comes as crews on the ground continue their around the clock search for survivors. >> steve: fox weather correspondent robert ray joins us live from fort myers where most of the damage is. robert? >> yeah, good morning. and you can see this 40-foot vessel behind me. it is crushing a chevy suburban. this is the road that leads to fort myers bridge that leads over to the beach where search and rescue is active right now. there are emergency vehicles that continue to come in here this morning as the death toll rises as we speak. and people that we spoke to yesterday, including officials and folks that are reeling from the loss of life tell us that those rescue operations could continue for another 5 to 7 days. let's watch. >> first responder have been working 24/7 for the past week. in what they call a complicated mission because of the amount of destruction and debris. in the days immediately after the impact, they were pulling

residents out from under the piles of destruction, a daunting and depressing process, even for veteran first responders. >> >> i have been on the job 30 years. tears. tears my first reaction, tears screamed down my face for what this storm meant for my community and for this community that i have served for all these years. so many people with that sentiment and to hear that first responder to has been at this for three decades describe his emotions guys, this is ongoing. it is fluid still and as you heard the fire chief tell me it is amazing that they are continuing this a week after hurricane ian came in. the search and rescue goes on. pulling, hope flirks survivors out of the rubble. it will go on for another week he thinks as power outages continue to dwindle. they are about 3,000 right now. we are told by the utility companies that by the end of the weekend, they could have power restored in the places that have infrastructure. not situations like this at all. meanwhile, as you mentioned, president biden and the first lady will visit the ground here today and meet with governor ron desantis. as this disaster could be one of the costliest in american his industry. back to you. >> ainsley: robert, with the death toll going up, do you know -- how did the majority

die? was it water-related? >> the storm surge, record storm surge certainly. on the beach just a mile or so down there across the inlet, i mean, we saw surge at some places up to 18 feet. it literally looked like the gulf of mexico. but, yet, did was covering businesses and homes and the beach community. right now, the details are still coming out from officials and we will find out more, i think, in the coming days. but, the storm surge right now is what impacted many people that were injured or lost their life. the winds were intense, too. but when you have water coming n that kind of energy. and you did not evacuate, there is really -- there is really no way to get out of a situation like that. >> steve: robert ray reporting down fort myers, florida where it continues one week later it is still a rescue effort. they are still looking for people who are alive.

the college? >> well, first, listen, we all pour our hearts out to the family. they have asked for a degree of privacy. of course, we honor that the community is shaken. and while, you know, the victim was -- had no association with the criminals, certainly it is it has shattered the innocence of a college community in and our community as a whole. let me say this very clearly, all of us call new york home and certainly we have seen this in the suburbs of new york. you know, crime is on the rise. via lessons is on the rise. there are people, policymakers and others who live in some sort of alternative reality where they either don't want to admit or accept failure for policies that are making us less safe and more dangerous or too ignorant to understand the violence that people are facing every day in every community. >> steve: mark, exit question my parents ran a hotel for decades. people at hotels knows who is in

so, now, as the reserves are set to come to an end later on this month, the impact or the cut rather would essentially have doubled the impact and potentially send gas prices soaring. the white house confirmed yesterday they have got no plans to continue selling the nation's reserves, which now sit at a 40 year low and all of this has reportedly sent the white house into a full blown panic. several top energy and national security officials went to saudi arabia late last month to try to stop the saudis from doing. this the white house also reportedly asked treasury secretary janet yell ton make the case some gulf state finance ministers that this would be extremely damaging to the global economy and according to one report, the white house even offered to buy back up to 200 million barrels to refill its reserves if opec plus were to hold off on this decision. with the midterms right around the corner, time something terrible for the white house. lately the president has been taking credit for gas prices dropping. now that it's on therise, crick.

attack. even then when you were tempted to feel sorry for yourself and what you have lost, the lord kept reminding me of where he was and who he was with. and i could rejoice. so, i mean, people say there are no atheists in the fox hole. we don't know that i have never been in a fox hole. i know any time is a good time to reach out and gas grasp the d of god. if you already have a relationship with him you just squeeze tighter. you just do. i truly don't know how anybody can get through a day in their life and i don't judge people for the choices they make, but personally, i can't get through a day in my life without seeking the lord and his will and his i need him. i have been stumbling with jesus since i was 12 years old. i make mistakes every single day. i just -- he is my constant. you know, storms come and go. but he is the same today yesterday and forever.
