8:01 am
democrats insist it is all a political charade and retribution for investigations into president trump. jim jordan is one of the republicans leading the charge. >> they haven't replied to any of the requests. they've now they set up a special office that democrats have to come after mr. comer, mccarthy and myself and attack the people doing the investigation. what we are going to do is everything we can within the constitution, do our duty to get the facts and truth to the american people. >> tony bobulinski, who claims to be a whistleblower has gone on record multiple times accusing both bidens of corruption. he says this about republicans' new probes. >> it is crazy we're still talking about this two years after i went public.
8:02 am
1,000% joe biden is the big guy. in the last variety of months multiple whistleblowers have come forward with a trove of facts that corroborate everything i've said as well as adding information to it. and i think the american people will see those facts. i think they will be shocked by those facts and hopefully justice is served. >> joining "focus" now republican congressman andy biggs of arizona a member of the house judiciary committee. first we begin with griff jenkins in washington. >> good morning. incoming oversight committee chairman james comer says he is making this a priority because the american people care about whether or not their leaders are compromised and he believes they have evidence pointing directly to the president. >> what we proved today was joe biden lied to the american people when he said he had no knowledge of hunter biden's shady business dealings. that is a complete -- complete lie and denied having any

anything russia or china could have ever hoped to accomplish. >> what will get subpoenas? no plans for president biden yet but we're likely to see hunter called up to the hill. >> thanks for going into the details for us. a former advisor to president obama has this take on the upcoming house investigations. >> they'll try to weaken biden with these investigations. what will end up happening is they will strengthen him because they are going to overreach. they will be talking about things that people don't care about. i would be shocked if something real is uncovered here particularly on president biden and his family. >> joining me now is andy biggs of arizona. thank you so much for taking time for us today, sir. your colleagues have laid out this long list of investigations that includes everything from origins of covid pandemic to the botched withdrawal from afghanistan. talk to me about where
8:05 am
investigations into the president's son and biden family's foreign business dealings rank among that list? we have not gotten a clearance on that. >> well, so for the oversight committee it's the first investigation we're going forward with. the reason is because there are implications that have come forward everything from tony bobulinski's testimony which you played a little bit of earlier to the suspicious activities reports where there is more than 150 of those from hunter biden to a laptop that was suppressed and what was in there was not investigated for over a year by the d.o.j. on one hand you have that going. in the judiciary committee you'll look at the d.o.j. and f.b.i. and politization and abuse of power against the american people. so those two kind of will go hand in hand for those two committees. >> republican leadership, incoming house republican
8:06 am
leadership says their top tier priority is getting a handle on inflation, working on the economy and helping to steer the american people forward. how does that investigation in particular forward your party's aim? >> well, we have multiple committees and the committees that will deal with the inflation are those that deal with federal spending. if we were to diversify and put the appropriations subcommittees of the authorizing committees you would see that come to those two committees. you won't. they will go through the 12 bill process we call regular order to get the federal spending down. and that should be done by june 1st so that we can actually do something. that will be the first time since i've been in congress, if we do that. i think we will. that will come from the appropriations and budget committees and not oversight and judiciary committees. >> your critics say the investigation into hunter biden
8:07 am
in particular is backward looking rather than forward-looking. what do you say to that? >> well, you can never do an investigation looking forward because you are looking at events that have happened in the past that in fact have bearing on the future. so we start talking about hunter biden, we need to talk about what did the d.o.j. and f.b.i. do. did they suppressed? the answer is yes. was president biden compromised, has he been compromised. it looked like potentially yes. you have 150 suspicious activities report. they changed the rules from keeping congress getting those. of course an investigation will be backward looking. that's the only way you can look at an investigation. you do an investigation backward looking to correct the future activity so you don't have the kind of thing in the future. >> i want to make sure i ask you

about this. top tier democratic leadership is making way for new blood. hakeem jeffries is announcing that he plans to lead the party. speaker pelosi and steny hoyer the handing the reins to a younger generation of lawmakers. they say pelosi's tenures offers lessons. no denying mrs. pelosi has been an effective leader. the most powerful speaker in decades. were republicans paying attention? last election the republicans have a small majority. the narrow margin calls for a strong speaker and republican unity. when it comes to you, sir, you've made clear you are challenging kevin mccarthy for the speakership. listen to him this week. >> do you think you will have the votes by january to become speaker? >> look, we have work cut out for us.
8:09 am
we have a small majority and need to listen to everybody in the conference. >> do you want democrats to support? >> we'll get there as republicans. >> you say you won't be part of that small majority. a quote from your op-ed. i can't vote for kevin mccarthy as house speaker. talk to us about that. >> look, one of the things that we would do if we were going to truly unify is move power away from the center. one of the things the "wall street journal" fails to understand is that nancy pelosi actually consolidated and centralized power to herself so most decisions in congress on four people, the republican democrat leaders in both the house and senate. the rest of us were expected to go along. i agree with kevin mccarthy all republicans voting for all republicans. it is what will happen here. i don't know if kevin will get the 218. we disagree. there are reasons that the american public say we need a change in leadership. they do say that.

there isn't any place i go, whether my district in the state or around the countries hundreds of times every year people don't make that the number one issues. will you give us new leadership? we watch what happened when we don't actively fight and use every tool we have to slow down the biden administration. that's what people want and that's what new leadership would be expected to do. >> unity inside the republican party is in congress. your own colleague says it will take even more than that to deliver for voters. listen. >> there are republicans and there are democrats willing to work together. i've done that over the last two years and i want to increase and improve that kind of work and reach across the aisle. there won't be a lot we agree on. where we do if we want to get anything to the president's desk signed into law in the next two years it will require us to work together and negotiate and maybe make some concessions.
8:11 am
>> are you interested in any of that working across the aisle and making concessions? >> look, first of all, we do work across the aisle whenever we can find commonality. if i call up the leader of the tuesday group a moderate liberal leaning group we can talk and we can reach those accords and we've done it. i have actually sponsored with hakeem jeffries the jack act that became law. yes, it happens. but at the same time you have to remember that we were given republican majority because the biden administration has failed on their policies so abyss mallly and we have to take on those policies and where you will have republican unity. this notion that you can't have somebody contest speakership is some kind of evidence of
8:12 am
disunity is my opinion bogus. we should have a robust, vigorous, in-house family debate in the direction we should go and how to use the tools. more tools than conceding to the democrats. how about using every procedural tool we have and every must-pass piece of legislation as leverage. the constitutional discipline. we have all these tools to use. >> we're running out of time. i want to thank you for joining us. interesting talking to you as it always is. thanks for taking time. >> you bet. thanks. >> team biden is hoping to keep the student loan bail-out plan alive planning to take the case all the way to the supreme court. this in the wake of judges claiming presidential overreach. plus homeland security secretary mayorkas contradicted the white house on border security.

undocumented migrant sex offenders in the span of just two weeks. marc thiessen, "washington post" column shift joins me now. let's start off with the homeland security's comments yesterday. he said the entire hemisphere is suffering a migration crisis, yet somehow the white house believes that the united states is managing to exempt itself from this crisis because there is no crisis at the southern border. >> this is the inflation spin applied to the southern border. biden administration claims they aren't responsible for inflation. we have global inflation. inflation is worse in other places. of course, no one believes that and everyone knows it was the 1.9 trillion spending bill that unleashed the inflation. they're doing it now on the border. they think the american people are stupid. here is the problem they face. they haven't learned -- they are failing to learn the lessons of

the 2022 election. if you look at the fox news voter analysis, the american people disapproved of joe biden on every single issue that was tested including his border control policies. they think that because they won by running this anti-maga strategy somehow it was an endorsement of their policies. they won in spite of their policies not because of them. they are not having a reckoning with the failures that they've unleashed on the country. they won two elections by campaigning against donald trump. if they don't have donald trump to kick you around anymore they'll pay a price at the polls including the southern border disaster. >> we've been airing infrared footage of border crossings. do you ever worry the american people, like war footage in a sense. we see this constantly, terror and trauma and death and suffering along the southern

border. do you ever worry that people will grow immune to it at some point? >> you do but on the other hand if you think about it, wars generally happen far away. americans are living with the consequences of this every day. they lost control of the house because of their border policy. ask yourself why did the republicans manage to flip four seats on long island? because of the crime that has been unleashed in large part because of the fentanyl pouring across the southern border. they lost two seats that they had long held in southern texas. that was as a result of these border policies. americans feel these policies unlike the war policies of the past. and as soon as they can't kick donald trump around they are going to pay a price for it. >> let's talk about this. the biden administration is fighting for its stalled student

loan forgiveness program and asking the supreme court to save the program. two federal courts put a hold on the program ruling the president does not have constitutional authority to bypass congress in order to enact this measure. new op-ed in the "washington post" says extending the student loan moratorium is a terrible idea. allowing 35 million americans to delay paying their federal student loans with a questionable policy when it began in march 2020 during the depth of the pandemic crisis. it is a terrible idea now. moratorium began as a way to deliver some relief and extra funds to people as much of the economy shut down because of the coronavirus. today it's a different story. president biden called the economy strong as hell last month. unemployment at one of the lowest levels in decades. there is no crisis to justify extending this costly policy. what do you say? >> so just for the record that's not me conservative columnist at the "washington post." that's the editorial board that
8:24 am
endorsed joe biden. so even they are saying this is wrong. joe biden has no constitutional authority to do this. he will lose this case in the courts because the president of the united states, congress has the power of the purse, the president of the united states doesn't have the power to spend up to $1 trillion. where does he find it? using something called the hero's act, a 2003 law passed over 9/11 to make sure men and women of the military called up to fight the war on terror didn't default on loans. it gives the president authority in a national emergency. he said the pandemic emergency give himself the authority for people who never served. he is arguing title 42 should be lifted in the courts because the pandemic energy is over but then he is saying this should be allowed because the pandemic emergency is not over. which is it? is it over only for illegal immigrants or is it not? he doesn't have this authority and making weak arguments and it
8:25 am
is not going the fly. >> what about the moratorium reverting the plan b seeking to extend the moratorium on payments until it works its way through the courts. does that hold up legally? >> i don't know. we'll see what challenges come to it. keep in mind when i mentioned that fox news voter analysis which showed he was under water on every issue. he was under water on student loans as well. the majority of americans don't support it and part of the reason why working class americans are abandoning the democratic party in droves at the polls because people who never went to college don't want to pay the student loans of college graduates and even doctors and lawyers and -- most of the student debt is graduate degrees. so why should a working class person who goes to the doctor pay that doctor's medical school loan or needs a lawyer and goes to pay his lawyer's law school loan? so this is a big dividing issue within the democratic coalition.

would be wrong. i will tell you something. when you look at all of these different things. you look at the cheat sheets we see over and over again. when you look at him wandering off at the white house easter egg hunt and having to be put back on post by the easter bunny and walking off stage and shaking hands with people that aren't there and telling journalists i'm supposed to call on you and not you. the sense to voters this is somebody not in control but somebody that is being controlled. and even in these sort of tightly-controlled atmosphere. i will give the biden administration one thing. they are tightly controlled how the president is seen by the most people. these are situations when you go into him running for president again possibly in 2024 that are not going to be as tightly controlled. there will be more gaffes and more stuff like this and a bigger spotlight on them. i think that the people that do not want biden to run know this.
8:50 am
none other than michelle obama. probably the most popular democrat on earth kind of hemmed and hawed a little bit when asked whether or not he should run again. a lot of people are realizing this is maybe not the route they should go in 2024. even democrats. >> is the party comfortable with, okay with the president's recent gaffes on the world stage? >> every president has had gaffes on the world stage and national stage. >> they have but they don't often just to be fair they don't off en conflate the names of countries separated by more than half a planet earth. >> they probably shouldn't but it happens. i'm a trial lawyer and i conflate names all the time. i have cheat sheets when i talk to a jury, when i managed 100 lawyers. i also made sure that we did not want to make mistakes. he is on the world stage if you
8:51 am
will. why shouldn't he have a cheat sheet? if age is an issue, the issue should be is he able to do the job? so far he has been beating the gop at every corner. if he is incapable of doing the job, right, then that's a fair assessment. i don't want to discriminate against him because of his age. we're all getting older. >> the story of cheat sheets is a story about confidence, right? does his own party across the board have confidence in his ability and his capability moving forward? >> i have to jump in and say -- >> let me get rob in here quick. >> i just wanted to say getting republicans back into the house republicans took back the house. i don't see that as biden beating the gop at every corner. i see them as taking a victory lap because they didn't get beat as bad as they expected. >> that's a win.
8:52 am
the cheat sheets are one thing. but his capabilities are another. it is not a matter of confidence, it is a matter of is he -- does he have the stamm knee quite frankly to even do another campaign. he is 80 years old. that's fire. if he is 80 and can do the job it's an unfair hit to say because he has the gaffes somehow he is not capable. he is very capable. he is in office right now and getting things done and even the gop can't disagree with that. >> let's move to this. republicans have retaken the house. one moderate democrat is furious at the far left wing of the party. an oregon congressman who lost to a progressive in may and that person lost the seat to a republican. he tells the "washington post" we're leaving the center wide open for republicans. we have to be a bigger tent party. the piece says president biden's party had its own problems with what everyone calls candidate
8:53 am
quality. the difference is that unlike republicans, democrats aren't ready to talk about it. new hampshire republican governor weighed in with this. >> you have all the other national stuff happening that scared a lot of folks. the extremism that's out there and it was just a rejection of that extremism. i don't think anyone likes the policies out of d.c. no one likes paying $6 for a gallon of heating oil. people said we can work on these policies later but as americans we have to fix extremism right now. >> scott, you are up first this time. >> i think sununu is right. the extreme left and extreme right scared the middle. most americans are moderates. in fact, you all covered democrat far left extremists a lot more than the core of the party. they aren't as vocal. quality candidates are important. >> we don't cover them more to be fair. we cover what they say and when
8:54 am
those riffs become laid bare and mainstream media is taking them apart. >> that's a fair comeback. the reality is that moderates make up this country and quality candidates matter on both sides, if you will. and the white house conservative democrats or the white working class haven't voted for a democratic president to put in the white house since lbj. the democratic party has to figure out we should have a big tent and what have you and we need white working class voters but are they going tomorrow back or focus on our base on black, brown, gay and women voters. a challenge for the democratic party. >> are white working class voters going back to the democrats? >> white working class voters are never going back to democrats. the republicans and g.o.p. need to do a good job at getting to
8:55 am
that white voter base. let me tell you something right now. the far left extremism among the democrat party is not something that's ended. when you think about the justice democrats. the group that endorsed aoc, all these other people. >> sorry to cut you off. we're coming up to a break. we'll get you both back. thanks for watching "the faulkner focus." "outnumbered" is coming up after the break. to pay down high rate credit cards, personal loans, even car loans. veterans get more at newday. there's a different way to treat hiv. it's every-other-month, injectable cabenuva. for adults who are undetectable, cabenuva is the only complete, long-acting hiv treatment you can get every other month. cabenuva helps keep me undetectable. it's two injections, given by my healthcare provider, every other month. it's one less thing to think about while traveling. hiv pills aren't on my mind.
