9:01 am
griff jenkins. jacqui: and i'm jacqui hinrich. and the suspect is expected to be arraigned on tuesday and with more on what we know about the attacker, hey, christina. >> hey, jacqui, yeah, paul pelosi suffered a fracture to his skull and serious injuries to his right arm and hands and fortunately he's expected to make a full recovery. he underwent successful surgery yesterday and house speaker nancy pelosi arrived at the hospital yesterday to make a visit. their family says they're grateful for all of the support that they've received. as for the suspect in this case, police say 42-year-old david depape broke into the pelosi's home in this upscale san francisco neighborhood shortly before 2:30 a.m. yesterday morning. a family member who was travelling with the house speaker yesterday says the suspect was trying to tie paul pelosi up until the house speaker got home and that he was shouting, where's nancy?
9:02 am
where's nancy? paul pelosi was able to call 911 and by making that crucial phone call probably saved his own life. when police arrived, they saw 82-year-old paul pelosi get attacked with the hammer. as for the suspect, depape has ties to a radical nudist activist and a disturbing online presence with blogs under his name and online posts about pedophiles, big brother censorship and anti-semitic content and q-anon and covid-19 vaccine conspiracies. yesterday, president joe biden condemned the attack. >> every person of a conscience, needs to clearly and unambiguously stand up against violence in our

politics, regardless of what your politics are, all of us. all of us together as americans and what makes us think one party can talk about stolen election, covid being a hoax, it's all a bunch of lies, and it not affect people who may not be so well-balanced. what makes us think that it's not going to corrode the political climate. enough is enough is enough. >> now, despite the president's accusations, police have not stated a motive for this attack. i want to reiterate, police have not stated a motive for the case and democrats and republicans swiftly condemned the brutal attack and mitch mcconnell tweeted horrified and disgusted by the reports that

paul pelosi was assaulted in his and speaker pelosi's home. glad to hear he is on track to make a full recovery. former vice-president mike pence released a statement, this is an outrage and our hearts are with the entire pelosi family. we pray paul will make a full recovery. there can be no tolerance for violence against public officials or their families. this man should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law and the fbi and the capitol police are assisting with this investigation. depape is going to be facing a number of charges, a number of felonies including attempted murder and as of now, his arraignment is scheduled for tuesday. jacqui: christina coleman, thank you, griff. griff: jacqui, we're just 10 days away from the midterm elections and prominent political figures including

former president president obama are out making final pushes to get to the polls. we have fox team coverage much some of the most contentious races and including in georgia. let's start first with the race for the governor of michigan. live pictures of a rally that barack obama is for christine in detroit. and gretchen whitmer will campaign with former president barack obama. live pictures from detroit are trying to boost whitmer's support and because the race between her and tudor dixon have tightened in a recent weeks. and whitmer with a lead among likely voters and the gap appears to be closing. whitmer has a huge fund raising, nearly 5 million in
9:06 am
the last two months alone. both campaigns are on issues likely to swing voters, and it in the debate did all they could to reach voters. >> i'm running for governor because gretchen whitmer has taken us on the wrong track, pushed a radical social agenda and hasn't listened to the problems you have every day. >> we all want the same thing, great jobs, great schools, safe roads. as governor i've worked across the aisle to make sure we're making a foundation for michiganders to thrive for generations. >> and president trump is supporting dixon. and a super pac spending a half million to reach voters in the late part of the race, but clearly, both parties are investing in michigan. why, griff? because it's a state that may have major implications for the
9:07 am
2024 presidential race and never too early to look down the line. griff: never too early. mark meredith covering all things michigan. thank you. jacqui: democratic senate candidate fetterman is on the complain trail in philadelphia, trying to rally the voters in the democratic city to show up in the polls this after rocky performance in a debate against his opponent dr. mehmet oz. hey, rich, what's going on? >> good afternoon, jacqui. john fetterman, the democrat in the race is back on campus speaking to a group of students, 2:00 at the student center at temple university. he's in the neighborhood in philadelphia because this race has gone national. the last three presidents are all going to be campaigning in pennsylvania for their candidates over the next week. that was already the case last evening as president biden and vice-president kamala harris were here in philadelphia at a
9:08 am
fundraiser to boost the candidate. despite biden's low approval ratings, he's all in and campaigning on issues like abortion. >> my bargain with all of you, my promise to every one of you is to be that 51st vote calling to eliminate the filibuster, to get all the good things done, codify roe v. wade. the choice belongs only with women and their doctors. >> fetterman's been knocking republican opponent mehmet oz that he state sporting, and oz called fetterman on the limits
9:09 am
on it. and as for the pel and vice-presidential visit here to philadelphia. oz's communication director said in a statement, quote, joe biden and kamala harris refused to fight violent crime, stop the flow of deadly drugs across our border and combat skyrocketing inflation and gas prices. there is no distracting from that dangerous agenda. so next week you've got president biden he's going to return to pennsylvania, philadelphia and pittsburgh. he'll be joined by his predecessor, or predecessor's predecessor, barack obama in rallies in pennsylvania and president trump will be in pennsylvania saturday on the western part of the state, boosting mehmet oz for his senate campaign. jacqui: you're in the thick of it for us, rich. thanks so much. griff. griff: jacqui, let's look live
9:10 am
now, this is an event for arizona democratic senator mark kelly. you see him there in the background, launching an early voting event in phoenix with california senator alex padilla speaking there. and kelly is facing a tight race against republican blake masters. we'll follow it for you. with early voting underway in georgia, democrats are hoping to capitalize on momentum from former president obama's packed rally last night in atlanta. senator rafael warnock and gubernatorial stacey abrams are hoping to gain browned ground on their opponents. >> one in five active voters in georgia have cast their ballots and that's record turnout here in the peach state. but democrats are showing no signs of slowing down their efforts to get voters out to the polls. former president barack obama rallied with senator rafael warnock and gubernatorial
9:11 am
candidate stacey abrams. the common thread in all of their speeches to georgia, go vote and vote for warnock and abrams. >> they are both hard-working, god-fearing, community-serving people who tell the truth, stick to their word, treat everybody with decency and respect. those are the values that they bring to bear. >> yeah, and so democrats are hoping the former president's strong showing will energize their base and hopefully translate into votes for them, particularly among black voters who have felt the chilling effects of high priority issues like inflation and rising crime under the biden administration. and mr. biden says this election is more than about policy and urge folks to vote in order to urge democracy and the fundamental right to abortion and issues that he
9:12 am
says shouldn't be left in the hands of the g.o.p. >> they're not interested in actually solving problems. they're interested in making you angry and finding somebody to blame because that way you may not notice that they've got no answers of their own. >> yeah, and so we know nationally that republicans have the edge over democrats in terms of who americans think are better suited to handle some of these problems, like the economy and inflation. democrats here in georgia are hoping that president obama was able to do enough to get more voters out to the polls, so democrats can edge out these highly competitive races here in georgia, griff. griff: competitive indeed. charles watson live for us in the battle ground state of georgia. charles, thank you. jacqui: for more on the midterm elections around the corner and the issues that are motivating voters, we're joined by republican congressman from
9:13 am
ohio and member of the house small business judiciary and foreign affairs committees, steve thank you for being with us on this saturday. off the top, i want your reaction to the attack on house speaker nancy pelosi's husband. what did you think when you got the news and today. >> it's horrific. no place for violence against anybody, whether it's a political or family member or just your average person on the street. this is outrageous. we've put out condemnation of this and also, hope that mr. pelosi will recover as quickly as possible. but this is inexcusable and this person ought to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. jacqui: you, sir, have made crime overall, a sort of cornerstone of your campaign and you've tied your opponent
9:14 am
to the movement to defund police. i know he recently released an ad disputing that attack and claiming that that was a lie. claiming he increased funding. i want you to a give an opportunity to answer that. >> at the height of the rioting in the streets, which happened most noticeably, obviously in portland and seattle and also happened here in senate. cincinnati. and at a time when cincinnati had high rates and decided that was a time to defund the police, an ordinance to take $200,000 out of the police budget and give it to the folks who pursue complaints against the police, and if that wasn't bad enough, thens, he decided to vote it take a million dollars on top of that away from the police department. one of the local tv stations did a report on this and they said it was the definition of
9:15 am
defunding the police. and then he got some soft on crime local democrat officials to cut a tv ads with him saying i wasn't telling the truth. the reality he was not telling the truth because he did vote to defund the police. jacqui: the two of you have had back and forth with your ads, sort of responding to the allegations from the other side. your race is now, according to the fox news power ranking, lean republican, but your district has been redrawn. this is probably a more difficult election cycle than you've faced in the past couple of years and i know that your opponent has ann i-- attacked you on abortion like the democrats across the board have been trying to tie republicans to extreme positions making that a cornerstone of their arguments. you've spoken out and said some of the attacks guns you are not entirely factual and some of those ads contained lies.
9:16 am
i want to give you an opportunity to correct those, but also, overall, democrats are warning that if republicans retake congress that there could be a national abortion ban. would you vote for a national abortion ban. >> well, i'm pro-life and was the principal sponsor of the ban on partial birth abortion, which is a late form of abortion and we can love both the mother and child and that's what we should do. the ads have been misleading from the other side across the board and this is a challenging district. it's a nine-point biden district as a result of redistricting, the toughest republican held district not only in ohio, but across the country, except there are three tougher districts in the state of california. despite that i feel we're going to win and focused on two principal issues, one as you mentioned, jacqui, crime. because people have the right to live in a safe neighborhood and the other is basically groceries. the democratic self-inflicted
9:17 am
policies caused inflation to go through the roof. and families literally can't afford to put food on the table and gas prices, even though president biden said they were $5 when he became president and gone down, i don't know where he's getting that from, prices on gas are about double what they were when president biden became president. and these are self-inflicted policies. we were energy independent. jacqui: yeah, i hear you. >> and they discouraged energy exploration in the country. democrat policies, and i think that republicans will win big, but we've got to get everybody out this year. jacqui: and your redrawn district now includes the whole city of cincinnati. hamilton county voted for biden by almost 16 points, a really big number and you voted along with 147-- 6 of your colleagues not to certify the 2020 election
9:18 am
results. do you feel that decision is hurting you with independents whose votes you would have to earn to win your election this time? >> no, not at all and i voted not to certify pennsylvania because they didn't follow the constitution. i was the former chair of the constitution subcommittee and judiciary, only state legislatures can change the election laws and they didn't do that in pennsylvania. i did vote to certify arizona. there were 17 of us that voted that way. but the bottom line is, i think people are focused on the issues i mentioned before. the fact that they've got the quite to live in safe neighborhoods and clearly many people don't and they have the right to be able to afford to put food on the table and gas in the tank. so they can take care of their kids, unfortunately the democrat policies have reversed the successful policies of the previous administration, we need to change that. jacqui: thank you so much, congressman. we've run out of time and appreciate you being with us and hope to have you back again
9:19 am
soon. good luck in your race. >> thank you very much. griff. griff: and jacqui, when we come back, you'll hear from the other side of the aisle. massachusetts congressman jake auchincloss joins us. that's next. till they taste what we've got ♪ [ tires squeal, crash ] when owning a small business gets real, progressive gets you right back to living the dream. now, where were we? 9:23 am
>> the midterm elections just under two weeks away with many very tight matchups across the country. for more, we're joined more by democratic congressman by massachusetts and the member of the house committee, jake auchincloss and the house financial services committee. congressman, thank you for being here on saturday. i want to get into the midterms with you. first i'd like to give you an opportunity to weigh in and get your reaction to this horrific attack on speaker pelosi's husband paul. >> it's appalling. this individual needs to be fully prosecuted. speaker pelosi and her family now have been attacked at her place of work and at her home. it's unacceptable and i hope the g.o.p. politicians recognize that words have consequences and on election night when i expect there's going to be a lot of disappointed g.o.p. candidates they need to be mindful of the words that they use to describe the election results because there are trouble individuals in this country who will turn
9:24 am
to violence and the g.o.p. politicians on ballot need to be cognizant of that. griff: we hope not to see violence on either side of the aisle. we should point out that the police have not identified the motive although there's a lot of reporting of individual's background. when you consider the recent political violence on both sides, jake, when you look at the horrific attack by a bernie sanders supporter on steve scalise at the baseball game and then justice kavanaugh's home. and it's timed. do you believe that enough is being done about the political violence on both sides? do members of coping congress, officials need more protection? >> the what-aboutisms. there's a dangerous trend of g.o.p. politicians citing violence on the extreme right. we saw it on january 6th with the president himself and we are seeing it now in the run-up to the elections and i really
9:25 am
want to put out a warning to g.o.p. politicians, who i think are going to be disappointed on election night that they have been mindful of the words that they use because they're going to be broadcast far and wide and all it takes is one individual. there's no place for violence in our system. when i hear something like glen youngkin making light of that, i wish paul pelosi the best, but we'll send nancy back to california to be with him. he needs to apologize. griff: when you look at upsets on election night. it looks like democrats have hurdles here and inflation and the economy, jake, seems to be the number one issue in many out there blaming democrat policies for it. so my simple question to you, with inflation at a 40-year record high and gas prices high in massachusetts and people worrying about home heating oil
9:26 am
perhaps this winter, why vote democrat? what's the case with regards to inflation in the economy that voters should pull the lever for a democrat? >> well, first of all, kevin mccarthy and his crew should not count their chickens before they hatch. polls are one thing, elections are another. we've seen in alaska and democrats have been winning and democrat issues have been winning in close elections and i expect that trend to continue. joe biden has helped steward an immensely powerful economic recovery from the depth of covid. the u.s. economy has grown faster than china's for the first time in my lifetime. and you're right. they'll see $500 in home heating bills and we'll make progress. gas prices down from the peak in summertime and democrats are investing in clean energy independence so we're no longer subject to the country to
9:27 am
global energy shocks from the middle east and russia. republicans, meanwhile, have been protecting big oil's outrageous and historic profits instead of trying to invest in clean energy independence and the progress is going to continue. in january, america's seniors are going to see their medicare go down and social security checks up. if the republican take the gavel the only thing they've made clear about their plans they want to undo that intention. griff: we shall see. congressman before i run out of time, do want to get on another issue with you. it caught my eye that you're critical of a letter put out by some of your democratic colleagues suggesting that maybe we should be rethinking support for ukraine. of course, minority leader kevin mccarthy indicated that he may not want to send a blank check. but you say we should support ukraine going forward.
9:28 am
why? >> president biden has led in a successful three-part strategy regarding the war in ukraine. first, we support ukrainians fighting on the front lines of the free world with military and economic aid. second, we sanctioned the kremlin to try to asphyxiate their war machine with commercial and energy sanctions and third through the n.a.t.o. and east asian alliances to isolate russia on the world stage. this strategy is working. ukraine is on the march. now is not the time to blink or pull back. now is the time to help ukrainians to take kherson and to stand with our ally against this illegal and unprovoked war. griff: the battle of kherson very, very important in this larger effort. congressman jake auchincloss, thank you for your time. >> good to be here. >> tomorrow on fox news sunday, shanann bream will have exclusive interviews with rnc chairwoman, ronna mcdonnell and
9:29 am
senator chris coons. check for your local time and channel and huey -- howie kurtz will look at the coverage of the fetterman-oz debate. that's here on the fox news channel. stay tuned. jacqui: elon musk is now in control of twitter and many are wondering if this will mean the return of some of the platforms more famously banned figures, such as former president donald trump. fox business correspondent kelly o'grady. >> he's wasted no time in making major changes and investigating shadow banning, and they're looking at the head of a team responsible for removing former president donald trump. this is how she framed content
9:30 am
moderation policies in 2019. >> i personally, and this is my job to return the policy team. i believe everyone has a voice and should be able to use it and i want them to be able to use it online. where we draw a line is when people use their voice and use their platform to abuse and harass other people. >> but that lack of transparency on the line is behind musk's quest to turn twitter into a new town square and quote, twitter will be forming a moderation council with widely universal points and none with happen before the council convenes. people are questioning the takeover. and general motors says it's temporarily paused, and some critics of concern that they'll let trump back onment trump says i'm staying on truth, i like it better.
9:31 am
i like elon, but i'm staying on truth. it's quickly becoming a philosophical debate and what role social media plays, and. >> thank you, griff. griff: and much more coverage ahead. including the race for governor in deep blue new york as president obama lends a helping hand on the campaign trail in michigan. we'll be right back. every year we try to exercise more, to be more social, to just relax. and eating healthy every single meal? if only it was this easy for us.
9:32 am
9:33 am
9:34 am
9:35 am
>> with less than two weeks to go until the highly anticipated midterm elections, we're tracking tight races across the country. for the latest developments, we've got coverage with alexis mcadams and lucas tomlinson at the white house. lucas, start with you. what's the latest? >> and president biden's jen psaki said if the midterms are
9:36 am
referendums on the president, democrats would lose. >> it's not a joke, let's be clear, this election is not a referendum, it's a choice, a choice between two vastly different visions of america. >> and the president called the attack on nancy pelosi's husband despicable and lashed out on oil company while making the following claim. >> the most common price for gasoline across america now is $3.29 a gallon. back in june the most common price was over $5 a gallon. we need to keep making progress by having energy companies bring down the cost of a gallon of gas to reflect what they pay for a barrel of oil. >> it was just 24 hours ago, jacqui, you were here reporting biden in a different speech claiming the average was 3.39. last night in philadelphia
9:37 am
biden said gas is lower, 3.29. according to triple-a the average price of a gallon of regular gasoline is higher, now 3.76. that's about 60% higher than when biden took office. here is senator ron johnson on foxx and friends earlier. >> because they can't spin the record. 40-year high inflation, record gas prices purposely driven to force everybody in electric vehicles that we don't have the rare earth minerals to even produce. skyrocketing crime, open border, a flood of deadly drugs. >> in 19 # 81 george h.w. bush had the high rating after the gulf war and then the next year he lost. griff: in new york, the contentious governor's race, they're rolling out big names,
9:38 am
but crime is an issue for voters. alexis mcadams is in new york with the latest. >> hey, griff, today is the first day of early voting here in new york and this morning, governor kathy hochul hitting the polls herself. the race is closer than expected in such a deep blue state. the quinnipiac poll shows that governor hochul with only a four-point lead. and crime is a hot topic. and zeldin blamed the crime. >> they want the boldness and understanding that this can happen for anyone. whether it's them, happen to any other people in their lives. they want to see d.a.'s enforcing the law and law enforcement to be supported and they want to roll back pro criminal roles like cashless bail. >> the governor says she's running like an underdog as her lead continues to dwindle, but she's energized by the polls.
9:39 am
hochul talked to our local fox affiliate in new york and answered several questions about her new crime fighting initiative and a controversial comment she made in the debate when she said she didn't understand why crime was so important to her opponent. >> that doesn't mean that i don't think that crime is important. theys a mischaracterization, there's a lot of fear out there. >> both candidates are rolling out big political names to help out on the campaign trail. including former president barack obama who will be featured in a new radio ad for governor hochul. griff: alexis mcadams covering things in the empire state. jacqui. jacqui: meanwhile in nevada a close race between democratic senator catherine cortez masto and her republican challenger. and two small business owners join us now who give their takes on these two candidates.
9:40 am
>> steve, owner of 3-d keepsake image, image. and you are a supporter of catherine cortez masto. >> i want to start with inflation, because this race is a tossup and nevada is facing tougher inflation than elsewhere in the country. if we bring up on the screen. there in nevada you've got about 16% inflation, which is almost double what i think we have nationally. food is way up. shelter is way up. transportation costs, energy across the board. these are challenges for small business owners like yourselves. vanessa, i want to start with you, you're a supporter of the incumbent. and senator cortez masto has been focusing on other issues
9:41 am
as much as inflation, but it looks like because this race is a tossup that some of the g.o.p. messaging on the economy has started to sink in. do you think that your conditions are going to get any better when it comes to the economy if she maintains her seat? >> absolutely. she's been working and she passed the legislation to reduce the inflation and i'm pretty sure it will be a progress on that. jacqui: steve, your answer to that. i know you have a different view. explain to me why. >> well, jacqui, i don't think that particular inflation act is truly going to reduce inflation. i think it's only going to add to inflation. there's really nothing in that act that is going to reduce inflation. the really only measures in there that, for example, for an
9:42 am
individual like myself, who is on medicare, are going to take effect out in, i believe, the year 2025 when they're going to implement reduction of our price controls on medications and medicare, and i actually feel that might even cause issues with price controls on drugs that could present issues like we had when we put price controls on gas back in the 19 1970's. jacqui: vanessa, to his point, some of the provisions in the inflation reduction act don't take effect for a couple of years. the president has even been trying to argue that point to some of, you know, his critics or people who are unhappy with the progress that the democrats have been able to make, saying, look, we've done a lot, but you might not feel it right away. do you think that what
9:43 am
democrats have done so far is enough? >> well, what i think is -- what matter for this election is what -- who cares about our community. our senator cortez masto for my business, for my family and for the people hard working here in las vegas. i believe in her. i believe what she's doing for our community and i trust what is her job in the senate. jacqui: steve, i want to give you a quick last word. almost out of time if you want to answer that question, too. >> sure. well, despite her indicating in her ads and that, senator masto has not supported small businesses. you have to look at her voting record. if you look back in 2017 and 18, she opposed small business tax relief.
9:44 am
if you look back in 2020, she supported small business mandates that included paid leave for employees. jacqui: okay. >> and this year is a very critical year upcoming because small business-- >> i've got to interrupt you. i'm sorry, we're almost out of time about to go to a hard break. thank you both for being with us. appreciate your time. we'll be right back. and i want e world. for years, i thought my t.e.d was beyond help... ...but then i asked my doctor about tepezza.
