couple of days. a lot of votes came in here in democrat heavy clark county. the flooded the votes that took her well ahead. the counting, obviously, as you mentioned, took four days. former president donald trump called the system here "corrupt" officials here said that was outrageous and uninformed. they pointed out that mr. trump and the republican candidate had made the same claims just two years ago after the presidential election and those claims had proven to be entirely without evidence of widespread fraud or corruption. that is the moment we have not heard any republicans from the republican side of any challenges to this account. in about 30 minutes just over my right shoulder we will hear from senator cortez masto.

california has the most undetermined races in the state's 13th district john duarte is currently ahead of adam gray by less than 100 votes. moving a little bit further south to the 47th district you have katie porter up about 5000 votes with republican challenger 72% of the vote in. there are a few reasons why california's count is delayed. the first midterm election were all registered voters were sent a mailing ballot. postmarked by election day are accepted for up to seven days following. republicans are expected to achieve a majority in the house, it is not by the margins at the gop had anticipated, had desired the new republican governor weighed in on why he feels that is. >> at the end of the day you cannot govern if you do not win. all that matters is winning in november. all of these candidates forgot

kamala harris. i think we are looking at even worse than what can said. i think we will have even more polarization based on what joe biden said at his press conference about not doing anything differently in the second part of his first term. >> speaking of polarization, that is one thing the president addressed. criticized by some democrats for harping on and continuing to focus on democracy, the election deniers in this sort of thing. wasn't there a deciding issue? they focused -- the american public listened to the presidents fears and rats about the perils to our republic. >> i think they did. more of a backlash from the so-called ultra republicans that senator schumer alluded to plus

the abortion issue and as rick scott, the head of the republican senate campaign committee acknowledged, there was no positive republican message other than we do not like joe biden, we do not like his policies. eric: what do they do in terms of trying to get a positive message? getting their own agenda on the board. >> i want to add to the list, reopening the benghazi investigation of hillary clinton i think that would be on the boards also. the republicans need leadership and they need to distance themselves from donald trump. i do not agree that the republican party is dead. it just needs to exert its leadership and its voice and its message. i expect donald trump on tuesday will announce another run for president.

before thousands of people yesterday. the safety board is now leading this investigation after taking over from the aaa and dallas overnight. i do warn you that this video is very disturbing to watch. you see a single pilot e63 king cobra which this looks like part of the press conference afterwards but hopefully we can pull up the moment of impact where the p63 crashes into the ballmer. this happened at 130 yesterday afternoon. you see a picture of the aftermath here. five people on board. one person, the pilot on the p63 , that b-17 popular for the united states in world war ii. as you mentioned, this event is supposed to showcase these historic planes. the b-17 sliced through and crashed into a fireball. you see more pictures here.

thousands of people saw this tragedy in person and one of them explained what it was like. listen to this. >> they were so close you could see the american flags on the plane. they were beautiful planes. it is horrible that it ended this way. >> trying to figure out why this crash happened. two of the six victims have been identified. both of them members of the b-17 crew. the members of the commemorative air force output on this show said these pilots are retired military or airline pilots. >> they are volunteers. there is a very strict process of training and hours. they are all dented very carefully. many of them have been flying for 20-30 years or longer. >> a lot of question still unanswered.

rewind the clock two days of segregation into fewer to know women rights. based on your reporting and tapping in the story, how do you answer why is that? >> thank you so much. again, it is wonderful being with you because i've known you all your life. i think that the question you are asking is a question that so many people asking these days, i think that the work that you do in so many of our journalists do is so important because what is missing i think in a lot of our discussion these days is serious conversation about our history. it is not threatening, it is empowering, it is building on what this country was met to be.

a more perfect union, not perfect, but that means we have a role to play like you and i do as journalists. we try to give people good. my colleague years ago used to say give people good information and they will do the right thing. i think that so much of what is going on in this country right now needs to have people like you and like me and others in the media to tell the truth because we need people these days, no matter their politics or their personal beliefs, but we need them to know what is good and do the right thing. >> absolutely. we as a people have a responsibility. not just journalists. how do we as human beings do

this? >> i think that it is important, well, sometimes we have to do a little work. we cannot just sit back and say things are bad, what are you going to do about it? we as journalists and citizens as well, have a responsibility to try and educate not only ourselves, but our children. one of the most important things that i am troubled by these days is the increasing failure of local news. our community papers are not being supported as they should have been and should be. that is how people get their information. that is how people learn what is going on in their own lives. the national news is important, to be sure, but we need

information about our local communities that will help us maintain a more perfect union. let's put it that way. >> i'm a big fan and advocate of local news. it is where i started. what is the most basic yet effective way to dispel stereotypes and see each other as fellow humans and also tell us why is this beneficial to the community of humanity. what is at stake if we do not all, as you say, get on the right track of loving and respecting thy neighbor. >> let me answer it with a bit of historical background. because, in some ways, we have been here before. we've had four presidents murdered in our country. that was not good for democracy and it was not good in a democracy. when we look at our history and look at the things that have

caused us grief, we have to look at our history and appreciate the grief that it caused and also the solutions that came about as a result because there are solutions. they are not necessarily new solutions, but they are solutions. i was just reading in my book some words from liz walker who is a journalist and was a pastor at a church in boston and she spoke at the funeral of a good friend and she said that power at its best is love implementing the demands of justice and justice at its best is power correcting everything that stands against love. now, that could be a little bit confusing to some people that don't know about love, but i think most of us about love and

appreciate being loved so we have to look at our fellow citizens as human beings, whether they agree with us on politics or journalism or whatever, but we have to embrace love and our people like, you know, i am the tk, that is a preacher's kid, you being from new orleans knows what that means. [laughter] part of my journalism is infused with the history that i learned from my parents and in the church. you know, not everybody is religious and this morning as i was leaving my apartment i ran into a dear neighbor in the same building and i told her where was going. she said you know, i am a republican but i don't necessarily agree with all republicans and i said that is fine, but that is what our

we are now joined by governor george pataki. >> thank you. >> what should the republican party do to try to regain the momentum and regain the success that it had previously? >> it was a very disappointing night. take a look around the country. what governor desantis has been able to deal. blowing out the democrats capturing miami-dade county, something republicans never did. governor abbott elected again. what governor young can is doing in virginia. they are doing well. to move forward, what we have to do is contrast our ideas with the people support with the democratic support which the people reject.

the problem is donald trump. the sooner he goes away the quicker we will have the republican party. not in his image but the governor's image and we will win everywhere. >> i can see some of the viewers throwing shoes at the tv set. what would you tell some of our viewers who certainly would not agree with you when it comes to former president trump. >> i am sure that they are. i understand that. this country has been mis- governed by elites. donald trump was the first to speak out against that. he has had his time. now he is tearing apart the republican party. he goes after desantis. that has got to stop. the only way that it stops as if we do not talk about him anymore. we talk about open borders. we talk about our energy. we talk about inflation.

the problems we have all across this country with getting young people to work because of the trillions in giveaway and we went. we followed him off a cliff in 2018. we followed him to the loss of joe biden to all people in 2020. we just had a horrible night. derek, i just want to say one other thing. seeing chuck schumer float is extremely troubling. he spent over $50 million in republican primaries electing maga candidates that he thought could not win. that is a despicable abuse of democracy. if he wants to talk about dividing a country, go look in the mirror, joe. >> talk about the candidates you just mentioned. governor desantis as well as former vice president mike pence. what do you see as the future of the republican party?

you can mentioned a bunch more candidates. what do you see going forward? in the shadow of former president trump? >> you know, eric, people like desantis, you had young kim up there. others across the country. then look at the democratic bench. kamala harris. maybe they run better overall again. i don't they run him again. my personal view is when you look at florida, when you look at how it's been governed so well, look at how well electoral he desantis did, i would have to say that if he runs, i would be behind governor to santos right away. there are other good candidates, if we look forward, we will win. if we look back with donald
