republican territory now, inflation polling as an important issue to voters in the buckeye state. and tonight both candidates will pitch solutions in a fox news town hall. mark meredith is live in columbus. the race in ohio is tightening, it could determine the balance of power in the senate at this point. >> sandra, you are right. it could. good afternoon to you. tonight during the town hall, voters will get a chance for the two men vying to be the state's next senator. we have seen here in ohio trend more conservative in recent elections but as you've been talking about, the race appears to be a toss-up. the race is essentially tied with both democrat congressman tim ryan as well as republican j.d. vance. both at 46% support. the numbers show vance has made up some ground in recent weeks because it was not that long ago that he was polling behind ryan and ryan had an advantage, which is notable, he has not been
10:05 am
getting some of the democratic pac money. and vance campaigned heavily on endorsement from former president trump, but trying to win voters over fed up with the d.c. establishment. >> three reasons are inflation, crime and the border. all three of those issues joe biden and tim ryan have taken the country in a negative direction that has harmed the state of ohio. >> tim ryan is not running as a traditional democrat. he's not campaigning with president biden or other high profile surrogates, instead to sell himself as an outsider, may be difficult because he's been in congress since 2003. on monday he won the endorsement of the columbus dispacht newspaper and editorial board saying ryan has focused the economic message on finding bipartisan solutions, stopping stupid political fights.

10:07 am
republican. to talk more about that, florida republican senator marco rubio. great to see you. let me put up on the screen where the race stands four and for governor desantis as well. you are leading val demings, 53-42%, and when you look at the numbers, and you think of the president going to south florida, all i can think he needs as much political heft as he can muster. a magic wand, and why is he going to florida anyway instead of some of the other battleground states? >> well, we welcome him coming to florida. for us a reminder what we have been telling people the entire campaign and that joe biden and the democrats control the white house, the house and the senate, for 22 months, and what they have produced for our country is inflation, run away immigration, crime problems around the country, and you know, obviously they have to answer for that. so if you want to leave these
10:08 am
people in choice of the government you welcome joe biden and want him to be here. in my view, reminds people of what a disaster they have been and reminds people as well that val demings, my opponent, has voted with nancy pelosi and the democratic leadership 100% of the time. that's why they want her in the senate and i think he's in florida because they don't want him in wisconsin, don't want him in pennsylvania, arizona, some of these other places and he has to go somewhere, it's embarrassing to have an incumbent president and no one wants them. >> john: he's going t accuse republicans of wanting to cut social security, medicare and medicaid, what he's doing, taking rick scott's plan which last count maybe had support of a few people on the republican side of congress, but was not going anywhere, and saying this is the republican plan. is it your intention to cut social security, medicare and medicaid? >> no, of course not.
10:09 am
and never has been. my parents depended on those programs, those are important programs, but like their boilerplate attack, they roll it out every two years, four years, they never heard me talk about doing that. this is what you do, you have to say something. he can't run and say vote for val demings and charlie crist because they are going to lower inflation, he can't say they are going to bring illegal immigration under control or vote for them because they will strengthen america's standing in the world, they have to say something while he's here and do what they do for me, reminding florida voters that that's the side that's in charge of everything now and the country is headed in the wrong direction and if the people in power will destroy the greatest country in the history of the world. >> john: the claim the president is making, he seems to keep going to the well, not sure why. there is some thought that

miami-dade county, long been a bastion of democratic support, is shifting that it may even go republican this year. what he is going on in miami-dade county and in particular, among latino voters. >> hispanic voters happen to be working class voters and small business owners. that's what they are, and that's who they are. they happen to be hispanic but vote like small business owners and don't want schools indoctrinating their kids. and they vote like people, and venezuela, cuba, nicaragua, have seen firsthand what happens when marxism and socialism take root in the country, they don't want it in this country, they don't want to lose this country the way they lost their previous country, nation of birth. so it's a combination of those two things i think have pronounced themselves not just in south florida but the country. i'm not predicting us winning
10:11 am
miami-dade county, it's a great sign for republicans. >> john: your take on something, luke bryan gave a postponed concert and invite ron desantis on stage, he got dragged on stage, and people now say time to cancel luke bryan. what do you say to the reaction to this? >> twitter is fake, don't know how many are real reactions. and yes, got dragged on social media who don't like republicans or desantis. and it's ok to invite every democrat on stage, every celebrity is either democrat leaning or openly support democrats. a celebrity there today, at one of the rallies. they cannot tolerate dissent and don't want republicans to have anybody on their side.
10:12 am
i don't think luke bryan was taking a political position. i was in florida, just had a storm, the governor is in charge of raising the private money to help people damaged by the storm and he brings him on stage to talk about that. so i'm glad he did it, glad he's ignoring the noise around it, it's left wing loons who are going to criticize you any time you say anything nice or do anything nice around republicans, they want the total destruction of anything conservative and republican. >> senator marco rubio, watching your race very closely. see how it ends up a week from today. appreciate you coming with us. >> thank you. >> john: sandra, a lot more ahead as well, including don, in new hampshire, swears he is going to win tuesday. >> sandra: and in the northeast, how are you going to bring down inflation, expensive home heating season, we'll ask him about that. and ro khanna is joining us, and

byron york will give his forecast, how he sees things shaping up come election day. >> we'll talk to illinois sixth congressional district waging a fight for a seat that used to be held by republicans but held by a democrat for the last two cycles. see where that is going. >> sandra: and martha will join us with a preview of tonight coming up. all right. the border crisis turning violent, fox news obtains exclusive video showing a group of migrants illegally crossing into the united states forcing border patrol to use crowd control tactics after one of their agents was assaulted. >> john: president biden threatening to raise taxes on oil companies as punishment for the high prices at the pump. would the president's proposal restrict the oil and gas industry even further? our econ panel is here. >> it is going to kill them

speak in florida this afternoon he'll likely warn seniors an a republican controlled congress would cut social security, medicare and medicaid benefits, a claim even the left leaning "washington post" says is false, giving it four pinocchios. david and jackie standing by, but first peter doocy is live on the north lawn. what's the president's closing argument for floridians looking like. >> closing argument does not have any new ideas or proposals to address. number one issue, inflation.
10:19 am
instead president biden will talked to about republican proposals, the press secretary is telling us potus will highlight how he and democrats will strengthen social security and medicare, contrasting with congressional republicans who want to cut social security and medicare benefits. the president is not in any kind of a head to head match-up, so white house officials are picking one republican to embody the whole platform, and it is florida senator rick scott. >> what senator scott and others have made clear, they would like to see a vote in congress every five years to continue to sustain and continue to affirm social security and medicare. that means every five years debate whether to change or alter or cut medicare and social security. that's a big policy difference. >> there is a big difference between the republican proposals and the way the white house
10:20 am
officials are describing proposals. >> i'm going to fight like hell to make sure we preserve medicare and social security. >> do you support cutting social security payments to keep the program solvent. >> no, i don't one republican that does. >> republicans are saying one thing, democrats another thing about the same thing. the republican platform, and at this point in an election cycle, the president's most precious commodity is his time and white house officials told us a little while ago president biden is planning to use some of his time in the remaining days to travel to california's 49th district, the san diego area to campaign friday on behalf of congressman mike levin, john. >> john: he's doing some travelling, not sure why he's in florida, a lot of people are scratching their heads about that.
10:21 am
>> sandra: econ panel now, david, jackie, you are ready to go on this. you heard rick scott denying he ever called to cut social security. senator ron johnson of wisconsin said the same. listen. >> democrats are as divorced from reality as they are from the truth. they try out the same old lies, the republicans want to end social security, we want to put it on the chopping block. nothing could be further from the truth. we want to save social security. >> sandra: why is this not enough, in addition to the fact that "washington post" gives it four pinocchios, the claim that republicans want to do away with it. >> all the fact check people do. and fact check.org says specifically there is no proposal to bar retirees who have a pension and ira or a 401(k) from collecting social media benefits in either the commitment to america, the thing that came out a couple weeks ago, or the rsc proposed budget.
10:22 am
that was senator scott's thing. it's total disinformation. the fact the president is spreading disinformation based on a fabricated screen shot, folks should know in the sort of dirty tricks that happen in political seasons, there was a fabricated screen shot that purported to show one of these proposals cutting back on social security and saying if you have an ira or disabled veteran you shouldn't get benefit. fabricated, made up. the president is spreading disinformation. it's amazing they were going to have a misinformation board, this white house, when they are spreading disinformation. >> sandra: and we sent our brain room out this morning to find anything anywhere that any gop member might have said that even hinted at the possibility of that, and turned up nothing. jackie, some say it's a distraction effort on the part
10:23 am
of democrats who look at inflation that in large part voters see caused by big government spending, and the lack of anything to actually bring prices down. jen psaki said that democrats can't do much about the reality of inflation, listen to this. >> inflation, it's a global issue, it's happening around the world. i think there is not a lot democrats could have done to change that reality. what you are seeing people like barack obama and joe biden do is really try to make this about a choice and not a referendum on president biden. we know inflation is an issue, costs are too high. we have a better plan. give us a chance for more time. >> sandra: wouldn't the plan have to say what caused it in the first place? >> the plan stop spending and if they were to hold on to congress they would continue to spend. they have showed that's what they want to do and that contributed to the inflation. a lot of this is a distraction from the real issues and also
10:24 am
fear mongering. "washington examiner" talking about the social security issue and a democratic strategist said the fear of losing something is a great motivator to get to the polls. that's what they are doing on the social security front, the abortion front as well to distract from the big issues, inflation and the economy, crime, and the border. >> sandra: it would take a glacial change to bring them down. >> and not just spending money, it's encouraging production. inflation is too much money chasing too few goods. if we had more goods in the economy, more production, inflation would come down as well. >> sandra: larry summers, he's now talking about the president's plans to tax the big

oil companies, says this, i'm not sure they understand the argument, for windfall profit tax on energy companies if. if you redues profitability, you will discourage investment, the opposite of our objective. ok, think about that. the president is saying they are not going to bring the prices down, not their responsibility, they are private companies, profitability should be their goal, period. he wants to tax them saying if you are not going to bring down prices you are going to pay for it. >> he penalized them once and created the situationer in with respect to domestic production, cancelling of the extension of the keystone pipeline, that's why the companies are not reinvesting some profits. if you penalize them with more taxes because you are angry about the price of gas, it chips away at the fundamentals of the

system. that's not how capitalism works. when the companies saw oil companies, $25 a barrel and not profiting as much, they were not. now the market sets the case, oil is higher, we are dealing with a lot of different issues, the administration, they don't want to admit it and here we are. >> and there's an old saying in economics. if you want less of something you tax it more. the only disagreement, it's our objective to get more oil. i don't think that's the administration objective at all. i think it's less oil. that is their objective, to get us off of oil and we don't have the technology to do anything else. >> sandra: day one in office, biden canceled the keystone xl construction, rejoined the paris agreement and message to the big oil companies to not to invest their money and that needs to be said because that is the case. good to have you both here, seven days to election day. john. >> john: so they give it back to the shareholders instead. deadly gun violence marring

10:35 am
so not just gop advantage, but gop control. republicans gaining probably a number of seats to take them to 236. democrats probably ending up with 199 in the house. if republicans get that many seats, that's not the sort of margin the democrats have held for the last two years, that's a governing majority. >> decisive control. this is the last power ranking before the election. every one before this gave a slight chance of keeping control of the house. this one doesn't. that's gone, the best case scenario for democrats is to lose the house but have republicans win by a very, very small margin, like democrats have right now. if republicans, if there's a speaker, kevin mccarthy, if they have 235, 240 votes, that means you can lose some of your folks
10:36 am
and still pass bills. that's really, really important. >> looks as though republicans will take back control of the house. the senate, though, a different animal. still four toss-ups, but don in new hampshire is existing he's going to beat maggie, but if there is a red wave could that carry the senate races or pretty much insulated. >> you have to think it could. because the house power rankings are based on 435 house districts and if there are a good deal of them moving toward republicans, you have to think that would ultimately affect state races. but republican, it's a win pennsylvania or lose pennsylvania scenario. if they win pennsylvania, they keep that seat. and then chances in georgia, arizona, nevada, they have to pick up one of them, and they win control of the senate, provided they win like ohio and wisconsin and a few other things
10:37 am
like that. if they lose pennsylvania, that means they have to win two of those georgia, arizona, nevada seats, a tougher, tougher task. >> to the control room, i want to jump to call four number 4, 1 of the governor's races has shifted dramatically in the last few weeks, and that's the race in new york, where it's now lean democrat for kathy hochul, over the weekend accused the republicans of being master manipulators and data deniers, pushing the idea that crime is an issue, basically to deny reality. is this -- >> it's not going to work. lee zeldin, the outgoing republican congressman has run a tremendously good race and he is focused. he's actually been the victim, the target of criminal activity. a man actually attacked him when
10:38 am
he was on stage. and you can't make up an issue like crime. people in new york are afraid of crime because they see so many examples of it happening. that's also by the way exacerbated by the cameras in our world today. we see more crimes being committed than we ever saw, even when crime was at high levels in the past. but a politician simply cannot deny this, and that's why she has taken the race from solid democrat now to likely democrat. >> john: and there are democrats who say crime is worse in republican led states but rafael mangual did a very data driven essay to say the reason it's higher in some republican led states, there are democrat led states in the states where the crime is really, really bad. >> obviously new york being the big apple in new york. crime rate is significantly higher than it was, and by the
