>> thank you, dr. drew, our studio audience! "fox news @ night" with dreamy trace gallagher is next. i love you, america. >> trace: good evening, everyone, welcome to america as late news, "fox news @ night." trace gallagher in los angeles. and breaking tonight. house speaker nancy pelosi's husband is now out of surgery and recovering from a fractured skull after he was assaulted. some on the left like aoc are wasting no time laming this network for the attack. and other democratic candidates
9:01 pm
are using the incident to raise money. so much for the tamping down of dangerous political rhetoric. senate majority leader chuck schumer caught on a hot mike sounding the alarm of midterm elections in the long odds facing his party. he's not alone. former white house press et cetera jen psaki isn't all that optimistic either. live reaction from steve hilton who also has a lot to say about the new self-described chief twits. that would be elon musk. plus more dismal economic data for president biden showing the cost of everyday items continues to climb. so why does the president keep saying record inflation doesn't exist? in moments, the great historian and voice of reason victor davis hanson will weigh in. we begin with crime coming to the home of house speaker nancy pelosi. marianne rafferty has new information about the suspect and what actually happened inside the pelosi home.
9:02 pm
good evening. >> police say paul pelosi was able to call 911 as the attack unfolded and they also say the suspect identified as 42-year-old by breaking the glass door for the intruder who repeatedly called out "where is nancy," and beat pelosi with a hammer for police say that pelosi was struck at least once and recovering after under covering surgery to repair a skull fracture. also serious injuries to right arms and hands. officers were able to respond to the pelosi home and under 2 minutes, crediting a quick thinking dispatcher. >> based on experience and her intuition, she basically figured out that there was something more to this incident than she was being told. her actions in my opinion resulted in both a higher priority dispatch and a faster police response.
9:03 pm
i think this was life-saving. >> chief scott also sang at this time they can't say what the motive is publicly but that it was an intentional act. san francisco attorney brooke jenkins saying the struggle between david depape and pelosi was caught on cam. the assault comes seven days before the midterm elections and being condemned on both sides of the political aisle. president biden speaking really about the attack. >> trace: enough is enough is enough! every person in good conscience needs to clearly and unambiguously stand up against the violence in our policies, regardless what your politics are. >> this attack is the latest amid rising threats to officials, a man was arrest with a gun after threatening to kill her. later that month, a man stormed the stage and attacked new york of editorial candidate lee zeldin during a campaign
9:04 pm
rally. as for depape, san francisco d.a. says her office will file multiple felony charges on monday. expected to be arraigned on tuesday. >> trace: there's a lot about the story we still don't know. >> that's what it's about. >> trace: anxiety appears growing for democrats as we get closer to the midterm elections. president biden and vice president harris made a rare campaign appearance together in pennsylvania where the race between democrat john fetterman and republican mehmet oz could decide which party controls the senate. the white house correspondent kevin corke has more in how the left is dealing with a potential red wave. good evening. >> evening, my friend. like abbott and costello, roland martin, and laurel and hardy, the president and vice president their act on the road in providing a different bit of distraction for inflation weary voters in the commonwealth of pennsylvania. while trying to boost the
9:05 pm
fortunes of quickly fading john fetterman and other democrats in the commonwealth. meantime they are also trying a little bit familiar song and dance for voters. you know, getting out there and telling them how great things are and how great they are going to be. the voters who have been subjected to nonstop little ads on tv and hearing constantly the warnings about the coming political apocalypse if democrats lose badly in the midterms. >> 11 days, 11 days until the most important election in our lifetime pair that's not hyperbole. it's going to shape what this country looks like for the next decade or more! not a joke. >> "not a joke." do you know what else is in a joke? fears on the political left as you point out especially here in washington, fear is that a red wave is coming and time is running out to stem the tide. >> people are fearful about
9:06 pm
where the momentum is going and some of these races. there are very encouraging signs like that regularly about numbers but some of the house races are not where they should be. people trying to get a lot of what i talk to you are about voters being encouraged and excited about people at the top of the ticket and maybe not excited enough to vote for the congressional candidates and that's a real concern. >> they are worried, all right. new york senator chuck schumer, majority leader whose hot mike worries about losing georgia gave americans a little bit of a peek behind the curtain. he made it clear to the president he thinks they are in trouble there and maybe elsewhere. they sound upbeat in public but privately they are already looking for the exits. you'll have much more on that as a show continues. former president barack obama spent the day over in georgia something for stacey abrams and raphael warnock, he'll do more of that down the stretch and across the country even as it looks ever more likely that a
9:07 pm
massive loss looms for democrats in just over a week. trace? >> live for us in d.c. thank you. as we been telling you, the new polls now show democrats in jeopardy of losing their majorities in both the house and the senate. let's bring in the host of the next revolution here on fox news channel, steven hilton. you watch the democrats and they go from campaign to campaign that it really is, it's kind of in disarray. nobody knows where to go. this "wall street journal" says the following here. says the trump presidency because many people to lose their minds. democrats and the media most of all the normal party checks on radical policies vanished as opposition to trump became the party's all defining political mission, perhaps a drubbing on november 8th will jolt the party back to reality. it's a fair assessment, steve, because you take away trump and they don't have a lot to run on. >> that's exactly why. they thought that they could
9:08 pm
still somehow managed to run on trump plus the issue of abortion. that was their plan as recently as a month or so ago that was their only message. abortion, january 6, abortion, insurrection. just as the last minute as it all collapses suddenly you see the reports this week started to retool their message desperately trying to come up with a message on the economy or health care or something. but the truth is there is no message that can counteract the damage they've done to peoples' real lives in the economy, with inflation, gas prices, all the things we've covered and ones we don't cover so often, the response to the inflation they created which is the rise in interest rates which is now leading to a doubling of mortgage rates in the last year. a thousand dollars a month extra on average with people with mortgages. you have the crime that's out of control. there is no democrat message that can counteract that reality and unlike many midterms this
9:09 pm
one is where their record in their two years is unmitigated disaster. nothing positive about what they've done, every single area of policy, domestic or foreign, it's been a disaster. that's why they are going to get punished. >> trace: a lot of them don't want to talk about crime altogether. talking about the attack on paul pelosi. adam kissinger on cnn going after republicans for not speaking out against the attack and of course there is a list, kevin mccarthy, steve scalise, ted cruz. i can name 20 who have absolutely came out and condemned the attack. do you know we didn't? the vice president kamala harris. listen to her and i'll get your response. >> i think we are looking at a time in our country where there is so much discourse that is fueled by hate and division. and anyone who professes to be a leader, has to really understand that the meaning and the impact
9:10 pm
of their words and their posture. >> she didn't go after and condemned the attack. she went after the rights. she went after the right and that's how she responded to the paul pelosi attack. your thoughts? >> if anybody needs to think about the meaning and impact of their words, she should say that to her boss because biden has done more than anyone to feel hate and division in this na nation. barely did a campaign in the traditional sense. it was to unite the country, restore the soul of america, whatever he talked about. he's done exactly the opposite. in terms of the pelosi attack, obviously a horrific attack. there are very few types of crime that are worse than a home invasion that ends in this kind of violence because it forever shatters the sanctity of your home. the truth is that many people have to suffer that in san francisco these days. you see these attacks all the
9:11 pm
time, driven often by people who are just looking to steal something and it ends and violins. this one seems to have been motivated by politics or political violence is totally unacceptable. it's corrosive of our democracy. the problem is too often we seem democrat leaders only condemn political violence when it suits their narrative. all of us should condemn it all the time. >> as steve scalise said today it should be condemned as you say all the time by both sides, every party all the time. i want to finish with elon musk, the financial website "market watch had the elon musk will destroy freedom of speech, not protected. are you buying that, steve? >> it's just so laughable, isn't it. the word orwellian is so overused when they say the exact opposite of the words they use, the exact opposite of what they
9:12 pm
mean. what have we come to where actually there are serious people, serious outlets, politicians, leaders, people on other news outlets who genuinely seem to think that restricting speech and not allowing controversial opinions on subjects such as the pandemic or anything else is part of the democratic process and it's part of protecting free speech. it is totally mad. alfie asked rose and the reason they are hysterical because they got to rely on a system where they have the levers of influence in the media and social media to protect their arguments from real challenge and real facts and if you just censor people then you have to actually argue your case, when they find they have to do that in a free and open way they are going to lose. >> i wish somebody would tell me when dissent suddenly became an assault on democracy. it's great to see you, thank you, sir.
9:13 pm
>> thank you. >> american supply of diesel fuel the lifeblood of farmers, truckers and trains is now unacceptably low. that tonight from a biden administration official and apparently we could run out in less than a month. so what's the remedy for this oncoming disaster? ashley strohmier live for us in new york with more. good evening. >> nearly all products are transported by diesel fuels, trucks, trains and barges and right now the u.s. only has 25 days worth of diesel supply in reserve. with the fear of a diesel fuel shortage comes higher demand which ultimately means higher prices. a lack of refining capacity in investment and refinery closures and maintenance are all tied to this looming situation. a white house official released a statement saying they are closely monitoring diesel inventory levels especially on the east coast and are in touch with the u.s. energy companies on the need to build up reserves and drive toward solutions.
9:14 pm
nu england the diesel fuel and heating oil supply is 66% below, the mid-atlantic is 66% below. already double what it used to be. >> a normal delivery which is usually 170, 180 gallons, the same now for a thousand dollar bill. >> goldman sachs warned the short edge saying it will cause a spike this winter, ultimately putting strain on people with the fixed income and we aren't the only ones who are worried about supply being dangerously low. parts of europe are running out of diesel, many are calling the situation dyer and reports indicate that the colonial pipeline is fully booked to carry diesel to the east coast but the first deliveries are in until early november so it will be a while before the supply pressure does ease. >> trace: that's a tough break for a lot of people. the diesel fuel prices not helping to lower inflation.
9:15 pm
the president says the economic bad news does not exist and over institution senior fellow victor davis hanson. always great to see you. we hear the president every day say the economy is just fine in the media buys it and democrats buy it but when it comes out and says that the u.s. is not experiencing record inflation, comes out and says that gas was five bucks a gallon the day he took office when everybody in the country knows it was to go dollars $0.39. the bigger problem, victor, is that inflation and the key things that we use like energy and housing and food is much higher. it's ten, 20%. it's killing these families and the president will not acknowledge it. >> it's true. the stuff of life, shelter, food, energy, all of that, gasoline, it's about 16-20%. and he either denies that it's happening, that the middle-class
9:16 pm
is being systematically destroyed under his watch, or he makes things up. but what is really strange is when you have the house and the senate and the presidency and you push through the agenda and you got what you wanted, you defended. he's not saying, gosh, we cancel all those pipelines, shut down and water, fewer releases than any other presidency, we got 3 million people across the border and it still open, we'll get more. or we've got no bail laws now and we've defunded the police and these not defending it and he's not changing, he's not either saying we are going to build the wall we are at least going to start keystone or open up and water, he's not doing any of that. what is he doing? doing what you say, denying the problem exist or he's lying about it. and that filters down to these candidates. you can see in every major senate or gubernatorial race the democratic candidate doesn't want to debate or that if they
9:17 pm
do debate, they delay and delay so they help the mail-in ballots are such a number that the bait will become irrelevant. they don't want to own what they did. they don't want own what they did. >> unfortunately they do own it and that's part of the problem. i'm not an economist. the two, denominators, i noticed back then, the housing crisis -- ic credit card debt along the country is going way up and you see housing prices starting to come down. those are very ominous signs for the economy. >> yes. absolutely. credit card debt going up and what's really scary is mortgage costs are skyrocketing, houses are not selling. and yet they haven't come down at a price where they should and you get the impression that people are holding out for those high prices that doesn't exist and suddenly it's going to crash and that's what's really scary.
9:18 pm
>> trace: i wanted to play this and get your opinion because it was katie hobbs and somebody was asking her about a break and in her office and she would not get off the subject. i'm going to play the subject going to get your response on the other side, victor. >> what was taken from your campaign office -- >> i'm not talking about that incident. >> i think that's a big deal -- >> i think safe and legal abortion is a big deal. >> do you have reason to believe it split we motivated? >> not going on a statement at this time. >> she's running behind and won't change strategy. avoiding crime like it was criminal and focusing on abortion. what do you make of the strategy you're sitting around the country? >> well, they missed the boat. everybody had told them that the issues were in the class was not making it and they ignored that because they didn't have an argument for it.
9:19 pm
and now they are looking for distractions. sometimes it's donald trump, mar-a-lago, january 6th. and sometimes it's these incidences. i would say that with the pelosi incident and her break in, these have already been politicized. in that strategy if you remember back in 2018 right on the eve of the midterms there was a horrific shooting in a synagogue in philadelphia that the right wing anti-semitic shooter did not like donald trump it he said he was a globalist and too pro-jewish, a converted jewish daughter. nevertheless they use that to great effect and say that shooting was a result from the -- that playbook is back in style, i guess. as people have pointed out it doesn't apply to when republican people, zeldin, rand paul, or stevens police are attacked, and then is just -- it just happens.
9:20 pm
if any other incident happens on the eve of the midterm and it's connected to suppose it right wing rhetoric, we are going to see a lot of that in the next 11 days. >> you mention that shooting in pittsburgh in 2018, president biden said he was at the scene, not at the scene, and keeps bringing up and when you listen to governor kathy hochul and says to lee zeldin, why you so concerned about crime? well, because it's a thing. i've got 15 seconds were you, victor. >> there are four issues, trace. one is the economy, one is crime, one is the border. they inherited a nation where those were not issues, everything was fine. these were all self-induced disasters. they own and they don't know what to do about it because they are going to lose in a historic defeat in 11 days. >> it's always great to see you. have a great weekend. thank you. >> thank you.
