>> harris: here we go. this is "outnumbered." here with emily compagno and kayleigh mcenany, and joining us today, kennedy and rob smith. welcome. we began with a look at america's crime crisis. we look at the dangers of the new york city subway system. a wild fight broke out at manhattan grand central station after one man allegedly refused
9:01 am
to get out of another's way. the two threw punches, then tumbled down a moving escalator. the suspect was charged with assault. another chilling scene. a man viciously pushed onto subway tracks over the weekend in the bronx. good samaritans thankfully rescued him with second to spare. the suspect is still on the streets in that one. this one yesterday, the suspect has a special place in hell. a 48-year-old man died after he was shoved in front of an oncoming train during rush hour in queens which means you don't have a lot of time to save somebody. the tragedy happened when the victim accidentally bumped into another rider, triggering a fight between the two, according to police. and look at the numbers. transit crime in new york city, up by 41%, compared with last year. new york city mayor eric adams insists it is not what it seems.
9:02 am
well, what is it? >> dealing with actual crimes, those eight homicide, and dealing with the perception of fear that people are feeling. that's the combination. i'm going to deal with that perception and actual crime. we can't get away from the fact we have 3.5 million people using the subway system. we have to be honest about that and those average of six crimes a day is not giving the impression that our system is out of control. >> harris: wow. have you ever been bitten by a perception of crime? >> i have not. here's the thing with eric add after a.m.s. >> he is a former republican. now a democrat. that's who he is now. >> yeah, he will say lots of things. there was a perception when he was running this was somebody that would support police, have real talk about what's going on in the city. so now while he has done things, there are more police officers on the streets, i am in new york for a little bit, i was in
9:03 am
florida full time during the pandemic and all of that stuff, but i want him to tell that lady that got attacked in that horrific video we saw, tell her that what happened to her is perception. i think we have to talk serious about this. and i'll say one last thing. i am a big 190 pound black man so i have to watch my back in new york city in a way i never had to before this stuff. if i have to watch my back like this, i wonder how other people are sort of experiencing the city. >> harris: you mean everybody else may not be ready to play. >> everybody else isn't as physically imposing. >> so true, though. even if you have been, you know what this mayor says? this is all about guns. kennedy, the majority of crimes, even eight killings sadly, two of them with guns, the rest of them with hands, shove, maybe there was a bump that shoved
9:04 am
somebody, i don't think so. this is hand on hand combat. >> also, the perception is very bad for the rest of the city because if there's a perception that new york is unsafe, people aren't going to come on vacation here. normally people flock to the city for the holidays and for new year's eve to see the window dis displays. if you hear people are shoved in front of the subway, you can't afford to outbounder everywhere, why would you spend your precious vacation money here. the perception is something that's driving people out of new york. they have friend that moved to florida, just like rob. they're like what is it like there, it is great. we're at the beach 12 months out of the year, schools have remained open, businesses are thriving. there are for rent signs on street fronts, people are scared to take the subway. and now when i ride the subway, i always stand in the middle so i am not close to the edge of the platform because i don't
9:05 am
want something like this to happen, there are wild eyed people everywhere, that's how they described two of the recent attackers. now you have to have awareness and pay attention to everything all the time. that's not enjoying life, not good quality of life and not just perception. >> harris: sad where you stand. you're in a hurry to get to your job, everybody wants to get in and out faster so you're not late for work, taking kid to school. that seems like also another really, really unfair advantage for the criminals. they can pull you right off that platform. emily, i mentioned other things people are using, hammers, the number of stabbings is up exponentially inside the subway. what is the disconnect. rob mentioned the politics of this, but who is mayor adams now, he is not who he said, he is not as advertised. >> i don't see him as a new yorker any more. a new yorker is committed to safety. a new yorker is committed to enjoying the city to its fullest
9:06 am
and embracing diversity and also keeping ourselves safe and knowing that we can ride the subway, that we can enjoy times square and performances without maybe getting stabbed in the back. where you stand on the platform, there have been plenty of attacks from behind. we saw up tick of sexual assaults and rapes, horrifying videos of women, one repeat offender was running after them. you have to have eyes in the back of your head. what i don't understand is for a mayor who was savvy during campaigning, by savvy, i mean having common sense, why, what does he have to gain by downplaying the crime rate? if anything, if he said we are committed to law and order in this town, we are committed to seeking out attackers still at large, we are committed to protecting the asian american population, black population, the subway riders, et cetera, this would do a long way toward reassuring those of us that live here, those of us that commute here, those of us that travel
9:07 am
here, that it is going to be safe. denying the problem does technology for making us feel like we are in good hands. by the way, that father of three that was stabbed to death on a subway form in the neck, the reason he was stabbed is because that attacker, a resid vis and still at large was harassing a female police officer and he stepped in. there's nothing to show for being a good citizen here or for in any way protecting yourself. you're damned no matter what. >> kayleigh, quickly, what about the politics at play. what emily is saying, what is the benefit of telling people a lie that crime isn't as bad as it is, he certainly won't get called on to help other democrats. maybe he is looking to have free time, doesn't want to be popular. >> you're exactly right. the images i have been watching on the screen, these are real time, the most powerful gop ads, but not funded by the gop, they're brought to you by the criminals of new york city. >> harris: and taxpayers.
9:08 am
>> and derelict governor and mayor who are doing nothing about this. this is playing out across the country. you see lee zell did i know closed the gap, but the republican gubernatorial nominee is coming close. and you see it at play. pennsylvania, i was stunned. i read this as we were coming to air, a political reporter asked john fetterman, democrat nominee in pennsylvania why does someone who committed first degree murder deserve clemency. here's his answer. it is a very simple choice. i believe the perfect metaphor is shaw shank redemption, everyone has seen and understands. would you want morgan freeman to die in prison or not, never met anyone that said yeah, you should die in prison. that's a fictional film. the gop put it out with five murderers that fetterman voted to let out of prison. a murder murdered with scissors, a man murdered with garden sheers, 26 times stabbed,
9:09 am
another bragged he was the son of the devil and shot and stabbed someone, another man who beat someone to death with a baseball bat, these are not morgan freeman, shawshank redemptions. these are people with real victims. john fetterman and others across the country are a metaphor for why. >> may explain why the rest of us are seen as potential and real victims, they think we're acting in a movie and ignore us. is the democrats' decision to go all in on abortion rights this election cycle correct for them to win? new polling suggest that new bet may be back firing quickly and could be costing them a critical voting block.

>> stacey abrams facing off against brian kemp first time since 2018. last night's georgia gubernatorial debate, one of the issues abrams focused on in attacks, abortion. many democrats have gone all in on that topic this election cycle. but looks like the strategy could be back firing and they may be losing women voters who say the economy, inflation are the top concerns. look at the latest "new york times" sienna college survey. it shows female independents favoring the gop by 18 points. that's a sizable shift since september when democrats enjoyed a 14 point advantage with these voters. it is really interesting because, emily, on the bothering issue, democrats, this was their last ditch play, their hail mary. where the gop is making
9:15 am
calculations is they say the third trimester abortion argument is where we're going to play ball, where you have john fetterman, another example of his saying do you support any restrictions, i don't. stacey abrams, i don't support restrictions. keisha lance bottoms who vices joe biden today on the air waves, said i never heard biden give a time frame on that. 70, 80% want restrictions in that time frame. republicans are trying to turn it into advantage. >> and the republicans calling the democrats' bluff. part of the disconnect, the reflex of the 18 point swing is because democrats were focusing on abortion as well as, i can't even read my own notes, despite the democrats trying to make abortion the focus of the election and the independent women voters that prior to this favored the democrats. so this is the republicans digging in, saying here's our answer to you trying to hang
9:16 am
your hat on this sole issue. as well, we continue to talk about the disconnect between this administration, between the democrat party and what is reflected not only in polls but in conversations. that's one of economic security, inflation, putting food on the table, autonomy of parents over their kids education as well as border security. i thought one of the most brilliant lines from last night's debates, you can be committed to border security and not be a racist. yet that kind of bilateral focus by the democrats is exactly what's going to nip them in the butt in november. >> you have wise democrats, senator sanders, james carville came out and said if we're making abortion our closing argument, this is not good. senator sanders said as we enter the final weeks, i am alarmed the advice many democrat candidates are getting from establishment consultants to focus only on abortion. senator sanders was right on things in '16, he might be right now.
9:17 am
>> they made him politically impotent, i doubt they're listening to him. generous to call them lies, i call them captain obvious. we are where we are with this topic. this is not june. democrats are picking up big time intensity. you could see it in polling this was tracking for them after the overturn of roe v wade. but this isn't june and this isn't your grandfather's gas prices any more. and we're not living in a place we're not tapping oil reserves every few months. don't have friends around the world to help us with energy costs. we are in trouble and facing recession. whether the president over his ice cream thinks it is good as you know what or not, we have a lot of reality coming our way. and yes, democrats can look back and say we did this. my question is you've been by camera the majority in the white house, couple times in the last three decades.
9:18 am
why didn't you codify abortion then. now that's the new thing, they want to promise to codify. i don't think they'll get the majority of women in their own party. if they had it, they would have done it 30 years ago. >> that's right. maybe i am being too kind calling them wise, kennedy. but it is interesting you have these democrats giving an honest dose of opinion, you have obama yesterday calling democrats a buzz kill. as if they see the writing on the wall and republicans are ahead by three points in the "new york times," sienna poll, they're all covering the loss that seems to be on the -- >> this is crunch time, to harris' point, democrats did absolutely have momentum. a month ago, republicans assumed there would be a red wave, then all of a sudden they galvanized behind a single issue. the problem with the abortion issue is first of all, people are having more knew andsed conversations to emily's point than they have on this issue than i can remember in my lifetime. people are making different
9:19 am
stands about timing and the third trimester and you're absolutely right about that, they realize it is not an abortion in the third trimester, the way it is when you had a little too much to drink and didn't use protection, a couple days later you realize you might be in trouble. those are vastly different things to a lot of people. that's the kind of conversation we're having. bernie sanders, the reason people don't care about abortion is because they're worried about inflation, coming recession, looming unemployment, which the fed will force with rising interest rates, and it is because of his mentality, because of deficit spending and socialistic policies, spending more than we have. it is bernie sanders' fault and people trying to pacify progressives. that's the issue. independents, republicans, democrats, women, men, they're worried about their bottom line and know winter is coming. >> you parked that vehicle in a

9:21 am
want to go all in on social issues, go all in on abortion, go all in on things that don't effect the lives of americans. i think that's why they're polling so poorly with people. i've become more bullish on the idea that republicans are going to take the house, i believe they'll take the senate as well because democrats are just not connecting with people's actual real lives. gas prices are higher. in real lives, groceries are more expensive. they see that. people don't care about social issues in the way democrats want them to when everything is more expensive. >> so true. meanwhile, the gop in 2020 made gains with black and latino voters but lost suburban women. to see them coming home, it could be an extraordinary night in 20 days. coming up, the chinese president is promising to build up his

to make our military better, smaller, less expensive, more attractive if we do, in fact, need recruits. these are people that dedicated their lives to service, served in combat, probably have a better handle on refining department of defense from anti-interventionist point of view. those people are interesting to me. the other people are the capitalists. what you are not hearing from china is proeconomic message and economic growth because economic growth means individual prosperity. you can't have individuals prospering when you have a state run economy. china also has zero covid policy. they're cracking down on civil liberties, boosting their military. the economy, theirs is cratering. if we have the opposite from those two prongs, that's where american success and ultimately economic and global success will come from. >> harris, talk to any small business owner which you do frequently, they will tell you importing something from china

is so much cheaper than having it made in america because of the bloated policies that the democrats and this administration keep putting forward, including overregulation. to kennedy's point, it is making it harder every step of the way for us to succeed and prosper while the chinese get to move ahead. >> so we are calling for cultural shifts here. i think one that has to happen is made in america. yes, it can be a bit more expensive, those goods. i talk to small business owners about this during the pandemic specifically when we had critical supply chain issues, if you need baby formula, we should be making it and we don't talk about that crisis enough. back to the main lane here. with recruitment, it also hurts our police departments because 19.5% of the police department are former military. with recruitment, it is hurt by the fact you saw an article out today about the heightened number of military members and veterans who are killing themselves.
9:33 am
suicide is rising. with recruitment, the smaller the military gets, it can be highly technological and do that, what it will become is outnumbered. if china decides they want a bigger military, they pretty much almost have one now, but want to modernize it, where do they get the intellectual property to modernize the military, they get it from us. we need to be big, bold, technologically gifted. don't think they're not watching what russia is doing and some of the drones are chinese too. they're getting the drones as well. china would love to do that to taiwan, it is a distant thing they can do. they don't want to engage with us. they don't. economically they don't want that. they're watching and seeing we don't do anything when you hit countries with drones. >> that's right. and right now they're winning, that's the hardest problem of all. coming up, more holes being poked into president biden's denials about his son's suspect business dealings.
