fiscal year was the deadliest on record as migrants crossed the southern border. >> this comes as cpb reveals several other records were set at the border last fiscal year. todd: here is bill melugin in eagle pass, texas with more. reporter: guys, good morning to you. what is blatant attempt at a news dump cpb released september border numbers 11:00 p.m. friday night. those numbers are historic. take a look. cpb reported month of september alone, more than 227,000 migrant encounters. that is the highest september monthly total in dhs history. those numbers show fiscal year 2022 ended with well over 2.3 million migrant encounters. that is the highest fiscal year ever recorded. the numbers also show that there were 98 people on the fbi's terror watch list arrested by border patrol at the border in fiscal year 2022. that number is nearly quadruple

start with that, just top line, top issue what is motivating you, darrell as a voter in georgia? >> economy. i'm a small business here in met poll can atlanta. about economics and economy here will determine who gets my vote. will: what are you feeling before we talk about which way the vote goes, your perception much fellow neighbors and georgians as well what are you feeling? we all see the headlines. we see inflation. worry about rising business rates, as small business owner, what are you feeling in your business? >> i'm feeling we're about to go into very tough times. i'm getting prepared to reserve as much resources as i can, with high labor costs, with high insurance costs, and fuel costs in the transportation business it has really, really affected the way that i i'm able to do business and be successful. will: apply that to what you plan to do in the voting booth in a few a little over two weeks. talk about your governors race.

stacey abrams, brian kemp, tight race. by most polling, "realclearpolitics" shows he has the lead. in this poll by one percentage point. with the knowledge of the economy is your major voting issue what does that mean for you in the governor's race? >> it means that i've got to make a tough decision and right now i'm kind of undecided but one thing i do know for a fact that brian kemp has led this state and he has been a strong leader for businesses and small businesses. so i right now i know what he is capable of doing. the economy for georgia overall is doing well and we've had surpluses in our revenue and i think we need to continue to make sure we got the right person and a strong leader. we're headed into tough times. will: tough times. you said it's a tough decision, sounds like you're leaning towards kemp because of the economy? what about the senate race?

polling all over the place. one poll shows warnock up 7% over herschel walker. others say it is tighter. what are you thinking in the senate race. >> senate race i'm with warnock. i think herschel walker is bad draft pick, based on what i know about senator warnock, what he is trying to do, i think that he is the best choice in that race. and i do feel i will win the race. will: quickly to follow up on that, darrell, said the economy is your major concern. one of those is inflation. in the rates that come in to battle inflation. some of that is because of the spending we've seen over last couple years with democrats in charge. that doesn't make you concerned sending rafael warnock backs perhaps green-lighting more government spending? >> no. that doesn't make me concerned. i had personal conversations. he reached out to small businesses. he reached out to a group of us. i think he understands that what we're doing. i think he gets the government may have artificially pumped too

those could be stymied if the republicans take control of congress. certainly slowed down. if that were to happen you have a ray of hope. if the democrats keep control, then you got more spending, higher interest rates, more inflation, and i know will is going to get to me on this one, you will have a nasty recession in the middle of january next year or first quarter of next year. there is a high probability of that, not a certainty. rachel: are you saying we can avoid recession if republicans are put -- >> no. rachel: you're not saying that? >> no. the cavalry is coming in the long term. not the short term. rachel: all they can do is put brakes on it. will: potentially soften it, potentially soften? >> yes. will: he is joking. we were going at it during the commercial break. you are saying you could have a softer recession? >> i'm very unwilling to say this is going to happen that will happen. will: absolutely, yes. >> you don't want to do that because there are some unknowns. i don't know what the federal reserve is going to do. the inflation at 8%. probably stays a the that level.
