now to address the crime stats as we speak. we wanted to show you a live look at that and may be able to do that coming up. for now house minority leader kevin mccarthy was just with me yesterday. >> why is crime at a level it hasn't been in 20 years? because democrats defunded the police. they elected woke d.a.s who don't believe in putting people in jail. somebody gets arrested but they are let out before the officer is even off duty. this is exactly what the democrat policy that they promoted, that they moved through and in a commitment to america, we build on a nation that is safe. >> harris: republican congressman and now new york governor candidate lee zeldin is in "focus."enter let's begin with team fox coverage on america's crime crisis. alexis mcadams with new information on the new york father murderee marist colle visiting his son.

york city police department commissioner news conference getting started on all the crime statistics. there are cities that aren't even reporting them all to the f.b.i. it is unbelievable where we are right now congressman. let's move to this. less than an hour ago new york city mayor eric adams declared a state of emergency. it's not over the crime in his city, it's over the illegal immigrants that texas governor abbott and other governors are sending to new york city because their areas are overflowing. and they would like for other people to know what is going on at the border. the mayor of new york city is blaming those republicans and now demanding aid from the federal government and not giving it to those border communities instead. taking it from them and giving them to this liberal city. >> we have not asked for this. there was never any agreement to take on the job of supporting

what we should be doing is calling on president biden and the biden administration to secure our southern border, end catch and release and force the remain in mexico policy, support a customs and border patrol agents. stop incentivizing and rewarding illegal entry. that's actually how we'll solve it. if the federal government sent new york city a check today to take care of everyone who is here currently illegally, it won't solve the issue. you still have people coming across illegally every day. if you want to talk about a state of emergency, it is not just about people who are coming, it is also about things. it is about the fentanyl and drugs that pour across the southern border and that ends up inside of these cities and these states across the country. the last thing i would say these border communities and border states, they're desperate. they don't know what else to do. we shouldn't be speaking of this as if they have a bunch of other choices on the table. they are begging the federal government for help. they feel like they have run out

marijuana, it is about a whole embrace of a drug culture. if we care about people, that should guide what we do and the democrats once again show it is not about helping people, it is about winning races. >> harris: your reaction. >> so i actually have no problem with what president biden did. donald trump signed criminal justice reform in 2018 that reduced sentences for non-violent offenses. the question is the timing. doing this a few weeks before a mid-term election wreaks, pun intended of using the pardon power in order to win votes. you just see john fetterman took credit for this saying when joe biden came to pennsylvania, he lobbied him to do this. which begs the question for pennsylvania voters if fetterman had a chance to corner the president on one issue he didn't choose inflation, crime, the border or gas prices, he didn't

choose food prices. he chose releasing criminals from jail. that was his number one issue. >> harris: the reform your talking about that former president trump did and biden is doing at a certain time he is trying it now with single offense marijuana use as being that initial crime, my question would be, maybe it's more of a concern or observation, we have a party through many liberal d.a.s willing to redefine the justice department and what an actual crime is. should we be concerned at all this is a gateway to something else? maybe we'll redefine that and make that a misdemeanor. they are doing some of that now. >> the other difference. in 2018 when donald trump did criminal justice reform there wasn't -- we weren't in the middle of the worst crime wave since the 1990s. violent crime was under control. what allowed him to take these steps.

since then thanks to democratic policies you just talked about the murder rates without not l.a. or new york reporting in. we're in the midst of the worst crime wave since the 1990s and you have democrats out this running in swing races about releasing criminals. mandela barnes wants to cut the prison population in half and fetterman wants to cut it by a third. fetterman wants to release convicted murders which is different than what biden did. it's a pattern they want to release criminals from jail is what they're running on. >> harris: how about mercy for the victims and their families? we have to do this fast. yet another excuse with hillary clinton from her one-time aide huma abiden. let's watch together. >> another challenge, you know this well.

hillary had to face as a woman in politics all these impossible standards. she needs to be taller, shorter, talk this way. we can't see women as commander-in-chief. we close our eyes and think of a president and think of a man. >> harris: marc. >> hillary clinton didn't lose because of an impossible standard. she lost according to the polls 54% of voters believed she was corrupt. 56% thought she should have been charged in the server case and 11% of voters thought she was honest and trustworthy. 14% of americans believe in big foot. there are more americans who believe in says -- you won't win an election that way. >> harris: for anybody who thought hillary might have aspirations to run again you say what real quick? >> bring it on.
