speak to kimberly, good morning to you. it took the judge about a half-hour yesterday to read all the guilty verdicts. what is your reaction to the outcome of this case? >> good morning. so i think a lot of us were able to maybe take a breath. it's validation. i think justice needs to happen, even more so with, you know, laws, stricter enforcement of our laws, our state statutes. i think susan apter needs to really stand on her word that she's going to convict criminals and uphold the laws. >> todd: will a verdict like this help your community heal or are the wounds still too fresh for that to happen now?

>> they are very fresh. i think we are able... it's a step forward. it is not a complete healing at all. we will have long-term, lifelong trauma and really a lifelong healing. >> carley: kimberly, it's been almost a year since this horrific attack took place. where were you and what did you see? >> i was with my nieces and my sister-in-law's and we were in front of subway like we always are and my daughter was at my feet. what i saw was that red suv going over a person. i didn't know at the time who it was. the front tires went and the back tires went. at that point i knew it wasn't an accident. i knew it was on purpose.

thank goodness my sister-in-law pulled my niece out of harm's way and we just saw a bumper and tires just within inches of us. and that plays over my head over and over again. and i didn't know, i was sequestered as a witness. i didn't know who it was. nobody exchanged information, i didn't stick around the find out if she was okay. she was waste away to safety. i was dealing with my own realization of what was going on and i finally found out that her name is nicole and she is alive. >> todd: it goes without saying that crime is going to play a huge role across the

you see how this border crisis affects texas and the entire country, essentially every state is a border state. seeing record number of immigrants coming across the border, record number of deaths and being smuggled by human smugglers and being killed in high-speed chases. we saw in san antonio, we lost 53 immigrants being smuggled in a trailer. we have never dealt with fentanyl like we are now, nearly 300 americans are dying everyday because of fentanyl poisoning and federal government fails to designate mexican cartel for a foreign terrorist organization. they could put more pressure on the mexican government and
