[cheers and applause] made in america. that's not hyperbole, i'm not joking about that, as you know. i was able to bring gasoline down well over $1.60, but it's inching up because of what the russians and the saudis just did. i'm not finished with that yet. will: made in america, just two words. guys' really great off the wall segment, like, how he brought the prices down was, you know, the strategic petroleum reserve and also i think people are just driving less. they have less money, they can't go anywhere. they can't go out to eat -- pete: yeah, he's begging the enemieses of our country to produce more oil while he decimates our economy, taps into the energy reserves, and just two years ago we were energy independent. that wasn't the reason when it was going down, of course, none of the economics work for this at all. it's campaign season. by the way, doing the research for that off the wall, the fact that both clinton and obama tap into the strategic oil reserve right before an election as well as a little political boost, i don't think that's what it's for. rachel: no, it's definitely not for that. will: to bring down can gas prices right before an election. by the same amount, by the way, that you're depressing domestic oil and gas production, down a million barrels a day from our peak two years ago and a million

barrels a day we're releasing -- rachel: and it's not working, right? because at some point we just need to unleash american energy from underneath our feet which we are so blessed with, and he's not doing that. bret baier, by the way, had the vape saudi arabian miner is of state -- pete: secretary of state, yeah. rachel: had him on and talk ad to him about how joe biden is blaming saudi arabia and russia, of course, for the gas prices. here's what he had to say. >> the idea that saudi arabia would do this to harm the u.s. or to be in any way politically involved is absolutely not correct at all. with due respect are, the reason you have high prices in the united states is because you have the refining shortage that has been in existence for more than 20 years. you haven't built refineries in decades. disease as a -- it's as a result of that that you have a shortage. the price of gasoline has

nothing to do with the fundamentals of crude or supply. will: well, you know, the thing about that is our refining capacity's been with fairly constant, to his point. it's not easy to put a new refinery online overnight, and yet we were energy independent a few years ago, and gas prices were certainly lower. rachel: yeah. will: so, you know, what's the outlier effect here? it's production. rachel: that's right. pete: yes, it is. and as we broke down, the margins are actually small on becoming a net exporter or importer. but if you're up an additional million barrels per day which we were under trump, then you can cut out russia and saudi arabia if you want to, and you won't have to rely on them. the for more you produce, the less entang thinged, to use the words of george washington, less foreign entanglements are required. rachel: absolutely.

and also you make people's lives better. why are we, you know, constricting our own energy production? we're doing it because there's this belief that, you know, either, you know, that green new energy is -- or that fossil fuels are evil and green energy is somehow much better, but there's also control issues. i think other forms of energy allow government and other entities to control us more through our uses whether it's electric cars or what not. but the point is that these green energy policies are not making us safe. i think they're driving and expanding that war in ukraine by funding russian oil and making them more powerful. but also i think they're cruel. they're making people poorer in this country. they're causing famines in other countries. this is a absolute cruel policy to enforce an energy that is simply not ready right now and make people's gas prices, food prices go up when they just want

to feed their families. will: you know, in other news this week as well -- or not in other news, on the same topic, joe bidenen -- you guys probably saw the clip -- nobody fs with a biden. pete: yeah. kind of a9 hot michael deal. rachel: or a mafia deal. [laughter] will: in the wake of these opec if production cutses -- rachel: that's a funny one. will: no one blanks with a biden, huh? except for opec. pete: yeah, you can't blame saudi arabia when they make their own decisions after you begged them. of it's hard to turn around and blame them, but that's what they're doing. they don't actually work for us. we shouldn't want it that way. another big, newsworthy event which is more interesting to talk about is tucker carlson interviewing kanye west, two-part, two nights, absolutely captivating. and he talked about his political profession, what -- progression, what it's like to

be a celebrity who believes in jesus and professes that and also has a different political point of view than the group think there. here's a portion, one of the pieces of sound you may have seen, you may not, about kanye west talking about what it was like to come out as a trump supporter. listen. >> i never actually told people that i liked trump when he was running because i was bullied by hollywood because i stayed in hollywood, and people are, like, think about your kids. and i'm trying to hold on to the marriage, so i'm just biting my tongue. like, there's so many fathers and mothers that go to work every day, and they're in a situation where they're biting their tongue because they think it'll be better for their children. >> yes, that's right. >> so even me in my position, i was biting my tongue on my political opinion because i thought it would be better for my children. and now you look up and my kids are going to a school that teaches black kids a complicated

kwanzaa. kwanzaa doesn't, you know, so they don't teach even christmas itself. will: you know, my biggest takeaway is just fascinating. i don't know what to make of him from start to finish needing the whole entirety of the picture, it was laid out over two nights wonderfully by tucker carlson. it was fascinating. i'm watching something real, unvarnished, raw. whatever khan a yea is communicating, expressing and sharing, i just, i'm interested in hearing more: rachel: i think he's deep. i mean, i just look at that clip we just played right there, i i mean, so much packed into it. it sounds like -- we're not used to people speaking in this sort of stream of thought way, right? but there's so much layering there. he's talking about, you know, himself as a father. he's clearly frustrated throughout this interview that, you know, not just hollywood and the culture, but even this kardashian enterprise, you know, is controlling, is controlling

his ability to be the father he wants to be in that a family. he's talking about the kids' school, you know, very relatable. a lot of us can relate to the fact that, you know, kwanzaa or gay pride or whatever is going on in our school but, gosh, don't say jesus, don't say christmas, you know? so he's talking about that and at the same time really relating to how everyday people, moms and dads who maybe might speak up at a school board meeting, might want to say what they really think when liberals say what they think, they bite their tongs because -- tongues. ultimately, the decisions being made in this notorious culture that we live in are people trying to survive. pete: for sure. he speaks for a lot of people that way. our jobs are really easy. we give our opinion for a living on tv, so people expect to hear it from us. i don't get blowback, and if i do, it's because that's my job, to get blowback. rachel: yeah. pete: but i in everyday life the

ability to bring up a political position or bring up your faith, you're not actually free if you can't take your private thoughts and profess them openly. that's effectively what he's saying. inside hollywood i would was told i couldn't. so he's come out. hopefully, that empowers other people to have the courage to do the same thing. you said it, courage begets courage. it takes courage to do what kanye west did with tucker carlson and through his music. will: and there's nothing more dehumanizing than to not be able to have an opinion. i do think it's a plantation mentally. oddly, so many of them white liberals who are overseers of this plantation that no black man can be allowed to have independent thoughts. it doesn't matter if i agree or disagree with kanye. that is beside the point. he is uniquely -- although maybe not as uniquely as we think, because a lot of black americans share the views he's talking about here. but he is bravely sharing thoughts that others say he is not allowed to have.

rachel: people talk about how polarized we are as a country. the polarization will continue as the censorship continues because what will end up happening is if i'm not free to say what i think -- will: yeah. rachel: -- in my job, at the coffee shop, at the grocery store, at the school board meeting, i'm going to go where i can say what i think, where people aren't going to stigmatize me, call me a racist because of how i think. so if you want, liberals out there, if you want to be a more, you know, a less polarized country, then we have to get rid of this censorship culture. will: right right. a. rachel: which is pulling us into different camps because we're afraid of fed or -- offending or afraid of whatever that punishment is. pete: i talked yesterday how inspired i was when kanye west started talking about being a christian, if kanye west can move in that direction, there's hope. and they've got to squash that hope. rachel: oh, they're out for

blood with him. they need to get rid of him. will: the other side of that conversation the last two nights was, of course, fox news' tucker carlson. tucker hopped on the will cain podcast. we talked about how he spends his day, how he preps for the tucker carlson tonight show, what has driven his political -- it was a chance for me and, by tension you, i hope, as someone with opinions and where those come from. rachel: fascinating. pete: what a day in the life of tucker carlson might look like? will: yeah. coffee, hunting, writing, reading, sauna, coffee, show. a grand jury indictments two suspects in the deadly shooting of a father visiting his son at college, they're accused of taking part in the random shooting that killed the father. the detailed charges will be disclosed next week. meanwhile, the victim's family has released his obituary, and his fine -- funeral is slated for monday. terrible. three people are killed in a massive explosion that destroy part of a bridge connecting cry crimea to the russian mainland. the cause of the blast still unclear. so far ukraine has not claimed responsibility, but officials in kyiv have repeatedly threatened to strike the bridge, so you take a guess. this is seen as a major blow to russia because it disrupts one of moscow's key supply routes. and here at home the san francisco fleet week kicking off yesterday with a parade of warships. and today's festivities include an air show between the -- featuring the blue angels, the

speaking, i would hear from people, hey, mr. feely, people die every day. that's not the point. these people would still be alive if the border was secure and illegal aliens were not in this country. rachel: absolutely. i've spoken to angel moms and dads, people whose children were killed in a drunk driving accident or some other violent attack by an illegal, it and sort of seems to compound the theme, right? it's one thing to have your loved one die, but this should not is have happened. they were breaking the law. tell me based on your experience what you're seeing happening politically and also in law enforcement. is there any -- do you see any end to this? how much more has to happen before our leaders say, okay, really we've got to do something about this? >> you know, really i.c.e. and cbp, the two main agencies that do immigration enforcement in the united states, they really have just become nothing more than reporting agencies, you know? they tell us how many people are here, they tell us how many

♪ ♪ pete: we're just 30 days away from the midterms, and issues like rising crime and inflation are at the top of voters' minds. that's why democrats are looking to rebrand with a new rallying cry, fund the police. but is it too little, too late for that? here now, two great guests, lee carter and manhattan institute fellow heather macdonald. if you want to talk polls and

[laughter] heather, we herald the cries to defund the police, now as the elections are coming, they're moving in the other direction. will that work, in your mind? >> of course not. this is the joe biden democratic party crime wave. it began after the george floyd race riots, and it continued thanks to biden's constant rhetoric about the police being a racist that led the cops to back off of proactive policing, and it led to prosecutors saying we're not going to prosecute crime because it has a disparate impact on blacks. when you stop prosecuting crime, guess what? you get another 3400 black victims in 2020 and an even higher number in 2021. this should be a very easy sell for republicans. you just ask democrats, should prosecutors prosecute criminals. should there be consequences for theft? if you're mehmet oz, you ask mrt what larry crasser in's doing in

philadelphia?? -- crasser in is doing in philadelphia? is that your definition of working or should we go back to policing and enforcing the law if? pete: but, lee, millions will be spent in ads to try to turn that tide and say, no, no, no, that was -- that's maybe where we were before, but not anymore. will it work on the polling side? >> i don't think so. i think, generally speaking, when one party co-opts the other party's message, it isn't resonant because people dismiss it. democrats did say defund the police, they did say let's shift funds to other participants, and that is in large part why we have so many people concerned about safety. 60% of americans say that one of the number one things i'm going to vote on is whether or not it makes them feel -- whether or not in the candidate makes them feel more safe. crime is one of the top issues right behind inflation and also women's rights. and so i think democrats are learning pretty quickly they're going to need to address this, but it's not enough just to say they want to fund the police because they said just the

opposite just a couple years ago. they're going to have to do it differently, and i don't think they have time to make up that ground. >> we shouldn't get too hung-up on the actual defund language because les a lot of democrats who did not say defund, but they have said the police are racist, and that's what's killing us today, phony narrative that biden has prosecuted constantly, he ran on it, that is criminal justice system is racist. he said it again this thursday with his marijuana pardon saying that marijuana prosecutions and arrests have been racist. they are not. and we have to get back to treating the police with the respect that they deserve. pete: they certainly haven't, those democrat, you know, mayors or governors or senate candidates haven't called out big city prosecutors and others who refuse to do it. >> no. pete: in that sense, you're at least complicit. are there particular races, lee, that you're seeing on the senate or house side where issue is a big one? >> i think pennsylvania's one where it's going to be a really, really big issue. but i don't think there's a state where it's not because

regardless of whether or not your an urban or suburban dweller, crime is on the rise, and people really are thinking about whether or not they feel physically safe, financially safe, emotionally safe. these are all issues across the board. crime is a really big issue, and i think it's going to play a huge role -- pete: lee, real quick, between nevada, pennsylvania, ohio, a lot of tight races that will determine the balance of the senate. is there a race that has some last minute turns that has changed your perception of that race? >> well, i'm really fascinated by pennsylvania because we've seen this sort of, like, neck and neck, back and forth, but we're seeing that across the board. i think issues that are -- the most important issue is inflation and the economy, there's no question about it. but women are really motivated by women's rights, and that's why you see so many advertisements in all of these statements about abortion. not just about abortion, they're turning it into about whether or not this is then ea quality -- an equality, women's right issue. republicans are positioned a lot

on on the economy, and at the end of the day it's going to be pocketbook ori feel i have equal rights. i look at a lot of these statements and see who is winning on that front, i think the economy at the end of the day -- pete: and, heather, no matter what, this is going to be a defining issue in 2024. >> homicide went up in 2021, it's going up in '22. we have to get cities, civilization back under control. the mass looting is completely unacceptable. there should be no more second chances. from now on, we give the benefit of the doubt to the law-abiding, those who believe in our country, not to the criminal, not to the insane. politicians have to put the needs of society first and stop pandering to the idea that criminals are victims. they are not. here's the victims, the victims of crime. those are the ones we should care about. pete: the factt that's a prominent statement, the victims are the victims, is a testament
