house has not yet decided despite republicans inching closer to the majority. and here is mark levin on the outcome of the election and the next steps for republicans. >> the democrats and the media are celebrating. what are they celebrating? there red wave. it never happened! it wasn't going to happen. not in the senate, for sure. but they are deluding themselves. the democrats made no progress in the senate, and they desperately needed to make progress this election cycle. when the math was 100%, 100%. and 2024 a horrendous situation with two-thirds it to mike two-thirds of the senate seat or up or democrat seats. and they are celebrating that they only lost the house by a relative few votes, but they lost the house.

the g.o.p. canal block these radical kook programs that biden is pushing. they conduct investigations. they can do what they need to do. but is this good enough? no, it's not good enough. if the republicans allow the same d.c. establishment that you see on tv all the time telling you how smart they are and they know everything, if they allow them to control the agenda and the money, the future is bleak. >> carley: let's bring an republican strategist chris spirit good morning to you. a little bit of optimism from mark 11 but a lot of republicans are surprised about the news ovr the weekend that the democrats e seat which is considered the best pickup opportunities for republicans. what happened there in overall, what happened no red waves that people anticipated? >> first off, i think mark is right in many ways, but some

things are going to have to change drastically for our party. i think we will have to frantically start opening up and truly embracing young people, minorities and women. i think it will be vitally important. he is right, we can't have the same establishment but we can have the same from a media standpoint representing the party. it is time to open up a little bit and have a little freedom and optimism and start to have young folks. obviously, that made history that came out for democrats. we certainly know that a lot of young people and a lot of women and minorities have conservative viewpoints but we need to embrace that more. and a stronger wave of support. >> you talk about embracing that in this new strategy that i think a lot of people would agree, especially you think about the gen z vote and

minorities but how can republican shift gears slightly to get that vote but still stay with their core values? >> that is a great question. look, we have to do things differently, frankly. we are going to have to start concluding that democratic party. i think it will come down from everything from grassroots to actually engaging in activities that actually embrace them. i think it will be vitally important. we need to go inside the schools and really, look, when you look at churches for example, many of the christians, many of us are, the values especially minorities, that is what they stand for and obviously being christened many values, that needs to be talked about more and embraced more. and i think if we had an approach that was a little more tangible and a little more realistic to them and

understood, i think it would be invited to the party. a lot of folks talk to me and many of my other folks that are commentators. they have these conversations but a quiet conversation. you look at these races and look how close these races are pure look at nevada. look at also some of the house races, california right now which i think still 50%. but races like that show how close things are right now. and i think looking forward to the process and what we have that is at stake. i think the party really has to cultivate that and really engaged to do a much better job right now. >> ashley: does the news out of nevada change anything when it comes to how much energy and money and time spent in georgia? how important is that georgia senate race now for both parties to pick up? >> i think the senator's right, nevada, georgia is very, very important right now especially

with a tie so to speak. obviously, a vp coming to cast a vote. i think georgia will be immense to make immensely important right now. when you look how many votes from the independent party 80,000 votes from the independent that ran, but enthusiasm is not going to be at the same in georgia in this runoff as it was this past week. so, i think that is a benefit for the the g.o.p. herschel walker has to get down there in the grassroots and reach out to a lot more communities. i think he has to reach out to people. and i think really, he needs to invigorate the g.o.p. base. one thing everything possible and high-ranking person. we need to get our folks out there to really engage in the process and really set a standard that says, we are here to support. it speaks for itself. we have high gas prices and inflation is absolutely out of control. things are bad in this country.

70% of people getting a second job to make ends meet, it is totally unacceptable. you have 50% of americans saying their financial situation is worse off than last year than it is right now. it is absolutely worse than last year. it is absolutely ridiculous and we have to shift a few things lightly to embrace and get them to the party. the one former donald trump moving towards likely 2024 presidential campaign announcement and some people are saying this could be too soon. this could potentially affect the georgia runoff race. what do you make of all of this and the timing of it? >> you know, i think what you say is accurate, but the approach come again i think it can affect things. and i don't know if it's for the best. i personally think that he should wait. i don't know if it can help or hurt georgia. again, it may not be the best right now. but look, there is a lot of

folks in the party split on former president trump running for office. it can cause a lot of issues on both sides of the aisle. i think it is advantageous just a little bit so we can get through this election. and i think his announcing -- the unfortunate part if president trump announces he will run for president of the united states, it will certainly take away much, take away from the georgia election and that will not be a positive thing for herschel walker. they need to focus on him right now and that is great that we are talking perhaps about a vote for -- i think everything needs to be focused on that race. and obviously the g.o.p. is doing the same. he has raised $3 million in the first day or two after announcing the runoff. everything has to be focused on that right now because that will be vital for the future. >> carley: president trump will announce on tuesday, it's running for president a very professional buttoned up

interesting about it, you talked about he was let go for not taking the issue seriously, but the whole purpose of why he was brought in the understanding that he wouldn't take the issue seriously. they wanted someone with law enforcement that would come in and keep the border open. he shouldn't be upset because he was doing exactly what they wanted him to do, which is, in fact, nothing. again, he is just a fall guy and the elections come i'm sure alejandro mayorkas will be the one going. but let go and continue the open border policy. >> carley: now answer the question now that he is gone, when anything change policy wise? and it sounds like you are saying, "no." >> i think this election gave the green light to continue open borders policy. i don't see them changing in any respect. they will put somebody else in

there with law enforcement background to keep it going. the real issue the borders most visibly but the immigration issue that they said they will not deport anybody. as soon as they set on soil, given every right that citizens, united states citizens. between illegal immigrants and united states citizens, this administration eyes, they don't have to pay the phone bill. >> carley: a democrat calling on to biden administration to do something when it comes to the southern border but his message is apparently falling on deaf ears. he said the president hasn't talked to him since he took office. listen to this. >> i haven't talked to him since he was running for election. but again, i offer myself as a resource because again, i don't just visit the border. i actually live here at the border. >> carley: understand they are over 200 democrats and the

caucus house but henry cuellar is an outspoken democrat. he represents a vulnerable district that they could have lost by one. a lot of hispanics as well. that comment came to a surprise to a lot of people. >> yeah, i think he is in a tricky situation with this border issue. because he can't just toe the line, the biden line of borders policy. he is making a lot of noise about it. but there is no reason for the president to visit him or visit the border. it's not this idea that the president or the administration doesn't know how bad it is. it is completely untrue. they know what is going on there and the drugs coming through. they know about human trafficking but they simply don't care appear at the highest priority is open borders. and henry cuellar the interesting thing is he's making a lot of noise about it but where has he been on voting when they were majority where he could have found something? it's almost like a green light

for this administration but, in fact, has he done anything? has he shown political will or will he speak out against it and allow the biden administration to continue with the border policy? >> carley: he has one guy and ad one democrat that feels that way. you see so many feeling the exact opposite when it comes to border policies. i want to hear your reaction to "the new york post" reporting on this morning. 40-year-old was found in possession of approximately 20,000 multicolored m- 30 fentanyl pills. charged with controlled substance in the first degree. the records show he was freed without bail. the city asked that he be held on $100,000 cash bail or $250,000 bond. the judge said, "no, he is free to go." >> talk about not taking issue seriously. last year 107,000 overdose

deaths. and we are turning at this administration and a lot of prosecutors are not even treating this issue seriously. we will continue my guess is we will have another record this year. but it is truly remarkable. in a significant amount of pills, they should be locked up. this is done. we are not tolerating this anymore. but again this administration and prosecutors allowing this to happen. other than for show, this network doesn't really cover with any degree of seriousness. it should be the leading story with so many people dying. these are young people dying every single day. >> carley: i remember when politico playbook criticized vilma lucian for trying to shock people when it came to southernr stories. because of what's going on with the south arm border is shocking and it deserves more attention. if the republicans take the house and it looks like it's

trending that direction, what would you want them to do when it comes to the border issue? what is the first thing they should be doing? >> one think they can take advantage. they have the ability to control -- they should insist on money to go to the border, border security. but again with this administration comic they won't enforce a lawsuit. they have a million border control agents. it was essential would be same. but public hearings bring alejandro mayorkas an end explain what is going on under oath. what are they doing with border patrol agents? punishing them for simply doing their jobs. this administration does everything they can to to discourage and actually punish people that enforce the law and uphold their own. it is a total disgrace. but the real reason with the administration not intent on forcing the law. >> carley: more to come in 2024 for sure.

going to continue to buy energy, supply arms and enabling russia to recap like in ukraine? >> carley: we are looking at the left-hand side of your screen the images of this bilateral discussion is set to take place. we are not expecting a joint statement from china and the united states after this meeting, but the president will be delivering remarks and taking questions 8:30 eastern time. you know, the relations between china and the united states, dr. grant, has sunk to new lows. in recent years nancy pelosi's trip to taiwan and trained as a response as a result. and both on the parts of china and the united states one biden administration said we have engaged in serious sustained thousands and thousands of hours of quiet diplomacy behind the scenes. that may come as a surprise to some who do not trust china and

other countries. what did you make of that comment? >> another excellent call. that is what the world is waiting to see is xi jinping going to cooperate and be a true statesman? but you know, we've been waiting 20 years for that to happen. that is why china was brought into the wto with the trade benefits. what we have seen over 20 years as economic espionage competition and military buildup. so, that would be great if xi jinping becomes a statesman and i hope we made progress today. but i thought that was a pretty stern opening by xi jinping. >> carley: a pretty stern opening by xi jinping and a meeting that will go down in history. the first time meeting face-to-face ahead of the g20 summit tomorrow that starts tomorrow and comes with so much going on with taiwan. obviously, the threat there. the war in ukraine and china becoming very close with russia throughout that war here at the

ongoing threat about what the nuclear ambitions of all of the actors between china, russia, iran, also korea and then seeming to group together in a strange alliance at this very time here that is wiping considered such an important meeting, dr. grant, thank you for joining us this morning. we will keep an eye on all things out of this meeting in bali. we appreciated. in the meantime back at home 65,000 residents in california will no longer have officers performing daytime patrols in their neighborhood. the sheriff's office is shutting them down because of their "catastrophic static gnomic staffing shortages." difficulties with recruitment and into the filmic retention of employees directly linked to pay disparities. and also an inability to prevent

enticing efforts. as a spokesman for the national police association sergeant betsy. thank you for being with us this morning. this is not something the police want. they don't want to say we will not go to work during the day. but what at what point will it resonate with everyone? they are not getting paid enough to do this job that they are doing. >> well, that is absolutely true. the trip has been warning the county board for well over a year. the deputies get paid $20,000 to $40,000 less than other law enforcement officers in the area. and i understand the sheriff's department have to staff the jail, and the jail is only staffed at 60% right now. and the largest county -- i'm sorry the largest city has a violent crime rate of 97% higher than any other city in the country. so this is catastrophic, not for the police officers but

catastrophic for the citizens. >> ashley: i think that is what people get mistaken that it will affect the people and not the police. but i do want to talk about this as far as not only the pay, but how dangerous? and not to get off topic too much but the sanitation worker -- this is nothing against them -- a sanitation worker gets paid more than city police officer. that is saying something. you talk about the police officer shot and killed in the line of duty. so far this year, it has been 50 officers. last year all of 2021 was 51. so we are almost at that break. what do you make of that? >> well, we truly have a war on cops in the united states. we have had over 105 police officer shot. 55 shot fatally. we have 60,000 police officers assaulted every single day in this country.

and yet, in california where they have this issue, california has so much police report happening in their department of justice investigates police officers who "shoot someone who is unarmed." and yet, when you look at those cases, people come out with an airsoft guns, knives, tech police officers with motor vehicles. that is one of the things law enforcement officers in california and other states, they just feel nullified. they are exhausted of being called racist and tired of being lied about. cops just want to do their job. that job is to protect their communities. but they need to be able to make a living wage to wing it. >> ashley: the living wage to do a job is dangerous as it is. what is the bare minimum. sergeant betsy brantner smith, thank you for getting up early with us. we appreciate it. >> thank you for having me.
