pollsters of every stripe, we're worried about rising costs. >> democrats can't run on anything they've dub. people don't like what they've done. they don't like high inflation. >> we cannot afford another two years of democratic control in washington. we have to turn the corner and set ourselves up for a bigger victory in 2024. >> ashley live in studio with more, ash? >> inflation and the economy are the dominating concerns for most americans heading to the midterms next week. that's according to the latest abc poll. 28% of voters say the economy will be the single most important issue when it comes to casting a ballot for congress. the next is inflation at 22%, apportion with trailing behind, 16%, and then climate change coming in last at 5%. however, when white house press secretary corinne jeanpierre was pressed on inflation being a big worry about voters, there is her response. >> when the president walked into this add administration, the economy was in ruins,
1:02 am
absolute ruins. unemployment was 6.4%. now because of the president's policies, unemployment is 3.5%, historic low in 50 years. we haven't seen that in 50 years. >> republicans agreeing the cost of living is still no. 1 in most americans' eyes pointing blame at the biden administration. >> these families are struggling from the price of gas to the grocery stores and now halloween is coming. now with this biden inflation, candy is up 13%. so, people want to see a real change. that's exactly what we pro mote. we have a plan out there with a commitment to america. we're clear what we'll do if we're trusted in feting the majority. >> a senate seat is up for grabs in the swing state of nevada but inflation isn't slowing down there either. >> it's close. we're a tough swing state. but i think a lot of it is because in nevada, inflation was already 16%. our gas prices have hit $6.
1:03 am
and so all of these issues that are kind of coming late, we've been experiencing. >> the midterm debate around prices comes as another rate hike is expected from the fed this week. an increase of .75% would bring the central bank's benchmark rate to nearly 4%, the biggest consecutive hike increasing concerns among experts. we should know more about this when the fed decision comes in. guys, back to you. >> mark levine explained how democrats are failing on the economy as well as education. listen to this. >> we're told, parents, you butt out. we, the educational bureaucrats, we the democrat party unions, we will take care of your children. and what's happened? scores have dropped like lead balloons. they are destroying our kids in the classroom. we support the classroom. they use it as an indocketry nation mill. what else?
1:04 am
they spend like drunken marches on the democrat side. all of the spending. $10 trillion so far including the budget. and they said they didn't get everything they wanted. build back better was only a little piece of the action. they've driven down the value of the dollar. they've driven down the value of social security checks and pension checks. they are destroying your iras and 401(k)s. the stock market is dropping. it's dropping dead. look at gas prices, through the roof! through the roof! they have sabotaged energy independence. we support sound money. we do not want to support this kind of profligate debt and spending. we do. we support the dollar, they don't. >> democrats fail to understand the economic consequences on their assault on american fossil fuels. they think the climate is a crisis and banishing oil and gas is urgent which means higher
1:05 am
prices which they blame on the very companies they want to go out of business. economic logic won't persuade them, but maybe a rout at the ballot box will. republican candidates are banking on support from women to secure their seats on the hill. >> eileen is the president of the national federation of republican women who has been meeting with women across the country to find out what issues are pushing them to get out and vote. she joins us now. you've done the work and talked to women across the country. what are they telling you? >> well, the women -- our army of 65,000 women nation-wide out there knocking on doors and make phone calls. we are finding that voters and women in particular care about inflation. the prices of food and everything else is putting a strain on families. gas prices. their 401(k)s, we hear that a lot. that comes up. they've been wiped out, crime,
1:06 am
and what the future is going to look like for the children with the march to socialism by the left. all of this tells us that the left is really out of touch with the women today. because we're out there on the trail. we're talking with real people. and this is what we're telling us. i really think that the democrats have made a strategic error in counting on row v. wade to propel them to victory in the midterms. >> what are women telling you about their emphasis on the abortion issue. if you hear democrats explain it, it's no. 1, 2, and 3. that's all people are talking about. the real women they're talking to, what do they say? >> they're talking about the kitchen table issues. that is what is concerning them. the mama bears out there that are concerned about their children and their grandchildren's education. and like i said, they're investments, they're really concerned about their families and the situation that this inflation has had on them in the entire economy.
1:07 am
that's what's important to them. >> eileen, earlier this month, there was a "new york times" sienna college poll that showed a 32-point swing among independent women towards the gop. was that poll accurate? if so, what do you attribute that to? >> well, i think again, it's what -- what it comes down to with women, women in general, independent women or republican women, is that the kitchen table issues are important. and we're seeing that as well. i mean, look at tulsi gabbard, a democrat now stumping for republicans all over the country. you see examples of that. you see a lot of independent women who are going to step up and vote republican in the midterms. >> what are democrat women telling you? >> well, not really going to those doors very much. but, you know, i just basically what you hear on the news is they just keep -- they keep

>> celebrities are fleeing twitter following elon musk's take over while democrats rail against the deal saying the billionaire is not to be trusted despite his vow to promote free speech on the platform. >> hollywood is unsubscribing from twitter as the take of sends celebrities running from the social media platform. the space x billionaire took to the site to remind viewers of his position that my title is chief twit right there in the bio, no idea who the c oh, is. this comes as several celebrities make statements announcing departure under the new ownership. a singer saying, well up, it's been fun, twitter, i'm out. see you on the platforms, peeps, sorry, this one is not for me. shonda rhimes saying, not hanging around for whatever elon has planned, bye.
1:21 am
musk looks like running a platform that has a wide range of beliefs that can be debated in a healthy way without resorting to violence. democrats aren't buying. will be. >> now that elon runs twitter, do you trust him? >> no, i do not. i just don't think people should make money on passing on this stuff that's a bunch of lies. >> but podcast host joe rogan is praising musks' move arguing that policies promoting free speech should be celebrated. >> that's what elon wants to bring back to twitter is reasonable ex-egg change of ideas. i think we have a real problem with discourse -- particularly like discourse on twitter, right? like if you post something and someone posts something that opposes what you say and you're like -- you have to formulate -- some people don't want that. you are to silence the people who have opposing viewpoints and you have positive feedback from all of the people that agree with you. yes, i want to amply fie that.

the president -- quote, in 2020, 55 corporations made $40 billion and they paid 0 in federal taxes. my inflation reduction act puts an end to that. all of that is wrong. twitter's fact check saying out of the 55 corporations the tweet references, 14 earning greater than $1 billion and would be eligible under biden's tax law. biden signed the law with a 15% corporation tax for companies earning more than $1 billion a year. >> an open letter against penguin random house from amy comey barrett's book. but the employees are not calling for censorship, saying comey barrett is free to say what she wishes. in order to inflate the bottom line and truly stand behind the values it proudly espouses to hold. this is latest bit of outrage

targeting the supreme court in response to the reversal of roe versus wade. a pro life woman shown in a pro choice ad shared by democrats like hillary clinton say she was misrepresented. that's macy petty. briefly seen in the ad collapsing to the ground in tears outside of the supreme court when roe versus wade was announced on the summer with the words "sad" on the screen. those are tears of joy. and she writes, i thank the lord for this decision and opening my eyes of the evil of abortions. this is what brings me to tears. you have disrespected me as a woman and engaged member of society. good to know. >> interesting. we introduced you to the portland cafe owner. she's refusing to cave to the mob and her business is booming. check back with her next. >> another surge of haitian

a group of vandals destroyed a portland, oregon business in a protest. they smashed the cafe's windows before spray painting on the inside walls and the furniture. the owner said it was in retaliation against her plan to host a coffee with a cup event later that day. the owner and the shop are bouncing back with the help of the community. here with help is loretta guzman, the owner. great to see you again. it's awesome things are going well. how is the rehab of the building going? >> it's going good. it's a little slower than i'd like. but i'm getting there. got all of my walls repainted.
1:31 am
almost all of the fine paint everywhere clean up. still got to get a little bit more up and get ready to start bringing the furniture back in. and just making sure everything is super clean before we put it back in place. some of the artwork, i have to put new artwork up because some of the artwork is damaged. it's going good otherwise. >> are you able to open while you rebuild? >> yes. i have my -- i have a walkup window that i created in the pandemic. i've been using that all along. so i'm able to use that. but i still, you know, let people in to use the restroom. but there's just no indoor seating right now. hopefully i'll have my indoor seating back open i hope this week. instill haven't gotten the estimate on the windows or the time frame when the windows will be here. but that's what i'm looking forward to. >> what's been the response from the community? >> the community, it's been really good. people are really supportive to me and they're just like thank

1:33 am
but they go in there, they vandalize your place. did you think a simple event like that would lead to all of this? >> not in the past. but i mean after the past few years where everything is really bad for us here in portland, i thought i could have something happen and that's why i started to reach out to people in my community. hey, we -- will you guys come and support me. they were like, yes. and they still did come support me and they still are to this day. so, it's a good thing for me. it's not good that i'm not all the way -- i don't have my inside open but it's something i'm working on right now. and i still have the support of everybody. >> would you do it all again if you knew this could be the ramification? >> well, i knew that it was something that could happen to my -- you know, place in some type of form. i wasn't exactly sure what. but i would because people need it and people are wanting to

1:35 am
you said that. because if you look at the actual polling, exactly what you said is being borne out right now throughout the state of oregon. it is going to be so interesting to see what happens with the vote next tuesday, to see if your idea, what you think is going to be happening in portland comes true. loretta guzman, so happy you're getting back on your feet. wish it were a little faster like you said. but in due course, it will come back and your shob will be better than ever, thank you so much. >> yes, thank you. >> 35 minutes after the hour. new reports indicate the biden administration is considering sending a possible surge of haitian migrants to a third country or guantanamo bay. >> 1,000 of them were living in squalor under a bridge on president biden's watch. doug, good morning. >> the federal government is bracing for this huge influx of

haitian migrants. nbc news reporting that the white house national security council is asking the department of homeland security about the use of so-called lilly pad countries to help to take some of the migrants in, even considering the expansion of a holding center at guantanamo bay with concerns there could be a mass exodus from haiti by boat once fuel supplies become more readily available there. in the meantime, the federal government is still at odds with arizona over the state's use of stacked shipping containers you see there to close the border. the part of the interior department issued this statement -- the unauthorized placement of those containers violate federal law and is a trespass against the united states. that trespass is harming federal lands and resources and impeding reclamation's ability to perform it's mission. with midterm elections a week away, this is a potent issue in arizona's race for governor. >> we've got a real frightening

situation at the border. we do have an invasion. millions of people pouring across illegally. many of them do have criminal backgrounds. on day one, we're calling it what it is, an invasion. we have the right, in the u.s. constitution, article 1, section 10, we will invoke those powers and the state of arizona will take charge of the border. >> as far as the containers are concerned, many were put in place in august to close parts of the border near yuma. todd and carly. >> thank you. that possible surge of haitian migrants will remind everybody -- remember the images -- 15,000 haitian migrants living under the bridge in del rio. it was a problem back then, a year ago, history may be repeating itself. >> what did the biden administration do? blamed a bunch of people on horseback doing their job calling them whippers. >> there is that. >> democrats know what's at stake. they're sending former president obama rallies for candidates
