now outgoing prime minister liz truss. the daily star put out a live feed showing truss's picture next to a head of lettuce. will truss outlast the lettuce? the answer is no. they've updated their livestream with a little bit of fun. you never know what you get at the end of the show. harris faulkner is next. here she is. >> harris: we begin with a fox news alert. president biden defending his decision now to tap into the nation's emergency oil supply just 19 days out from an election, which is a glaringly political move. voters know the truth of what we're living through. high gas prices, inflation out of control like a wildfire. aging americans 401k saving being washed away on wall street. the biden economy in a mess and
8:01 am
republican lawmakers say all of it -- all of it puts our national security in danger. i'm harris faulkner and you are in "the faulkner focus". the decision by president biden to release another 15 million barrels of oil from the strategic petroleum reserve puts our nation's emergency supply at its lowest level in four decades. this has been his administration's reflexive move for months now. biden already has released, when you add it up, 165 million barrels. now add on to what he is about to bring us, 15 more and you hit 180 since he took office. in other words, his presidency has been rocking high gas prices for quite some time now. why now focus on it? the president seeming to get a bit defensive when someone asked that question. >> what is your request to republicans who say you are only doing the release to help
8:02 am
democrats in the mid-terms? >> president biden: where have they been the last four months is my response. >> is it politically motivated? >> president biden: no it's not. i've been doing this for how long now? it is not politically motivated at all. i will continue to push what i've been pushing on. making sure there is enough oil that's being pumped by the companies. >> harris: never going to be enough. when we have hurricanes and other disasters and need oil, we won't have enough then, either. we aren't independently making our own energy anymore. he put a stop to that. new hampshire's republican candidate for senate begs to differ. >> absolutely political. it's an election time band-aid, a gimmick that is designed to bring it down so they can say look, the prices are down. and then after the election cycle when they don't win, they will blame it on republicans
8:03 am
after we take office and everything is high. he is wrong. he is wrong for doing this. it hurts america. >> harris: white house correspondent peter doocy with more from the north lawn. peter. >> the arguments on both sides basically boil down to this. critics are now complaining the reserves are half empty. officials here say the reserves are still half full. >> first of all we had republicans saying he needs to do something about gas prices and we did something about gas prices and they're like don't do that. so it is hard for me to take the criticism very seriously. >> president biden is saying the 400 million barrels in the reserves now are more than enough for an emergency drawdown and he is blaming the shortages on both greedy oil companies and russian aggression. >> president biden blaming rising gasoline prices on the war in ukraine. look, most americans know
8:04 am
gasoline prices have gone up 50% before the first shot was fired. gasoline prices are high at the pump today not because of the war in ukraine, but because of joe biden's war on energy. >> energy prices drive inflation higher. the president says his first order of business in a new congress will be an abortion bill. so we asked him to clear things up. >> hoping to clarify top domestic issues. inflation or abortion? >> president biden: all important. unlike you, there is no one thing. it crosses the board. domestic, ask me about foreign policy, too. multiple issues and they are all important. we ought to be able to walk and chew gum at the same time. you know that old expression. >> we know the old expression but i asked him that because all the new polling shows inflation and economy outrank abortion as top issues and in may he said inflation is his
8:05 am
top domestic issue. but now inflation on equal footing with abortion access. >> harris: thank you very much. so if you are a democrat running for senate in a race so tight it hurts, who do you call? well, john fetterman of pennsylvania is resorting to hosting an unpopular president biden now as the polls are tightening where he is. the president is set to hold a fundraiser for fetterman later today. he has lost a lot of momentum in epic proportions and now just two points ahead of republican candidate dr. mehmet oz in a new aarp poll. here is dr. oz on hannity's town hall going after fetterman and radical democrats. >> we believe in america. that's the fundamental difference between me and the far left radical elements of the democratic party. i think, sean, not the general

democratic party but the fringe elements. i didn't realize i would run against a poster child of that movement. when they don't actually believe in our ability to get things done they start the adopt policies that don't make any sense. >> harris: bryan llenas is live in philly now. bryan. >> harris, before the president and john fetterman hold the fundraiser here in philadelphia tonight they will both be in pittsburgh today touting the economic message, the bipartisan infrastructure law. the democrats are trying to sell a positive message on the economy as the senate race here in pennsylvania tightens, a race that could come down to how voters feel about inflation and rising prices. look at the average gas, the average price of gasoline in the commonwealth, $3.94. that's higher than the national average, 43 cents higher than last year. this as the energy information administration estimates folks will spend more this winter to
8:07 am
heat their homes in the northeast. the average household will spend 11% more on electricity and 24% more on natural gas. this has frackings on the minds of voter. fetterman called fracking a stain on pennsylvania. in 2018 he said he didn't support fracking. now his campaign says he does and always has supported it. >> fracking, i don't support fracking at all. i never have. and i've signed the no fossil fuels money pledge. i believe as pennsylvania i support our energy independence and we need to do it in a very strict environmental regulations. >> dr. oz says he would fast track oil and gas financing and development. >> if you truly love the environment, if you really love the environment you should root for natural gas.
8:08 am
that's how we dropped our carbon footprint the last 15 years. >> as for john fetterman's stroke recovery his doctor released a letter yesterday saying he is doing well and not suffering cognitive deficits and say he can work full duty in public office. >> harris: that same doctor donated to fetterman's campaign before he had the stroke. let's just get all the facts out there. bryan llenas, thank you very much. one man playing a huge role in the mid-term elections in governor's races republican virginia governor glenn youngkin. governor youngkin joins me live moments from now. and this fox news alert. the cdc is gearing up today for a full vote on adding the covid vaccine to the list of shots recommended for children. a smaller panel unanimously recommended that yesterday and we reported that here on the
8:09 am
network. this is bigger. this is the full cdc. and in the end, it would be up to the states to make the final decision on whether to give children the shot or not in order to come to school. the states would make it mandatory, not the cdc if they chose. this vote comes after the president last month declared the pandemic was over. dr. marc siegel now, fox news contributor, professor of medicine at nyu langone. how does this change things if the full vote comes and says yes, add this to the list of shots for my child? >> it will happen first of all. they'll vote to do it. how does it change things? the cdc has a list of scheduled vaccines that it presents to the states. the states vote state by state to use the vaccines to mandate them or not. several vaccines that are powerful to prevent spread
8:10 am
including hepatitis, mmr, polio, those vaccines nobody questions whether they work or not. also on that list is flu, harris. the flu vaccine as we said have some effectiveness but quite weak. the number of deaths from flu among children is not nearly of the same order as what it has been for covid. it is much more. so the flu vaccine is weak but also on the list of scheduled vaccines. >> harris: so early on we were told that children didn't get it as often and if they did it wasn't as serious. however, i was reading today that it has been 1,000 every year of children. so compare that, if you can, the risk/reward. we know more about some of the mrna vaccines. some menstruation cycles have been impacted in different ways and they haven't had children yet if they would choose to do that. i want to talk openly about
8:11 am
what we know. >> who is giving these messages? you said before we came on, the public doesn't know who to believe. they distrust politicians who stand up on podiums and tell them a vaccine is safe or that it will do this and it doesn't end up doing what they promised. people are distrustful. a new study came out in the "new england journal of medicine" showed that the mod eastern owe vaccine given to young children is safe on not effect. we're worried about long covid. what happens if your child get covid? problems concentrating or brain fog? it's on the table and what we do in the doctor's office. it is called a risk/benefit analysis. we want the doctor talking the parents and children. that's what has been missing. >> harris: what moderna they are saying it has much more effectiveness in the booster than they thought it ever could. just real quickly, though, with
8:12 am
children. most of what i'm reading are temporary effects. you are saying that the risk/reward of getting the vaccine rides with the doctor. if your state says your child has to have it to go to school, how does that impact your life? >> that's the rub and what everybody is worried about. let's stare it in the face. if cdc makes a recommendation several states will make it mandatory. it is true for flu and other vaccines i mentioned. nobody questions a hepatitis or mmr vaccine for school because it really prevents spread. the rub with this vaccine it doesn't prevent spread but more powerful than flu. >> harris: those are the facts needed. thank you very much, dr. siegel. always great to have you in "focus." division and turmoil in the united kingdom. conservative prime minister liz truss has quit after six weeks in office. what it could mean for us here at home especially when it comes to the economy. by the way, their inflation has
