"fox news @ night" with dreamy trace gallagher is next. i'm greg gutfeld, and i love you, america. >> trace: thank you, greg. hello and everyone welcome to america's late news, "fox news @ night." i am trace gallagher in los angeles. breaking tonight: two weeks to the midterms and there are new signs democrats are moving away from issues like abortion and instead attacking what they love to refer to as the maga crowd, saying that the mega magas will tank the economy. the political panel weighs in on

president biden's claim the democrats are the fiscally responsible ones but the polls tend to disagree. plus, it seems every day records of the southern border are being shattered. bill melugin has new numbers. the cbp tried to quietly release. the common sense department will take a closer look at what's really behind the staggering new stats. and, as crime surges, the epicenter of the defund the police movement is, surprise, surprise, struggling to hire new police officers. "fox news @ night" investigates why minneapolis and many other cities are having a tough time recruiting cops. we begin with president biden shifting midterm message in his new claim that the so-called mega maga republicans will crash the economy. the white house correspondent kevin corke is live in the nation's capital with more on this. >> evening. the list of reasons for the
9:02 pm
country's economic woes continues to expand, at least according to the biden white house which you know at various times has blamed covid-19, russia, the war in ukraine, trump policies, greedy big oil companies, racism, and now they say the economy is being threatened by mega maga trickle-down. >> republicans are doubling down on their mega maga trickle-down economics that benefits the very wealthy, it failed the country before and it will fail it ag again. democrats are lowering your everyday costs like restriction drugs, health care premiums, energy bills, gas prices. >> those remarks at the dnc. comments that are debatable. critics point out that inflationary pressures thanks to biden policies are what drove up costs in the first place in many sectors, only now the administration is trying to take credit for bringing the prices back all the way down from those highs, although not all the way
9:03 pm
back down to where they were when biden took office. meanwhile, republicans on capitol hill are convinced voters won't buy the biden story and they'll prove it in 14 days. >> we went from a secure border to know border, safe streets to record crime, to dollar gas to $5 gas, stable prices to record inflation. you can feel a change. they know democrats are responsible for this and they are going to vote for republicans and i think it would be a big night for us on november 8. >> we will find out very soon. new tonight, axios is reporting mr. biden and former president obama will stump for pennsylvania senate candidate john fetterman on november 5, a harbinger of things to come in perhaps a clear sign that he's in need of help. >> trace: i was under the impression that mega maga was the bad guy in the incredibles. i think it was. mega maga. >> i can't remember. sounds familiar.
9:04 pm
>> trace: picked it up from somewhere. kevin corke, thank you. president biden continues to play the blame game over inflation in the nation's overall economic outlook for the president is now openly talking about other concerning numbers, like his age. let's bring in tonight's political panel. former new york state senator, democratic strategist david carlucci and former chairman of the house oversight committee, fox news contributor jason chaffetz. gentlemen, welcome to both. jason, i keep looking at the president's approval numbers and they are going back down. he continues this blame game, it started in afghanistan. it was the general's fault and that it is putin's price hike. it's clear people aren't buying it, even members of his own party. why is he not holding a little accountability in this incentive blaming the mega maga republicans. >> it's not a good look. democrats have the house and senate and the presidency.
9:05 pm
they can try to blame donald trump or somebody else along the way but they've had the reins for a couple years now. every stat you are looking at that people actually care about is moving in the wrong dire direction. it's not a good look. it doesn't win elections. there's a reason why joe biden is not on the campaign trail. why nancy pelosi is in croatia, and they can have -- they don't have any leadership that could make the case. >> trace: if you are advising the president, would you do the same thing? you blame everybody else, you don't take accountability. eventually people are going to start believing you. why now blame the economy? saying that mega magas are going to sink the economy? >> this isn't about blame it's about drawing the contrast in making that distinct picture between republicans and democrats and what's at stake. president biden has been clear. the deficit has gone down under
9:06 pm
his leadership. it went up under president trump. he's unable to cap the cost of drugs that medicare recipients will have to pay. capping the cost of insulin. the biggest investment in our environment. he's had success after success. >> trace: i want to give you credit and i want to give you time but a lot of that stuff is just not true. people are worried about inflation. the democrats keep saying the republicans under president trump, it was worse. i want to read this. this was from "the wall street journal" eight months ago. "between 2017 and 2019, median household incomes below 15.4% among blacks it went up and only 11.5% among whites. the investment bank goldman sachs released a paper in march of 2019 that showed pay for those of the lower end of the wage distribution rising and nearly double the rate of pay for those of the other end. it's well-documented.
9:07 pm
until the pandemic, people at the lower ends of the spectrum or doing much better under trump than they are doing right now. i will give you a few more seconds on this. >> we are in a recession. we see that. it's a global issue of inflation and actually the united states is doing better than most countries. there is no question there are issues there are problems. president biden has put his best foot forward and is actually got results. now we get close to election day, it's out painting the picture and showing the contest. yes we can debate but facts are facts. the deficit has gone down under biden. it went up under trump. >> trace: and inflation has gone up and prices have gone up energy prices have gone up. people's paychecks have gone up about 4%, half. 4% underwater. i want to move on. the interview that the president did with msnbc talking about his age, it struck me. i will play the sound bite.
9:08 pm
>> i think it's a legitimate thing to be concerned about anyone's age, including mine. totally legitimate. i am a great respecter of feet. i could get deceased tomorrow. i could drop dead tomorrow. a great respecter of fate. in terms of my energy level, in terms of how much i'm able to do, i think people should look and say, still have the same passion for what he's doing. >> trace: what with the answer b, jason? it seems to me like he is kind of laying the groundwork for maybe not running in 2024. >> well, i don't think it so much his age and his lack of cognitive give abilities. they are obviously declining on a daily basis. listen to these gaffes. the most falls asleep. reports coming out of the white house and he spends a couple hours a day trying to get through what he's doing in the oval office. there's a reason why he has
9:09 pm
endorsed less than ten people going into a pivotal election. nobody wants to be seen with him because often they go out and do that and he does name remember their name. he just called vice president kamala harris the president. it's really quite embarrassing at this point. >> trace: i want to play this last thing. i want to get your opinion. this is the monmouth poll. biden and attention to issues important to your family. giving enough attention, 31% say yes, he is. wish she would give more attention, 63%. 63% is a big number. your final thoughts on this? >> these polls have been up and down, as we've all been following. the republicans have been leading, democrats, republicans. this gives the democrats an opportunity to weeks into really focus on those issues, talk about the economy, paint the contrast between republicans and democrats and make sure that the american public knows what's at stake. so these final two weeks, don't count the democrats out.

overdose. the vast majority of those deaths, fentanyl. common sense wonders if border agencies ceased 14,000 pounds of fentanyl, how many pounds made in the country? the known or suspected terrorists arrested at the southern border. in fiscal years 2017 through 2021, a grand total of 26 people on the terror watch list were caught. in fiscal 2022 alone, the number jumped to 98 and if 98 got arrested last year, how many actually made it into the u.s.? finally there are the consequences of the migrants themselves, what they endure. last year 856 migrants died crossing the border. that does not include those who died traveling to the border. either way, 2022 is the deadliest year for migrants on record by a mile. common sense wonders why there's no or media outrage unless outrage was only warranted for those who lose their lives under certain presidents.
