♪. rachel: president biden hitting the road to new mexico campaigning for governor michelle lujan grisham. one topic that didn't come up during his two speeches in the state, immigration and despite the migrant surge down south he didn't stop to visit the border himself. here to discuss republican candidate for new mexico governor mark ronchetti. welcome. >> rachel, good to talk with you. rachel: first of all let's get right to it, how do you feel about the fact that the president still has not visited the border? >> well it is not a surprise. i think what we've seen here with this president is a complete and told abdication of

his responsibilities. the problem in new mexico our governor has not stepped in to fill in the gap. if you look what happened in arizona, what happened in texas they tried to stem the tide of what we're seeing with the immigration problem and obviously a porous border left wide open by this president. our governor in the state of new mexico has not done that. when she took office in the 2019, the first thing she did was pull the national guard. what we have as a result, rachel, is a flow of fentanyl into the state of new mexico driving our violent crime a human trafficking network driving our violent crime and left new mexicans at risk. we're not only a open border state basically now. what we're dealing with at this point is a state where anything goes crimewise. we're the second most violent state in the country. a big reason why because of what is happening with the border. i can't tell you we're totally surprised at what the president did. rachel: you are very close, you're nipping at her heels. so if you were to become the governor of new mexico, what

would you do? because immigration is a federal issue, so what will you do as governor to stem the tide? >> i think we have to attack this problem and respect it's a crime problem for us too. we're a sanctuary state, rachel. that is huge issue as well. we'll do three things. number one we have to return to the national guard to the border, because we're 600 border agents short in our section, 180-mile section of the border. number two we'll add a border strike force. two things, 150 agents through the department of public safety here in new mexico. they will to after the fentanyl flow and human trafficking flow that will help. where the federal government is failing we have to step in for the safety of new mexicans. beyond that we have to end the sanctuary state policies. when you have someone here illegally commits a crime, the state of new mexico, the governor put up a wall to say that the feds and local law enforcement can't talk to each other. we'll rip that wall down and make sure that people can be safe again in the state of new

it felt as an act of malice to hear that a judge would grant bail to someone who had just previously within the day or two before confessed to murdering my child. told them where he put the gun. we have dna on the gun. we had facial software that recognized him yet bail was set. it felt very malicious towards victims of families. i know we're not the only one who suffered through this. it was just unbelievable, total shock. will: jason, so much to talk to you about in the story. i'm so sorry. it is such a tragedy. i can't imagine the sense of loss that you can never find a replacement but obviously there is also the policies that behind, led to this revictimmization, to be honest. a guy with nine prior arrests and the judge ignore's the prosecutor's recommendation. you look at the justice system, or this individual judge.

you say, i mean, why? , why? >> i don't know. i don't have an answer for that. i know that i've learned that some of these judges are called machine judges. in other words they have some political connection to someone else that can get them on the ballot and so when people go to elections and think vote all democrat or all republican, these judges are just pushed through. this is a great example of that. it is a very opaque process, voting for a judge. most people have no idea what these judges stand for or what they don't stand for, this is great example. this judge received over 99% of the vote. it is new york city, it is a democratic city. yet he is letting murders walk free on the streets. this murderer has been free for two years. he gave him another chance. we're very, we're very optimistic he won't make bail but, he has the opportunity to. that's scary, really scary.
