>> it is 8:00 on the east coast. an urgent manhunt is underway after three people were shot dead overnight at the university of virginia. a shelter in place is still in effect as they search for the suspect they believe is armed and dangerous. >> ainsley: ashley strohmier is here with the details. >> officials now confirm that three people are dead and at least two others are hurt after asserting their garage on campus. we are told that shots rang out after 10:00 last night, telling

students to shelter in place as they search for the suspect who they do warn is still armed and dangerous. multiple agencies are now involved, including police helicopters as they search across campus. really the entire region. this is the man they are looking for appeared christopher darnell jones jr. university officials say he is a student and a former football player. he was on the team as a fre freshman. they believe he is wearing a burgundy jacket, blue jeans, red shoes. he also could potentially be traveling in a black suv. this is a message on a leader hopes to have to never send, and devastated that the violence has visited the university of virginia. this is a traumatic incident for everyone in the community. class is canceled today. grief counselors being made available. the names of those victims have not yet been released, guys. back to you. >> steve: i am sure we will be

hearing more. thank you, ashley. >> brian: terrible. >> steve: coming up, another fox news alert. president biden has been meeting with chinese president xi jinping for the rest of the morning. >> ainsley: the meeting of the two global superpowers is the first since he has taken office, and we are expecting remarks from our president after the meeting probably around 8:30. >> steve: peter doocy is live with the very latest. peter appeared >> the very latest is that meeting just wrapped after about three hours. the president's motorcade is on its way to our location. we don't know how things ended, but we know that they began the summit of superpowers with a handshake, and president biden had a big smile. when they sat down at their respective long tables with the u.s. delegation on one side and chinese delegation on another. president biden reminded everybody listening that they go

way back. but from what we have been able to see, this is a very serious diplomatic meeting where president biden says he is hoping to lay out his redlines for the next two years. >> as the leaders of our two nations, we share responsibility, mind you, to show that china and the united states can manage our differences, prevent competition from becoming anything near conflict. and find ways to work together on the urgent global issues that require mutual cooperation. >> two of those issues are climate change and a potential chinese takeover of taiwan which experts say poses a national security threat to the u.s. >> the president has never been afraid to be forthright with leaders around the world. that is not something that he

struggles with. as he has been with president xi in the past, he will be very candid and forthright today. >> this is a two-way street, though, and xi we believe did have a chance to air his grievances with the u.s. as w well. >> in this time and age, grade changes are unfolding like never before. humanity are confronted with unprecedented challenges. the world has come to a crossroads. the world expects that china in the united states will probably handle the relationship. >> often after a meeting like this, you would see a stage with two microphones set up. there is not going to be a joint statement between president xi and biden pure dueling statements from the chinese side and the usi. we do expect president biden to take questions, to answer questions after this meeting that went about three hours, we

are told. three hour meeting. that is a lot of redlines. do you. >> steve: so, peter, i know you have asked president biden about his phone calls with president xi and the origins of covid. there is their first face-to-face meeting, and when they are sitting face-to-face, half of each table is wearing a covid mask, so you would think that they would talk about by the way, how did that get started? was it a lab? was it a market? what was up with that, sir? >> that is the great irony because we know at the very least china misled the world and my earliest days of the pandemic. the first u.s. case was over 1,000 is a go. and so, it is something to see all these folks still in the face masks on both sides of the table. over 1,000 days later. then not have a be a centerpiece of conversation or lease a curiosity, but we don't know

that we have questions about. the theft of our intellectual property. the american semiconductor technology. >> steve: they make all the chips that run our stuff. we have been talking to taiwan, but what about north korea? apparently earlier presi president biden, you know, aligned with the south koreans and japan, essentially reaffirming u.s. alliance with taiwan and also said north korea, you've got to do something about them popping off these missiles left and right. >> brian: he does not do anything without china being okay with it, effectively. >> steve: by the way, we had newt gingrich on. he knows a lot of things including about what this high-stakes meeting might actually be about. here's what he said. >> the chinese are not making any contribution to global warming. they are building as many new coal burning power plants as they can because their primary concern, frankly, is economic

growth, so they pay lip service and think that we are dumb enough that we ignore the reality. further, xi has been very clear that he wants china to prepare for war. he says openly we need to prepare for war. that is not hard to translate. you know what it means in english? we need to prepare for war. the fact that the biden administration cannot cope with this, is not a building of the, not investing in our defenses, i think xi probably looks dealing with biden as here is this dumb guy that i can manipulate. >> brian: yeah. we should be getting a read out of what transpired during the conversation within the next 10 or 15 minutes, and then we will see the president take the podium there at the resort in bali, and people are going to ask him what is going on. >> ainsley: looks like it is on time. >> brian: hopefully

peter doocy gets an opportunity to ask a question. >> steve: he is in the front row. he is 6'6". our team miss. >> ainsley: do they pick out that she will get a list of ten people. >> steve: somebody else chooses the list. >> ainsley: let's talk about the elections. arizona's race is still hard to call. the democrat versus cary lake, the republican. just one point separating them right now. >> brian: when you consider the amount of votes still outstanding, it was, as of yesterday, 265,000. the latest batch that dropped 154-45. but the fact that here we are on monday, still counting ballots raises a lot of questions were a lot of people. rightfully so. >> ainsley: she said she is going to fix the election system there in arizona. it's up to each state. if you're happy with that, great, keep it that way it is,

but we should know the results the next day. that's why many are calling for paper ballots so that the results are in the night, and we all can go to sleep and know who won on election day. carrie lake talked about that. >> it is being trampled, the way that we run our elections in arizona. i've been sounding the alarm for two years. nothing got done. we cannot be the laughingstock of elections anymore. when i am governor, i will not allow it. i just will not. is this competency or maladministration? it's outrageous. the good thing is that more people are waking up to the fact that arizona has real troubles when it comes to elections, but i am willing to wait until every vote is counted. i think every candidate should wait until every vote is cou counted. called to recuse herself july of 2021 right after we got into the race, recognizing that there is a major ethical problem there. obviously it just the optics of it looks bad.

and she did not do that, even though many people have been calling for her to recuse herself. it creates problems, to say the least. >> steve: what she is referring to is her opponent, katie hobbs, is the secretary of state. of course the secretary of state and i stayed for the most part runs the elections. so it is very tight, and the optics of it, you know, they are curious. she said she was not going to recuse herself, but ultimately every state has got to decide if you've got these policies where people can cure or fix a ballot for a week after the election or thinks we are going to wait for a week to see how many things came in that were postmarked and stuff like that, states have got to decide whether or not they want to become closer to the national norm. you look at the state of florida. back in 2000, they had a lot of problems. stuff like that. they went through a system, and they want from top to bottom and

fixed it. for the most part, you know exactly who won in florida that day. more states -- it would be great if more states were like that. >> so embarrassing for florida, and they fixed the problem. now it is nevada and arizona, allowing all of us to sit on pins and needles and wait to see who is going to win. we did find out over the weekend who won the senate races. >> brian: the left has been yelling about threats to democracy. even if every vote was cast properly and everything done legally in arizona, is a threat to democracy to call them to erode the trust in voters who feel like people counting ballots now a week behind closed doors, even if they are being -- even if it is fair, it creates uncertainty and mistrust. it carrie lake wins, which i think she will, because the ballots are a same-day ballots, many of which will go on the republican direction, it will be task number one for her to fix

this, and it could continue to be a model. we have to fix this. otherwise both sides will be pointing fingers that elections are knowledge it in the foreseeable future. >> steve: but ultimately, the democrat talking points about the threat to democracy and abortion and a woman's right to choose, they were very effective, and they turned out people to vote for the democrats. >> brian: if you can ballot harness for weeks -- >> steve: if it is legal in your state, change the rule. >> brian: here is how you could vote if you wanted to. definitely don't vote for them. you done with your ballot yet? you are right. you have got to change the rules the rules. >> ainsley: candidates did not make exceptions for abortions actually paid the price, and an example is pennsylvania, where they send no exceptions, and he lost by 14 points. dr. oz, same state, made exceptions, lost only by two points.

>> steve: sure. one of the issues we know is important to you is the border. tulsi gabbard joined steve hilton last night to talk a little bit about that. >> the unfortunate response you are hearing from people like chuck schumer saying that they now have a mandate the margins are here then, just shows how out of touch with the american people that they are. you know, they are out of touch with the reality that our borders are wide open. these are the kinds of things that they need to address few democrats, republicans need to work together to realize these open borders are posing a threat to our country. use the power of the person, the house of representatives, make sure that those who have crossed illegally into this country under biden's open-door policy -- have been violated by overreach of our government. there is a lot to do. they can do this if they put the interest of the american people first. >> steve: let's see if the house can get something done. sounds like they are going to be under the management of

republicans, and the senate probably, you know, you got 50 on the democrat side. they could have 51. they would have subpoena power. that would be bad for republicans. >> ainsley: looks like the g.o.p. will win the house. that means they control the purse. >> brian: that means investigations. >> steve: so stay tuned. we still don't know. election week continues. [laughs] quarter after the top of the hour. we have some news from... >> ainsley: georgia. some breaking news at that. standoff in georgia has just ended. after several hours and two officers are reportedly heard. the incident started with a man screaming inside a home. when officers went inside, he apparently started shooting, but none of the officers were hit. one did break his wrist, and the other has a cut over her eye. the suspect has surrendered. police have not released his identity.

russian software disguising itself as american reportedly found its way into the u.s. army and databases. i will wake you up. according to reuters, thousands of smartphone apps contain code -- and allegedly deceived to the companies into believing that it was based in the u.s. and reportedly changing its location to places like maryland and california. claiming that it has no connection to the russian government. white sign language interpreter is suing, claiming that he was fired because of his skin color. he joined us earlier. watch this. >> you are a different race, it is wrong. you are not allowed to fire somebody because of that reason. there could have been 12 other reasons for it. >> reaction comes after an email from the nonprofit theater development fund, telling him "it's no longer appropriate to have a white interpreter represent by characters.

unlimited power, probably for the rest of his life, and we know that he has extremely ambitious plans to make china the number one superpower both economically and militarily, so i would not trust him, frankly, as far as i can throw them. there is a bit of precedent here where joe biden met vladimir putin last summer, you may remember, and sized him up. he then watched joe biden do that catastrophic withdrawal from afghanistan. i think he sensed weakness. he does not have a stomach for the fight, and the rest is history. invading ukraine a few months later. it's incredibly important that president biden stands up to him properly and it is not just talk because otherwise you will see china move into taiwan, and all hell will break loose. >> steve: remember when he said to president putin don't you go invading ukraine? and he did, and what did we do? so it is to stop them?

joe biden can say look, you guys are currency manipulators, you've got global human rights violations, you are stealing our international property, intellectual property, that is, but we've got no leverage. they make all of our stuff over there. >> right. i'm afraid america, like many countries, has become far too reliant on china economically, and they pretty much have us all over a barrel. there has been a long period of several decades where we've allowed them to get ever more powerful economically and militarily. to be fair to donald trump, he was sounding the alarm about this 30 years ago. why are we allowing china to dominate us economically like this? now we are where we are. it is going to be very difficult to navigate, particularly with the president who feels pretty well omnipotent and flexing his muscles and wants to establish china as the number one superpower. we will see what happens.
