out from the midterms, and even solidly blue oregon is up for grabs. republicans in the state fifth district looking to flip the seat read for the first time in nearly 30 years. voters of oregon demanding change on election day with recent polling showing 62% of oregonians think the state is on the wrong track. lori schoff as dreamer, the former canada in oregon's fifth district, how the heck is a republican going to flip those deep blue portland suburbs where your district is located? >> well, thank you for having made this morning. we are excited about this race. we are excited for oregon because it is exactly that. every. everyday oregon's have had enough. we have seen on the streets of portland as the backdrop of the rising crime. we see the gas prices hitting $6 a gallon and i think people are just frankly quite tired and they want common sense approach

us to not believe our eyes any longer. it is in every street, everywhere downtown portland and migrated to all communities. in my district the fifth district, we see it over the cascades in into central oregon. over 15,000 was the last report and we know that is in undercount. kids are back in school. they cannot walk on the streets. the tent cities are everywhere. i will tell you is a member of congress, drug addiction is a problem on the streets. we are number 50 in drug addiction and excuse me number one in drug addiction and number 50 and drug treatment. the fentanyl prices are affecting oregonians every single day. we sold the biggest drug bust in eugene in the southern portion of my district where it would have killed over 1 million people if it was confiscated the pier that is an issue. certainly, people want to know about this race because again everyday moms, everyday business owners, community members saying

enough is enough. you will find more about this issue because people care and want to know how we will make the change and we have to do it out governor's race will highlight that as well, christine drazan and that is why people are changing their minds. you will see oregon flip bread to. >> todd: with all of that in mind in the oregon governor's race, they would have put somebody up there a little less for left in your race, same thing you would think they put the democrats somebody a little bit more moderate. they did not do that. they went all in progressive in the governor's race and your race. how important is that two modern democrats to vote for you? >> oh, absolutely. really they ate their own. here is the deal, get calls every day that tell me, you know, we are democrats, but we are not voting democrat this cycle because of all of the bad policies we have seen in oregon. people are frustrated and people are tired. people want to see real change.

correctional center ten days ago he got to go home same day for crock time spent jail and 56% reduction. only six days later not even a week he was arrested again for punching a woman and kicking a cop in the groin. the l.a. department of corrections is not revoking his parole. meanwhile the chicago mayor lori lightfoot proposed a new ordinance further defining a proposal to increase her pay, sagging, "the ordinance introduced today would put the mayor, city treasurer and all elected officials regarding the cost of living increases. it is not a salary increase." now $260,000, but with 5% pay raise, it will be $227,000. meanwhile the gubernatorial candidate bailey is slamming candidates for not having a better handle on all of the top issues facing americans today. >> we have to wonder why we are still having problems because of

sergeant smith, the police resignations are up 18% and retirements up 45%. how long do you expect this trend to last? what are some solutions to this? >> well, i think this trend will last another year or t. replacing the police officers is very difficult. remember a police officer goes through nine months to a year training a day before hired before they hit the streets. now, we are going to have difficulty retaining officers because of many things you just described. we can't get new people to this profession because law enforcement has been light about, we have been vilified. so we are heading in a crisis, and we will see it for another couple of years at least. >> carley: out in l.a. detective mcbride, the police department there down 600 officers, crime up 9%.

sentiment is moving back to the side of law enforcement and does that give you hope? >> well, absolutely the national police department is being bullied. most citizens want their police departments refunded or funded more. most citizens are concerned with our mental health and most citizens want more police in their neighborhood. so, it is not the people who want the police defined about the politicians. we see a lot of that being walked back right now. but we know it is all on video. a great example, cori bush in st. louis the other day when they have they are terrible school shooting. the st. louis pd came in there, took out the threat, and she put out a very lukewarm, "oh, thanks first responders" and she calls getting rid of the county jail and the voters know. they know.
