that could spell trouble for democrats. polling shows a major shift among conservative latino voters and some moderates over the last decade. take a look at a poll by nbc news and the wall street journal. it shows republicans now have a 56-point lead over democrats among the voting group rates compared to 14-point lead back to republicans in 2016 and a 49-point lead for democrats in 2012. so what has happened over the last decade? washington examiner chief political correspondent byron york is with us now. byron good to see you. what has been happening over the last ten years? why have latino voters apparently been making the shift in the democratic party to the republican party? >> first of all a lot of political consultants both democrats and republicans really misunderstood latino voters. they thought of them as single issue voters. the single issue is immigration. it never was true. by the way even on the between

the latino electric. all of the polls now show the top concern for latino voters is inflation. cost-of-living, economic issues. just like it is for everybody else. crime also a big concern again just like it is for everybody else. i think there is a large misunderstanding of the latino electric. and what you just mentioned a conservative latino voters is can interesting. of course there is a conservative to liberal spectrum among latino voters just like everybody else. but in the past latino homeowners call themselves conservatives thought of themselves as conservative also voted for democrats. that has really changed for the just not doing that anymore they are more openly voting for republicans. >> one thank you just brought up is something we heard in the opening make politicians talking

republicans. that doubles more than doubles, 55% as of last month for latino voters for the republicans. do you see a greater move among moderates more moderate on some of the issues? >> absolutely. also think a number of latino voters have felt the democratic party has taken them for granted. if you remember there is a lot of talk after barack obama's victory in 2008 of their being kind of a permanent winning democratic presidential majority there is a book for influential called the emerging democratic majority. the whole theory whilst the democrats conform to the white bones and the african-american voters they have at the latino population is one segment of the population truly growing as a percentage of the population the latino voters would put democrats over the top. they would win a presidential elections from now on. there is a belief latino voters

would somehow stay with democrats. that just is not turned out to be true for the reasons we been talking about. i was the issue sets change between the parties, different issues become more important and now of course inflation. they are moving to the republican party. i think they have shown those political theorists they are not going to be just on one side. >> historically as you know in miami for example, they have been very conservative, very republican because of the fidel castro issue. that is the older generation again the younger generation now is the older ones are phasing out. what is the situation especially when it comes to immigration? we have latino voters it may have immigrated here legally their parents may have emigrated legally the grandparents immigrated here illegally. is this what they're saying on the southern border? is that perhaps drive them to the republican party? >> are really two topics we talk about this this immigration in

the situation on the border. the recent wall street journal poll that found such shifts in latino political thought actually asked voters, listen when you say you are concerned about immigration the situation on the border, which are you more concerned about? on a really large majorities of the situation on the border. that shows there is again diversity of opinion within the latino electorate. a lot of them are concerned with illegal border crossings. they do not want people to be mistreated but they do not want an open border. i think there is a great difference of opinion among latino voters on this. it's actually benefiting republicans right now for standing for more security on the border. >> 's insight from washington, byron always great to see you. >> thank you eric. >> think everything is this sunday. our politics here of the fox

ask high arthel part it is very difficult to establish exactly what is happening and ironic. there is no independent access. but what is apparent this antigovernment protest movement very much still has momentum. but we saw yesterday is this prison where many of those detained in this recent process are being held. this fire breaking out an independent team said the fire started after a riot there. iran state media says the fire is now put out. there were no escapees they said but more than 60 people were injured. you can hear and some of the social media video being released there are gunshots that can be heard. now the antigovernment protest began after the funeral as you save 22-year-old she died in police custody. she had been arrested but i rounds of morality police for not wearing a headscarf. and her family blames the authorities for her death.

beautiful sunday here. temperatures largely in the 70s and 60s across the middle of the country but cooler errors will be funneling up right there in the upper great lakes. otherwise we have seen big shower activity again today across texas back across the desert southwest. there is a system that's the leading edge of the cold air pushing its way in. as of right now it's a little bit warmer. they'd seen some snow in the appear across northern portions of wisconsin. last night and again tonight as there's cold enough to support overnight flurries. currently those temperatures at 41 degrees in marquette. 39 degrees in fargo this is the very leading edge producing warmer air their chest to the south. this is all going to dip its way south to put in the early morning hours will see some really chilly temperatures. boston freeze warning from the ohio river valley stretching all the way back across the plains getting out towards colorado for cold air across a very wide path of the country. not just isolated areas. the timestamp up in the court you can see each morning this is from monday morning the cold air has begun to final end.

it's going to push very deep south in nashville mike tuesday morning 31 degrees. then my wednesday still digging even deeper south into central alabama, central mississippi. spots back to the north of this temperatures in the middle 20s. very cold air possibly record-breaking lows wednesday morning across the south a lot of spots waking up below freezing, 25 degrees for your sink very cold air very cold early morning air. even afternoon highs you talk about those still going to be in the cool side. this is not monday's forecasted highs but warms up during the day were still talk my daytime high in chicago of only 41 degrees. is the same basic area where there's some really cool air that lingers into tuesday. you see it push further daytime high atlanta only 54 degrees. and then it kind of drift slowly off to the east on wednesday, 5. it is a brief little bit don't worry folks is not over. winter is on the way.
