9:01 am
details about the case. the four teens were found stabbed to death early sunday morning in the house they shared. police have still not identified a suspect or a person of interest. they say all four returned home around 1:45 a.m. sunday after a night out with friends. kaylee and madison were captured on video outside a food truck. the footage could hold vital clues. we learned two other roommates were home at the time of the murders. investigators are speaking with the two students. police say they're potentially the key to this whole thing. meantime, the heart broken father of one of the teens revealed that his daughter's body showed that she tried to defend herself from her killer. and kaylee's sister warned other students on instagram, nobody is in custody and no one is safe. julie, this whole story, so
9:02 am
tragic. the more we learn raises more questions as well. i have to set the scene a little bit. i went to college nearby there. we would visit the university of idaho often because it's just across the border from washington stated. 12,000 is the college population. they just had their largest incoming freshman class of all time in 2022. now the campus is a ghost town with most students having fled home after this horrible tragedy. >> first of all, sorority life is huge. sorority and fraternity life is huge. >> it's a party town. a lot of these homes have parties. it's nothing new. every fraternity house has a party. the timeline is really scary. first of all, one of the teen's father said they spoke on the phone at midnight. she was perfectly fine. now in that video, you see two
9:03 am
of the girls at a food truck at 1:45 a.m. getting pasta. they had a one-mile walk home. but in that video, this is where i think the investigators will find answers. there were a couple of guys that were in the area kind of off in the distance silently following them but they didn't get video of them on the walk home. it's interesting to note that seems like the edged object, the weapon was a knife and the same knife was used in all of the murders. the question is one or two people involved. that leans to possibly most likely the murder weapon likely was used by one person. there could been an accomplice. if there's one knife, the same knife was the knife that was used for all four murders likely one knife is what the coroner is saying in his investigation. it seems that the knife wounds were down by the same weapon. now it's a question of how in the world did they get in. the father says there's a combination on the lock in the
9:04 am
front. maybe they got around the side, the sliding glass door was open. it's concerning. i absolutely think the school should lock down until they catch whomever did this >> so many unanswered questions. kayleigh, three victims are from a small community. this town to your point, it's a college town. it's small. it's close knit. it was cold there on that night. there's a lot of sort of really tragic and heart breaking images coming out of the footage that we have. the blood dripping out of the side of the home. i can't imagine what the families are going through. to julie's points, there's a lot of complexities or haziness around the circumstances that we have yet to learn that perhaps are exacerbated because it's a college town. if you're out, you're having a beer and you get pasta at 2:00 a.m. and sleeping late, there's a lot of factors here that we don't yet know about for sure. but that might be in part contributing to the questions police have and to the fact that
9:05 am
are not any clear-cut answers how the person got in, why xyz. >> as one of the parents or multiple family members have said there's no room for speculation here. these kids were just kids trying to have a normal might on a college campus and then this happened. the speculation i think needs to go. as you do on this show often, it's important to talk about the victims. you've said their names many times. one of the moms that hosted the vigil, not a mom of one of the victims that knew the victims through her daughter said they were vibrant, wild, care-free and loving. the bright stars here on this earth are upstairs looking down on us now. every one of them are the most amazing kids i've ever met in my life. every account says these kids were just really, really great kids. obviously should have never happened to them. what one police officer said is the worst seen he's ever seen in his entire life. my question is your question
9:06 am
about this murder weapon. it raises a lot of questions, that it was one knife. makes you think, was there more than one person or likely one knife, they say. it's not confirmed yet. if it was one person, they had to be skilled at using a weapon. one of the fathers said my daughter was fighting back. if there's one weapon, one person, this narrows down that this had to be somebody that used the weapon. >> that's a great point. one person taking down four people? one was a boyfriend. it wasn't just girls. there was a guy there, too. i would have a hard time believing only one person was involved. that's my hunch. >> and i have to say, there's so many potential factors that can lead to a circumstance where people are compromised in some way. so as we sit and say, okay, four people on one, that seems clear. but there's many things that could compromise an individual.
9:07 am
one of the more horrifying attack stories i heard is a couple where the husband, they were being attacked. the husband was a firefighter and acrossfit instructor. he needed help from the wife. there's certain injuries that you sustained or you have one hand, the circumstances are just absolutely frightening. where you're fighting for your life. what does it say to you that the fbi has now deployed this elite unit, we're pooling resources, it expands the resources on the part of the state of idaho in to the federal connection, which means not only networking and connections but the caliber, the resources that idaho has, tapped in to the utmost elite and enumerable. >> it shows that they're concerned about an ongoing threat. at first the police said this had been targeted. they didn't think there was a threat to the community. now they're saying it's not true. the fbi can help with that across state lines action we
9:08 am
know where this university is located. this week has been so awful. college kids have a hard time right now. we've seen this tragedy at the university of virginia, my alma mater that has been racked by the killing of there three football players. college kids have a lot to cope with right now. this was a party school. a good school. but one where people went to have fun. to have it happen to these young people and especially if there's a wider threat at large, that is so scary for these kids that are still dealing with so much in their lives beyond this. they shouldn't have to deal -- at 20, they shouldn't have to wonder if there's a threat in their community. >> our hearts go out to that community. dr. siegel, i want your input on this specifically. the forensic pathologist commented and we'll get your thoughts on the other side. >> the other two roommates were there at the time of the attack? >> all the information that we have from our investigation is
9:09 am
that yes, they were. >> okay. they were unhurt? >> that is correct. blood is slippery. sometimes the perpetrator is cut by the slippage of the knife. some of the blood at the scene can belong to the perpetrator and dna will be able to evaluate that. >> so doctor, the relevant part is the second half. the blood could mix and we could i.d. the person through the blood. what should we look to learning from the crime scene? >> number 1, no better forensic pathologist than dr. michael bowden. blood is slippery. we may see some dna evidence of
9:10 am
one perpetrator or two. to julie's point, two is likely. someone had to hold them people down. dr. bowden said we could tell the time of death and if there was over a certain period of time. what i've written a lot about, the fight or flight response. you're there. this is happening to you. you freeze. that doesn't help the victims unfortunately. there's the escape mechanism. we wonder why they didn't try to run away or maybe one did and one was struggling. we'll tell a lot about the weapon, the time of death. they may be able to identify the perpetrator as a result. the witnesses are key. the other thing dr. bowden said, the police don't always reveal what they know. you know this. so they may know more than they're saying. i agree with the point that they should lock this place down. i've been there. this is god's country. you live near there. this is a beautiful place. a shock to have it interrupted like this. it needs to be closed down for now. >> absolutely. great conversation.

>> house republicans are gearing up and ready to hit the ground running and subpoena hunter biden when they take control of the house in january. they vowed yesterday to dig deep into the biden family business dealings and the white house is denouncing the claim in a statement that reads in part, congressional republicans top priority is to go after president biden with politically motivated attacks chocked full
9:16 am
of conspiracy theories. president biden is not going to let these political attacks distract him from focusing on americans' priorities. we hope congressional republicans will join us in tackling them instead of wasting time and resources on political revenge. incoming house oversight committee chairman james comer is not buying that. >> there's no plan to subpoena joe biden. there are plans to subpoena hunter biden. >> what does that timeline look like? >> you know, if i were hunter biden, pam, i would want to come before my committee and prove my innocence. i said some things today that should be concerning to hunter biden. >> why then would you not subpoena joe biden if -- >> it's complicated to subpoena a president of the united states. >> it has been done -- >> it has been done and the democrats sent out subpoenas like junk mail. that's why it's hard to get people to come in. >> emily, addressing the white house statement, james comer and
9:17 am
jim have said that they want this to be focused on the policy nexus too, how this ties in to policy decisions. i do want to play a sound bite from james comer here. it's about china and liquefied natural gas and how there could be a policy link between the business dealings. >> at a time when americans are suffering from high energy prices because of this administration's terrible energy policy, we find evidence that hunter biden and joe biden were involved in a scheme to try to get china to buy liquefied natural gas and from a whistle-blower to try to get their foot in the door with china starting to purchase an interest in natural gas drillers. people are in outrage over china buying farmland in the dakotas. what about china starting to buy in to our american energy industry at a time when we have
9:18 am
an energy crisis because of the bad policies of the biden administration? >> so anyone that says there's no evidence of this or that, we haven't heard from the 14 whistle-blowers, one of which he just mentioned. >> this is in every american's best interest to learn more about this, to get answers to this. and if you would supplant any name except hunter biden or i should say except for the last name of biden, i argue the entire democrat party would be massively invested and interested in learning more. it's a shame to me that the mainstream media, the apologist media has covered up for the interests, the curiosity and the potential for this conflict of interest as we're hearing these pieces of evidence that are far more than conjecture. they're real. that lends credence to the argument that our president, our white house and likely this administration and with it our security has been compromised. we know that the president just this week said he's pledged to work with republicans on issues of interest to the american people that they care about. this is one of them. secretary pompeo said this week
9:19 am
that china is in the gates. we know this. in fact, the democrats have said this at large. members of the house of congress have been actually compromised in that way. so i hope moving forward that the coverage of this is not about a hysterical gop and that these headlines do not twist the concept of this investigation to make it all about hunter biden's addictions and the issues he's facing. it's far bigger than him. it's up to the gop and to the democrat party to support them in pursuing these investigations as fully as possible. >> marie, i know democrats are saying this is about hunter biden. it's going after the president's son. i've heard the argues. there's so much more than just hunter biden. there's the southern border, afghanistan, the letter that came out from the doj, the fbi and the false letter from 50 officials calling hunter russian
9:20 am
disinformation. there's something there in important for democrats to look into as well. >> here's what is interesting. republicans took control of the house by a slim majority. in their first press conference, they didn't talk about inflation, they didn't come out with a plan nor the southern border. they didn't talk about how they're doing to fight crime. they talked about hunter biden. they tried to explain why it was bigger when you're explaining you're losing in politics, all that complication and they had their charts. they've said they're focused on investigations. the voters want them to be focused on -- you said you were going to fix inflation and the southern border. where are those plans? quite frankly, hunter biden clearly has made some mistakes in his life. there's no evidence that president joe biden has been engaged in any wrongdoing. if republicans want to say to the american people for the two years we're interested mostly in investigating the administration and not in actually governing, as a democrat, i will run against that every day and twice on sundays. >> the ball has moved from this

's spoken to him. he does have plans to engage on policy. to borrow a line from the democrats, we can walk and chew gum too. >> and all this issues are on the table. democrats should want to know about it, too. the second thing that has been bothering me a long time is the issue of ukraine. because we're rooting for ukraine so much, are we therefore going to forget the fact that then vice president biden withheld or said he was withholding $1 billion unless a

federal prosecutor in ukraine was tanked. now they have come out and said, that had nothing to do with hunter biden. here's the thing, kayleigh. there's so many corrupt prosecutors in ukraine and for sure hunter biden was doing business in ukraine. what was the vice president doing involved in that? >> yeah, it's a great question. i want to get this in from cnn. this is just a snapshot in to what the biden administration is doing. i'm sure they focused on hunter biden, too. interesting. it says more than four months ago before voters and republicans controlled the house, top white house hand department of homeland security officials huddled in the roosevelt room to prepare for this very scenario. sitting around the large table -- the interesting part -- white house lawyers probed senior dhs officials about their preparation for the wide ranging republican oversight that they had begun to anticipate. plans to impeach mayorkas, et cetera. so they called dhs officials in and i've read this in a few places. they're a little worried about the southern border investigation. they're preparing for it four

months in advance. >> that sound bite that we ran at the beginning, james comer, he discussed the fact that they're not subpoenaing the president of the united states. what i want to understand why wasn't he subpoenaed during the election. yes, it's hard to subpoena a sitting president. but we knew and the republicans knew and had evidence of the president's involvement in his sons dealings with russian and china when he ran for president. why didn't we subpoena him then? that's what i don't understand. there's plenty of evidence that shows not only was hunter biden's laptop and all of that sort of brushed under the rug, tucked in the same corner as hillary clinton's e-mails. but i just think at this point it's a little too little too late. i guarantee you we don't get answers during this administration. it was blocked. it was hidden. it was dusted under the rug. >> that's what democrats did. >> do i have time to make a quick point in response to your comments, marie?

it's a laughable notion to argue that the republicans have not been absolutely articulate and firm and surgical frankly with exactly how they would combat inflation, the rise in crime, securing the southern border. >> they gave you one press conference -- >> there's more. >> restoring title 42 and a whole host of other things. the reason they held the press conference is because the mainstream media has never given them a part to discuss it. when you mentioned explaining, nobody has given them the moment to hear why it's so important to the american people, which includes security from china. those are the things -- >> well-side. press conference one of many. i went down the list with steve scalise. are you investigating the border? yep. education? yes. a lot more press conferences to come. americans still struggling and the federal reserves advice,
