orchard. a couple hundred single adults crossed in this area with a border patrol source telling fox news here in this del rio sector, just since october 1st, there have already been nearly 50 thousand illegal crossings, totally unimpeded. house republicans respond to a crisis like this when the federal government, as led by the executive joe biden, refuses to act. well, today, it appears one republican actually did something about it. or did he? texas governor greg abbott, seem to declare an invasion is in progress at the southern border. now, under the constitution of the united states and the constitution of texas, that move would authorize texas to independently crush the surge of illegal immigrants without needing any approval from the federal government. specifically, greg abbott's decision to invoke the invasion clause would allow texas to deploy the national guard and texas dps to remove illegal

immigrants. but in his press release today, texas governor greg abbott said he would remove illegal immigrants to the border. wait to the border. ken cuccinelli, he's the former attorney general of virginia and a big leader in this push for states to declare an invasion points out to the border is not deportation. it wouldn't stem the tide of illegal immigrants, and it doesn't invoke the full constitutional power of declaring an invasion. so is it just a press release, another example of words, or is this potentially leadership ? republicans now have the house at any moment tonight. it could be called that the republicans now have a majority in the house. and then the question becomes, might they be able to lead in actually solving the border crisis or maybe returning our elections to pre pandemic election laws or maybe even being that sorely lacking? sober leadership? we need before we extrapolate

at kennedy space center, joins us now live, phil. what does it look like there where you are. it looks very exciting and very promising because for about the past hour and a half people were a little skeptical that this launch was actually going to make the two hour window, but nasa teams resolved the outstanding issues that the liquid hydrogen leak as well as an ethernet cable for one of their radar sites for the range, and right now, the countdown clock, says 42 seconds and this is a historic mission. it's returning. the first step to returning humans to the lunar surface. this is rms test flight number one. it's crude. a couple of mannequins in there get all censored up. the next mission will be with four astronauts also just orbit the moon and then come back, and then the third one will actually put two people a man and a woman. on the lunar surface. we are at less than 15 seconds away from launch. let's take a listen in

to the nasa team. here we go. oh, man, hydrogen burn off. igniters initiated 765. four stage engine start. 321 booster ignition. and lift off of artemus one. we rise together back to the moon and beyond. engines on the course stage in two solid rocket boosters propelling the vehicle at 128 mph. very good. good control on the roll from teams in mission control, houston all good calls so far 30 seconds into the flight, artemus one. first milestone will be for the past their backs q about one minute and nine seconds into launch. this is the greatest period of atmospheric force on the market. traveling 607 mph. from

we've still got four good engines on the core stage. next up will be looking for the service module fearing to separate. this is 3 15 by 15 ft fairing panels providing structural support protecting the service module separated about three minutes and 11 seconds into flight in very shortly thereafter will be followed by the launch. abort system separation. just over three minutes into the flight of artemis, one now traveling over 4060 mph 83 miles downrange. we just had confirmation that the service module fearing has separated. and that the launch abort system paras have fired separating those from orion as well for future crewmen. you've been watching special coverage of national nasa's launch of the artemis one moon mission, and we're going to go back to

phil keating, who is on the ground there at kennedy space center, and phil looks so far everything looks like it went smoothly. a lot of applause and shearing here at the kennedy space center as the big space launch system that is the most powerful rocket that exists on this planet lifted up the orion capsule, and it's now flying off towards an orbit around the earth and eventually all the way out to the moon. it's a 42 day long mission. this is all about testing everything getting data. testing the capsule the capsule's heat shield when it comes back to earth for the splashdown is going to be coming in at 25,000 miles an hour and that is making it very, very hot and all safe enough for astronauts to get in there. so this is about 12 years in the making billions upon billions of dollars and many delays, but we are on our way back to the moon . phil thank thank you for that
