the white house is saying is that the government will begin dictating a required level of oil and gas investment designed to increase production via the tax code while simultaneously phasing out oil and gas investment via another part of the tax code. chest pounding against a particular industry and its millions of workers is a weak closing argument for mid-terms that are not going your way. this from the rnc, quote, joe biden is lying since his first day in office he has attacked american energy with the help of congressional democrats. americans know that under biden and democrats, gas prices are higher, groceries are more expensive and real wages are down. jason, it's desperation. >> it is. so what joe biden is saying is that he is going to raise taxes. when you raise taxes, guess what? you are saying it will become more expensive. that's not the prescription of how to solve our energy problem.

winter for too many americans. the cost of heating oil at an average of $5.70 a gallon last month. that's up 70% from the same time last year. the northeast is so short on oil supplies, fuel oil, that it is being rationed. fox business correspondent is live in new jersey. >> families will be paying a lot more to heat their home this winter. you look at home heating oil as an example. if a family bought their year's worth of oil today they pay $2 thousand more than they would have last year. this is a discount home heating oil company and their prices you can see how much they've gone up in the past year from under $3 a gallon and today they're charging $5.40. part of it is a lack of inventory. the entire east coast is struggling to access home heating oil at a time when our

diesel supplies are at a very low level. right around a 25-day supply compared to our 40-day supply in reserve. they're concerned about meeting customer demand. >> the top concern is availability of product. years ago when we had a shortage of supply on the east coast here where most of the heating oil is used they would bring it in from europe. but now europe is using it all for their own use because of the gas shutdowns from russia. and now we don't have that ability to export from -- or import from europe to here. >> here is the thing. even if you don't use home heating oil expect costs to go up as the temperature drops. natural grade that services massachusetts and part of new york have been approved for a 64% increase in electricity costs for that winter. that higher cost goes into effect today.

place to 2022, murders up 32%, robbery up 32%, felony assault, burglary, grand larceny both up double digits. auto thefts up 148%. all major crimes just in new york a more than 32% gain. it's the same problem in places like philadelphia with larry crassner as the d.a. correct me if i'm wrong in chicago they are actually implementing this exact type of bail reform as we speak. >> dagen, reform that doesn't keep the public safe or doesn't consider victims of crime is not true reform. there are plenty of areas in the criminal justice system we can fix. it is not performing well. we're failing when we have a 60 to 70% repeat rate in this country. the answer isn't to eliminate prosecution and the ability of
