about to come from the garage. we didn't realize it splattered everywhere. we thought we cleaned it up and of course, what is this? what is this on my wall? oh, my gosh! well, anyway, it was a mess. >> to your point, cincinnati makes good chili. >> brian: because you could have bailed that in your opening shot. i really felt bail on your cincinnati shot. >> steve: one thing in cincinnati can agree with with people all over the country as a comic they are wondering what is going on with america schools because of the so-called nation's report card came out at midnight. the national education progress and what they do is they track the progress for fourth graders and eighth graders. and i got some bad news for you. it is the biggest math decline ever in american history as long as they have been keeping track of it.

as you can see right there, the column in the middle comic fourth-graders their math went down five points, the reading et points and eighth graders math went down eight points and reading three points. educators say, a one or two-point drop is significant. but an eight-point drop in some cases is shocking. what they say is if it drops ten points, you would have lost an entire year of learning. >> ainsley: wow, gosh! >> steve: it is that close to a loss year. >> ainsley: this is something especially affecting parents, my middle schoolers and those who have little kids, those first five years when our little ones in the pandemic are wearing masks, zooming trying to learn how to read zooming for an hour a day it is so concerning and worries all of us. we talked of these teachers with the parent/teacher conferences and you hear across the board every state the teacher saying "is so significant and the

students are so far behind." >> brian: what if you made school voluntary? do homework if you want, don't worry about test pier that is what happened the last two years for the most part. kids disappeared without having the internet and just wanted to put their camera on it. black and hispanic students as we have said, the people in the working class sessions, the most disadvantaged and paying the biggest price between low-income families and those well resourced families between students with disabilities in english and learners and their peers caps have long existed but now they have gotten even greater compared to their white peers. they paid the greatest price and the ones that need the most help, you could argue. you have this happening and the backdrop the cdc coming down saying, "by the way i am recommending to states you demand everybody get the covid-19 shot before they go to school and you can make your own decisions. but a lot of chic governors who

feel like they won't do that and will disenfranchise more kids who parents say i'm not comfortable with that or the ones that don't want to do it and will go to private school. >> ainsley: according to the nations report card, west virginia, oklahoma and northwest region where districts will stay longer. the most significant score drops. math 25% of the fourth graders are basic level. >> brian: parents are going to remember who locked their kids out and told him to stay home. >> ainsley: 38% of eighth graders below the percentage level. >> steve: that is jaw-dropping because to me the biggest eye-opener because if four and ten kids who are in fifth grade can't do basic math poll what are they going to do their whole lives? the most part they teach the kids how to do these things and third grade. if they can't do it in fourth grade, what are they going to do?

keep in mind according to the national report card, the numbers were going down before the pandemic, however, the pandemic made it worse. newt gingrich is on with us a little while ago and we talked a little bit the reflection on this report card and how it relates to teachers. >> we can't just write it off as a generation of kids that she did. we have to go back and find a way to get educated appear at a lot of different states are working on that. it is also a real bit of condemnation of the teachers union and their commitment to radical value rather than the effect of education. that will be a big issue virtually everywhere in the country. it is the combination of the economy you can afford the gas, the food, the rent, electricity, and radical values. and the two together are repelling people from the democratic party on a scale i don't -- this may be the biggest

he is a waiter on the upper east side. shoved in brooklyn, i don't think brooklyn but trying to get to work on the upper east side and that happens to him. everyone who rides the subway says, "i stand against the wall" but in order to get on the wall, you have to walk there obviously. he was minding his business and this guy starts over for no reason. clearly a mental health issue and why would you want to do that to another person? >> brian: mayor adam says don't wear your ipods and number two i would rather not get that type of advice from my mayor not to listen or put something in my ears. that is not an answer to a problem. >> ainsley: how about clean up the subway? >> brian: that would help. the former commissioner said this is not rocket science. we have done this before. he told this to neil saturday. >> this is not brain surgery. we know what needs to be done to make new york safer. to make new york safer the last two years ago has to be

revisited. things as anti-crime units in the streets. have more police officers in the transit system. i think the transit system has to be re-examined. when was autonomous entity with 400 police officers? now the bureau has about 2500 police officers. that is a major reduction. these are some of the things i think should be done. >> steve: it is not a secret and that is why lee zeldin starting with, surging in new york because he has made crime his signature issue. it has terrified everybody in new york city for the most part if new york city. but here's the thing, he can talk about it because he has personally been the victim of it. he was at the rally and the guy comes up. and then, just a couple of weeks ago, 's daughters are at the kitchen table doing their homework on a weekend and he's across the area

st. patrick's day -- not same st. patrick's day but columbus day parade. what happens? there is a shooting in his front yard and his children knew what to do in an interior room and they called 911. it is not hypothetical to him. he has been a victim of crime twice and the people in new york, if the guy running for governor can get into trouble with crime like his family has, it can happen to anybody. >> ainsley: when he left, kathy hochul had a chance to clean up the city. she is one against lee zeldin and democrats in the study say "we don't care but we want the candidate who cares about crime." the democrats are voting for lee zeldin as a republican because they know he is not soft on crime but wants to get rid of the d.a. >> brian: she is good for getting money on special entrance and flagrant about it but realizing those numbers are real and a dead heat between the two and it was 16 to 20 points earlier.

what are your issues? what are the issues the constituents and how can you help these families? >> well, we have the best policies. we have common sense policies to solve some of these issues. obviously, people are concerned about the economy. people closing in on the retirement and are tired of watching a third of their retirement savings shriveled up under joe biden. we are watching families cannot afford to put food on the table. so that is a big issue. a wide open border causing millions of people to pour across illegally. many of them guilty of crimes spirit and also, the fentanyl crisis that is killing our young generation pier that is a huge crisis. the lack of proper education for our children. that is why dual track education so after tenth grade, you can get a trade skill training or certification in high school so you are ready for the real world. we have lots of big issues, and the republicans have all of the

solutions. >> ainsley: i know there are rumors that if donald trump runs again, he might choose you to be his running mate as vice president. you were interviewed yesterday, and you said, this is manipulation. these rumors are out there trying to tell voters she will not serve for a total of four years. tell us why you think that. >> i just think it is humorous, ainsley. when i first got into this the press was attacking me, what does she know and how dare she run for office. who did she think she is? they were saying i don't have the skills to run for office and now all of a sudden, whoa! i'm so skilled i might be running for vice president. i think they are trying to scare the voters. i really do. i think they have tried everything to bring us down. like i said, we have a movement and it's not about me but the people of arizona. i'm going to be here not just for years. i will be here eight years. it will be the fake news worst nightmare for eight years so they better get used to it.

i think there is a bunch of things that need to happen and i will hit the vocational drum again and again. i will remind people that if you master a skill that is truly in demand, your future has never been brighter. that is called comfort compared to kids behind the eight ball right now, but i do think it is part of a larger message that has to be articulated again and again and again and again. you know, when we were in high school looking, we used to have two columns, there was your grade and then there was your effort. it is like letter "a" for effort but c-. or c- for effort. and so we don't really do that anymore. >> brian: actually i did not realize that. >> it was always two columns. i would be curious what the national column for effort would be. if a true and fair arbiter were looking at this. what did we really try to do to
