but that could be the break that detectives are looking for in another black guy for cbs after dismissing the hunter biden laptop as disinformation and unable to be verified, the network once called tiffany now having an epiphany, comes two years too late, and the cost of thanksgiving dinner can take a big bite out of americans wallets this year as the threat of major rail strike could drive prices even higher. but we begin with breaking news of the murder of those four university of idaho students, matt finn live. >> it's me more than a week now since those four university of idaho students were all murdered and their shared home and police have not named suspects and a killer or killers are believed to be on the loose. looking for more help from the public of releasing anyone in an expanded area near the scene to search any cameras that might

have video evidence. moscow police are doing what they call rumor control saying that none of the victims were gagged or bound and to the report of a nearby dog that was skinned is not related to the case. the moscow police chief said there was no sign of sexual assault and that the surviving roommates phone was used to call 911 around noon on sunday but would not say if the roommates made the call, several people have been inside the house before cops arrived and thought that their friends were just passed out. police do not believe that the two surviving roommates were involved. and rolling out a man seen in surveillance video with two of the victims just hours before their deaths and another person who drove them home early last sunday, the parents of kaylee talk to fox news this weekend. >> my daughter was aware of her surroundings. she would turn her camera on and film when somebody was following her out of a mall parking lot or a grocery store, she was very

aware that she was a pretty girl and that it could attract some problems. >> she was a three-time dean's list member, her grades were amazing and she competed with everyone, she loved competing and was a highly driven person who had many goals in life. >> and moscow police are scheduled to give us another update tomorrow. >> that could be vital, stand by if you would, let's get more on the investigation and bring in former fbi special agent, great to have you on here. keep going back to the roommates who survived and were not harmed, what do you believe in your years of training, why were they not harmed? >> there are number of different theories out there, trace, one of them is that the killer may have attacked to the person that was the target essentially, so if they went to room to room to room looking for the person that was ultimately their target.

>> trace: it is interesting, because now we are talking about the evidence of a knife, a rambo knife, very much military, why do you think they believe this was a rambo style knife and if it was, can they tell from the cuts if this person was right-handed or left-handed? >> they should be able to tell if they are right-handed or left-handed and by the blood pattern on the ceiling once they do the blood spatter analysis, they should be able to tell an approximate height also. but with a k bar knife, one of the things that i think may have happens is that when they were fighting, you know, when at least two of the people supposedly had defensive wounds, he could've dropped to the knife, and when you drop a blooding knife, what does it do? it leaves a transfer platter and on the ground that might be enough to identify them. >> trace: i want to play the sound bite, from one of the girls, the victim's father talking about the scene, watch. >> they are telling us that there is so much evidence that

it is going to take a lot of time to process it all. this was not like a pinpoint crime, this person was sloppy, he did whatever -- i want to say he, you can't say that, that's just me. but he made a mess and there is a mess there. >> trace: and matt finn, going back to you when you look at the scene and you have been covering it for a while now, you look at the scene and it is hard to figure out how they are going to try to piece this back together with what they have. >> when you hear that a crime scene is messy, you think blood everywhere, dna everywhere, does that make it easier for them to gather the evidence on the suspects or killers? >> no, it doesn't. actually if it was just one murder with a number of people in the house, with the friends that were walking through the house before 911 was called, it would be extremely difficult. when you compound that by four victims, it is just an of evidence paired when you look at the back yard you look at how it is grazed and it goes up and

there's a bunch of leaves, their positions out there where someone could potentially if they were stalking one of the girls, they could sit out there and wait out there and lie in wait so to speak, so there are so many different areas for them to hone in on, but all that blood and all of that blood spatter and the sequence -- >> trace: what if all of this is a young person in his dna or their dna is not in the system, does that make all of that evidence useless? >> no, no, there is a brand-new thing that you recall from golden state killer called forensic genealogy where they can upload it into jed match and ancestry and 23andme and look for other family members, go bback to a grandparent or great grandparent and then work at back down. and try to find a name that might marry up with one of the guys stocking them online or shows up on one of their social media accounts. >> trace: only a minute left, but other friends that came in this house, the 911 call, so more people inside, is that a

his death, and they say calvin blough was driving home from his security job when a car crashed while trying to pass him got out of his vehicle and was shot and killed, this all happening before the d.c. council overhaul to the criminal code for the first time in 100 years. ironically in an effort to modernize the code, he was among those who testified before the council. now hours after his death, the city council of washington, d.c., voted to overhaul the criminal code in the district that has one of the highest crime rates as we have been saying in the country. the overhaul man dictates -- mandates sentences have meaning a lot less jail time except for a first-degree murder and eliminates penalties for public,, something d.c.'s progressive mayor muriel bauer has expressed reservations over, but even if she vetoes the bill, it appears the council has the votes to override her.

and in three presidents that did not last very long, henry harrison, zack taylor, and james barfield combined to less time than it took cbs to acknowledge hunter laptop. >> and the headline cbs confirms hunter biden laptop israel, 369 days speaking of time after the post broke the story saying "most news outlets ignored the contents until recently, cbs report follows belated verification of the laptop emerged by "the washington post" in "the new york times." what is the motive? that is the whole thing, i want to know what is the motive? how does it benefit by coming out now? is there more coming out and they are trying to get ahead of this, what do you think? >> it is certainly possible, trace, i think that they definitely want to get ahead of this and are on the other side of the midterm elections, but i think it is more about wanting to get ahead of the house oversight committee and whatever congressman and his team want to look at, you know, as you mention, yes, within your coast

it was 250 days after "the new york times" and 236 days after "the washington post" at cbs joined to the case, but they did not cover it tonight, so it was a one-off story. not covered on abc or nbc, so i think we will go back to not hearing about it for a while. >> trace: that's my last question if you are covering this in earnest, you are legitimate about this, why not dig deeper into the president's potential involvement in the laptop? why not focus more the report on the president and some of the indications that tony bob lipsky gave and all of the various facts that weave into that? >> first of all i will just say tony bob wilensky came up today on cbs as the first time in network news that tony bob a lim ski's name has been mentioned which is just absolutely astonishing in it self. the question for cbs is you want to go deeper about the contents of the laptop and talk about specific emails, and follow up on the reporting of the daily

around in the high prices you are seeing at the grocery store, well, the president says that they are also starting to come down. taken to twitter with the white house chief of staff wrong claim is claiming that those record high gas prices, well, as you can see, the white house as americans will feel less pain at the pump as they hit the road for turkey day. one in ten pumps below $2.89 a gallon. despite all the positive economic news from 1600 pennsylvania avenue, the cost of feed, ten people this thanksgiving is up a whopping 20%. since just last year. as a result, "the wall street journal" reports many americans will be scaling back their holiday spending this year, that is not a good sign for the economy. plus what a difference two months can make, two months in an election for that matter, you may recall back in september mr. biden's celebrated the deal to avert a rail strike, well, tonight we could be just two short weeks out from a massive

reaction, when you spend two years under nancy pelosi, chuck schumer, and joe biden injecting into cash, liquidity and when you incentivize people to stay home rather than work and produce goods and then when you have a fed that effectively buries its head and says that the early inflation period was transitory and will go away coming to end up with the mess that we currently have. and it's important to remember when we see inflation indices, they are actually year-over-year, so when you do that for two or three years like we are going on, 8.5% compounds over three years and looks like 30%. and most of the things we consume as americans are higher. >> trace: you go back and you talk about putin, blaming turkey prices on putin. i want to move on coming to our military expert and these questions go hand-in-hand, if china does go after taiwan and take it by force, america doesn't respond and the question would be how well do we respond? you talk to general jack keane and he says that we have a war game again and again and

things don't turn out well. >> it's not necessarily a good ending and depends on the leadership as you are writing this level unfortunately we are at relatively all-time low readiness levels in terms of what our war fighters are capable of doing, retention and recruiting is the lowest it has been since the mid-'70s. >> trace: what do you attribute that to? >> it's not just low pay, most patriots will serve if you pay them 21,000 a year, which is significantly lower than what they deserve come it's not the operational tempo alone, they will go on deployment for five times, still want to serve their country, but when you have leadership that turns the back on the troops and you see a debacle out of afghanistan such as we saw last year we have invertebrates in the chairman of the joint chief of staff and joint secretary depends in commander in chief, and uninspiring to join the military when you overlay things like the mandatory vaccines and the pay being increased by only 4% when we are at an eight and a half inflationary period, people don't want to join the military

and those that joined get out earlier than they planned. >> trace: the army down 20% recruiting goals coming you're saying it's on the money, not after the money but after the pride and they don't feel it. >> that's right, they need all of it and deserve more pay as well, i've been pushing to have the military base pay for and listed especially the junior enlisted, they make literally 21,000 a year, people don't realize that and that equates to $12 a lower if you normalize it in and out that employees make $20 an hour with things in perspective, i been pushing to get it lower than minimum wage for junior enlisted up to 32,000 and a couple of other things we can do to enhance quality of life, but if the leadership is not there making the correct decisions and investing in the troops and the readiness levels, it is a very dire picture in terms of recruitment. >> trace: which is the last question, maybe it's all the money, but how do you solve the pride, somebody looking out? >> we need the politicians to behave like they care about the

it was while he was at walter reed that wounded warrior project walked into my room. they thanked dan for his service and then they assured him that i was not alone and i look back at that and i think, no one could have asked for a better advocate because not everybody got to do what we did. for example, go to a private hospital that was number two in the nation for traumatic brain injury, to transition home and be able to wait for a new home. when you have time to reflect, you realize all along the journey, all along the journey, they were there. episodes 1 and 2 minorities some 420 million views it's supposed to go seven seasons, medico eight? popularity you are like i don't know, maybe there's an eighth or ninth, you talk about other shows, and you are like we are going nine or ten, is that -- >> flashbacks if we have to, once jesus hits the ascension, his not so much on the ground anymore. maybe we can cut back to earlier stuff, i would not mind eight seasons, but it's all up to her masterful creator. >> trace: is it something that as you are doing, you can feel like this is going to be good. >> oh, my goodness coming out. all of us on the cast have dozens of stories. i've had people come up to me that were on the verge of suicide and like they had it all planned out and a note written and their friend got them over to just kind of get their mind off of their troubles they watch the first episode of season 1 and by the end they are

weeping and all of a sudden they have this newfound faith, or sense that god has a purpose for their lives, that their lives mean something, and then a year later we are talking about it, and that person who is going to kill themselves a year before is now helping other people who are in a state of depression. >> trace: you know i asked, the story coming out is very compelling, but i want to put this gallup poll up, because if you go back to 1999, membership in houses of worship, you see 70%, 2018 and dropped to 50 and 2020, the last numbers we had that were available, 37%. it just keeps doing this and yet, your production is kind of doing the opposite. it just is defying the odds a little bit. >> i think that people are looking for a reason to have encouragement and hope and joy again, and especially in media, you know, there is such a looming darkness and so many areas of the media that i think we provide light to so many

usb 17 onset, that's cool. >> trace: kevin corke to you, look at "yellowstone" and i think it's jr meets tony soprano meets cartwright, and it has struck a nerve in this country. >> it really has, can i just say that for those of us who grew up as the latchkey kid if you pardon me for saying, i literally grew up on westerns. something reassuring about a calmer time in our country with all of the nuance and the complexity as of today's, i agree that in a time of turbulence we are looking for more simple stability, and i think there is some of that they are although the story lines can be really quite interesting. >> trace: interesting and also violent, jonathan, not one of those shows that may be just all the family gets together and watches, because there are times where there is a lot of violence and some other stuff you might not want the younger children watching. >> that's right, for us i can speak for our show, maybe it's limited as to what's with that kind of content you wind up

seeing, there are some things where it is roman soldiers get rough with some of the first century judeans, but we don't downplay the fact that our story takes place in the midst of roman occupation, so there is a little bit of trouble that happens. it >> trace: their own violence come up in montana, matt finn it's one of those things where i talk to people and i'm like did you watch "yellowstone" it has not happened and have not had that kind of thing for a long time, you back in the day would say, have you watched "dallas" on friday night? >> i am a fan and i watch the newest episodes of the latest season and i agree with everything said. also i think that it is the sweeping panoramic beautiful views of montana now that escapism is there as well, so used to seeing so many shows around inner-city and crime, and i think it is an escape to sit on your couch and see these beautiful shots. >> trace: ten seconds, can you wrap us up? >> i agree with all of that, amen to everything!
