1:12 pm
every single weekend for the democratic strategists say their success in the midterms hinges largely on strong voter turnout part former president barack obama in high demand in the closing stretch of the campaign. campaign this weekend to try to help avoid a potential republican red wave according to some. this despite his disappointing track record with midterms particular back in 2010 november that? republicans gained a 70 congressional seats. >> i am not recommending for every future president they take like i did last night. i'm sure there are easier ways to learn these lessons. >> shellacking remember that? susan chief congressional correspondent for the washington examiner joins us numbered while the former president work has to magic you think susan? or has it faded and is it too late? >> much younger president obama in that clip. that is a great question. it is a midterm election for president biden. so that is the governing rule
1:13 pm
hear the president and power does not in the midterm elections for that's part of the reasons why obama got that shellacking back in 2010. they ask a really great question, cannot translate? can obama's enduring popular and he really is pretty much the most popular party leader right now. even more popular than president biden, can that translates into a win for democrats in this midterm election we arty know we been talking about this for weeks now, the red wave. the polls showing republican candidates closing the gap is key swing states leading in some of those places. it's looking tougher and tougher for democrats with the economy not really improving much. in that little bump the democrats are enjoying over the summer, fizzling out a little bit now as we head into the home stretch. that is why you bring in obama for there not a lot of undecided voters left too. so the strategy is for democrats, get the boat out.
1:14 pm
how you do that? you bring your stars out on the campaign trail. talk to voters. you tell them look, as president obama saying a big choice. you've got to get out there and vote. it's really vital right now to get people excited pete who is the candidate? who is the person's best at doing that right now? it's going to be president obama and not president biden. that's really the interesting storyline here. eric: you talk about the approval rate and the shellacking. look at the approval rating of president biden will compare to present obama at the time back in 2010 during that shellacking. look, it's got the numbers right here we can put them up, there they are. take a look at 2010 see that? 41% approval rating while president biden is a 1% lower than that. if they got a shellacking in 2010 and present obama was 1% more popular for approval rating where they see in those numbers
1:15 pm
would you show? >> go back to 2006 and thing happen there. democrats swept in on the big wave and those midterm elections in 2006. it sure looks like that is what is going to happen. and with president biden, interesting late so closely tied to the economy. when you look at the polls were the more interesting factors years who they are blaming. things are a lot worse now economically that is the problem. people go to the polls or think about their trip to the grocery store on the way. the thinking about when they had to fill up their gas tank last. those are really strong feelings for voters to have when they vote. when they go to the polls they think about those kitchen table things that are so important to them. that can take precedence even over other pressing issues that we see in the polls. with democracy and abortion all those things be. >> the january 6 attack on our democracy. the undermining, the election lies we've seen that but let's take a look liber looking right now this is wilmington where the
1:16 pm
president is showing up to vote with his daughter natalie. granddaughter i'm sorry. the race is in delaware the top one is the at large congressional seats. he'll be voting for the at-large congressional seat and state senate and local races as they vote. you mentioned just now the democrats also relying on the issue of abortion. how much of the false claims of the election what we have a scene with happened and the potential political violence? the horrific attack on paul pelosi? police say they don't know the exact motive for that but there are fears that its increasing division and political violence in this country that we have seen against elect and elected officials already pay. >> a place to each party's base. their people on the right to feel they are concerned about election laws and election integrity and election fraud but people left think about
1:17 pm
january 6 and are worried about that. so who do we really focus on customer at the independents relook at the independent voters of the persuadable's they're really worried about the economy, inflation and other things for even more so than abortion which i will say that there are wins with democrats that are not expected, look to the abortion issue. i think republicans are underestimating suburban women voters and independents on how big a deal abortion may play because it's not just abortion they look at an overall reproductive rights that's a factor i think republicans are playing down a little bit at this last minute. i think that's still going to be an important factor even more so than these threats to democracy even given what just happened horrifically with paul pelosi on friday. these things when you order them, people think about them and they go to the polls is going to be the economy, inflation, gas and abortions going to be important. >> we will be waiting for and 72 hours or so now we will see.
1:18 pm
there is voting folks can early vote in many places in this country. susan always good to see you congressional correspondent of the washington examiner. >> thanks a lot. >> will do and after monday morning quarterbacking next week. >> great with the washington times now. >> the washington times i'm sorry. thank you. before speaking elections there's a big bill later tonight on 10:00 p.m. the big midterm show tonight 10:00 p.m. eastern will have all the information on the latest races and catch up on everything. we fight eric thank you played there is tragedy in south korea. nearly 150 people are dead and sadly the death toll continues to rise. this after a stampede during halloween festivities in the capitol city. from social and dense crowds packing a narrow alley downtown. local media reports about 100,000 people had flooded the streets for that very popular following events happening to today. let's go dick kitty logan she's tracking the story she's live now in london. >> yes arthel it seems as you say this crush again to happen when a large crowd of people tried to cram into a very narrow space. a lot of young people out and about trying to celebrate halloween. tragically this came down to this horrific scenes people trapped in the crush. this happened around 10:00 p.m. local time a lot of people out celebrating over 100,000 were thought to be in the central area of soul. many very young. emergency services were seen there rushing to the scene. hundreds of people suffered injuries and many of those who were injured are said to be in a very serious condition.

around the country jill is up in new hampshire right now. spending time making the case it's not a referendum. it is a choice. it's a fundamental choice. the choice between two very different visions for the country and that's what this is about you. >> is a reaction to russia? [inaudible] >> it is pure outrageous there is no reason for them to do t that. look for some rationale to say the reason they're doing something outrageous is because the west made them do it. there's no merit to what they are doing. that should be the end of it. >> are you confident the way it looks? >> yes i thought it was really good. i thought he was strong. fetterman is pennsylvania.
1:25 pm
fetterman is everything he appears to be. you know where he stands, he has the courage she has no reluctance to say what he thanks. he is my kind of guy and he's going to be fine. it's getting better and better. he had a stroke and he's recovering for thank you all very much. >> thank you everyone thank you prospered. >> there is president biden walking away excuse me present biden walking with his granddaughter natalie. a lot to say that we saw him in real time about the devastating stampede in seoul, south korea killing so many young people. then you also saw he learned about he said he's going to withhold from actually making official statement until he finds out more about that tragedy. and then we heard him answer the reporter's question about putin's decision to not renege on the agreement that he had with the un to let all of the grain from ukraine to be distributed around the world it is a much needed of course putin is claiming stepping out of this

to kill a congressman. we have seen some of these layouts over the past couple of months some fear will get worse. meanwhile, arthel crime in the economy voters in the midterms a humanitarian crisis at the southern border, that also continues. customs and border protection reports a record of nearly 2.4 million illegal immigrants have been caught at the southern border for the fiscal year that ended last month. nate foy live in eagle pass, texas with what's going on today. shane h. >> but another group of over 200 migrants cross the border illegally into normandy, texas you mentioned fiscal year 2022 migrant encounters with border patrol. also the same fiscal year almost 600,000 known god always many of those by way of human smuggling. deputies take a look at this first video 6:30 8:00 a.m. this

service special agent charles moreno. earlier, some tony valdes was on with nate foy insanely drug cartels are flying people to their destination basically bypassing the border. so not politically but logistically how can the drug cartels get away with this? >> they should not be able to get away with it legally. and they have a lot of money. more money than they have ever had, arthel in the history of the cartel based on human trafficking and drug trades. a lot more resources than in the past. there poverty with impunity based on the fact this administration disdains any type of enforcement pain but we are seeing here the policies of this administration undercut every national security program, policy and agency that is been put in place since the attacks of 911. you have u.s. agencies that are
1:31 pm
tasked with cracking down on the cartels that are being undercut by the ministration of this country. arthel: if you can expound on that. charles is pretty strong what you are saying. expound on that. how is that the policies of this administration? actions or lack thereof seemed to be undercutting all the policies you are saying that were working since 9/11. they are potentially dismantling that, how also expand on that for me? >> us look at the first thing. the administration just submitted their national security strategy this month. almost two years into their administration. that should tell voters the administration with respect to national security strategy and policies has been operating without a net. they do not know what they are doing brevets but we have seen the results not just of the southwest border that we have seen but also around the country including places like afghanistan. we don't have a strategy outlining what the goals and the ends and the memes are on how to
1:32 pm
carry out your goals then you are going to fail. we see this with this administration over and over and over again. let's look at the drug enforcement agency. arthel: fully jump in for a second charles i have some things i want to do here with you while i have you heard fiscal year 2022 were talking about july 1, 2021 through june 30, 2022. ninety-eight migrants on it terror watch list caught at the border thankfully they were caught. how are they getting that far? they are on a terror watch list. >> we are intercepting people right at our border which means there is no larger cohesive strategy with all of the regions in which these migrants are originating from. we have seen almost six 100% increase of what's known as special interest of migrants originating from countries where there is a known terrorist operations occurring in those countries. so there's a lot of concerns here, arthel. it's not being tackled because
1:33 pm
of the false and narrative put forth by the administration is at the border is secure. and the other of false narrative a false choice if you will being put out by the administration is that it is either immigration reform or border security. not that you can have both. it's an extremely dangerous game to play the administration is doing here. they're putting the american public at great risk. they are doing the same to migrants but as far as terrorism, that has always been our number one concern with respect to our immigration and border security programs. the fact the administration has pretty much erased our borders as a country, they are definitely going to be exploited by terrorist organizations. we still have gotten in under god always how many have made it
1:34 pm
into the country? >> charles, when you look at the dealbreaker issue deciding midterm votes, according to a fox news bullet is abortion with with 15% of republicans think abortion is a dealbreaker. at the bottom of list 12% of republicans polled say border security is a dealbreaker. none of democrats polls cited border security as a dealbreaker. so i ask you in closing, why should americans of all political stripes care about border security? parks all speak to democratic voters right now pretty better wake up matter where you live in the united states are already seeing crime going up and the violence you are seeing migrants come to your communities. your communities have no plan, do not have the resources pretty going to see schools impacted, crime impacted, hospitals impacted. you are going to see in effect to the areas in which you live.
1:35 pm
and so wake up, understand the threat environment in which we live. understand those that wish to do this country harm will exploit our borders on the weak policies of this administration. so i urge everybody to reconsider what is being prioritized as we go to the polls ten days from now. >> charles marino thank you very much for joining us. >> thanks arthel. >> we have to ask ourselves if i have to ask myself are the people in philadelphia truly free today? fully free? are they free or i'll were they prisoners within their own homes or their neighborhoods? we know the policies of the current philadelphia district attorney are directly correlated to the breakdown of law and order. sue for leader of the republicans in the pennsylvania house. moving to try to impeach philadelphia district attorney.

law enforcement officer and the biggest city in our state. >> the city for the gun violence in philadelphia just been so shocking. in all of these neighborhoods right down there in center city. right next to city hall. what is seen not doing that you think he should do to better enforce the law? >> just as a simple example, he does not prosecute a lot of petty theft. while that seems like a relatively low level crime and fortunately it is resulting in larger businesses leaving our city and therefore jobs living our city. for example walmart has decided to close multiple locations and reduce the number of hours they are open. announced the closure we also have overtime at starbucks, cvs, walgreens, and many of those large retail type facilities are leaving our city. we cannot afford to have that occur any longer. along with all the homicides that have been occurring. we just have a district attorney
1:38 pm
who does not want to enforce the laws of our commonwealth. >> what does that judge the quality of life? in new york city mayor rudy giuliani started the broken window theory were these small infractions can infect the larger crimes. that's the only way under the giuliani administration they were able to break crime down so well. >> yes the broken window effect is a very real thing. here in philadelphia just over the past couple of weeks we have seen a priest to get carjacked i'm sorry it not carjacked a wheelchair was stolen from him right out of him trying to get it out of the back of his car. we've had three squad of police officers shot. at a police commission is trying to basically address the issue in some ways. but she is fed up. every time these offices are out of the street arresting people's crime is gone up they have been arresting more and more people who have committed these crimes. at unfortunately prosecutions are going down and convictions are going down because of a

district attorney who does not want to do his job. eric: finally in the time we have left what type of policy specifically do you think should be enacted in order to try to stem this increase in crime? >> will look, no matter what laws we put into effect as a general assembly what has to happen is the enforcement of those laws. police officers are willing to do their job we need prosecutors were willing to their job as well. but unfortunately what we have seen his district attorney larry krasner. we have heard it from pa supreme court justice who is a democrat actually expressed to us which i determined to be the misbehavior in office that he has conducted himself in and that's why drop the articles of impeachment he is not complying with our laws. the pa supreme court basically told us specifically he cannot believe larry krasner would actually intentionally mislead a jury, withhold evidence and deny
