not alone. at least 50 officers shot and killed in the line of duty so far this year. ashley strohmier has more on it, ashley. >> please have the suspect in custody with a shooting in north carolina yesterday. five people lost their lives including an off-duty police officer. a k-9 officer was hurt but luckily he was released from the hospital. authority said another victim is still fighting for their life. >> the police officer is a brother or a sister so when you lose one of our own comic things are tragic, heartbreaking day for all of us. >> the mayor of raleigh said a man started shooting on greenway, which is a walking trail around 5:00 p.m. and shortly after, officers blocked off streets and surrounded the entire neighborhood in an hour long manhood telling them to shelter. they took him into custody 10:00 p.m. but gave no other details on his age.

of the last few years. it is outrageous. it is about inflation. it is about the cost of living and it is about the crime rate. and we are at a 25 year conundrum interstate because of the democrats passing. >> todd: it is a latino district as well but what are the voters telling you about why they are potentially voting republican this year as opposed to previous years when the expectation and the assumption was they would vote democrat? >> you know, that is the problem. there was this assumption. when i go to the door and talking to folks are out in the neighborhoods are going to festivals or reading or things of that nature, it is the same for everybody, latino, hispanics, non-hispanics. the concern is the cost of living and struggling to make intimate. mortgages are going up and they are worried about 401(k)s and they are bored quite frankly if they have a job the next couple of months. those are their biggest

concerns. and again they don't feel safe in their neighborhoods anymore. we've had some of the highest crime rate, 25 high year crime rate. the democrats have been in charge coddling criminals treating them better than victims. >> carley: president biden was on the campaign trail as well and if republicans take back house and senate, inflation will go up. what is your response to that? i would say "no." that is hysterical. absolutely not. look what has happen in less than two years underneath him. because he won't unleash energy production, which by the way, this district sits on top of one of the fifth and the nation and my opponent passed a bill to kill the industry and kill thousands of job in this district. so no, i would say the only way we will get inflation down is we can reign in this outrageous over-the-top spending. >> todd: this is a new

detective in the police officer brian foley. brian this is the worst-case scenario and especially hits close to home for you. what do you know about the situation that we might not? >> they are sorting out so many details and i understand there is incredible thirst to know what happened. these teams don't make things will take time to hash out. as far as the origin or the intent of the 911 call and while there remains who made it and why, that still hasn't been confirmed as of yet. that was of late last night. what i can say what is absolutely true is this was an ambush in the purest of sentences with the suspect lying in wait heavily armed, multiple guns an end when the police officers arrived on scene to respond to the 911 call, they were dusted down immediately

with, you know, they were outgunned as well. not just out gunned but the shooter, the suspect, the shooter was shot. keep in mind two of the three officers are on the emergency response team or s.w.a.t. team as this call. one has been able to get an incredible shot to wound the shooter. a horrible scene and obviously the cops can't walk around in full armor with high-powered rifles like on a military patrol. they can't do that. but they were outgunned. >> carley: brian are you saying you don't know if the 911 call was fake but a attack? >> i'm not saying the call was fake but as of last night i checked with the highest source possible. they were not ready to actually confirm that at that point. but this was -- this was an

attack on the police officers specifically waiting for the police officers once they responded. whether or not that happened after the 911 was already made or prior to, who knows. this is definitely a premeditated ambush and a person who had a lot of firearms and was waiting for the cops spirit had the firearm staged in different locations. >> carley: the officers killed, the injured officer alec, officer dustin had to cope on the way and you think about s wife, they should be the happiest time in her life and now she has to bury her husband. how do you process that? >> you know, it is difficult for cops to process that when you leave the house in the morning or you leave the house in the middle of the night to go to work that you might not come home and you might not see your family. when you put on your badge, put on your gun, you put on a bullet proof vest. not too many professionals do that. you do that because you know the

risks involved. look, there is still a staple of cops in connecticut that are doing that right now. and doing it to the best of their abilities and you turn on the news and you see what is happening in bristol, connecticut. you have to go out into the exact same thing. it is painful, it is difficult, but you know the officers, they approached officers to get them healed through this process is so much better than it was two decades ago. >> carley: brian, i'm reminded of the wife of a police officer who once said that the best sound she has ever heard is the sound of velcro ripping off in the middle of the night because she knows that sound of body armor coming off and her husband is safe. they were so many that will not hear that sound to me more. 12 police officer shot so far this week alone. 50 officer shot and killed in the line of duty so far this year. this job does have its own

risks, obviously, but when you hear about the police officers getting lured to a scene and purposefully gunned down, that is another animal entirely. what do you attribute that to? >> so 4 of 12 are in connecticut and another one for new haven not far from bristol at all. look, i think it is a pendulum. if you look after 9/11 when that happened and there was after that tragic situation, there was a lot of support for police officers and first responders. in my estimation, an all-time high. you go up to a year a whole dog ago, it was at an all-time low and some would argue that it is. but the people recruiting, the staffing for the police across connecticut are down. at an all-time low. and not just applying for a job, morale is down for these officers. no one will tell you that it's not pure they need to feel supported. i believe it is a pendulum. i do believe it will come back

truth. she acts like an outlier, like a radical, but she is just a rubber stamp for the establishment voting for more work, financing us to the brink of what biden called nuclear armageddon. aoc got into congress, the hot topic and got the cool brands for lapel. i'm a rebel, progressive and i look out for the little guy. what did you do for the little guy? she killed amazon jobs in her district and turned a blind eye to the crime. and i love that heckler. we need him at the yankees game today so maybe we can rattle the other team. >> todd: makeup game from yesterday, but the bigger issue on this, being rude, she is complaining about being rude. wasn't it aoc that said, "you need to protest to make people uncomfortable." i find the irony there. >> carley: i can't get over her crying at the southern border and she told eric adams to move the migrant encampment out of her district. and we talk that again?

if she wanted to jeopardize trump's well-being, she should make him drive with her husband. the thing about it is, this is the thing about pelosi and all the democrats who came pivoting to trump every time things go south. we all have a friend at work who complains about the crazy coworker they have so much, you eventually realize your friend was the crazy one. that is the democrats. if you are complaining about trump a year ago, okay, i get it. he just left office. at this point the whole country is out of control. nobody cares about trump. the democrats have lost their car keys. i know that is a big deal to you, but no one else cares that your car keys are gone. they keep rambling on and nobody cares about. we are so done with trump and ranting about trump january 6th. when you watch yesterday, i believe it is because somebody showed them the ratings during a commercial break.
