has nothing else. january 6 has become the kevin bacon of terrible events for democrats. everything could be linked to january 6. i just hope when he brings up election deniers which is a threat to democracy he does include dear hillary who already called into question 2024 so we better include that. it's amazing how extreme the demonization has become. it's a trip. you're watching the same people who claimed rhetoric because the pelosi violence. then mayor minutes later in another segment we will say republicans are a threat to democracy. if the republicans take over and we have heard this, worse than 9/11, watergate, worse than cnn plus all combined. who is painting targets on who? when they say it's printed democracy, they are really saying it's a threat to democrats because of the only time they feel a sense of urgency, when they are about to be tossed out of power and you look at what they call a threat to democrats or a threat to democracy, voter i.d.,

free speech which is now being redefined as disinformation, elon musk buying twitter. somehow that's going to end the world. fox news which presents a fair and balanced view of the news which has so long been biased and what's not a threat to them, crime. if you bring up crime, they make fun of you. riots, looting, social justice. they put themselves in a corner because they've been demonizing people for so long they don't know where to go on the president's credibility is -- he is -- he comes off as angry, habitually lying and confused. he is like an old confidence man in the medicine show ditched him in the middle of the night and he is stuck in your town. >> jesse: katie, one republicans end democracy of the red -- after the red wave, is biden saying there is never going to be another house and senate election? all of the senators and congressmen are just going to sit in their offices and you're never going to get them out of there? >> katie: is hard to know what biden is saying so i don't know why you're asking me to define

some of the things he's been saying. i used it to get lunch in union station. now i get my street cred there. republicans are having big rallies. registering more voters and they are losing the early voting battle in places like florida and georgia for example and possibly in pennsylvania as well so that's why they are doing this. democrats have invested so much political capital, including the january 6 committee come into this narrative about preserving democracy. republicans are a threat to democracy. they are claiming if republicans go to the polls or independent voters for example and vote for republicans that it's a threat to democracy even though they are literally voting for representatives they believe will represent what they want and take care of the issues that are affecting their lives. in june, fox news did a poll. they ask the question, who do you think is better at preserving democracy,

are not as safe and i think they are sick of democrats focusing on them as a one issue voter in terms of abortion when there's other issues like inflation, crime, education. of >> greg: that's good point. jessica, you're a white woman, or so you identify asked. is this more about married women versus single women? because you have kids, that changes your filter and suddenly it's about the price of baby food, not the price of an abortion. abortion takes a backseat to applesauce. is that a fair assessment? >> jessica: married women do also have abortions. that is something to note. >> greg: it's a valiant point, jessica. they can be just as murderous as single women. so these were never our voters. they swing in and out depending on the election, and 2020 had a really big name on the ballot. donald trump's name on the ballot and that's how we were able to pick off so many white suburban voters who typically vote republican. the timing of the decision, it felt like when the momentum was going our way and you have the kansas referendum et cetera, this was going to hold. then conditions in the economy didn't improve very much and crime became a superseding issue to where abortion is so i don't think it's something that isn't important to them but you're going to have to rank your choices, you're going to have to pick a lane and white suburban women, i didn't expect a 26-point swing but they are picking a lane and it's not voting on a social issue. voting on a bread and butter issue like public safety. >> greg: dana, seems like those white suburban women like

to swing. >> dana: have you heard about that? there's a show on netflix. >> greg: is not mainly about the price of things, inflation. >> dana: also think that for women who often control the spending of the household, going back to school is very expe expensive. you've got the sports fees and all the things that you got to pay for. that was kind of shocking for them and then you've got to make lunches and everything. wow, so much more extensive. i feel like the democrats wouldn't recognize a kitchen table if it hit them in the f face. think about the year before, the midterms, republicans were able to pick up races and a lot of those places. this has been coming. it's not something new. i picked up something you might like today. talking about oregon. looks like a few of the congressional races might flip to republican but also the governor's race and there was a woman, a mother who was interviewed and she said her big issue is the following.

patrol agents. authorities trying to control the situation by firing pepper balls after one officer hit by a rock and another assaulted. the aclu taking issue with the methods used by agents to deal with migrants who adjust assaulted them. describing the actions as cruel. the national border patrol council firing back with this tweet. audience, democrats, republicans, independent voters, do you think the border is secure and 1% raise their hand. it looked like there were about 100 people in the room. if that's what's going on, if you have a room that does have a bunch of democrats and some independents who are going to swing and vote for tim ryan you could expect and you had one person who was raising their hand on it, you have an issue that you have to address. even just on the messaging level. putting aside the sheer numbers of this, people are not seeing this and walking away from it and saying something different. they are saying exactly what it is and it hasn't been a big issue if you look at the most recent polling. public safety and crime is not really border issues or national security but it weighs on people is something the administration is just not addressing. >> dana: we have resources. fox news invests, we have people in texas, able to get to arizona

but the border is long and encompasses mexico and california as well. this is an amazing story and there's just no media curiosity outside of here. >> katie: it's amazing that people are ignoring it. if you're a journalist, so many things to cover. in the towns, schools are locked down on a regular basis, high-speed chases, shoot-outs with the police. the aclu is arguing these people are asylum-seekers. they are so afraid of what's happening in their home countries they are flying flag of their home countries of the border while they come into the country, salting our border patrol agents by throwing rocks at them. rocks are a lethal weapon. they are really lucky that they weren't shot, that they weren't just chop with pepper balls and it wasn't worse for them considering this is an international border. it's not like going into a department store getting on a bus, it's an international border where they should be some kind of border in the aclu by again putting the border patrol

for parents and relatives who donate to harvard. always an implicit judgment when people meet you. did you get there in character, competence, or color? >> katie: white students come into the debate about affirmative action. it's really not about white privilege -- >> jessica: it's about a larger debate about affirmative action. college is trying to kid a community of learners, not the best test takers. affirmative action goes further than talk about race. no one is discussing the fact that if you are someone who grew up in utah or wyoming that you are likely to more get accepted to a top university than people out of new york or california because there's so many of them. no one arguing and on behalf of these asian students, harvard or unc, saying the black -- they are not seen the black kids weren't qualified. they are talking about the test scores. if you're judged only by your

test scores, going to end up with a lot of bots. taking standardized test is something that's not good for certain kids. kids who have learning disabilities, can't perform as well. a important marker, they need to stay for things like going to medical school, i see why the lsat is important. when you think about your college experience, was the person you thought was most interesting the ones who have the highest s.a.t. score? i doubt it. someone who was from a diverse background, someone who you never thought you'd meet. i grew up a certain way and the people i gravitated towards because your going to a place for four years to learn about different people, folks were not from new york city. that's for me what affirmative action is all about. >> greg: go after people that are just interesting? that's the criteria? i am here to judge if you're interesting or not. you look different.

[laughter] >> jessica: students for fair admissions bringing this on behalf of their students. but they object to is that consideration of race and race by itself. for >> dana: a couple things, clarence thomas had what does the word diversity mean? it really has become this catchall term. his point was it can mean whatever you want it to mean. that is to be taken into consideration. carrie severino, a lawyer who said the university tried to suggest that the racial aspect of their emission standards had little impact on admissions but they needed in order to have diversity. i think they just walked themselves into the situation where john roberts, chief justice said i'm not buying it. the other thing, you know what is a national security imperative, the fact that we have k-12 education that is so bad and learning loss from covid with horrible test scores, the key to making sure more people
