bali. white house correspondent peter doocy is there with the latest: peter, last time we left you the president was will sleeping in mysteriously. we didn't know if he was sick or not. what happened after? >> well, what happened is the white house aides that are traveling with the president went and woke him up. something has to be really, really big for that to happen. for somebody traveling with the president to knock on the door of the hotel room and say we need your input on this right away. but, that is exactly what went down yesterday just right after we talked as -- and the way that poland's president is describing this now is unfortunate accident which lines up with president biden's initial caution that this missile likely was not launched from russia. >> >> there is preliminary information that contests that. i don't want to say that until we completely investigate. it's unlikely in the minds of

the trajectory that it was fired from russia. but, we'll see. >> we never see president biden in a t-shirt in a hotel room like in this photo but he phoned poland's president duda right away as the leaders considered the implications of a potential russian attack against a nato partner. there was some chatter of him invoking nato's article 4, which would be a formal consultation when a member feels threatened. also make sure this didn't call for possible invoking of article 5. where the military alliance would launch a military response. poland's duda says what happened is an isolated incident. there is no indication that more will take place. the north atlantic alliance is on standby. we have strengthened the readiness of the polished armed forces including the air defenses. our planes will be supported by allied planes. we act calmly and peru did he wantly. the very crafted schedule of g-20 events yesterday was thrown completely out the window as the

exactly that when it comes to things like leadership, discipline, training, logistics, maintenance, their industrial base, that russia is a hollow bear. they are being sidelined as a conventional military force. they still have a very viable nuclear threat. but, again, you know, we have a major world power that is now being sidelined so that we can focus on the greatest threat this country has ever faced and that's the chinese communist party. and the brave ukrainian people led by zelenskyy have done that. but, we do -- the europeans have got to step up. i want to make that point loud and clear. once again, the united states is taking on this burden of helping -- of helping defend freedom. >> brian: yeah, germany is not doing what they said they were going to do. we're the ones writing the checks. publicly pressure them to do what they're supposed to do. >> and i'm

been rumblings that they might be running as well like mike pence and ron desantis, youngkin, hogan, asa hutchison, tim scott, pompeo, nikki haley and chris christie just to maim a few. anything can happen. but what's your reaction to this. >> well, to your point on anything can happen, i mean, a lot of people thought tom cotton would be on that list as well and for his family. we are going to be rife with speculation. we don't even know if joe biden is going to run at this point i have got to tell you what. i thought that speech last night was incredible, guys. it was focused. it was disciplined. the tone was serious because we are in a serious moment in world affairs. in our country right now, i think if the president stays forward-looking, outlaying how he is going to build on his agenda and accomplishments, i think he is going to have a very good run. one of the lessons from this midterm is that people want results. they are tired of the rhetoric.

they want results that they are going to feel on their kitchen table. and they want to feel more secure in their lives. in their cities on the border, dr. on the world stage. and economically. e. and i think the president makes this a security election and about security in our lives. that's going to be a winning formula. and i will support getting back to that in america first agenda all day long. >> steve: he certainly got in early. it's 721 days before the election. so, stay tuned. >> yeah. >> steve: in the meantime there is an election coming up in your chamber, house republican leadership elections, and so far the speaker nominee kevin mccarthy and then you got steve scalise running unopposed. the g.o.p. whip, tom emmer of indiana. elise stefanik and the chair richard hudson ran unopposed as well. we heard behind the scenes the freedom caucus was, you know, pushing at leader mccarthy. what was going on?

what do they want? >> well, look, a lot of it is, you know, kind of the mechanics of how our conference works. how we decide what bills go to the floor. when amendments are accepted. who our committee chair men and women are. and, you know, they want transparency there. they don't want all of the power to be in the hands of just a few. i think those are reasonable demands, mccarthy is listening to those demands and he got, you know, i think it was something like 170 to 30 in terms of, you know, our support for him to be our speaker, and that's different than january 3rd where he needs to get 218 out of say 220. so, we are going to continue to get out of a lot of internal family discussions so we can get there and he can be speaker and get accountability to covid origin on down the list people demanding. >> steve: horse trading going on

behind the scenes to the run up to the official election. >> absolutely. we elect him as our speaker and he needs to get 218. if we went up with a majority of 220, that's tight. that's going to be a lot of conservations. but i think he is going to get there. >> brian: andy biggs has 40 votes or something like that. would very a shot? is there anybody else viable? probably not. there is about 10 seats left. where do you think you are going to end up? right now technically 217. kevin it 218. where do they think you are going to end up. >> 220, 222. sadly, this is up to california vote counting. which never gives me a warm and fuzzy at all. i think that's one of the things we have got to take a hard look at. we need to know these results on election night. we need to have competence on our democracy and republic and whether you have foreign actors looking to muck around are mucking around inside our election. we need -- not to say that we need to make america like

florida but, come on. we need to know within hours. >> steve: california needs to change their state voting laws then. because what is going on is completely legal. >> nevada, on down. and then, you know, we need to do some soul searching in terms of why we didn't do better on our messaging but also, you know, look. we need to, i think, move somewhat away from this same day from accountability or from showing up to vote mail works for our rural voters. mail works for our senior citizens. if you do it right, you have integrity mail can really work for us and has in the past. >> ainsley: trump said last night he would want voter i.d., same day voting. we find the results that night and paper ballots. but isn't it up to each state. >> steve: yeah. >> ainsley: if he won would he be able to invoke that. >> brian: no. each state. >> it's up to the states. the states determine how elections are conducted.

>> that was no surprise to me. i had a very tough primary against another incumbent. i prevailed by a wide margin 19 percentage points. i woke up one day and there is joe manchin's face on tv it personally attacking me and saying things that weren't true. he will went after me in a primary, which i thought was pretty arrogant of him. and, of course, he lost. i think he has lost touch. i think his votes these days, like he voted against amy coney barrett but voted for ketanji jackson brown and these court votes are very important. i think he has left the state and he is too liberal for the state and i don't know, it's time for a change there. it's been long enough. and i think west virginia is a strongly conservative state. people here, they like their faith, their values, which are under attack these days, inflation is killing us here in west virginia. a lot of folks live on fixed income. joe manchin has voted on spending ghals joe biden wanted to vote for. spending and inflation is out of control. the last thing he voted for hurt

the coal industry. which is huge in our state. i don't think he represents virginia well. >> brian: people say well, joe manchin against packing the court. only one filibuster, only one to stand up against massive build back better? what do you say to that? >> sometimes he acts conservative but when push comes to shove is he a loyal partisan democrat. he just couldn't say no to joe biden and chuck schumer over there. and he went along with their agenda. i would say now we have the house of representatives, likely republican. those extremist it views are off the table. we need a senate, i would just say beings look -- this is donald trump's it second best state he voted to impeach donald trump twice. he must not be thinking about voting for re-election. impeachment hearings were a sham and outrage to the country. whether you support donald trump or not. the impeachment process was a complete farce and outrage for joe manchin to vote to impeach donald trump i think betrayed west virginia voters.
