>> next stop on the diner show. >> i hope you join me on the radio. watch fox nation on the stream. >> stay within yourself. >> bill: good morning, hello 9:00 in new york. six days until america votes now. senate is anyone's game. new numbers have candidates fighting for every last vote and that will matter. good morning everybody. it's wednesday and i'm bill hemmer, hello. >> dana: i'm dana perino and this is "america's newsroom." feels like it is getting closer and democrats woke up to not such great news today. the polls are tightening in several key battlegrounds including the race both sides are treating as a must-win. the senate seat in pennsylvania. >> bill: new polling conducted after the fetterman rocky debate
6:01 am
performance showing the democrat in a dead heat with dr. mehmet oz. both men making final arguments. the vote count could last for days. >> this election is so transformative we have to make sure that who we are is reflected in washington and important for a bunch of reasons. you want to be energized and excited about america, go campaign in pennsylvania. >> there is so much at stake at this race. and it is all talking about it could actually be related to control of the senate. and also having the stroke and -- and, you know, i got knocked down but i got back up. >> dana: team fox coverage. lucas tomlinson is at the white house with more on the democrats' final push on the campaign trail and reaction from our own josh holmes and we begin with rich edson in lancaster, pennsylvania. >> the polling is getting about
6:02 am
as tight as it can go here. that's the case in a new poll just out now. from a allentown morning call shows a tie. 47% to 47% of a survey of likely voters. they surveyed voters two days before and three days after last tuesday's debate. less than a week to go before election day both candidates are out campaigning. fetterman is in state college this evening. oz will campaign tonight near harrisburg. pennsylvania secretary of state says 65% of the more than 1.3 million mail-in ballots requested have been returned. a half million are outstanding and officials are warning of delays getting results election night. >> because pennsylvania law still does not allow pre-canvassing of mail ballots before 7:00 a.m. on election day it could take officials a few days to have all an official results. >> there we go. secretary of state says voters
6:03 am
should now hand deliver mail-in ballots to their county election office or a drop box to make sure they meet the deadline and arrive on or before election day. also a major decision here yesterday by the pennsylvania supreme court. it ruled officials cannot count ballots with missing or incorrect dates. they have to set those ballots aside. state law says voters have to hand write the date on the outer envelope when they return their mail-in ballots. republicans sued to enforce that. the ruling is a massive victory for the rule of law. democrats argued officials should count undated ballots as most ballots are coming from democrats voting for democratic candidates. it is still reviewing the supreme court decision. >> dana: thank you so much coming down just last night. >> bill: josh holmes will help us. former mitch mcconnell chief of staff. nice to see you. catch up the viewers on what we have now. first pennsylvania that rich was
6:04 am
talking about. it's margin of error material right the there as that race tightens between oz and fetterman. our own polling released last night. arizona margin of error yet again. also between masters and kelly. in wisconsin mandela barnes and senator johnson margin of error yet again. what do you see as of now, josh, before we dive into more specifics based on that? >> look, bill, all of these races are starting to be pushed further and further into the red column. that typically happens with mid-term elections where you get late-deciding voters that break toward the political environment. the party in power, if they have a low approval rating as this one does with president biden around 40% or a right track, wrong track in the direction of the country 35 to 40% range or a big disapproval on the economy you have late-deciding voters
6:05 am
pushed away from the party in power. you have all three of those factors this year. so you see in all of these states beginning a pretty significant shift towards the right. >> dana: can you tell me a little bit about new hampshire. i understand some of the republican money had to leave new hampshire in order to help oz in pennsylvania. but even that race looks very close, josh. >> i think it is incredibly close and general done bolduc has a chance of winning this race. democrats have had such a significant spending advantage at the candidate and committee level. you've seen the outside super pacs namely in particular the one you're referring to have to carry 90 plus% of the weight of the spending on the republican side in many states across the country. north carolina and ohio, those two states alone they have carried 70 plus million dollars worth of spending. you can't do everything all the
6:06 am
time. but what you can do is try to make investments that move the needle at the right time. new hampshire is one in particular. they made a $20 million investment in four weeks. that moved the numbers significantly and i think that's put general bolduc in a position to win. >> bill: i see two things moving here. joe biden is not popular at 43% approval rating. that is the low point for the past 20 years when you look at presidents in power looking at a mid-term. this from the "wall street journal." they looked at suburban women in america. they make up 20% of the electorate. they have moved 26 points toward the republican party. minus 13 to plus 13 right now. they favor the republicans at the moment late october by 15 points. that is -- you can talk about whatever group you want but 20% of the electorate. 20% of the people who will vote
6:07 am
on november 8th are suburban women. >> look, it's a big shift. partially reflects a failure in strategy by the democrats, i believe, in trying to put all suburban women in one bucket and believe that they could run exclusively on the issue of abortion for four months. clearly that's not the case. women, just as men, care about the economy, care about their ability to afford groceries and put gas in the car and everything else. that message has come along very late for democrats. i think the shift amongst suburban women is indicative of the fact it has come too late for democrats at this point. they haven't made an economic argument to anybody at this point. >> dana: what did you make of the "new york times" piece today with all these an ole mouse democratic strategists saying they haven't done anything right in this campaign. >> dana, it's that portion of the program, right? almost every time you see at the end of a cycle that's not going well for one party or another,
6:08 am
you begin the finger pointing, right? that's what's happening at this point. everybody is looking for somebody to blame. truth be told it's the biden agenda and economic agenda in particular which they have inacted that has created a bunch of economic problems for the american people. it doesn't matter what your campaign tactics are. the reality on the ground is the american people are grappling with an incredibly difficult economic situation for their families and they will vote accordingly. >> bill: come back soon. try to marry the center left and far left has proven to be very difficult. >> dana: good to see you. as races tighten, team congratulations are pinning their homes on former president obama campaigning for several candidates in battleground states who need a boost in the homestretch. lucas tomlinson is live at the white house looking beautiful this morning with the fall leaves behind you. thank you for being with us this morning. what have you heard? >> it is beautiful here, dana.
6:09 am
it's the former president barack obama going to the critical key states not the president whose aproverbal rating remains underwater. >> moping and feeling cynical is not on option. the only way to make this economy fair is if we, all of us, fight for it. the only way to save democracy is if we together fight for it. >> in recent days obama has visited georgia, michigan, wisconsin in addition to nevada. he is in arizona tonight. these are the states that will determine which party controls the senate, not just pass or block laws but also potentially confirm or block a biden spring court pick. yesterday the white house air force one flew to florida. president have used it to crisscross the nation barn storage for candidates giving them a boost fruity the sitting
6:10 am
president. the only swing state biden plans to visit is pennsylvania alongside obama. obama fundraiser not sounding optimistic. >> florida is out of reach. it's indicative that the candidates are in a mode of desperation. >> tomorrow he heads to new mexico, california and then pennsylvania this weekend. >> bill: after the mid-terms not even in the books yet. president biden looking ahead to 2024 setting sights on the possibility of a second term. "washington post" reports that the president has been huddling with advisors at the white house residence in september laying the ground work for a re-election bid. a lot of talk about that late into the evening election night. >> dana: i think one of the reasons the story leaked -- one
6:11 am
of the reasons it got reported and confirmed is because they want to lay the ground work before anyone else decides to jump in. >> bill: a list to that. we mentioned this, dana. let's read this paragraph in the "wall street journal" covers two groups. gop has seen a shift in its favor including latino voters and women and white suburban women. the point we made with josh holmes. that group makes up 20% of the electorate shifted 26 percentage points away from democrats since the journal's august poll and now favors the gop by 15%, august, september and october. you have a theory. >> dana: one, democrats spent millions of dollars in abortion ads. it hasn't stuck. if you are someone who lives in new york and nothing changes for me and you look at your price you are paying at the gas station and grocery store it makes a difference. the other thing that happened in august and september is white

suburban and latino women's and all the moms had to get their kids ready to go back to school. it is expensive. clothing, sports fees, things you have to pay extra for school. a little overwhelming and decided republicans might be a better choice. that's just my theory. who am i anyway? investors are bracing for a rate hike. they expect to announce the move today and drawing pushback from democrats. >> bill: u.s. diesel supply running dangerously low and putting a strain on small businesses already struggling against that stubborn inflation. >> dana: another closer than expected senate race is shaping up in ohio. tim ryan an j.d. vance were in a town hall last night. >> we need a tax cut and need to put money in people's pockets if we'll weather the storm here. >> one of the reasons why we have the terrible inflation is because the biden administration

>> we work for peanuts right now and nobody can say anything. there is nobody to talk to. >> the only people that will survive is the bigger companies. smaller ones won't make it. >> fewer trucks on the road. prices go higher, anything that a truck brings you will be higher. >> dana: the trucking industry feeling the stress of a diesel shortage and higher fuel prices including our next guest. let's bring in garner trucking president cheri garner and garner truck driver gary smith. this is call for number two. since 2020 to 2022 in two years
6:19 am
you have had 123% increase in cost of fuel. so cheri, what has that done to your business and how have you survived and how have you passed that on to consumers, i imagine? >> well, unfortunately this business that was started by my parents, vern and jean garner in 1960. 62 years in the trucking industry, these are times that they didn't even see -- they lived through the embargoes of the 70s but price of fuel that we are experiencing, my company, unfortunately, my customers are experiencing that as well as the pass on, in part, to my customers. and we haul anything from water to tires to all sorts of goods on our trucks. and that cost is going into those goods. >> dana: gary, you are on the road delivering things.
6:20 am
pretty is interesting. i think of all the products i used this morning to get ready to come here today and probably all of them were delivered ultimately by diesel fueled truck and this does affect everybody. do you think about that when you are out there on the road trying to make these delivers reese? >> yeah, i certainly do. you want to serve our nation the best we possibly can and we have a vital role to keep america moving. but i have had to make a conscious effort to change my mindset to some degree about how to get the best miles per gallon. and to -- how can i -- how can i make things efficient when i'm out there? and it was a conscious effort to modify my driving habits to boost my mpg. i kind of had to eliminate my

viewpoint and see the big picture. >> dana: so you take that on yourself. there is only so much you can do when the prices are going up. today it's $5.31, a month ago $4.87, a year ago $3.63. that adds up when you think of all the products delivered by diesel that you use every day. cheri, you said something to our producer that was interesting. you are not able, then, to give your employees what they need. you said that you are putting more money in fuel tanks and not in paychecks. i'm sure that's something that's frustrating for you when you are also trying to hold onto really good people like gary, for example. >> absolutely. the cost of labor attracting and keeping good drivers like gary, those are the type of drivers -- conscious drivers that gary we want in our fleet and driving our trucks. but it does make you aware of
6:22 am
retaining cash so that you have to put it in a fuel tank as opposed to a paycheck. and i would much rather put money in a paycheck than in a fuel tank. and just a few short years ago, i was doing that. >> dana: gary, i understand also when you are on the road -- cheri is back there at headquarters, i wonder if you've heard from anyone else you know, other truckers when you stop and get fuel, what are they saying? what is the mood amongst the truckers who deserve a lot more of our respect, i believe, across the nation? >> yeah, i think what there is, sometimes shock and awe to some degree. and then you get in a way -- when you see the price of fuel, i am just thankful that i'm not in a smaller company or even an owner/operator. i would have to make certain
6:23 am
decisions whether or not it's still worth to continue in this great profession. but it wears on everybody, it truly does. no one is exempt from this. >> dana: and that's not only you but also then consumers at home as well. cheri and gary, thank you for being with us today. we hope things get better. they are lucky to have you, cheri, thank you. >> thank you. >> thank you. >> bill: 23 past now. federal reserve rate hike later today rattling the stock market doing little to lower inflation. central bank expected to issue another aggressive move today. some democrats pressuring the fed chair jerome powell to hold off on the decision. polls show inflation and economy are top issues for voters. edward lawrence waiting on the north lawn. edward, good morning to you. >> senator elizabeth ware en sent a letter to the white house asking jerome powell when will

of these migrants walking up into this area. many of them are from cuba, nicaragua, dominican republic. these are countries that for the most part are not subject to title 42 meaning that a lot of these countries a lot of the people you see right here will eventually be released after they're done being processed. that's why you see them voluntarily turn themselves in and give themselves up. they know they won't be expelled back to mexico. they know once they process they'll be released into the u.s. and go to a city of their choosing. i talked to a few cubans who told me they are heading to miami where they have family there. look at the video we shot earlier as the long line of migrants was walking up. essentially what happens is once they cross the river border patrol sees them on cameras. head down to the river and walk them up to the processing area and what a big strain this will be on the border patrol resources. one bus fits 70 people. they need a lot of buses to show up here. look in the rio grande valley. troopers stopped an uber driver
6:33 am
they found smuggling five illegal immigrants in mission, texas. that uber driver was cooperative and opened up his app. he was hired by a client he told texas troopers who told him to pick up the migrants by the rio grande and drop them off at a local mall. he was cooperative. tech as dps believes he was tricked by a human smuggling organization tricking ride share drivers into doing the pickups for them in an effort to avoid law enforcement. that uber driver was not charged or arrested. they believe they may have been an innocent victim tricked by the human smuggling organizations. i reached out to uber and haven't heard back yet. back live this morning, dana. it is groundhog day out here. we see this almost every single day in the normandy area. another group of several hundred behind us. we'll see another group later today and again tomorrow morning. >> dana: incredible. >> bill: want to show our viewers at home why this could matter come election night, all
