quarters. profit so high it is hard to believe. >> kevin: ah, true nationwide average is $3.76, down from the summer's record high of $5 and a penny a gallon issue but it is also way up from where it was when biden took office when it was just $2.39 at conclusion of the trump administration. the white house wants to direct your focus toward how much better things are now than they were, republicans on capitol hill, don't believe the hype. this from rick scott. biden has shown he is capable and dangerously incompetent to move our country in the right direction. republicans will unleash save and reliable and affordable american energy by reversing course from democrat failed policy and do it on day one.
1:25 am
that is the ultimate sales pitch say republicans, you want high gas prices, soaring food cost and high heating cost, stay the course with democrats, if you want change, better vote for it on tuesday. >> i encourage everybody toic take their electric bill, their oil bill, their food bill into the voting booth with them and look at it because it is going to double in december, triple in january, we're going to have no natural gas left, we'll have blackouts, schools will be closed, people will be freezing. >> kevin: dire warnings there from the general, speaking of he's surged ahead of maggie hassan in polling in the battle for one of new hampshire's senate seats and energy may prove to be the tipping point in that race and many others. >> todd: public energy, kevin

1:27 am
it really hurts. cash flow is king. >> carley: cash flow is king, national average for gallon of diesel is their 5.31 this morning and average cost is $4.96 in south carolina, what does it normally cost to fill up a truck with dees and he will how much is it costing right now? >> well, the price about what it is, here $15 to $.20 more per gallon in next couple weeks, that adds to pain at the pump. most truckers have saddle tanks, fuel containers on the side of the truck 100 gallon a piece, maybe 200, that is 200 gallons, times $5 per gallon, that is gold at that point. >> carley: diesel powers the economy, if it is really expensive, what is the trickle-down effect of this?
1:28 am
>> there is no way any company can absorb cost increases like this and any business will not stay in business very long. the larger fleets are a little bit better position to deal with these conditions, smaller fleets and like 91% of the nation's truck fleet, companies have six or fewer trucks, we're talking about main street type businesses and it is a huge drain on them to keep up with costs. they try to pass them on, rarely able to at 100%. >> carley: what is causing the diesel shortage? >> combination of bad policy, but a lot of things are beyond our control. there is seasonal demands that peak, since 2007. diesel powers the whole industrial world and it will for sometime. we don't have the refining capacity, we haven't built a
1:29 am
refinery since 1977. you got a drought in the midwest, so shipping channels like the mississippi river are too low to have much velocity there, a pending railroad strike or potential for a railroad strike. you add those things together and plus bad policies which have tightened supply and that is what we're dealing with. >> carley: you bring up a good point talking about refineries, refineries, it is not we haven't built one since the '70s, they are shutting down and turning into biofuel facilities, it sounds like that would be good place to start with investment or this could be a long-term problem. we should, have to as a country, take a longer-term view, do everything we can, in the meantime, stick with what works until you can replace it and make sure that when you do replace it, it is scaleable.
1:30 am
nobody wants to be force fed any alternative technology or anything until they are done, so i think we put ourselves in this situation unnecessarily, refineries operating 100 to 102% and that is hot. put them in precarious situation, they could have a problem and shut down and then we really would have a problem. >> carley: just ahead of christmas, gifts could be more expensive and nobody wants to deal with that, thanks for joining us this morning, we appreciate it. >> ink thank you. >> latest on social media front, elon musk is stirring thingings up at twitter and says blue check marks will come at a cost, we have details on that. >> todd: will carley and i pay? ron desantis says president biden is upon hadding his campaign by bringing democrats message to florida. >> it is in kind contribution to

1:42 am
against biden in 2020. we have been systematically making gains in miami-dade county, the fact that the gop message is resonating with hispanic voters has been helpful, the other issue, democrats have abandoned hispanic voters. look at calling them latin x or saying they are like san antonio tacos or look at the fact biden was coddling over oil, the fact venezuela knowas and cubans get upset when they roll back the trump policies on cuba. policies matter to hispanics, they don't want to see their country become a socialist country, that message resonates with hispanics. >> todd: they care about the economy, the economy for all races including latinos.
