tropical storm nicole pummelling florida after making landfall as category 1 hurricane with 75 mile per hour wind, striking south of vero beach and north of fort pierce on the state's east coast. you're watching "fox and friends first," i'm todd piro. >> carley: i'm carley shimkus. 36,000 people have lost power and 45 counties are under a state of emergency. griff jenkins has more from the ground. >> griff: good morning, florida is used to hurricanes, even tropical storms, not this late in november, last time florida saw a hurricane make landfall in november, it was 1985. it has been calm, two hours laters, the winds are picking back up a bit, some debris blowing about 50 to 55 miles per
2:01 am
hour, it is not too intense. this storm is tropical storm downgraded, the worry is the tide, beach erosion and tide here, waves are coming up along this retaining wall and north of us, a boardwalk already yesterday afternoon, collapsed that. people set up a roadblock. what is concerning about this tide, it's a king tide coknow siding with the full moon and only happens a couple times a year and coincided with a category 1 hurricane coming in, structures from here up north to cocoa beach and daytonia and going back down to palm beach, that is why so many counties are under a state of emergency. just last month, areas north of us and daytonia seeing remnants from hurricane ian last month.
2:02 am
the worry is coastal flooding, not yet, the tide has not flooded thisirria, but it is a low area in vero beach, that is a concern. we're on an island that is low lying and high tide is 8 to 9 a.m. many residentses say it is just a hurr one hurricane or tropica storm, but low-lying areas like this, retaining walls like that, a park just south of us already rubbed off by police yesterday afternoon, they don't want anyone to come see the storm as the sun comes up because of concerns of retaining walls collapsing. that is happening now and it will pick up and get more windy and a lot rainier for next several hours as the eye passes over us and works north affecting areas up heading toward georgia.
2:03 am
todd and carley. >> carley: lake monroe is 2-1/2 hours from you and we're seeing the storm surge going to the boardwalk there. think about ian, it hit the west coast, nicole is hitting on the east. this storm is so big, there will be overlap there. thank you, we'll check back in, stay safe. >> todd: to janice dean, what i can't get over, that is a lake, you don't have the power of the ocean, that was all from the storm. that was wild video. >> janice: uh-huh. to show you how rare hurricanes are to hit florida, only had two in november, the latest season hurricanes going back into october, back to 1859 here thachl is quite historic to see november landfall hurricane, three hurricanes tied with 2001 for most hurricanes in the atlantic to form in the month of
2:04 am
november, certainly a historic year and florida has been hit by one of the worst hurricanes to hit the state, that was ian just a few weeks ago. the storm did make landfall and moving inland, tropical storm force winds extend from the center of circulation, we will feel the effects of the system throughout the day and into friday and it curves up toward southeasts, georgia and carolinas and will transition into extra tropical storm impacting mid-atlantic and northeast friday and saturday. power outages are imminent and maybe for a couple days or over a week or so. heavy rainfall over saturated ground will cause flash flooding for florida and up toward georgia, the carolinas and the mid-atlantic. tornado threat, could see weak tornados causing more structural
2:05 am
damage, which we don't need to see. friday, parts of the mid-atlantic and anne applebaums and cold air will bring snow, we will talk about this well into saturday and sunday. saturated ground over northeast will cause concern and flash flooding, that will be the story as we head into friday and saturday. if i can make note, we have a blizzard full-scale blizzard happening across the northern plains, that will bring blizzard conditions, two feet of snow and ice storm warnings, as well. we're focused on florida, but these folks are getting it across the northern plains. >> carley: all sorts of weather, what an active weather moment. >> janice: foxweather.com has you covered. >> carley: midterm election, house majority claiming 2 07 of
2:06 am
the 218 seats to flip it. the senate control hangs in two races and a georgia runoff. >> todd: ashley strohmier has more. >> ashley: republicans on the virge of claiming both the house and senate. republicans are inching closer to securing 218 seats and flipping the lower chamber. the gop total tallying 2-7 democrats, 184, as it standing in senate, gop has 49 seats, 51 needed for the majority. key races in nevada and arizona are too close to call. in nevada's senate race, republican laxalt is still leading over democrat catherine cortez-masto. in the state's governor race, the republican party is leading, as well, with joe lombardo hold og to comfy lead over democrat sisolak and tens of thousands of ballots still need to be counted
2:07 am
in the state. arizona, republican blake masters is trailing democrat mark kelly by 5%. state's governor race between republican cari lake and democrat katie hobbs is neck and neck. lake speaking last night, feeling optimistic about the outcome. >> i feel 100% certain i'm going to win issue the question is how big will the win be? we have 650,000 votes that have not been counted and guess who the voters are? the people who showed up on election day. >> ashley: in georgia, all eyes are on the senate race, incumbent raphael warnock and republican herschel walker advance to a runoff, with neither garnering 50% of the vote. walker says he's ready to keep fighting. >> right now we're in a tiebreaker, i'm not giving this seat up, right now the georgia people are hurting because of inflation, georgia people are
2:08 am
hurting because of crime on the street. kids got men in women's sports, less than two years since he's been in office, i will not let them destroy georgia or this country. >> ashley: top republicans prepare for roles in congress, they are sharing plans for house leadership. >> we have to have leadership team ready to roll up our sleeves and ready to go and push advance this agenda, take strong leadership to get it done. i intend to be at the table. >> i support kevin mccarthy for speaker and he'll win that race and we'll talk about getting to work. people focus on all of the drama in washington, we'll get to work for the hard-working families who gave us this majority. >> ashley: some races are nail-biters. >> todd: watching and waiting. >> carley: thank you, 44 house races still hang in the balance, we do not have the results
2:09 am
there. kevin mccarthy very confident that republicans are going toin with, he sent a letter to gop leaders yesterday announcing his decision to run for house minority leader -- or house majority leader, speaker of the house. >> todd: my thumb isir tooed, i keep refreshing to see the latest, to know who won. republicans had a big night in new york. gop flipping several districts including historic win against high-ranking democrat sean patrick maloney. >> carley: we're talking to 0? several of the big winners next. pantene's pro-vitamin formula repairs hair. as well as the leading luxury bonding treatment. for softness and resilience, without the price tag. if you know... you know it's pantene.

>> carley: new york voters sending a message by giving the boot to democrats and boosting gop candidates in federal and state races. newly elected new york republicans join me, nick lalodaand state senator steven rhodes and fitzpatrick. congressman laloda, i will start with you, you won the seat currently being held by lee
2:14 am
zeldin and new york is a bright spot for republicans this midterm cycle, why do you think that is? >> a lot of credit to my predecessor lee zeldin, heck of a run for governor, saw success in the upstate and we won a lot of key races in the state, mostly because of him. he was campaigning by bringing law and order back to our states, voters and citizens are concerned for safety and he stood for the right principles and put wind in our sails. i give him tremendous credit for doing that. >> carley: lee zeldin did lose, it was by much closer margin know that the race should have been, do you think his race and your win will push new york further to the right? >> i certainly think that this sent a message to other elected
2:15 am
officials there are plenty of residentses in nassau county that understand crime and the economy are affecting residents on a daily basis and i think there will be a change in albany, especially since we've broken the super majority in the senate. >> carley: i was reading about that, state senator election rhodes, you will be working with kathy hochul, how do you think that will go, especially when it comes to bail reform? >> ultimately, the democrats in albany, need to face reality. long islanders voted for safe streets, good schools, they voted for opportunities for their kids and grandkids to enjoy a quality of life and be able to afford to stay in nassau county. democrats need to recognize
2:16 am
that, if they fail to do so, it is at their own risk. i would hope kathy hochul sees the message that was sent by long islanders and moves herself to the center, which is where most new yorkers are and see reality they want to be safe. we have 53% increase in major crime in nassau in the past year and i think it is foolish for her and for some of the moderate democrats in the state senate not to recognize that and react to it. >> carley: congressman elects, back to you, to the federal level, the president had a press conference yesterday and asked if there is anything he will change in the second half of his presidency, he said nothing, so perfect he should be put under museum glass. with that in mind, are you expecting partisan gridlock or can anything be done? >> the house is 54 days away from being sworn in, we're
2:17 am
excited about the prospect of governing how we campaign, we promised voters to secure the border and reign in follow spending and pair back wasteful spending in washington. whether the president wants to acknowledge that is what voters want, that is him. he will have to explain to the american public why he might not entertain a bill on securing a border or might not pair back federal spending it is on him to explain that and we will make our case january 3rd. >> carley: what do you hope to get done day one in office? >> certainly as my colleagues mentioned, the crime on long island has been such an issue. we go to our pharmacies and things are locked up because of fear of shoplifting and that has promoted a feeling we're unsafe
2:18 am
and we can't leave our doors unlocked or cars or homes, that needs attention immediately to give judges back discretion to hold people that are committing crimes. we have to get the crime under control, nothing else matters if we don't feel safe in our community. >> carley: congress elect lalata, you are breathing a sigh of relief and i got through all your names and titles, thank you for joining us, we appreciate it. another win for gop republican zach nunn beats incumbent cind nee axney flipping iowa as party fights to regain majority in the house. >> todd: pressure on me to say zach nunn, i did it, so did the republicans in the great state of iowa, complete kong aggressional sweep of all races,
2:19 am
how did you and your fellow republicans do it? >> nailed it, first of all, thanks for having us on. iowa is perpetually purple state. we have governor reynolds, who kept schools open during the pandemic, we unseated incumbents and knocked off one of the democrats most liberal winners, voting with needless in iowa third district in des moines. working across the aisle, whether democrat, republican in iowa, family like mine, four kids and two fosters, everybody is feeling the pinch of economic challenges the last two years and iowa wants government that works versus government that tax and spend and take money out. >> carley: lasts time we talked to you your opponent was accusing you of being racist for
2:20 am
wanting border security. you were able to flip the seat. there are a lot of republicans who were not able to do what you did on tuesday and some people in the party are wondering why it wasn't as much of a red wave than expected? some says abortion, some say candidate qualities, what do you think? >> every race will come down to individual and local issues, but there was a big red wave in the sense of there will be enough republicans elected to wave nancy pelosi goodbye starting in january 2023, that is big enough red wave for me. we have great candidates who have done heroic things. iowa is no different, we elected all republicans to congress, first time that happened in three decades. we moved the needle in the right direction, we're seeing across the country, races are tight, people want to see pragmatic

leadership and can accomplish thingses. i'm mission focused and this new freshman class will be mission focused and about delivering. >> carley: lieutenant colonel and congressman-elect, thank you. inflation report coming out this morning. >> todd: here is president biden's plan to help make your life easier. >> what do you intend to do differently to change people's opinion of the direction of the country? >> president biden: nothing. >> todd: like carley said, so perfect, he should be under museum glass. cheryl casone should also be under museum glass. she's here. i tried everything to remove fabric odors,

>> carley: dow futures are up as the market begins to rebrown. yesterday dow opened down 200 points as future of congress is in doubt.
2:26 am
>> todd: robert, thanks for being here, circumstance sxp always rises, every time you say always, next one is stopping that. with recession that will likely get worse in 2023, does that pattern end? >> good morning, great to be back with you. i think the expectation that gridlock is good for market as rule of thumb will not hold true for the coming year because the driving factor for the economic downturn is largely being driven by the biden administration policies that the president signalled he is only doubling down on. so here divide control of our federal government isn't going to be in a position to address the inflation from the spending appropriated and biden administration's war on energy
2:27 am
that is causing oil and gas prices to continue to be high. >> carley: market fluctuating is due to mass layoffs in big tech, meta just got rid of 11,000 employees, zuckerberg said the company was overstaffed. twitter, a mass layoff there when elon musk took control of the company. what do you make of why this is happen something >> welcome to the reality verse mark zuckerberg, you can't run a company and not have consequences there. young people are leaving facebook, sales are down because interest is down and it is a product not appealing to older users, they don't want to work with a company that has been known to suppress free speech and to misuse information of users. metaverse you was a dumb bet,
2:28 am
people want to live in the real world, elimination of 13% of the facebook workforce there is just an adjustment the company is making, but it is part of the economic downturn that we're seeing being driven by the poor economic conditions, the near recession and this administration's policies. >> todd: concerning economic patterns, layoffs hit tech first then spread to the rest of the economy. expect 2023, like you said, to be really bad for jobs. get your thoughts on this, at the southern border, 60's0 migrants in el paso have just been released, border patrol asked to reopen the welcome center, it refused because they need funding and reimbursement to make this happen. did republicans elect enough people to end this border mess? >> well, they do if they have
2:29 am
the backbone and the commitment to get the job done. i think just because the election happened, obviously didn't mean the border has been secured. the biden border crisis continues, you just described typical day for el paso, laredo and del rio in southern border of texas. republicans have to hold the line. they will be in charge of the house, potentially in charge of the senate, this needs to be nonnegotiable to reinvent the policies that worked during the last administration and nothing else can get passed until we take care of our national obligation to protect citizens of this country and to secure the borders, that should not be nego negotiable. that is what i hope to see from soon to be speaker mccarthy and mcconnell as they move forward,
2:30 am
that has to be job number one, period, full stop. >> carley: more on the border crisis to come. robert. thank you. forget the senate, the media imagining john fetterman in the oval office. >> fetterman as nominee at some point for president, what he did in the super red deep red part of pennsylvania makes you wonder about his future. >> todd: that is not a deep fake, yeah, that is real. that happened, beverly hoburg is here to respond.
2:31 am

2:33 am
i get bladder leaks. i didn't want to feel like i was wearing the pads i wore when i was twelve. then i tried the always discreet pads. they fit perfectly
2:34 am
in the places they're supposed to. look how much it holds, and it still stays thin! it's the protection we deserve! >> carley: republicans have a good shot at flipping the house and maybe the senate. president biden doesn't seem too concerned. >> 75% of voters say the country is heading in the wrong direction, what in the next two years do you intend to do differently to change people's opinion as you contemplate a run for president in 2024? >> president biden: nothing. >> todd: beverly hallburg joins us now. beverly, when you hear the president say he's going to do nothing to improve horrific economic status of our country, what goes through your head? >> he thought election day was a victory lap that he could take because of the results.
2:35 am
he was having a good day with the press yesterday, democrats did do better than expectations, he thinks this is about him and it's not. 75% of the country are unhappy with how things are going and had people come out and say we don't want him to run, two-thirds of americans don't want him to. 1 in 5 democrats don't know if he could serve effectively because of his mental capability. he may think it is a rubberstamp approval, he needs to take a hard look. republicans ran on what was wrong and not what they can do to fix it and that is essential as inflation continues to creep up. >> carley: yesterday he was asked if he would run in 2000 twour, he says it is his intention to do so. a progressive group launched a don't run joe campaign, we cannot risk losing in 2024 and
2:36 am
shouldn't gamble on joe biden's low approval rating and that smacks the president with reality, he may be happy about what happened in the midterms, but he is still very unpopular, even within his own party. >> very unpopular and this is something democrats have to wrestle and figure out if they will come behind him. one thing the president did yesterday, pointing out h opponents, the ron and don show and pointing out there will be in-fighting among republicans and i think ron desantis is going to run and he is coming out on true social yesterday saying he got 1.1 million more votes than ron desantis did in florida, there will be a big show on the republican side and i think president biden is hoping to point to that conflict to pull the heat from himself. >> todd: you mentioned joe
2:37 am
biden's mental status, when has that stopped democrats before, including now? msnbc host speculating john fetterman could run for president some day, listen to this. f.d.r. as a nominee at some point for president, i think there are very variables, obviously, what he did in pennsylvania and the way he ran ahead of biden and trump makes you wonder about his future. >> todd: two questions, what the bleep and doesn't this prove democrats will overlook anything in their quest for power, including mental capacity of candidates, first with joe biden and now potentially with john fetterman? >> i'm wondering if the covid wardrobe of leisure wear prepared people for a hoody as president, not sure about that. people wonder what happened in
2:38 am
pennsylvania, there were so many early votes cast in that states, before the debate happened he had between he and mehmet oz in that campaign. i think early votes changed things and does point to many democrats are going to vote for the d, doesn't matter who it is, they do not want republican. i am hopeful as we continue to election and debates will continue and they matter and as the economy is a major issue, people will vote for candidates who can help their pocketbook and other areas of life. i don't see fetterman making a run for president, who knows, i didn't think he could win the senate. >> carley: there was a lot of ticket splitting, too, between dr. oz and mastriano. thank you. >> todd: republicans ready to

president's son has been under federal investigation for tax affairs since 2018 and with republicans accusing fbi of protecting the biden family despite having evidence of criminal activity, the house oversight committee is expected to announce their investigation into hunter biden, if the house does flip republican. president biden maintained he has never spoken to his son about business dealings. james comer says he thinks twitter ceo elon musk will cooperate with lawmakers as they review the social media decision ahead of the 2020 election to block circulation of the hunter biden laptop story. listen. >> you wonder if the twitter executives shredded documents on the way out, i have no idea, we believe we have someone in elon musk who is willing to try to help republican investigations determine the extent to the government's involvement in censuring conservatives.
