1:04 am
so that suggests to me this may have been random or targeted opportunity, if you will, some of the hardest crimes to solve. you know, every killer at the scene take something with them. that is where forensics comes in. if you are relying on forensics exclusively, that means you have no leads. i'm not saying this is a professional killer here. i am saying this could have potentially been a random stalker who saw the opportunity or saw them and a bar just like ted bundy did in 1978, followed someone home and took the opportunity when the lights went out to go inside. these are tough ones to solve. >> carley: according to moscow police, chris, it was not until noon the next day when someone called 911 about unconscious individual. that is the language the police are using. they are not saying someone called the police about a bloody

murder scene, does that strike you as odd? >> i am going to say it is a little odd, but in a case like this where a killer comes in and through the sliding glass door, no break-in, again making comparisons to ted bundy, he goes inside and wakes and kills people in their sleep basically. there may have been one or two who woke up and briefly wanted to defend themselves but can quickly subdue a sleeping victim. i take their place at their word that these other two have been watched out as potential suspects. i think it is potential in a house like that which has three levels and i believe the first level really is a basement and particularly the others in the basement with the door closed could easily not hear what happened. >> todd: why don't they expand the scene, chris? >> yeah, again, they have no leads or no good leads at this
1:06 am
point. they should expand the scene. the killer apparently was not seen going in or outside were hanging around. that would lead you to believe they had cover trees, adjacent parking lot. it seems to me it should have been logical from the start to expand that crime scene that far out, may be tire tracks, some tracks left behind or any kind of just pinning down the route that the killer may have taken in a car or on foot and tried to retrieve video from that side of the house. >> carley: do you think the investigators, chris, have the dna that may have been under the victim's fingernail they did fight back? or any dna from the victims themselves? how far could that take you if the person who committed the crime doesn't have a criminal record before this?
1:07 am
>> yeah, there is possibility of dna. when you are sleeping and someone comes in and basically kills you in your sleep, i think the opportunity to defend his very brief. i am not opportunistic. i like to think the dna is under fingernails. but if there was, the value there is to be able to link it to a suspect at a later time if they are not in the codes database. those that don't know the code's database is the dna database the fbi maintains that have individuals that are from individuals who have been arrested in the past. you can make comparisons like fingerprints with dna, computerized to do that almost instantly if you have a dna sample from a crime scene. >> todd: there is another college town, washington state university 10 minutes from the university of idaho. chris, if you would have came to washington state, would you keep
