biggest mid-term election issue is chaos. full coverage on fox. >> dana: rich edson is diving into some key races we're watching and playing close attention to the next 19 days. >> conservative supreme court eliminating the right to abortion and proposals from republicans in congress to enact abortion restriction democrats focused their campaigns on protecting abortion. voters are more concerned about inflation and gas prices than abortion. some democrats are making the case the issues are all tied together. >> abortion is an economic issue. it has been reduced to this idea of a culture war. for women in georgia this is very much a question of whether they will end up in poverty in the next five years. >> having children is why you are worried about your price for gas and why you are concerned how much food costs. >> democrats are calling

republican abortion extremists. republicans painting democrats on the extremists as well. in pennsylvania democrat john fetterman says he is against any restrictions on abortion and the choice is between the doctor and the woman. warnock says he is forced on defeating abortion bans. the space for the woman on her doctor are too cramped for the government. kel in ohio tim rian is running for senate. bret baier asked him if he supports limits on abortion and said he would leave it up to the woman. biden said the first bill he would send to the new congress is protecting the right to abortion. need more democrats in congress to pass it. >> dana: joining us for more on this is josh, axios senior political correspondent and fox news contributor. what's going on that the democrats must see something either in the focus groups or

they're worried they can't get -- turn out the vote to make sure democrats will go? talking about abortion all week. the fox news poll and others, all the polls inflation, higher prices and crime. those are the big two issues. so what is going on here? >> every poll is showing inflation and crime are the top two issues. those are two issues where republicans have double digit advantages. abortion gave democrats something of a sugar high when roe was overturned over the summer. "the new york times" poll that came out last week only 5% of voters said it is the number one issue. democrats are running the risk of only talking about abortion. they have an advantage in some states on their position on abortion rights, but when you hear democrats not talking about inflation, not addressing the crime surge in many communities, that comes across as politically tone deaf and

republicans, independents and democrats alike think the economy is the top issue. it's the candidates that are only focused on abortion that are running a risk politically. >> bill: dana and i were talking off camera and they think must be seeing something. maybe what they're seeing is a way to stop -- to put the tourniquet on some of the expected losses and maybe that's the strategy. ask you about the dan henninger piece. chaos is bad for the party in power. inflation is a form of social chaos as are the unchecked border and violent crime. they didn't fall from the sky. it was a policy decision by mr. biden and the latter to elected democrats across the country. that goes to progressive d.a.s, does it, josh? >> yeah. crime is such an important issue in many states. it is not just the swing states, bill, it is the oregon

governor's race, crime and homelessness the issue leading the republicans to think they could win in oregon. new york governor hochul is in real trouble because of rampant crime across the state especially in new york city. so frankly the senate majority could be decided on the issue of crime itself. john fetterman in pennsylvania, mandela barnes in wisconsin. two democrats that have taken very progressive positions on criminal justice reform and republicans are hammering them on that issue on the television ads right now. that could be the majority making issue in the senate. the fact that democrats nominated some candidates that are too far to the left that align with some of these progressive prosecutors. >> dana: let's zero in on a new york race. this is interesting. kevin mccarthy wants to be speaker of the house on the republican side they are going after sean patrick maloney. the head of the democrats' congressional committee in a

redistricted situation but he is a popular democrat. raised a ton of money and yet this race is very close. he is running against a guy named lawlor. more focus is happening there. i would love your take on this. inflation, yes, of course, but crime is a huge issue in that district. >> this is a district that joe biden won by 10 points. a pretty solidly democratic seat. and yet it's competitive because of the issue of crime. in fact, when maloney ran for attorney general in 2018, he came out for that controversial bail reform law that has become unpopular in the state of new york. it's an ad. if you look at the republican ads there is footage of maloney coming out to revamp the bail laws all over the airwaves even in new york city. republicans are coming after the democratic party's king. they think they have a chance the take out the party leader and that means they aren't just

saying it but putting millions and millions of dollars in new york city in hopes of capitalizing on a big republican wave. >> bill: you mentioned crime. put this up here. this is new york city, chicago, l.a. big media markets. crime is up. if the republicans take back the senate you'll look back on the democratic nominees to say whether or not they were the best candidates. you might be right in the end if you get a 51 seat majority on behalf of republicans. a pop quiz. you study the stuff 24/7. is there something buried in the data that you see that we aren't paying attention to that you are? >> well, one thing in the data is that the issue of crime transcends partisanship. not just republicans worried about crime. it is democratic voters in the cities that really are concerned about what's going on and they don't like what they

there's a solid climate plan in place, but changes to the great highway required by prop i would cost san francisco taxpayers $80 million to draft a new climate plan and put the entire west side and ocean beach at risk of contamination. protect our beach, ocean and essential infrastructure. reject prop i before it's too late. >> dana: a university student was last seen on campus early friday morning. her cell phone pinged near a new jersey housing complex two days after she disappeared. we have the latest. >> it has been four days since that cell phone activity and now six days since the woman was last seen. her brother tells reporters police searched the housing complex three times but haven't found anything so far. the 20-year-old junior was last

seen friday morning near a campus building at 3:00 a.m. her brother says her phone pinged early sunday morning. shortly after that the phone turned off. it happened a six-minute drive from campus. her brother tells reporters police searched the outside of the property but not the inside. he says he was there for the third and most recent search. the princeton department of public safety is leading the investigation with state and local police. you see here they are using drones, boats, helicopters, everything they have to find this missing woman. but so far, dana, there is a lot more questions than there are answers. the school sent an update to students saying the family requested a well-being check sunday night and the following day the school issued an official missing student alert. you see the woman here, she is 5'4" and 130 pounds. the department of public safety is asking anybody with information to please come forward. princeton university is also taking steps to protect other

students. the school has an increased law enforcement presence on and around campus now as the search continues. send it back to you. >> dana: keep us posted. >> bill: 19 past the hour. voters voicing concern about the state of democracy here in america. new poll from "the new york times" say the blame may lie with the media. many say the mainstream media is a threat to democracy. chris, how are you doing to you? the poll came out the 16th of october. i didn't see it in the recap. i imagine a lot of people missed it. there is the number. how do you interpret that? >> i think it makes a lot of sense. just in the few days since that poll has come out, reporters have said the january 6 attack was worse than 9/11, we need a programmer to try to attack republicans and change people. the republicans are fascists in this country, a fascist movement that more people should be arrested. the intelligence services should be in a wartime footing against the american people.

that's only on one little watched cable network to the left of fox. this is something that has been going on now for years and years and years especially in hyper drive since the election of trump. the media will attack and demonize half the population. not learn lessons. double down on things. especially during the covid crisis when people were really looking for answers, people are wondering to push back whether on school closures, church closures, food problems and scarcity, the media often trumpeted the regime and leaders just lines over and over again. attacked people who criticized things and attacked scientists who doubted and criticized people. anyone who stepped outside the party line was attacked. when you see a media working hand in glove with the regime you wonder are these guys the bad guys? >> bill: very interesting answer. you won't get it by the american people. they are smarter than you are giving them credit. >> very much so.

it's one of the great things about our system. politicians and people in the media can lie about inflation, lie about this or that but if you are dealing with it. if it's going on in your household and seeing rising crime in your cities and increasing threats in your schools you know about it. no one is saying over and over again that it is not happening will convince you. it will undermine trust. the last couple years in particular haven't made things necessarily worse as much as they have made the american people wake up to just how corrupt a lot of these systems are. that hopefully in the end might be a positive. >> bill: let's go back to the poll number. 59% thought it was a major threat. 24% a minor threat. you're at 84%. it's clearly higher than trump or biden or the supreme court or any other answers in that poll. >> a minor threat to democracy is one interesting way to talk about the media. you know, it makes sense. if you've watched for the last

close? >> sure, connecticut folks in the fifth congressional district are tired of the status quo and the false promises from the democrat leadership. my democrat opponent is complicit in this. she supported the democrat leadership in washington follows along 100% voting record with nancy pelosi. at the same time here in the district folks are struggling to pay for groceries, pay for gas. i have retirees who their retirement packages are diminished and declining. economy in connecticut is shrinking. we have the lowest personal income growth in the entire nation. folks are looking for an alternative. we provide that alternative. we have the better message, right? we understand free enterprise, equal opportunities. people want the opportunities to be able to live their lives the way they want to. >> bill: wow. that's a lot. here is your challenger last night when the issue of crime came up. this is how she defended her record. >> we just passed legislation in congress so every department

that is below 125 officers will get additional funding. that's the majority of my district. crime is a problem. but we have to address it from all directions and i've been around long enough to know that over policing is not the only way to address the root causes of crime. >> bill: i don't know if it was a defund the police comment or not or how you interpret that. give you a chance to respond to it. >> i interpreted it absolutely. she went to washington and voted for and supported the anti-police bill. i'm a former state senator and voted against it. our police departments are decimated in connecticut. state troopers over 1200 patrolmen, we're less than 800 troopers, 400 down. we have people targeting police officers right here in connecticut just earlier last week we had a shooting boldness. we need to be tough on crime and focus on crime. my opponent is endorsed by a party called the working

families party of connecticut. their main goal is defund the police and she touted how she was proud of their endorsement and their shared values. what values is she talking about? we need someone to support law enforcement. i'm the only one who done that consistently. this is a time for change. we'll make history here in connecticut and flip the fifth congressional district and make things better for the folks in our district. >> bill: an uphill climb. she won two years ago by 12 points. joe biden won it by 11. how do you make such a significant change in less than two years? >> everything that the democrat leadership in washington has touched has gone wrong, has gone sideways, the economy, whether the community safety. what about the southern border? we have an epidemic here in connecticut. the oip oid epidemic is incredible. fentanyl is a big issue. my opponent brought vice

doubling maybe their bills this year? >> yeah, home heating is up and natural gas, half of new england, for example. it is up four times what it was just a few years ago. those are really significant numbers. this is all because we have an energy shortage. we have a supply problem. it is what explains the very high prices but none of this is surprising. we've known this since last winter. if you and your great followers and viewers remember, last winter the biden administration was saying things like let's hope it is not a bad winter. it wasn't for the most part. last winter was pretty mild. it is not a sincere energy policy. it is not a surprise we're going into winter with this continual shortage of energy. >> dana: i think a lot of people, you think every week or so you fill up your gas tank and you know what those prices are and that's fueling a lot of anxiety and people are upset about it and it is fueling a lot of the inflation that we have seen. but why do we have tighter

supplies when it comes to heating our homes? >> this all comes from the biden administrations war on american fossil fuels. half of the home in new england get heat from natural gas, natural gas permits have been stopped in native land, coasts, federal land. oil and gas leases are the lowest since world war ii. oil and natural gas is imperative to our economy as well. coal is a huge heater for a lot of homes, especially homes with electricity to heat their homes. coal prices are up almost three times what they were a few years ago. so all of this stems from the fact that the biden administration has an ongoing war on american energy and we're experiencing the result. >> dana: ron klain said this morning and what he had to say.

from the attorney general? >> no, we have not. it is pretty simple. the american people are entitled to know this and congress is entitled the know it. i have seen these documents, my staff has gone through them very thoroughly. so i want the justice department, the f.b.i. to know that we know that these documents exist. we want affirmation from them that they are doing something about it. i have not heard answers. i intend to keep the heat on until i get answers because we're just fed up with the political bias within the f.b.i. and the department of justice and are they following through on some of these things? and we just have to keep pursuing it. i intend to keep pursuing it. >> dana: you have a reputation for being someone who is quite cautious and even judicious when it comes to raising alarms about things. so i wonder about how the white house might react to somebody like you saying look, i have

these documents and i would like to have an answer. does it affect your communications or relationship with the white house? >> well, it has not affected it at all. i haven't had any comment from the president on it. i don't expect one. i don't know that they are in any way stepping in in any way. they better not be. they always said the justice department was going to be not have any politics or white house relationship, and so i'm doing this on my own and i don't care what the white house thinks about it. we have to follow the money and facts where it leads us. we've seen these documents and i want answers. >> dana: if the republicans are successful in winning back the majority for the senate will there be hearings that you would conduct? >> we will have hearings if we have to have hearings.

but we do the best investigation we can short of hearings. but if we don't get answers, obviously that's a way to really make things public and put people on the spot. and that's what we'll do if we have to do that. >> dana: speaking of the senate and you are in a race there in iowa. it is perhaps closer than some people might have thought. maybe even you. we'll get your take on it. the poll just came out that has you at 46%. opponent mike franken at 43. cash on hand you have 2 million and he has 3.6 million. was it is surprise that he was creeping up that close? >> what you do is you don't look at polls. iowans expect you to work hard to get reelected and i'm going to work hard to get reelected and at my 99 county meetings the biden agenda always comes up. people are mad about inflation,
