weaponnize it against a republican, they're going to do that. i'd like to draw attention to the fact that this candidate, jennifer ruth green, this republican, woman of color, who is not only a survivor but a veteran, someone who sacrificed her life and went through something horrific in the service of her country, she could have used that herself. she could have use that had and said she was a victim. she could have made it about herself in this race and it might have actually helped her in some circles. she chose not to because that's not what she wanted this race to be about. she wanted it to be about her district and the policies and they go ahead and out her because they want to sabotage her. let's keep in mind if a republican opponent would this done that, a white republican male done that to a democratic woman of color, it would be on every net we recollect slamming that other candidate and opponent. because she's a republican, all bets are off, everything is on the table, and they will use it to attack her.

it is absolutely disgusting. where are the feminists? >> carly: yeah, there's also this out of california, tomi, where you used to live and gas prices are on the rise again in the state. they're now $6.33 a gallon. officials in california, which is the most highly regulated state when it comes to oil and gas, are placing blame on the oil industry saying they owe resident answers. what do you think about that? >> yeah, looks like they're taking a page out of our president's books blaming the refineries, blaming gas stations, blaming everybody but themselves. looking at california, there's high regulation and red tape and an environment that doesn't foster invasion and doesn't foster supply, you also have the second highest gas tax in the nation. people in california are paying about $0.54 extra cents because of the gas tax and we have to blame the voters in california

2:23 am
all these children are going to school, that's $200 million a year over five years and a $1 billion a year. out going is simple. we did not creation this situation and people of staten island did not create this. this is a federal issue and warrants a federal solution. i believe strongly that someone that served in congress and saw that a country without a border is not a country. it's a figment of somebody's imagination. this requires all hands on deck meeting in washington dc with the president, governors of the border states and cities affected saying once and for all, implement a federal solution so people across the country don't have to deal with this on an out going basis. as mentioned earlier, people have come out and provided food and shelter and clothing and we'll do that. for the long term, this is not a solution and it's a continuation of a problem that's been going
2:24 am
on for years and now it's finding itself roots all across the country and unfortunately its finding its roots here in the people of staten island. >> todd: we're looking at -- we're looking at live pictures here with the first bus in port authority and some migrants are getting off that bus and, gene, are the ones you're seeing the ones that were bussed up from texas and how do you feel about that policy right now? >> well, you know, these people, they came over the boarder and they're in texas and arizona and new mexico, you know, without a home looking for a better life. don't speak the language, and as far as what, you know, the governors are doing in texas or those other states, i don't disagree with that. i mean don't forget they've got small towns themselves probably facing worse situations than we are here. you know, we're accepting
2:25 am
hundreds of migrants. they're accepting thousands of migrants. they have to go some place. because we are a sanctuary city, they're choosing to send them here. if, you know, but simply in a nutshell, travis can't sustain the numbers of migrants coming here, and this area of travis just is too small. we have nothing to offer these people. they're walking around yesterday i saw them walking around aimlessly. it was a beautiful day. i don't know, you know, what's going to happen when the weather turns nasty and, you know, these are long-term commitments. six to nine months. >> carly: we hear you and it's very interesting how an open border 2,000 miles away in del rio, texas, is impacting your

and russia suffered massive tactical losses in ukraine recently, which is why putin conducted a strike and many losses not being reported publicly and ukraine is killing soldiers 10-1 on battlefield and making massive advances striking at the heart of the land bridges and taking back regions with lightning speed and now talk of taking back crimea next and during my last trip there, there was renewed energy among senior officials they could go all the way to crimea and the events of the past few weeks have allowed ukraine to seize the momentum for the first time since the conflict began and that's all humiliating for putin on the world stage. he spent his whole career of demanding strength and power and ruled with an iron fist and said he wants to win the war at any cost and will stop at nothing to protect his legacy and what he associated with that win, only he knows but when his legacy is challenged and he looks weak on

weapons for ukraine. no sides seems to be interested in diplomacy. they mention it in the speeches but they've been trying to have talks with crimea since that war began years ago and there's been nothing that's come out of it. things are different on the ground now in ukraine. the last time i was there a couple weeks ago, the actions were more intense and ukrainian civilians are figuring out how to live with the reality of war and go on with their day. i was in one region that would get hit every single night with missiles and it rocks the buildings and russia is right there. it's one of those four areas that they're talking about annexing and putin is calling now part of russian territory and the missiles are so close that the sirens don't even have -- you don't have time really to hear the sirens go off. they go off after the missiles. things are different on the ground. >> carly: how would president biden deescalate this situation? is there an off ramp here for vladamir putin? >> i don't know. i don't see it yet because it
2:34 am
doesn't look like he's winning. that's the reality of it. winter is coming and they're prepping for that. it's going to be very difficult on the ground with that terrain. i think there'll be a pause for a bit when it comes to that from both sides and difficult to maneuver on the battlefield and biden administration needs to set the stages for real talks and right now we'll send more weapons and high bars and tactically that's great but strategically, it just continues to build and build internationally and i think it's setting the stage for a larger conflict. >> carly: certainly is. brett velicovich, thank you for joining us this morning. we appreciate your insight. >> todd: thanks, brett. >> carly: back here at home, major u.s. stock indexes nose diving across the board yesterday. >> todd: yeah, we see charts like this a lot these days. economists and executives say the biden administration put us on the fast track to recession. we have cheryl kansas city kansh

psaki is onto something if it's not being covered in the media and a lot of people focusing on crime, on the economy, the hunter biden story. secondary in the minds of many, but that's the midterm election. what about the general election in 2024 if republicans regain control of the house and james comer can do the investigations he wants and could this hunter biden situation impact whether or not president biden runs again or the outcome of the election in the future? >> i think it very much impacts whether he runs again, carly, no question. remember, if the gop has the house and if it takes the senate and look at real clear politics forecast, they even say now that's a likely scenario that republicans do win the senate and obviously the house. they only have to flip five seats. remember, donald trump lost 43 seats in 2018, barack obama lost 63 seats in 2010. it's a thing that happens to the party in power.
2:48 am
usually they lose many, many seats and republicans only have to take back five. when that happens, carly, i think from there joe bide inis a runnerless ship and an 80-year-old runnerless ship at that. once those investigations start happening and once the news cycle you actually will have journalists asking him on a consist basis, hey, this was said, this was said as far as your involvement. i think that will help push joe biden to the side and say in 2023, i'm not running again. i've done my job. he'll probably argue and now it's time for some new blood. then you'll see and this will be good for "fox & friends" first and for the entire journalism community in general. if ratings are a thing, you'll have 28 democrats jumping in to try and capture the democratic nomination and the reason why i came up with that number is that's how many ran in 2020 and then it became ana anarchy as fs people trying to win that particular nomination on the republican side many are running as well. we'll have a lot to talk about i
