"fox news at night," i am trace gallagher in los angeles. and breaking tonight just one week after the midterms, the 2024 races is under way. former president trump is back in. not all republicans are happy, in fact, one of mr. trump's gop rivals is already making his

respects won 217 house seats so far. just one short of the 218 to gain a majority of the 435 seats body. democrats are not far behind at 209 seats tonight. putting the spotlight on california's third congressional district where is kevin kylie holds the each. he told our laura ingraham that he's ready to deliver change and his victory would give republicans the 218 seats they need to claim the majority. on tuesday, republicans voted to designate california congress, kevin mccarthy for house speaker. questions remain about mccarthy's ability to secure his spot as speaker of the house. he'll need 218 votes on the floor to officially become speaker. if republicans went over 218 seats and they are split between him and biggs, it

could be cut out for mccarthy. >> switching over to the senate, senate eric scott announced tuesday he's running to unsiege mcconnell as minority leader. in a letter to his republican colleagues, he wrote, "i believe it is time for the senate republican conference to be more far bold and resolute than we have in the past," he also added this. >> well, i don't own this job, anybody in the conference is certainly entitled to challenge me. i welcome the contest. >> if mcconnell wins, he would become the longest serving leader in the history of the senate. >> matt, back to you a little later on. much criticism is being
