida. they have rescued more than 1500 people.

most of those rescued by high water vehicle, eric back to you. arthel: rhc thank you. arthel: air, enough florida residents live in your swollen creaks are being forced out of their homes. the national guard stepping in to help evacuate people trapped by high water that is expected to keep rising. not just on the gulf coast but also in central florida. fox whether katy is live in st. cloud just south of orlando were evacuations are underway. katy, what can you tell us? ex arthel, days after he ian hit the south was part of florida other parts of the state are dealing with the flooding days after the fact. people here thought they were in the clear but now they are waking up to more flooding outside their homes. people who live in this neighborhood behind me are evacuating because of nearby creeks and lakes overflowing and causing the flooding you are seeing here. crews have been using high water trucks to drive through this flooded water. and you can see there is a tow truck right there taking a car out.

that's some people are trying to do, salvage what they can to their cars do not get stuck in this if it gets any worse. it is several feet deep times people cannot drive through without risking getting stuck in less that one of those high water just a few miles from here and disseminate national guardsmen to women brought trucks into another neighborhood dealing with the same exact thing. silla county officials are concerned the water here is going to rise to more feet. it's not expected to crest meaning it will not reseed for another three days at least. some people in this county are under mandatory evacuation orders. others are under voluntary evacuation orders. which just expanded within the hour. these neighborhoods we are learning a lot of young families with kids and pets live here but at the possibility of power getting shut off many of them are choosing to leave. >> we are just hoping that it does not get so high were our home is completely underwater. but luckily we taped stuff off and hopefully it stays that way.

at this hour, crews have five pumps actively pumping water at nearby lakes in the county. if ira katy thank you. stewart's katy just showed us the threat is another another threat what is left behind by ian. floodwaters rise in the central part of the state. allie's a public information officer for the osceola county sheriff's office. welcome. we just showed our viewers the floodwaters rising to feet still expected to go up and what is the situation on the ground right on the county? >> yes, thank you so much for having me today speaking on behalf the sheriff and the sheriff's office. minutes ago we were informed that flooding is expected to peak between october 7 -- 12 to the county's work with south florida water management in the u.s. army.

as you know county announced they mandatory evacuation of the village due to rising waters. as of saturday there was a voluntary evacuation as well basically we are asking people and their vehicles to not go through these waters. because at this point there is so much water right now that only heavy duty vehicles can make it safely through those waters. that's basically the situation we have right now the city of st. cloud also issued a voluntary evacuation for several areas and some others. we are asking our residents to keep themselves informed. calling 911 if they need any help from us but.

>> that is amazing what you just said. the floodwaters are expected to peak in about another week or so? this is going to go on for you when you are in the central part of the state just below orlando. the waters will keep rising for the next five days. was this expected? ian hit the west coast of the state. you are on the other side. what we are doing and now is to continue our assessment as the management and oh county as we did on friday were conducting another aerial assessment was looking at this point we are looking at the areas that still experiencing extreme historical level of flooding include right now portions of ventura lakes, pebble point, and other areas

thousands of people who cross every we would still be there? these are people who were in government custody and were released. they are getting a ride free to them to a city they have chosen either new york, washington d.c., the case of chicago we all saw the flight to martha's vineyard. go back a second on president clinton. in 1996 he did an immigration reform package that was designed to better secure the border. cooperation from local law enforcement with ice. talked about aggregated felons being mandatory detention, expedited removal. he was an advocate for border security before it was cool. in 1996 he signed a law into place that help fortify the border that advocated for putting walls up. arthel: boyd, hemp week, long way since 1996. you mention something, those of migrants what to go to for they chose to go to new york, d.c.,

and chicago. i'm not sure if they chose it, those were the cities that were offered if you will. but let's move on and on to continue on that podcast that we were talking about here. who also asked about economic migrants. people who are gaming the asylum system, when you think about that? >> that is what we are seeing, right? eric talked about the numbers 1.3 million people were being deported. the administration must highlight that. why are 2.5 million people in the pipeline? because many of them are not even been seen by law enforcement for they do not get encountered. at that 2.5 million who were encountered many have been released into the united states. that encourages people to come by disincentive of coming here, claiming asylum, being released into the united states, that is the endgame goal for many of those people will know for go to it and asylum hearing. they'll never go to immigration court for they have succeeded by

getting into this economy will never see them again unless you get arrested or they do something terrible. in this administration currently likes it that way but we have an open border and they have not done a thing to try to change it. arthel: you want to look at the results of operation lone star in texas. this is since march of 2021. almost 309,000 migrant apprehensions. 20200 criminal arrests, nearly 18000 felony charges levied. 336 million doses of fentanyl seized. the system is clearly broken. do you think congress can stop tripping over political differences and come up with a long-term solution before the severe disruption that president clinton mentioned section? >> the disruption is already with us but if you live on the border you see this every day. some these destination cities are reacting to the overflow of humanity is coming to this border. congress need to act predating a strength or immigration law. they need to resource the bo

their fourth day right now with hundreds of people searching by helicopter and high water vehicles. looking for survivors and of course unfortunately finding fatalities. those are people who tried to ride out the storm, decided not to evacuate despite the mandatory order. most of them according to the medical examiner died from drowning. storm surge is something to be reckoned with. this is a trailer park on the site as well. everything is wrecked and destroyed. the storm surge got into every trailer. even if it is structurally somewhat okay, inside everything flooded. everything is waterlogged starting to grow mold now and nothing at all is salvageable. as for the power, right now in lee county at 95% loss of power on day one. it is now down to 75% florida power and light is hoping to restore all power by the end of

potentially determine the balance of power in washington. for other those states include senate races in nevada, georgia, pennsylvania, and wisconsin. what is going to happen? fox news contribute opinion editor for the washington times carly is here. what is what the republicans have to do? what do they need to potentially flip the senate? >> well, obviously they are defending a couple of seats a part of the most celebrated one in pennsylvania and also in georgia they have got a hole. that is in this environment are not guaranteed wins. for a long time georgia it was a pretty reliable republican state. but that his change pretty dramatically in the past four years. they have got to hold those. they have also got to make inroads in places like nevada and a very good chance of making this inroads in nevada.

there are a few other pickup opportunities. but for republicans what they really need to do what they need to focus on is talking about crime and the economy. and in the races where they have focused on those two issues they find that they make pretty good headway. democrats are doing all they can to change the topic to talk about other things. and where democrats are succeeding at that the doing a lot better. >> democrats focusing on gun control, abortion, and other issues. and the economy. let's break it down. you just mentioned georgia course that is rocco warnock versus herschel walker. here's the latest poll. basically shows a 46 -- 41% as you can see on the screen there, warnock holding even. it is still close. what do you foresee for that? >> very close. and of course a minute ago i said that's an important pickup for republicans that is how badly things have changed for republicans in georgia.

but again obviously herschel walker is an untested candidate. he is not a politician. but he is very popular, superstar, everybody remembers him as a great on the gridiron. he is i think coming into his own. he is very smart, pretty discipline on the campaign trail. but again, eric if he is able to make it about the economy. if he is able to make it about issues like crime instead of talking about all things democrats want to talk about raffaella warnock wants to talk about maga, donald trump, january 6, if herschel walker can keep it on to those issues. and polling shows most normal voters care a whole lot more about the economy and a whole lot more about crime than they do about some these other insular issues.

for him. but he is kind of lucky in that by talking about but he does not have to talk about his record. because of his record when it comes especially to issues of crime which is again the most powerful issue just about any election but especially in these times, if he does not have to defend and answer questions about his record on things like a bail reform and things like that, then obviously that is where he wants to be. before then to some voters he has so much out of the mold does not wear jacket and tie, as it may or he has tattoos those tattoos have the dates of murder victims when he was married. takes that very personally. he is really unusual. have we seen someone like him in recent times? he is cut out of a different type of mold. yes he definitely is. but he also when you start

talking about when he can down and drill down into the issues about criminal justice reform and wanting to end the cash bail and things like that voters get very squeamish in this kind of environment but especially the area around philadelphia were philadelphia is looking at record spikes in crime. even if it's not happening in our neighborhood if you are in a suburb around philadelphia, you get concerned about crime. of course it's on the tv every night pretty c was going on in the city of philadelphia. >> the client in philadelphia has been aptly stunning. quickly, charlie what is your prediction? what you think is going to happen? >> i think in the senate it's honestly a tough road for republicans because the map is tough. i think honestly in this environment where the wrong track/right track is so heavily against democrats. and i think the most important thing is a democrat not running on a record of the past two

years. all they can do is find these other insular issues. you name to the most important and they're trying to focus on abortion parade that is what they want to talk about. they do not want to talk about the record. and that sort of environment i think republicans have a very good opportunity to pick up enough seats to win the senate. i think they handily win in the house. support will see what happens, charlie always good to see you thank you. arthel: eric, there's outrage in portland, oregon isn't crime runs rampant including four murders in the span of 24 hours. what are officials doing about it? that is coming up.
