may 5 at just nine days until americans go to the polls and a vote that will decide the balance of power in congress. and the governors of several states. candidates on both sides the i owe hitting the campaign trail hard this weekend. hello everyone i am arthel neville. hi erica. so far hi arthel hi everyone thank you for joining us i'm eric shumpert florida governor desantis was in new york yesterday campaigning last night was a republican gubernatorial candidate lee zeldin for their on long island and man oh man was at a rally. look like a presidential campaign last night.
1:01 pm
as mr. selden is nipping at the heels of democratic governor kathy hochul. we will speak with congressman selden about his campaign in just a few moments. meanwhile in georgia republican herschel walker is challenging san raphael warnock. and firing back at comments by former president obama. we've got a tight senate race in pennsylvania or dr. oz has narrowed the polling gap with democrat lieutenant governor john fetterman. eric: let's start with alexis mcadams was a wrap up of the heated campaigns, alexis. >> hi arthel. both candidates are hoping the extra help on the campaign trail is going to give them the help they need to come out on top. less than 40 governor desantis during congressman elite selden at a rally on long island sprayed the well-known republican leader hyped up that large crowded. telling voters zelda and is the guide to to turn new york around. >> you need someone to go in there and clean house in albini
1:02 pm
and lee is the guy to do that. think about responsiveness of government and having a leader that can actually get things done. >> the governor kathy hochul's campaign pulling and own names for support. this. >> on november 8, there is an election for governor in new york and the stakes could not be any higher. my friend governor kathy hochul is the best person for the job hands down. >> prime is the hot topic. as selden says he will declare a state wide crime crisis on day one. i crime plant of her own talking about the violence on new york city subways. but she had to address a controversial comment she made during the debate when she said she did not understand why crime is so important to her opponent. >> it did not mean i didn't say crime was important that the mischaracterization crime is very important people are concerned about it there's a lot of fear out there for. >> early voting is now underway in new york for governor helpful
1:03 pm
right now only has a four-point lead over zeldin according to the latest poll. >> all right alexis mcadam thank you. >> early voting is in its in new york state. there governor kathy uncle let her republican challenger lee zeldin by 24 points in one poll. now that lead is down to single digits if that much. good except pointed out to her handling of rising crime, quality of life in the empire state tax burden she has said she's focusing on crime with the new surge in police and the fear of crime. is that enough and why has mr. zeldin close the gap? we are going to ask you know republican congressman gubernatorial candidate lien zeldin joins us. the first mr. zelle than we do want to mention we have a chapter governor hochul's office multiple times to inviter on our newscast permit not heard back from them as she is welcome anytime. so it new york state has not elected a republican state wide generation, 20 years.
1:04 pm
why do you think potential you could shatter that on november 8? >> because the state is clearly at a crossroads. this is not just republican versus democrat. we are getting support from democrats, independents were unhappy with the direction of new york city. with the direction of the state. this is a concern regardless of what party you belong to what you want feel safe on your streets and on your subways for new yorkers or hitting a breaking points. the state leads the entire country and the person sitting in the governor's seat right now was not elected governor she was elected lieutenant governor. she is filling the remainder of someone else's term. she does not understand a preacher articulate why it is we would lead the entire country and population loss. when you see pro- criminal laws are getting past and not rollback like cashless bail, you have district attorneys refusing to enforce the law and letting violent criminals run free like what you see with the manhattan
1:05 pm
d.a. allen and. law enforcement is not being supported the way that it sh should. you are not getting the courageous leadership instead of getting lectured to there's nothing to see here, just look away. new yorkers are tired of being talked down too. they want to feel like they are in charge of the government again for the wentzville proud of the government again. they realize in order to get the change they want regardless of republican, democrat, independent have to go in your direction we feel really good where this is heading. all the momentum all the energy all the itches on her side. yes she did rally a short while a little while ago. our rally wesley had many thousands of people more than her events that had dozens of people produced so much more excitement and enthusiasm. by the way just came from a rally in midwood. from the people who at this rally, they were almost one 100%
1:06 pm
democrat. and there were hundreds of people at our rally for our r race. it is a good sign and there is this much support come from the other side of the aisle. and i went to work with everyone to be able to move this date forward. see for you mentioned that that someone else andrew cuomo but maybe she's got some of that his shadow over her. you mentioned crime in some of the issues democrats have been focusing on a lot of social issues abortion rights, the thrush towards democracy for example. what why do you think some of the issues and not gain traction of what you been focusing on the republicans and focusing on in terms of the quality of life? >> so when people ask us as candidates what are the most important issues of this race, the answer is not based off of what the candidate once the top issues to be. it's based on what the people want the top issues to be. and when i got into this race a year end a half ago, people were
1:07 pm
talking about their breaking point their future for them for their family. in new york they're talking about their attacks on freedom of the equality of her kids education. now fast forward a year end a half ago with nine days to go, the top issues are still the same as they were back then. in my campaign i've been focusing on the issues that new yorkers say they want me focused on it. the other side is trying to change the topic and talk about other issues which shows how disconnected they are. at the debate a few days ago when i was talking about hey, cap the focal were now through multiple questions about crime in your still not spoken about the whole lock up the criminal aspect of fighting crime, which can take it as a hint of a clue. she should have felt i was helping her instead she goes after me saying i don't think why that is so important to you. when she says that it's really a comment to all new yorkers who care about fighting crime. she does not understand why this is so important to anyone out there. i went to be the governor for
1:08 pm
all new yorkers. and while she says i'm no longer a new yorker and demands i get on a bus and moved to florida. so the contrast here of our approach, it really has shown just how out of touch she is with these issues and how to govern and how totally in tune we are to what new yorkers expect investing what they want to hear from us. that is why we are talk about fighting crime and firing alvin bragg. the first they were in office they say he's going to be removed in declaring a crime emergency and suspending cashless bail and advocating for the reversal of the states and ban on the safe extraction of natural gas. we just keep talking about the issues that voters have been begging for the type of leadership they're not getting for years for. >> alvin bragg the progressive district attorney of manhattan you have valid under new york state law apparently no impeachment, no recall like in other cities like san francisco. you mentioned bail reform for your former prosecutor in the
1:09 pm
military. prosecutors tell me they're going to have to throw cases out because of what's known as discovery form. no one talks about that. they do not have the resources under that lot means that letting chronicles entering criminals and accused criminals out because they do not have the resources under those reform laws. >> eric, that is such an important point too. we talk about declaring a crime emergency when suspending loss we have been referencing five laws. one of the five is what you just mentioned. some discovery law changes made a few years ago. what we are finding is the handcuffs are getting thrown on the criminal justice system instead of throwing the handcuffs on the criminals. it is about suspending cashless bail, less is more release parolees early were causing issues thing a lot of teenagers being used to commit crime after crime after crime. the halt act which went into effect april 1 of this year. we are seeing skyrocketing
1:10 pm
numbers of assaults and correctional officers and other prison staff and even inmates. as you pointed out to your question a lot of people don't understand that even talking to the d.a. the discovery law changes have caused a headache as well. by us suspending these five laws it forces the state legislature to come to the table to work on a permanent fixes for the state legislature should be willing to do that on their own. just understanding and respecting the will of the people. before they said they will not do that. finally, florida governor desantis on long island tomorrow in europe and westchester which is a suburb of new york city just north of the bronx. will be campaigning on virginia governor glenn duncan. seems like virginia and westchester very similar areas, suburbs influential largely affluent in many ways. the virginia governor with you what you trying to show tom tomorrow? we are looking forward to having
1:11 pm
virginia governor glenn young came in for the support policies of the governor in westchester and some of those surrounding counties. the focus of governor yankton education policies specifically very much in tune with the policy feedback i get from parents and westchester and surrounding areas. i believe parents should have a fundamental right that they have a fundamental right to control the upbringing of their child but all of our students should have access to quality of education that they are not getting into many places across the states on so many different fronts specifically on education. but in other regards as well. governor youngkin has a strong base of support that is developing inside of westchester and some of those surrounding counties. we are looking for to having him tomorrow. if our congressman elite zeldin and is a republican candidate for new york others known as the state senator from suffolk
